In late September 2020, realme started recruiting beta testers for realme C2 Android 10 update. So it took the company over four months to deliver the stable update.

Even now, the realme UI update for realme C2 is only available for select users, as per PiunikaWeb. In other words, it is being rolled out in batches to avoid any mishap. Therefore, the update may take more time to reach every unit.

That said, the update comes with firmware version C.53 and January 2021 security patch. Further, it weighs around 2.1GB for users on the stable channel and only 164MB for those who were part of the beta program. Also, since this device is an entry-level smartphone, users won’t find all the features of realme UI, which is basically ColorOS 7 with some minor tweaks here and there.

Anyway, realme has fulfilled its promise of delivering the Android 10 update to realme C2. Also, this device is the last realme smartphone to get the realme UI update.

What should interest most fans the most is the news that the budget Realme C2 will receive the Android 10-based Realme UI update in September. The Realme C2 was a top-selling model that was launched in India and some other South East Asia markets such as the Philippines last year. A new update for the phone will open up new Android 10 features to users as well as bring a new UI design and other custom features.

Realme’s newly introduced flash tool for installing ColorOS/Realme UI updates on its devices will be made available to more Android 10-powered Realme devices. Prior to this disclosure, the flash tool is only compatible with the X50 Pro. The CEO promised to update fans via the Realme community forums as soon as the flash tool receives support for more devices.

Madhav Sheth also announced that the Realme Band has started receiving the music controls feature via an OTA update. He also disclosed that the brand is working on new watch faces wrist band with the new watch faces scheduled to roll out pretty soon. The Realme Watch is also getting a new update which will usher in an improved notification management system.

As for the devices that the company is planning to launch in India, Sheth disclosed that a new 55-inch ‘flagship’ Realme TV will be launched in India next month. He also hinted that a wireless charger will be unveiled in India later this month.

CEO Madhav Sheth has plans to double that figure in 2020. Realme launched in May 2018, and swiftly became a favorite with the Indian youngsters. Realme’s portfolio has emerged as a strong contender against seasoned players like Xiaomi and Samsung.

According to Sheth’s statement to PTI, “We conclude our business for 2019 by selling 15 million smartphones. We plan to double the figure in 2020”. Realme currently enjoys a 14.3 percent market share. Xiaomi is the undisputed winner with 27.1 percent, followed by Samsung with 18.9 percent and Vivo with a 15.2 percent share of the market in the third quarter.

Unlike other Chinese manufacturers like Oppo and Vivo, Realme adapted Xiaomi’s online-first strategy closely, helping it reach the fourth spot within one year of commencing business. Both Vivo and Oppo were busy focusing on channel marketing during its initial years. According to CEO Sheth, who co-founded Realme with BBK Electronics, Realme is the world’s seventh fastest-growing smartphone manufacturer.

Designed for the mid-range, the new series will be an all-rounder with better aesthetics, battery, and performance. “Our focus is on designing trendy products with enhanced performance and a range of smart yet affordable accessories. Realme plans to emerge as a trendy lifestyle electronics brand for 2020” Sheth added.

So, today, the company announced a new member of the Series, UMIDIGI A3S that comes with stock Android 10 and a super-low price of just $59.99 at launch! The phone -together with the bit more powerful A3X- will go live on December 9th.

Undoubtedly, the killer feature of the new device is the pure stock Android 10 running on it. Not many devices come with Android 10 right now and even fewer belong to the entry-level segment. So it is a big step for the company as they go ahead of other, more expensive devices, on the software front. Of course, the A3S provides the new Android 10 features such as system-wide dark mode and privacy controls.

But will it be usable? We are pretty sure it will be as it comes with the 12nm MT6761 SoC which is pretty competent. Also, the phone houses a big 3950mAh battery that combined with the rest of the hardware should last more than a day on a single charge. What’s more, there is a dual rear camera comprising of a 16MP main lens and a 5MP depth lens for bokeh effect.

Last year’s UMIDIGI A3 became an instant hit and now the Chinese manufacturer is getting ready to release its successor, the UMIDIGI A3S that will be the most affordable smartphone with stock Android 10 OS.

