First, talking bout Realme 5 and Realme 5s, the update comes with build number RMX1911EX_11.C.53 and brings optimizations for flight mode (Bluetooth won’t be affected), battery icon while charging, third-party apps power consumption, and shooting quality in night mode.

Further, the update also brings fixes for status bar not displaying WiFi icon, black screen issue when switching to PUBG Mobile from the multitasking view, and greenish photo while using flash.

As we mentioned in the beginning, the above-mentioned changes are also applicable to Realme 5i. However, the update comes with build number RMX2030EX_11.C.53 for this device.

As for Realme 5 Pro, the July security update arrives with build number RMX1971EX_11.C.05. Just like the above-mentioned three devices, the update for this one also brings several optimizations and fixes.

For instance, it optimizes the transparency of swipe back gesture style, flight mode similar to the above models, and screen recording features. It also adds a feature called smooth scrolling and fixes some known issues.

Having said that, the OTA update for all the four handsets is being pushed in batches. Hence, it may take time to reach every unit.

For the unaware, Realme UI is a fork of ColorOS 7 based on Android 10. Since then the products under the series have expanded tremendously. The Chinese company has now hinted that over 5.5 million units of the Realme 5 series lineup have been sold globally. This was disclosed by Realme India’s CEO Madhav Sheth on Twitter.

The Realme 5 series is comprised of the Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro, Realme 5s and most recently, Realme 5i that was launched in Vietnam earlier today. However, the sales figure comes from the trio of Realme 5, Realme 5 Pro and the Realme 5s. All three smartphones clutch a quad-camera setup and a unique crystal-inspired design which may have contributed to the huge patronage. Apart from that, the Realme 5 series comes with affordable prices ranging from Rs 8,999 to Rs 15,999 in India, making them a competitive budget and mid-range smartphones.

As a reminder, the Realme 5 was launched in August 2019. It features a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch that houses a 13MP selfie shooter. It is a very interesting take on Realme’s and Redmi’s affordable devices since it offers amazing specifications at an incredibly affordable price. It comes right after the launch of the Realme 5s in the nation and a lot of people are already considering its specs sheet even better. Another device that is fighting to become the best-seller under €200 in India and all around the world is the Redmi Note 8. Which is currently the device with the highest value for money? This specs comparison will shed some light on such a hard question to answer.

Design

The Redmi Note 8 clearly wins the design competition. First of all, it is the only which sports a glass back making the whole phone more elegant and refined (and protected by Gorilla Glass 5). Further, it is the most compact, the thinnest and the lightest phone of this trio. But despite the superiority of the Redmi Note 8, there is still to award the Vivo U20 which maintains a very thin and light body, even though it is equipped with a much bigger battery and a much wider display. Even the Realme 5s has a unique advantage: unlike its two rivals, it is splash resistant.

Display

Realme 5s loses the display comparison because it is equipped with a panel sporting a lower resolution. It is just HD+ and that is not the best for a wide 6.5-inch display as it does not provide a high definition level. On the other hand, the display is definitely one of the strong points of the Vivo U20, since it has a wide display diagonal (6.53 inches) and a high Full HD+ resolution. It even comes with the Widevine L1 certification which allows streaming content in high definition from the most known platform (such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video).

Specs & Software

While Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5s are fueled by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, Vivo decided to take a step forward by equipping the Vivo U20 with a more powerful Snapdragon 675, so you will most likely get higher speeds thanks to its higher CPU performance. Further, consider that Vivo U20 comes with 6 GB of RAM and a fast UFS 2.1 internal storage making its performance even higher than expected. Unfortunately, it does not have a 128 GB configuration, unlike the Redmi Note 8, but it sports a micro SD slot to expand the native storage. Android 9 Pie is installed out of the box on each phone but customized by different UIs (Funtouch OS, MIUI, and Color OS).

Camera

The cameras are the real weak point of the Vivo U20: indeed, while it sports a better display and hardware department, if you care about photo quality then you’d better go for the Redmi Note 8 or the Realme 5s. Both have a 48 MP quad camera, but currently, the MIUI seems to have a slightly better algorithm for imaging, at least from what I’ve seen by testing Realme and Redmi devices.

Battery

Realme 5s and Vivo U20 are the battery champions here: they come with a huge 5000 mAh battery, while Redmi Note 8 offers just a 4000 mAh unit. Between Realme 5s and Vivo U20, the former should last more since it has to manage a display with a lower resolution.

Price

Vivo U20 just debuted with a €151/$166 price tag (Rs. 11,990), while Redmi Note 8 starts from Rs. 9,999 (€126/$139) just like the Realme 5s. Due to its better display, huge battery and higher performance, Vivo U20 is the most interesting handset overall, but only if you do not care a lot about photo quality (in that case Redmi Note 8 is a better option, or Realme 5s if you need a bigger battery instead of an FHD+ display).

However, that order does not necessarily mean that the most expensive phone is the best for your needs. Given that all of these handsets are sold in the price range from €100 to €200, there are no huge differences between their specifications, in most cases. So, it may not be easy for dummies to understand which one is the most interesting. That is why we made this comparison between all of the devices from the Realme 5 series.

