On the 14th of October, Qualcomm sent out a press release which reveals that its new solution combines 5G and Wi-Fi 6 to provide Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) home gateways.<img loading="lazy" class="size-large wp-image-282907 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-1024x576.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55-746x420.jpg 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-X55.jpg 1500w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>In simpler words, routers co-developed with Qualcomm will accept a 5G SIM card they will be capable of supporting high-speed data transfer which is observed with 5G compatible smartphones. As of now, more than 30 OEMs have partnered with Qualcomm to develop 5G compatible FWA home gateways, some of which include Nokia, LG, Samsung Electronics, ZTE and Netgear.</p>
<p>Regardless of the maker, all routers co-developed with Qualcomm will incorporate the Snapdragon X55 5G modem and RF system (radio frequency) developed by the American company. Since the previously mentioned OEMs have a global reach, it would be fair to assume that Snapdragon X55-powered 5G FWAs will be commercially available by next year in the U.S., Asia and Europe.<img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-280716 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="704" height="529" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1.jpg 704w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1-696x523.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/China-Telecom-5G-plans-1-559x420.jpg 559w" sizes="(max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px" /></p>

<p>Not only are these products suitable for urban areas but their implementation makes perfect sense in rural or remote areas where ISPs have still not set up wired broadband infrastructure due to harsh terrain or a limited number of potential customers. Therefore, the reach of high-speed internet can be done rapidly and economically with this technology.</p>
<p>Besides, these FWA home gateways could allow telecommunication companies to unify their broadband infrastructure. Lastly, this solution will compete DSL, passive optical networking (PON) providers, and cable broadband (DOCSIS).</p>
<p>What are your thoughts on the possibilities of this technology and its impact on the adoption of 5G? Let us know in the comments below.</p>
