Anker launches a series of charging accessories aimed at banking the Charger fiasco of Apple iPhones. The Accessories carry the Doraemon theme which is a. And the list includes three charging bricks, two USB cables, and a Wireless Charging Adapter. All the accessories will go for a pre-sale on Wednesday(November 4).

Anker updated the sale details, and features of the accessories on its Official Weibo(via GSMArena). Anker already has all of the accessories in the Standard version. This is more of a Doraemon paint job over them. All of the chargers have Anker’s IQ(PowerIQ) labeled on them. This means they support Apple devices, USB-C Power Delivery, and Quick Charge. So you can use it to charge other devices as well.

Anyway, the normal-sized charger has speeds up to 65W. Anker says you can use the 5A charging USB-C cable to completely charge a Macbook Pro in 2 hours.  A slightly bigger(Super Charger) one has two ports- 1xUSB-C, and 1xUSB-A. Anker says you can charge an iPhone and a Laptop/any others simultaneously.

Besides, the smallest of the lot is the Anker 20W Charger. Anker says the charger is up to 3x faster. And can charge iPhone 12 and 12 Pro to 50% in about 30-minutes. Additionally, there are two cables- 1xUSB-C to Lightning, and 1xUSB-C to USB-C. These cables have been tested 12,000 to check bending and breaking. They also come with a cute Doraemon tag that acts as a cable organizer.

Further, Anker has also launched a Wireless Adapter. It supports Apple’s MagSafe coil charging for iPhone 12 series up to 15W and Qi-Charging Standard for older iPhones like iPhone 12, AirPods Pro. Anker says it is made of an Al-Alloy and it can take the device to a 50% in one-hour charge. All the accessories will be up for pre-orders starting November 4 at 0:00 on Tmall, JD.com, and Anker store.

It is not unusual to see a power bank that has support for fast charging. There are a bunch of them in the market that support Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology or the manufacturer’s proprietary fast charging technology. What is unusual is a power bank that has support for 7 different charging protocols, and that is exactly what ORICO’s latest power bank has.

The ORICO power bank has two-way fast charging support and comes in two variants – one has a capacity of 10000mAh and the other has a 20,000mAh capacity. Both contain lithium-polymer batteries.

The unique feature of the ORICO power bank is its support for 7 different charging protocols. Apart from the popular ones such as Qualcomm’s Quick Charge (2.0 and 3.0) and MediaTek’s Pump Express+ (1.1 and 2.0), it also supports Huawei’s FCP fast charging technology, Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charge (AFC), Apple’s 2.4A/12W fast charge, BC1.2, and a smart identification fast charge technology.

The ORICO power bank isn’t done showing off. It has four ports in total – two full sized output ports, a micro USB input port and a USB-C port that charges both ways.

The micro USB and USB-C input ports support 5V/3A, 9V/2A, and 12V/1.5A. One of the full-sized ports supports 5V/2.4A while the other is a fast charge port that supports 5V/3A, 9V/2A, and 12V/1.5A. The USB-C port supports 5V/3A output.

One additional cool feature about the power bank is that the LED lights can indicate if it is fast charging or not. An orange LED means it’s in fast charge mode while a white LED means it is in normal charging mode. ORICO says the power bank comes with a kevlar-wrapped USB cable that can bear weights of up to 60kg without sustaining any damage.

The power bank is currently being crowdfunded on Jingdong for ¥89 (~$13). It is unknown if this is the price for the 10,000mAh model or the 20,000mAh model.

There are lots of fast charging technologies in the market right now. Some of the popular ones are Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, OPPO’s VOOC Charge, OnePlus’s Dash Charge, and Motorola’s TurboPower. There is also USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) which is used by the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, and MacBooks.

Google wants the charging standard to be unified and is telling Android smartphone manufacturers to ditch Quick Charge (or any other form) and switch to USB-PD instead. To ensure that, Google added a new clause to the Android Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) that OEM’s must follow. The clause in the Android 7.0 CDD has been extracted below:

Type-C devices are STRONGLY RECOMMENDED to not support proprietary charging methods that modify Vbus voltage beyond default levels, or alter sink/source roles as such may result in interoperability issues with the chargers or devices that support the standard USB Power Delivery methods. While this is called out as “STRONGLY RECOMMENDED”, in future Android versions we might REQUIRE all type-C devices to support full interoperability with standard type-C chargers.

It is still strongly recommended for now and not yet a must. But it appears some manufacturers have started adopting the standard. The Xiaomi Mi 6 which supports Quick Charge 3.0 has been found to also support USB-PD.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 was charged with the Mi Notebook Air’s 65W charger and charging speeds were measured with two charge detectors.One gave a reading of 9.05V/1.76A which is approximately 16W and the other gave a reading of 9.36V/1.68A which also translates to 16W. So if you own a USB Type-C charger with USB-PD, you can use that to charge your Mi 6 as well.

But what Qualcomm did reveal is that the new chipset will be manufactured by Samsung on a 10nm FinFET process. Yes, finally, we are entering the stage where we meet 10nm chipset, which means SD835 will be much more efficient than existing processors in the market.

How much improvement you ask?

Qualcomm reveals that the Snapdragon 835 will deliver up to 27 percent higher performance at the same time using 40 percent less power than the Snapdragon 821 chip based on the 14nm process.

