First, talking bout Realme 5 and Realme 5s, the update comes with build number RMX1911EX_11.C.53 and brings optimizations for flight mode (Bluetooth won’t be affected), battery icon while charging, third-party apps power consumption, and shooting quality in night mode.

Further, the update also brings fixes for status bar not displaying WiFi icon, black screen issue when switching to PUBG Mobile from the multitasking view, and greenish photo while using flash.

As we mentioned in the beginning, the above-mentioned changes are also applicable to Realme 5i. However, the update comes with build number RMX2030EX_11.C.53 for this device.

As for Realme 5 Pro, the July security update arrives with build number RMX1971EX_11.C.05. Just like the above-mentioned three devices, the update for this one also brings several optimizations and fixes.

For instance, it optimizes the transparency of swipe back gesture style, flight mode similar to the above models, and screen recording features. It also adds a feature called smooth scrolling and fixes some known issues.

Having said that, the OTA update for all the four handsets is being pushed in batches. Hence, it may take time to reach every unit.

Today, the global variant of the Realme 5i goes on sale via Aliexpress. This particular variant will be shipping out globally to regions such as UAE and Europe for a starting price of $129.99 for its 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant.

Design

If there is an impressive feature on the Honor 9X, it is the design. Thanks to a pop-up front camera, it offers a full borderless experience without the need for a notch, like some of the most amazing flagship smartphones. Further, it has an almost completely clean glass back thanks to a compact camera module and a side-mounted fingerprint reader (China version only). And how not to mention the suggestive X-shaped light effects on the rear cover. It is not one of the most compact phones out there, but it is definitely beautiful.

Display

Honor 9X is superior even when it comes to the display. It has a better looking LTPS panel with a wider size and a Full HD+ resolution. Even the Redmi Note 8 has a nice display and you would not notice big differences between the Honor 9X and Redmi Note 8. Realme 5i is way inferior due to its lower definition: its IPS display has just an HD+ resolution and it is even a very wide display, so you should notice the difference without many difficulties.

Specs & Software

The most powerful hardware department belongs to the Redmi Note 8, at least in its most expensive memory configuration. The handset is fueled by the Snapdragon 665 chipset paired with up to 6 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. Realme 5i has exactly the same chipset, but it offers just 4 GB of RAM and just 64 GB of internal storage in its high-end version. The Kirin 710F chipset found on the Honor 9X is inferior to the Snapdragon 665, but the Honor 9X has a 6/128 GB variant, unlike the Realme 5i. Each device boasts Android 9 Pie out of the box.

Camera

Redmi Note 8 offers the most complete rear camera setup: it consists of a 48 MP quad camera including an ultrawide sensor, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. Right after we got the Honor 9X with a 48 MP triple camera which lacks the dedicated macro camera. With Realme 5i you get a quad camera again, but the main 12 MP sensor is inferior to the ones found on both the Honor 9X and Redmi Note 8, as well as the selfie camera.

Battery

Realme 5i is the king if we talk about battery life. Not only it features a bigger 5000 mAh battery, but it even comes with a more efficient display. Thanks to the HD+ resolution, the energy consumption is inferior to the Redmi Note 8 and Honor 9X, that is why the battery life is even longer than you might expect. Honor 9X and Redmi Note 8 have the same battery capacity, but Redmi Note 8 lasts slightly more in various scenarios.

Price

The price of Honor 9X in India is about $197, Redmi Note 8 costs about €127 and Realme 5i is priced €115. Redmi Note 8 looks like the most complete and well-balanced device with a great hardware department and nice cameras. Honor 9X has a better design, while Realme 5i offers the longest battery life.

However, it wasn’t mentioned by Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth at launch.

Original story continues…

Last week, Realme unveiled the Realme 5i smartphone in Vietnam. Realme India today held an unveil event in the country to announce the same phone for the Indian audience. With a price tag of Rs. 8,999, the handset is priced lower than the Realme 5 that had gone official in the country in August last year. The Realme 5i resembles with the older Realme 5 smartphone. However, the only two major differences between the two devices is that the Realme 5i has a downgraded front and does not feature a diamond-cut patterned rear like the Realme 5.

