Nubia has announced a limited Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition for the Chinese market. The highlight of this variant is its transparent rear glass panel and 16GB RAM. The handset is priced at 5,199 yuan ($735) and will be available to purchase on June 14.

The new Nubia Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition features the same specifications as other variants of the device. But it comes with a distinct design and a whopping 16GB LPDDR5 as the high-end regular variant.

As the name suggests, the back of the phone features a transparent rear glass panel which showcases the fake internals just like the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 9 Explorer Editions. 

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC seen inside the phone is a plastic prop but the layout is accurate. To see the actual internals, you might want to have a look at Zach Nelson’s (JerryRigEverything) teardown video on YouTube.

Having said that, though the rear is fake, it does look cool, especially the physical fan and the patterns. 

Unfortunately, if you are interested in buying the Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition, it is not possible since this version of the handset is currently limited to China. The brand is yet to reveal if it will be ever made available outside its home country.

Anyway, you can still grab the new Hot Rod Red Edition of the phone, which has an Iron Man vibe to it.

Earlier this year, Nubia had launched its 2020 5G flagship, the Red Magic 5G. The handset is already available in many countries across the globe in different color options. Now, a fourth and special variant is also making its way to the market, which is the Transparent Edition.

The Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition is now available for pre-orders in China. It will go for a price of 4,599 Yuan (roughly 647 US Dollars). This is for the 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage variant. Despite its name having the word transparent, the smartphone’s rear panel isn’t actually see through. Rather, the back panel actually has a special sticker on the inside of the protective glass, which showcases where key internal components are housed.

According to the Nubia, one can see the actual fan spinning around, but that is just a marketing gimmick at this point since its just a rendition and not the actual component being visible. Apart from the special rear panel, the handset is similar to a regular Red Magic 5G. It still sports its 144Hz refresh rate display and features top notch specs like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 SoC.

At the moment, pre-orders for the Nubia Red Magic 5G is currently available on JD.com. However, the actual sale will begin on the 31st of May 2020. The launch is also hinted to announce a new 16GB RAM variant of the Red Magic 5G. Although, this has yet to be officially confirmed by the company. So stay tuned.

Transparent gadgets are really cool and have existed for decades. For example, different iterations of the Nintendo GameBoy have transparent editions. Microsoft and Sony also have transparent versions of their controllers. The mobile industry has also jumped on the train and you can find phones from HTC and Xiaomi with a see-through body. Nubia’s CEO has announced today that the Red Magic 5G will have a transparent edition and from the promotional video shared, we love it already.

Nubia is toeing the same line as Xiaomi with its Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition. What I mean is that what you actually see are not the device’s internals (save for the built-in fan) but a 3D printed one which of course looks much better than the real deal.

However, what makes it awesome is that you get to see the built-in cooling fan in action. That definitely makes for a cool party trick, right?

The printed board does list some of the device’s specs such as the Snapdragon 865 processor, LPDDR5 RAM, Wi-Fi 6, 144Hz refresh rate, and support for SA and NSA networks/Dual Mode 5G.

The Nubia Red Magic 5G Transparent Edition will definitely cost more than the other color variants. We also won’t be surprised if it is available at a much later date and not at the same time as the standard version.

So far we already know the phone will be available in at least three colorways. TENAA already revealed there will be a version with a mix of blue and red and we have also seen a real-life photo of this version. We also know there will be a bright red version thanks to the camera teaser poster.

The Red Magic 5G is shaping up to be a pretty interesting gaming smartphone. Nubia already confirmed it will have a 16GB RAM version, support for 55W fast charging, and a 64MP Sony camera. It will also run Android 10 out of the box.