Another highlight of the new chip is the support for Quick Charge 4.0. The new fast charging tech will ensure that your phone will be charged quicker and more efficiently. The company reveals that a five-minute charge using Quick Charge 4.0 will be enough to provide up to 5 hours of battery life. Similarly, the tech can charge the phone’s battery up to 50 percent in just 5 minutes, which is amazing.

As compared to the previous generation QC 3.0, the Quick Charge 4.0 will be 20 percent faster and 30 percent more efficient. The tech also takes care of thermal management, thanks to its third generation INOV (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) wherein both the voltage and current will be monitored during the charging process to ensure that the temperature remains below a standard level and prevent overcharging. Further, the new charging standard will also be compliant with USB Power Delivery standard and USB Type-C specification.

LG has not had a successful year so far as the LG G5 wasn’t well received even though it was the first device to be released this year with ”replaceable” hardware. The Korean tech giant has however announced the release of the V20 which is the successor to last year’s dual-screen and tri-camera V10.

A recent leak has released details of the LG V20 which will launch in September. LG is reportedly sticking to the capable Snapdragon 820 SoC which is a surprise as some other flagships that will be released later this year and will compete with the V20 will feature the slightly more powerful SD 821.

The phone will also feature a 5.5” FHD  in-cell screen which is thinner but smaller and lower than the V10 which has a 5.7” 2K screen. It will sport 3/4GB of RAM, with 32GB and 64GB ROM variants, Adreno 530 GPU, and an SD card slot that can take as much as a 256GB card.

The cameras have been bumped up to 20MP  on the rear from last year’s 16MP and 8MP for selfies compared to last year’s 5MP setup. The company has not revealed if the front facing camera will be a dual setup like it’s predecessor.

The LG V20 will come with USB Type-C and a 4000mAh battery. There should also be Quick Charge 3.0 giving that the V10 has QC 2.0.

Most flagships today come with fast charging. Meizu will soon be unveiling its Pro 6 flagship smartphone on April 13 and the company confirmed today that the phone will come with fast charging technology. However, there’s more, the company hints that this tech makes sure that the phone’s battery is not damaged during the process. The teaser says, “They (companies) tell you the fastest charging times, why do they not mention the life of the battery?”.

Meizu Pro 6 could be using its own fast charging technology dubbed as mCharge (this could be mCharge 2.0) which ensures that the battery inside the phone is not damaged. Or it could use Mediatek’s PE (Pump Express) fast charging and utilize some kind of battery protection technology. Whatever the case maybe, this teaser confirms that the phone will have some kind of tech to ensure the protection of the battery.

There are a lot of fast charging technologies currently available in the market, like Qualcomm’s Quick Charge, Mediatek’s Pump Express and even OPPO’s Super VOOC fast charge. The first two charging technologies use high voltage to speed up the charging process. High voltage often leads to heat generation, which is not good news for your battery life. On the other hand, OPPO’s VOOC fast charging uses a low-voltage 5V charger to ensure that the heat is kept to a minimum and the life of the battery is not adversely affected. Well, Meizu’s new Pro 6 could come with a similar charging tech as OPPO, using low voltage.

In a year alone, Huawei has released a number of new devices such as the Huawei P8, Honor 7, Honor 7i, Mate S etc. There are also a few handsets which are coming soon such as the Huawei Mate 8. This really proves that the company is focused on its smartphone division. Now, this Chinese giant has just unveiled a new charging technology which is better than most other quick charge tech that we have seen till now.

Although the company is yet to officially name it something specific, Huawei’s Quick Charge tech can charge your large battery within a matter of minutes. And this is not just a claim, as the company released a video a couple of days back to prove it.

In the video, which you can see above, Huawei has taken a 3000mAh battery and placed it inside its prototype Quick Charge enabled device. You can see that within a matter of minutes, here its just 5 minutes, the battery charged from 0% to 48%. So, you get half a day’s worth of usage within the time you made a coffee for yourself. That’s really impressive and much faster than existing quick charging technologies.

But before you get too excited, we will have to remind you that this is just a prototype Quick Charge technology. It will take some years to make the tech viable for your everyday smartphones. But once it hits the market, you no longer have to worry about your phone’s battery as a simple 5 minutes of charging can get you running for hours.

The Quick Charge 3.0 is an improved version of its predecessor Quick Charge 2.0. Qualcomm claims that this new charging technology has an 80% faster charging speed than a normal charging apparatus delivered with a mobile device. Associated with the charging speed is an embedded algorithmic technology called Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage or INOV for devices to determine their own voltage demand. The Quick charge 3.0 also features a finer charging voltage selection in 200mV resolution ranging between 3.6 to 20 volts with a USB Type-C connection. Quick Charge 3.0 can charge a device from 0% to 80% in just 35 minutes!

The San Diego-based chip maker Qualcomm is promising to launch the Quick Charge 3.0 with one of their newest Snapdragon processors. Soon the long periods of time required for device charging will be history as users get used to this charging technology, meaning more time for interacting with your device while it is free from cords and plugs.

Guess what, Snapdragon 820, 620, 618, 617, and 430 support Quick Charge 3.0. This means many of the smartphones that we see next year would feature this fast charging tech.