Design

Realme 5s is just a slight upgrade of the Realme 5 and it has exactly the same design, the same dimensions, and the same aesthetics. Realme 5 Pro has the same look as well, but it is more compact and lighter. Each of these three devices features a plastic design, so do not expect premium materials. But their displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 3+ and all of them are splash resistant, so the build quality is still pretty nice. Besides being more compact, the Realme 5 Pro even comes with a slightly higher screen-to-body ratio, that is why we recommend it if you care about the design.

Display

If having a good display is your priority, the most suitable smartphone for you is the Realme 5 Pro. Indeed, Realme 5 and 5s have just an HD+ panel, and it even comes with a very wide diagonal that results in a low pixel density. Its definition is sufficient but below-average. If you want a high level of detail and a better panel, choose the Realme 5 Pro since it comes with a Full HD+ resolution. It has a smaller display diagonal (6.3 inches), but it is a lot better due to its high pixel density. Each of them comes with a waterdrop notch and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader since here we are talking about IPS panel not supporting in-display biometric sensors.

Specs & Software

Realme 5 Pro also wins the performance battle since it is equipped with a more powerful processor. It is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 running at a max frequency of 2.3 GHz. There is only one Qualcomm’s midrange chipset better than the Snapdragon 712: it is the Snapdragon 730G found on the Realme X2. Both Realme 5 and Realme 5s are equipped with a Snapdragon 665 SoC. In each case you get a micro SD dedicated slot, a memory configuration with up to 4 GB of RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage, and Android 9 Pie out of the box customized by the Color OS user interface.

Camera

The weakest point of the Realme 5 if we compare it with Realme 5s and 5 Pro is the camera department. The 5s and the 5 Pro are way better camera phone and they feature the same quad rear camera including a main 48 MP shooter, an ultrawide sensor, a dedicated macro camera, and a depth sensor. Even the Realme 5 has a quad camera, but the main sensor is an inferior 12 MP unit. None of these smartphones is a top camera phone, but with Realme 5s and 5 Pro, you will get pretty decent shots. Note that, while Realme 5 Pro has the same rear cameras as the 5s, it packs a different (and better) 16 MP front camera.

Battery

Realme 5 and 5s are battery monsters and win this comparison due to their higher 5000 mAh capacity paired with a more efficient HD+ display. The battery life of these phones should be the same in every scenario. Realme 5 Pro has a smaller battery but it features a faster charging technology: VOOC 3.0 with a 20W power.

Price

Realme 5 has a €113/$125 price tag in India, Realme 5s will start from €125/$138 and Realme 5 Pro costs €176/$195. So far, the only upgrade is the primary camera which is now a 48MP sensor compared to the 12MP sensor of the Realme 5. Ahead of the phone’s launch, a Geekbench benchmark result has surfaced.

The Realme 5s was benchmarked today, appearing as the realme RMX1925. It runs Android 9 Pie and has 4GB of RAM. Its 1.8GHz octa-core processor codenamed trinket is the Snapdragon 665 processor. This is the same codename that appeared on the Geekbench result of the Realme 5 and Xiaomi Mi CC9e.

The device scored 314 points in the single-core test and 1368 points in the multi-core test.

The Realme 5s will pack a 6.51-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch. The processor will draw power from a 5000mAh battery. While the capacity is the same as that of the Realme 5, we hope it comes with support for fast charging and not 5V 2A like the Realme 5.

Realme has also confirmed the phone will have quad cameras and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Realme 5s will come in a new red color variant which should be called Crystal Red. It will also be available in Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple just like the Realme 5.

There are reports the price tag of the Realme 5s is INR 8,999 (~$125). That is cheaper than the price tag of the upcoming 3GB RAM + 32GB version of the Redmi Note 8; a phone with the same chipset and 48MP quad rear cameras too but a sharper display and a smaller battery capacity.

The provided image reveals it will be available in Crystal Red and have a fingerprint scanner on the back. So far, the 48MP camera seems to be the only difference between it and the Realme 5. We hope there is more, maybe even 18W fast charging.

Realme will announce the phone on November 20 alongside the Realme X2 Pro flagship phone.

Realme 5s Specifications and Features (Rumored)

According to recent reports, the Realme 5s is rumored to sport similar hardware as the Realme 5 with the primary difference being the 48-megapixel camera on the 5s. The Realme 5 has a 12-megapixel primary camera. Unsurprisingly, the Realme 5s is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM with provision for external storage via MicroSD card.

In terms of optics, the Realme 5s flaunts a 48-megapixel primary sensor, with an 8-megapixel lens and two 2-megapixel sensors. The 48-megapixel primary sensor colud either be the Sony IMX586 or Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GM1. There is a slight debacle on the subject. The smartphone likely features a 13-megapixel selfie camera. It draws power from a 5,000 mAh battery that supports fast charge, and is likely to run on Android 9.0 Pie-based ColorOS 6. There is no additional information on price or availability as of yet.

This new phone will launch as the Realme 5s.

Flipkart has set up a landing page for the Realme X2 Pro and at the top left corner of the page are the words “realme 5s Coming Soon”. This is the second proof of the device’s existence following its certification by Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) in October.

The Realme 5s has the model number RMX1925 but other than this, its specifications are unknown. However, we believe the differences between the Realme 5 and Realme 5s will be marginal.

Realme is expected to announce “other surprises” at the Realme X2 Pro event on November 20. There are reports the young brand will unveil its first fitness tracker on that day but the Realme 5s looks like it will show up too.