Realme 5i price in India

The Realme 5i has arrived in India in 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage edition with a pricing of Rs. 8,999 (~$126). Forest Green and Aqua Blue are the two color variants of the smartphone. The first sale of the smartphone will be held on Jan. 15 at 12PM (local time). The smartphone will be exclusively available for purchase through Flipkart and Realme’s India online store.

In comparison, the Realme 5 with base model 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage is selling with the same price of Rs. 8,999 (~$126) in India.

Since then the products under the series have expanded tremendously. The Chinese company has now hinted that over 5.5 million units of the Realme 5 series lineup have been sold globally. This was disclosed by Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth on Twitter.

The Realme 5 series is comprised of the Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro, Realme 5s and most recently, Realme 5i that was launched in Vietnam earlier today. However, the sales figure comes from the trio of Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro and the Realme 5s. All three smartphones clutch a quad-camera setup and a unique crystal-inspired design which may have contributed to the huge patronage. Apart from that, the Realme 5 series comes with affordable prices ranging from Rs 8,999 to Rs 15,999 in India, making them a competitive budget and mid-range smartphones.

As a reminder, the Realme 5 was launched in August 2019. It features a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch that houses a 13MP selfie shooter. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC paired with 3GB and 4GB RAM options and there are 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options. At the rear, the Realme 5 features a quad camera setup with 12MP primary, 8MP ultrawide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensors. It is fuelled by a 5,000mAh battery and runs Android 9.0-based ColorOS.

The first difference is that the Realme 5i does not feature a diamond-cut design like the Realme 5. And the second one is that the Realme 5 has a front-facing camera of 13-megapixel whereas the Realme 5i has a downgraded selfie snapper of 8-megapixel.

The above poster confirms that the smartphone will be made official in Vietnam on Jan. 6.
As evident from the limited information on specifications currently available, the Realme 5i flaunts a 6.52-inch display.
In terms of optics, the primary camera uses a 12-megapixel lens, in association with an 8-megapixel lens, and two 2-megapixel sensors. There is an 8-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies. The device draws power from a massive 5,000 mAh battery and runs on Android 9.0 Pie-based ColorOS 6.0.1. The smartphone gets a dual hybrid SIM slot, where SIM 2 can be replaced with a microSD card for additional storage capacity. The Realme 5i will be available in two color variants, namely green and blue. Pricing is yet to be announced.

Apart from the downgraded front camera and a slightly different rear appeal, the specs and design of the Realme 5i are an exact match with India’s Realme 5 available in India. The Realme 5 features a front camera of 13-megapixel. Realme does not sell the Realme 5 in Vietnam and the other neighboring markets. The Realme’s Vietnamese website only sells the Realme 5s phone that comes with a better primary lens of 48-megapixel in comparison to the Realme 5. It is possible that Realme might be rebranding the Realme 5 as the Realme 5i for the Southeast Asian market including Singapore. The device would be a more affordable version of the Realme 5s and go on sale in select markets.

However, that may not be the only new device we will be getting.

It has been reported that Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has certified two new Realme phones. These two phones are the Realme C3 and Realme 5i.

realme C3 & realme 5i to launch soon, as they get certified in Singapore. pic.twitter.com/wUIBpUKSWB

— Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414) December 21, 2019

The info was shared on Twitter by Sudhanshu Ambhore (@Sudhanshu1414). He included screenshots of the certificates and they reveal the Realme C3 has model number RMX1941 while the Realme 5i has model number RMX2030.

The Realme C3 will be the successor of the Realme C2 that was launched in May of this year. We don’t know what features it will bring but they might be slight changes to what the Realme C2 currently offers.

The Realme 5i, on the other hand, might be a version of the Realme 5 with fewer features since the Realme 5s is a slightly upgraded version of the Realme 5.

Both phones will likely still run ColorOS 6 based on Android Pie out of the box if they will be launching at the beginning of the coming year. However, an update to ColorOS 7 should come later.
