OnePlus recently debuted its Nord CE 4 Lite 5G smartphone in the global market including India. The device comes with many significant upgrades over its predecessor, including an improved display, improved camera as well a bigger and faster charging speeds. However, there are many other choices in this sub-20,000 INR that are also clad with attractive features. We recently made a comparison with the iQOO Z9, and in this article, we will put the Nord CE 4 Lite 5G against the Realme Narzo 70 Pro.

Display: Similar but no HDR on the OnePlus

Both the Nord CE 4 Lite 5G and the Narzo 70 Pro feature boxy designs, with flat sides and backs however, the Nord CE 4 Lite has a relatively minimalistic camera island compared to the large circular camera island which is quite common these days. Both devices feature an all-plastic body.

On the front, there isn’t that much of a difference with both devices offering a 6.67-inch 1080 x 2400 pixels screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and 600 nits of typical brightness. Both smartphones also have a peak brightness of around 2000 nits, however, only the Narzo 70 Pro is capable of playing HDR videos, so this peak brightness number is kind of useless on the Nord CE 4 Lite.

Performance: Narzo has the advantage

The Narzo 70 Pro features a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 chip, while the Nord CE 4 Lite features the three-year-old Snapdragon 695 processor. This chip has also been onboard the Nord CE 3 Lite and CE 2 Lite 5G, which means that the device is still stuck on the performance levels of the 2022 model. While the devices are pretty similar in single-core performance, the Nazro has an advantage in multicore tasks. Additionally, the Narzo also offers better graphics performance, if you plan on gaming on your device.

Realme’s offering also has an upper hand when it comes to storage, as it uses UFS 3.1 technology, compared to the UFS 2.2 used on the OnePlus device. This means that launching apps, loading files, and transferring data will be noticeably faster on the Narzo 70 Pro.

The only saving grace for the Nord CE 4 Lite is its slightly bigger 5,500mAh battery and faster 80W charging. In comparison, the Narzo Z0 Pro has a 5,000mAh battery and 67W fast charging.

Camera: Superior sensors on the Narzo

Compared to its predecessor, the CE 4 Lite comes with a significantly improved 50 MP Sony LYT-600 sensor. That said, the Narzo 70 Pro outclasses the OnePlus offering yet again with its OIS-assisted 50 MP Sony IMX890 camera sensor. For those unaware, the IMX890 is a flagship-grade camera sensor that has previously been used in devices like the OnePlus 11, OnePlus 12R, and the Nothing Phone (2).

The secondary sensor on the CE 4 Lite is a 2 MP depth sensor, while the Narzo 70 Pro offers an 8 MP ultrawide (f/2.2) along with a 2 MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. On the front, both drives use a 16 MP sensor for snapping selfies.

Software

Software has typically been an area where OnePlus devices excel. However, since Realme UI 5.0 and OxygenOS 14 now share the same codebase, they are very similar. Both devices feature minimal bloatware.

As for software support, both drives are promised 2 major Android updates along with three years of security patches. They have both launched with Android 14 onboard so users can expect updates till Android 16.

Pricing

The OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G has launched for ₹19,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, whereas the 8GB + 256GB model costs ₹22,999. The drive will go on sale starting June 27 with a Rs 1,000 instant discount for ICICI Bank and OneCard cardholders.

On the flip side, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G was also launched for ₹19,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model and ₹21,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model. That said, the brand is currently offering the device with a massive ₹4,000 and ₹5,000 discounts on these variants, knocking their prices down to ₹15,999 and ₹16,999.

Verdict

Despite the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G offering several upgrades over its predecessor, its reliance on the outdated Snapdragon 695 processor puts it at a disadvantage in the sub-₹20,000 price range. In contrast, the Narzo 70 Pro boasts a superior processor, significantly faster storage, and a better camera setup.

While the Nord CE 4 Lite’s battery life and fast charging are commendable, they do not sufficiently compensate for the other compromises. Moreover, Realme is set to rain on OnePlus’s parade by offering significant discounts on the Narzo 70 Pro 5G, making it an even more appealing option.

The sub-20K INR price segment (~$250) continues to be the hottest category in the Indian smartphone market in terms of sales. However, the products aren’t as interesting to tech enthusiasts as they used to be earlier.

The Redmi Notes were once the de facto option for no matter who. While the Realme numbers were an alternative.

With an increase in prices, these product lineups left a big shoe to fill in for others. But that never happened until now

Recently, Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G went official in India. Historically, Narzo phones have offered better value than their cousin Realme number series.

That’s no different this time either. In fact, I would say the Narzo series has one-upped its game.

In my opinion, Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G is the first interesting sub-20K INR smartphone after the hugely popular Redmi Note 10 Pro from 2021. Here’s why I think this way.

What made Redmi Note 10 Pro special?

Most premium smartphones are best at everything the brand can offer. On the other hand, in the budget category, phones shine in one or a few categories.

Therefore, you get lots of options as each device caters to a different audience. But once in a while, there are some products that excel in almost everything in their segment. The Redmi Note 10 Pro was one of those handsets.

It not only just had an AMOLED display but one with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1200 nits peak brightness level, and HDR10+ support. The device was powered by the most powerful 4G-only Qualcomm mid-range chipset — Snapdragon 732G.