Only a few entry-level devices feature the latest OS version from Google as most are running on last year’s Android 9 or even worse, Android 8. To that perspective, it’s nice to see that UMIDIGI is bringing all Android 10 features and security to the entry-level segment. Android 10 is smoother and has many new features like system-wide dark mode, live caption, and privacy controls.

Also, looking at the photos of the device we can confirm that the A3S will come with a dual rear camera as well as a fingerprint sensor. The phone will have two color variants, Space Grey and the iPhone-like Midnight Green. On the front, the A3S is equipped with a notchless display. Yes, the top and bottom bezels may be a bit on the large side but many users still prefer this over the notch. Judging from its predecessor, the A3S should be quite compact and should come with dual 2.5D glass with metal frame design, dual 4G VoLTE, global network bands, as well as triple card slots.

As for its debut price, it is rumored that during the open sale it will cost just $59.99! The A3S will hit the market early next month. In the meantime, UMIDIGI is running a big Giveaway to recruit 10 trial users for its new smartwatch, UWatch GT.

Design

The new Aura Mirror design scheme of the Redmi 8 is definitely very attractive. It adopts a camera module placed at the center of the back cover alongside the Redmi logo placed vertically and a reflective back with suggestive light effects. It is surely the most interesting, despite it is made of plastic just like its rivals. Some may like the Realme C2 more since it has a more minimalistic design. But the Redmi 8 is also splash resistant with the P2i hydrophobic coating, while Realme C2 is not. Note that Realme C2 lacks a fingerprint reader, while Redmi 8 and Samsung Galaxy M10s have a rear-mounted biometric sensor.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy M10s is one of the few entry-level smartphones to sport an AMOLED display, and it definitely deserves the first place in the display comparison. It shows more brilliant colors and deeper blacks, even though the resolution is the same as Redmi 8 and Realme C2. Samsung Galaxy M10s also offers another important advantage: it has a larger display diagonal, that is excellent for people who want a comfortable phone for multimedia and productivity. So if you want the best display, go for the Galaxy M10s.

Specs & Software

Redmi 8 wins the hardware comparison because it comes with a more reliable SoC and a better memory configuration. It is equipped with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, while Realme C2 offers max 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of native storage. There is a micro SD dedicated slot in each case, but it is not the same as having more internal storage. Android 9 Pie is installed out of the box.

Camera

Due to its pretty nice primary sensor and the presence of an ultrawide sensor, I personally prefer the Samsung Galaxy M10s if we consider camera departments. Currently, it is not easy to find an ultrawide sensor on an entry-level phone with a so affordable price tag. Further, the main camera has a bright aperture and it behaves well in most of the conditions. In the second place, we got the Redmi 8 which still comes with a bright focal aperture, but it lacks the ultrawide sensor. Realme C2 is inferior and we are talking about both the rear and front camera setup.

Battery

The real battery champion here is the Redmi 8 for the most simple reason: it sports a much bigger battery. And it even supports 18W fast charging. If you do not stress it too much, you can get up to three days of battery life on a single charge.

Price

You can grab a unit of the Redmi 8 for just €100/$110, Samsung Galaxy M10s starts from €115/$127, and Realme C2 starts from €95/$105. Note that the above-mentioned prices are referred to as the Redmi 8 with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, the Realme C2 in the 2/16 GB configuration and the Galaxy M10s with 3/32 GB. With the actual prices, the Redmi 8 is an overall better smartphone due to its higher amount of RAM and storage, as well as a bigger battery. But Samsung Galaxy M10s still deserves an award due to its great display, bigger display size, and ultrawide camera.

On Flipkart, Realme has been the bestselling smartphone brand since June, July and August. In August, Realme accounted for 41.5 percent of smartphones sales on the retailer site. Xiaomi came second with 30.2 percent and Vivo was next with 6.8 percent sales. Hence, the Chinese brand is celebrating festive sales on Flipkart until Oct. 4.

During the ongoing sales on Flipkart, customers who purchase a Realme phone can avail the Complete Mobile Protection plan only for Re. 1. The reason behind it is that CMIR Mobile Industry Consumer Insights have rated Realme as the number one Quality Smartphone Brand in September.

