Realme will launch the Realme 16 5G on April 2, 2026, expanding its 16 Series lineup. The phone focuses on photography and content creation, with a mix of camera hardware and AI features.

The device uses 50MP Sony sensors for both the rear and front cameras. This setup is aimed at keeping image quality consistent on both sides. It also includes a rear selfie mirror, which helps users frame shots while using the main camera instead of the front lens. A ring flash is built into the back to provide more even lighting in low-light conditions.

On the software side, realme is adding several camera tools. LumaColor imaging works to keep colors balanced and skin tones natural across different lighting conditions. The “Say Hi” gesture feature lets users start a countdown shutter by making a hand gesture. Vibe Master Mode offers three preset styles called Lively, Festival, and Ceremony for quick edits. AI Edit Genie allows users to change elements like hairstyles, clothing, and backgrounds through simple commands. AI Instant Clip can turn photos and videos from the gallery into ready-to-share clips.

The phone also focuses on battery and design. It packs a 7000mAh battery but keeps a slim profile at 8.1mm thickness and 183g weight. realme says this is possible due to its “AirCraft Structure,” which uses a high-density internal layout and reduces unused space. High energy-density graphite cells are used to fit the large battery inside a thin body, while improved internal stacking adds strength.

Realme is getting ready to launch the Realme 16 5G in India. The device has now appeared on the BIS certification database, confirming that an India launch is coming soon. The phone was recently launched in Vietnam, and the Indian version is expected to carry the same hardware.

The BIS listing (spotted by TheTechOutlook) shows the model number RMX5171 with the brand name Realme. The certification was granted on January 14, 2026. While the product name is not mentioned on the BIS website, this model number has already been linked to the Realme 16 5G. Tipster Abhishek Yadav earlier revealed the memory and color options for the Indian variant and confirmed RMX5171 as the model number. The same model number also appears on the Google Play Console supported devices list under the Realme 16 5G name, which confirms its identity.

Based on earlier information, the Realme 16 5G will launch in India in two configurations. These include 8GB RAM with 128GB storage and 12GB RAM with 256GB storage. Color options for India are expected to include Air Black and Air White.

Realme launched the Realme 16 5G and Realme 16 Pro 5G in Vietnam on January 29, 2026. The Pro model already sells in India with identical specs, but the standard Realme 16 5G is new to the region. Both phones prioritize design, battery life, and durability.

Realme 16 5G features

The Realme 16 5G has what Realme calls an Air Design body with a flat frame and curved corners. It measures 158.30 × 75.13 × 8.10mm and weighs 183g. The back has an Aurora Wings finish with a blue to purple gradient that changes in different lighting. A horizontal camera bar sits flush with the surface and holds a 50MP Sony IMX852 portrait camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor.

The bar also has a selfie mirror built in, with the LED flash around the outer edge. The front camera is 50MP with an 86-degree field of view. Photo features include LumaColor processing and AI Edit Genie for quick edits in the gallery.

The Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Max 5G chipset with an octa-core CPU and Arm Mali G615 GPU. It comes with 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There’s no microSD slot, but USB OTG works. The battery is the same 7000mAh (6830mAh rated) but charges faster at 80W. Wired reverse charging is included.

Cameras include a 200MP main sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide on the back. The front has a 50MP selfie camera. You can shoot 4K video at 30fps, plus slow motion, HDR, time lapse, and pro modes. The phone also has IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings and 300 percent Ultra Volume audio.

Other features include an in-display fingerprint scanner, face unlock, and all standard sensors. Connectivity covers dual Nano SIM, 5G, Wi Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, and USB Type C with digital and analog audio. The device measures 162.6 × 77.6 × 7.75mm, weighs 192g, and runs realme UI 7.0.

Pricing & availability

In Vietnam, the Realme 16 Pro 5G is priced at VND 14,490,000. It is offered in Purple Orchid and Gray Gravel color options and is available via Giang Duong.

The standard Realme 16 5G is sold in two configurations. The 8GB/256GB variant costs VND 11,490,000, while the 12GB/256GB model is priced at VND 12,490,000. It comes in White Swan and Black Cloud colors and is available through thegioididong.

Realme is currently teasing the launch of the Realme P4 Power in India. After it’s done with this phone, the company is likely to shift its focus to the vanilla Realme 16.

The Realme 16 Pro and Pro Plus made their debut in early January, and now the base model is starting to surface in leaks.

The first images of the Realme 16 have started appearing on X, and the phone looks nothing like its Pro siblings. Realme is instead taking inspiration from Google’s Pixel-style camera visor that stretches across the back panel.

Realme 16 5G surfaces in first images

As you can see below, the phone has a triple-camera setup on the back. What stands out on this island is a glossy surface next to the camera lenses.

Apparently, it’s called a “rear selfie mirror” that lets you use the main rear camera for selfies and group shots by giving you a reflective view of yourself on the back panel.

So no, this isn’t a secondary display like the one on Xiaomi 17 Pro. It’s just a reflective surface. I am not sure how practical it will be, since the mirror area looks fairly small, but it’s still a slightly unconventional take on improving selfie photography.

Hardware details for the Realme 16 remain limited for now. However, tipster Abhishek Yadav has shared information about the phone’s color and storage options.

According to the leak, the Realme 16 will be available in two colors: Air White and Air Black. It will also come in three memory configurations: 8GB of RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a higher-end option with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