Further, it came with a 108MP primary camera and a 5MP telemacro camera. Both these sensors were unheard of in this segment.  It also housed Doldby Atmo-supported dual stereo speakers and a large 5,020mAh battery with support for 33W wired charging.

Finally, it had a premium look and feel with a frosted glass back build.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G is similar to Redmi Note 10 Pro in many ways

What we said about the Redmi Note 10 Pro also applies to Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G to a great extent. Simply put, we can consider Narzo as the 5G version of Note.

The Narzo 70 Pro 5G has the brightest display in its segment with 2000 nits local peak brightness level. The screen-to-body ratio is not the best but not so far behind at 92.65% compared to Redmi Note 13’s 93.3%.

The handset’s primary highlights are its design and cameras. It is one of the few phones in the segment with a glass back and that too with a dual-tone finish (matte and glossy).

Most importantly, it has a flagship-grade Sony IMX890 primary camera with OIS. It is the first and the only device in its segment to feature this sensor.

The handset is powered by a Dimensity 7050 chip, which is only slower than the Dimensity 7200 SoC present inside its direct competitor iQOO Z9 5G. While in other departments, Narzo aces over iQOO with features like 67W wired charging and others mentioned above.

In other words, just like the Redmi Note 10 Pro, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G caters to all types of consumers, including enthusiasts.

But there’s one notable difference

The Redmi Note 10 Pro was a multi-channel product. In simpler words, it was available widely across both offline and online channels. Thus, it not only had more reach but also several financing options to make it approachable to more consumers.

Whereas the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G is an online-esclusive product. It is only sold through Realme.com and Amazon. Thus, its reach is about half as that of Redmi Note 10 Pro.

Therefore, I don’t think that the Realme smartphone will be as popular as Redmi despite being the best product in the sub-20K INR price segment

Realme is set to launch the Narzo 70 Pro 5G smartphone in India next week. The brand has been teasing key details about the upcoming offering. Now, ahead of the official launch, Realme has revealed the early bird sale and offers for customers who are interested in the Narzo 70 Pro 5G. Read on to know all the details below.

Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G early bird sale details 

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will be available as a part of an early bird sale on March 19, 6 pm IST. That is six hours after the phone’s announcement. The company will bundle Buds T300 wireless earphones worth Rs 2,299 with the smartphone. However, this is subject to as long as stocks last. Buyers who exchange their old handset will be eligible for an additional Rs 2,000 instant discount. There will be 6-month no-cost EMI option as well. 

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G is confirmed to feature a dual-tone back panel where the top portion has a glossy finish and the rest of the panel has a matte texture. The smartphone is confirmed to come with 10 creative air gestures and also Rainwater Smart Touch technology. It will ship with 65 per cent less bloatware out of the box. The brand says that the upcoming offering has the largest sensor in the segment with a Sony IMX890 OIS-enabled main camera. Here, Realme mentions the segment under Rs 30,000 segment. 

The Narzo 70 Pro 5G is expected to have a 120Hz AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery with support for 67W charging, and Android 14 OS.  We should learn more details about the smartphone at the launch event next Tuesday.

The company is yet to confirm the launch date of the Narzo 70 Pro 5G, but its landing page available on Amazon has revealed some of its key features. The updated page now reveals that the smartphone will sport a glass back with a dual-tone finish.

According to the brand, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will be the segment’s only smartphone to feature a glass design. As can be seen, the device sports an arc design with a dual-tone finish. While the top part that houses the round camera module has a glossy finish, the remaining part seems to have a matte finish.

The Narzo 70 Pro 5G is confirmed to feature an OIS-enabled 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 primary camera. The brand is yet to confirm the details of its other cameras. The company has also revealed that the device will have 65 percent less bloatware than before. In addition, the device will come with support for over ten air gestures.

On the front, the Narzo 70 Pro 5G sports a flat display. However, the company is yet to confirm the display size and resolution. However, it is speculated to feature a 6.67-inch AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.

On the front, it may feature a 16-megapixel selfie camera, and its rear may feature a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera system. The device is expected to feature the Dimensity 7050 chipset and pack a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

Realme is preparing to launch the Narzo 70 Pro 5G as its first Narzo phone of the year. The landing page of the phone listed on Amazon has confirmed it will launch in March in the country. The website initially showcased the rear design of the smartphone, but the updated version now reveals its front appearance.

As shown in the image above, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will feature a flat display with slim bezels. The image also provides a clear view of the phone’s flat-edged design. While the display size of the Narzo 70 Pro 5G remains uncertain, it is confirmed to have a 120Hz AMOLED display with rainwater touch support, enabling its screen to be used with wet hands.

The device is likely to come preloaded with Realme UI 5-based Android 14. While the company is yet to confirm its software, it has revealed that the device will have 65 percent fewer pre-installed apps.

Under the hood, the Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will have the Dimensity 7050 chipset. The camera setup of the device will have a 50-megapixel Sony IMX890 main camera, which will have support for 2x in-sensor zoom and OIS. There will be an ultra-wide lens with a 112-degree FOV in addition to it. However, there is no information about the third camera on the device.

The Realme Narzo 70 Pro 5G will replace the Realme Narzo 60 Pro 5G, which debuted last year. One of the major attractions of the predecessor model was that it came equipped with 1 TB of storage. It remains to be seen whether the successor edition will have a 1 TB variant.