Design

Xiaomi renewed the design of the whole Redmi line-up this year, including the Redmi 8A. But, at least according to my tastes, the Redmi 8A is not the best option when it comes to aesthetics. Besides sporting an original back with a “prismatic pattern”, the Realme C2 is also a more compact phone than the Redmi 8A, that is why it is my favorite one. On the other hand, even if Redmi 8A is a slightly bigger phone, it has a higher screen-to-body ratio, and that is why some may like it more than its rivals. But note that in each case, you get a device with a plastic body.

Display

The displays of these smartphones are just acceptable. They all come with a standard HD+ resolution, definitely nothing special, but not disappointing. On the paper, Realme C2 and Redmi 8A offer slightly better panels. But not any of them has what we can call an above-average display. So you’d better go ahead and pay attention to other specifications.

Specs & Software

In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 439 chipset looks slightly better than the Helio P35 found on the Honor 8A. But it is just a marginal difference. What you should consider more is the amount of internal storage: the Honor 8A comes with up of 64 GB of storage, while Redmi 8A stops at 32 GB. The Realme C2 loses this comparison because it is equipped with a lower-end Helio P22 chipset. All come with Android 9 Pie out of the box and we already know that Redmi 8A will be soon updated to MIUI 11.

Camera

The 12 MP Sony sensor on board of the Redmi 8A makes it the best camera phone of the trio with a bright focal aperture and very detailed photos, even when light conditions are not the best. The phone also features a pretty nice front camera. Realme C2 has a dual camera and, while its main sensor is not at the same level as the Redmi 8A, the secondary sensor allows capturing depth info better. Even Honor 8A is an interesting camera phone in its price range, but I personally prefer the main sensor of the Redmi 8A.

Battery

The presence of a 5000 mAh battery on the Redmi 8A will make it last three days on a single charge even with pretty intensive usage. It wins the battery comparison and it will probably be one of the longest-lasting phones of this year. Redmi 8A is also the only phone here to support fast charging. The silver medal goes to the Realme C2 which is not the best battery monster of this trio but still features a huge 4000 mAh battery, that is a lot for a phone with an entry-level chipset and an HD display.

Price

As you already know, the price is the strongest point of these handsets. You need just €77/$84 to grab a unit of the Realme C2. Redmi 8A starts from just $91/€83, while Honor 8A costs about €100/$110 globally. At the end of the day, there is no challenge: Redmi 8A is definitely a better device due to its bigger battery, amazing SoC (for the price range) and great cameras. Realme C2 takes the second place.

Still, we think there is a sufficient amount of low-end device for every basic user with a low budget.
Design

The design is one of the weakest points when it comes to cheap phones. Under €100, you almost always get a cheap polycarbonate body. And that is exactly the case with this trio. Redmi 7A has definitely too thick bezels around the display, so it is not recommended if you want stunning aesthetics. But it has an awesome build quality and it is splash resistant. With their waterdrop displays and slimmer bezels, Realme C2 and Honor Play 8 are more beautiful with the latter being the most compact and lightweight one.

Display

Classic IPS displays with a pretty small size and an HD+ resolution, in each case. The quality of the display is not the key feature of these devices, despite they still offer a sufficient level of detail. So do not judge them basing on the display, just choose the display size which mostly fits your needs. Realme C2 has a wider panel, so if you love multimedia, navigation or productivity it may be better for you.

Specs & Software

The Mediatek Helio P22 chipset on board of the Realme C2 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 found on the Redmi 7A have pretty similar performances, while the Helio A22 of the Honor Play 8 is inferior under every point of view. I personally prefer the Snapdragon 439 due to its more interesting Adreno GPU, but differences are very marginal. In each case, you get Android 9 Pie out of the box and pretty nice software optimization, so you should not worry so much about performance if you are a basic user. All of these devices have a dual SIM slot and a micro SD dedicated slot (you can use both dual SIM and micro SD at the same time). Note that Honor Play 8 is the only with Bluetooth 5.0 (the latest Bluetooth standard).

Camera

If you are seeking the best camera quality, Honor Play 8 should be the best in low light scenarios due to its bright focal aperture which helps to capture more detail with less digital noise. On the other hand, Realme C2 is also nice because it has an additional depth sensor on the back and it makes a better bokeh effect. Forget to get a camera phone if you are going to buy one of these phones, but for emergency shots, they are not so disappointing.

Battery

The big disadvantage of the Honor Play 8 is the presence of an average 3000 mAh battery, while its opponents have much bigger 4000 and 4230 mAh battery, respectively. The Realme C2 has the longest battery life and it can last up to three days if you do not stress it so much. Right after, there is Redmi 7A which even supports fast charging in its version for the Chinese market (the power is 10W).

Price

The main reason why it makes sense to buy these devices is obviously their incredibly affordable price. Realme C2 starts from just €78, Xiaomi Redmi 7A costs €100/$112 in its base variant, and Honor Play 8 carries a €107/$120 price tag. At the end of the day, Realme C2 looks like the most complete device with its wider display, a huge battery, a dual camera, great performances, and a very nice design. I would not go for the Honor Play 8 due to its smaller battery, but note that it comes with a pretty interesting rear camera.

In less than four months Huawei and its sub-brand Honor already announced almost 20 smartphones, that is huge. And we are talking about phones for every pocket, ranging between all the price ranges. The latest ones are entry-level devices for people with a very low budget: we are talking about the Honor 8S and Huawei Y5 2019. Another entry-level which is receiving a lot of consensuses is the Realme C2 from Oppo’s sub-brand. Given that we think these entry-level are currently among the most interesting ones, here is a specs comparison which may help you to decide which handset to choose under $150.

Design

Usually, smartphone manufacturers do not put many efforts into the aesthetics of entry-level phones. But Huawei Y5 (2019) is an exception, at least in one variant. We are talking about the stunning version of the handset which comes with a faux leather body, that is very unique, elegant and premium. And it is also pretty nice protection against drops. If you do not like leather, or at least not on a phone, then you may prefer the Realme C2 with its diamond-cut body. But note that it is a cheap polycarbonate body, unlike high-end devices which come with aluminum or glass designs. Unfortunately, none of these devices has a fingerprint reader on the back, neither in the display.

Display

Low-end displays in each case, so do not expect a great viewing quality. They feature only HD resolution, so their level of detail is not extreme. It would be better if you start caring about the size here. The Oppo Realme C2 comes with a larger diagonal: 6.1 inches, so it is more comfortable to use for multimedia lovers and productivity users. On the other hand, Honor 8S and Huawei Y5 2019 come with 5.71-inch panels that fit better in one hand or in a pocket. But when it comes to daily use, they may be more frustrating while using advanced apps or browsing the web.

Specs & Software

Talking about the hardware department, the Realme C2 is one step forward compared to both the Honor 8S and Huawei Y5 2019, as it is powered by a more powerful processor. We are talking about the octa-core Helio P22 by MediaTek with a max frequency of 2 GHz, while Honor 8S and Huawei Y5 2019 come with the Helio A22 which has just 4 cores running at 2 GHz. Further, Realme C2 has up to 3 GB of RAM, while Huawei Y5 (2019) comes with just 2 GB. An advantage of the Honor 8S is that it comes with up to 64 GB of internal storage, while Realme C2 has max 32 GB. But in each case, you can furtherly expand the internal storage through a micro SD dedicated slot. These phones have a customized user interface based on Android Pie installed out of the box.

Camera

Realme C2 comes with a dual camera setup on its rear side, so it should be better at calculating depth info. However, despite the Honor 8S and the Huawei Y5 2019 have just a single camera, we believe they will click better photos in a lot of environments due to their brighter focal aperture.

Battery

The battery is the element which makes the Realme C2 really stand out compared to the competition. It has a 4000 mAh battery and it also sports very efficient components, such as the HD display. That is why it can even provide three days with moderate usage patterns, and it definitely wins the battery comparison as its opponents stop at just 3020 mAh.
