Under the hood, the 10 Pro boasts several subtle yet significant upgrades that differentiate it from the 9 Pro. Let’s explore the seven key areas where these two gaming phones are nearly twins while highlighting the crucial distinctions that set them apart.

Display Improvements

While both phones flaunt a 6.85-inch AMOLED display with 1B colors, the Red Magic 10 Pro takes the lead with its 144Hz refresh rate, surpassing the 120Hz of the Red Magic 9 Pro. Additionally, the new phone supports a higher 1.5K resolution of 2688 x 1216 pixels instead of 2480 x 1116 pixels. Nubia claimed peak brightness of 1600 nits and a high-frequency dimming of 2160Hz for the Red Magic 9 Pro. The successor edition promises a maximum brightness of 2000 nits and 2592Hz PWM high-frequency dimming.

Performance and Storage Enhancements

While both phones are powered by flagship Snapdragon processors, the 10 Pro features the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite. This newer chip promises a considerable boost in performance and efficiency compared to the 9 Pro’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Furthermore, Nubia has integrated its upgraded Red Core R3 chip in the 10 Pro, which brings support for 2K resolution 120fps gaming.

Pricing differences

The Red Magic 10 Pro comes with a slightly higher price tag compared to the 9 Pro. The base model of the 10 Pro with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 4,999 Yuan (~$690), while the equivalent variant of the 9 Pro costs 4,799 Yuan (~$675).

The top-end model of the 10 Pro, featuring 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, is priced at 5,799 Yuan (~$800), compared to the 5,199 Yuan (~$750) for the 9 Pro.

Red Magic 9 Pro gaming smartphone now shipping to India: Here’s how much it costs

Red Magic has finally made its flagship Red Magic 9 Pro gaming smartphone available in India. This Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered device was initially launched in the global market back in December 2023. That said, the brand is shipping these phones from its global website to Indian customers, so you won’t be able to find these devices in your local market.

As for the pricing, and available configurations, the 12GB + 256GB configuration has a price tag of $649 (₹54,038), whereas the top-end 16GB + 512GB model of the device costs $799 (₹66,528). Customers in India will have to pay some additional taxes. We tried shipping these devices to New Delhi, where the total cost came out to be $895.62 (₹74,573) for the 12GB + 256GB config and $1,102 (₹91,757) for the 16GB + 512GB config.

While these prices may look excessive, the Red Magic 9 Pro will still cost comparatively less than the ROG Phone 8 Pro, which is the only other current-gen gaming smartphone available in India. The ROG Phone 8 Pro has a starting price of ₹94,999 (16GB + 512GB), while the 24GB + 1TB model costs ₹1,19,999.

Red Magic 9 Pro specs:

The Red Magic 9 Pro features a 6.8-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 960Hz touch response rate. The screen supports 10-bit color depth, covers 100% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and reaches a brightness of 1600 nits. It includes an in-display fingerprint sensor for security and shoulder triggers for gaming.

Powered by the Octa-Core Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor and Adreno 750 GPU, the phone offers multiple RAM and storage options with UFS 4.0 technology. It runs on Android 14 with Redmagic OS 9.0 and supports dual SIM cards. The camera system includes a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 16MP under-display front camera.

Interestingly, all of these events will take place on the same day (November 23) in the same country (China). Also, two of the companies will introduce handsets in the same segment (affordable premium).

According to a Chinese blog post on mydrivers, Nubia will use a combination of “ultra-high-transparency screens, miniature high-transparency pixels, and streamer high-transparency circuits” to enhance the light transmittance of the under-display camera region in the Red Magic 9 series.

This innovative approach is said to deliver lifelike camera performance. And, the full-screen display remains unblemished by any visible shadows or dark patches around the under-display camera.

In terms of heat dissipation, the Red Magic 9 Pro series will be equipped with a new ICE magic cooling system, the industry’s first 3D ice-level VC heat dissipation. This system is expected to significantly improve heat dissipation efficiency compared to traditional single-chip VC and dual-chip VC systems.

Red Magic 9 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will launch on November 23

The Red Magic 9 Pro launch is scheduled for November 23rd. This is nearly a month earlier than that of its predecessor, the RedMagic 8 Pro.

The anticipation surrounding the Red Magic 9 pro has been fueled by the recent appearance of model number NX769J in the Geekbench running library.

The results show that the Geekbench 6.1.0 scores have a bit further over time with the multi-core score going up from 6704 to 7214. The single core score also improved slightly. This could be due to optimization improvements. Overall, the scores are looking promising for the first gaming device powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and this device is likely to redefine the game performance ceiling once again.

Speaking of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, it consists of a ‘1+5+2’ configuration with a single Cortex-X4 running at 3.30 GHz, five Cortex-A720 cores, and two Cortex-A520 cores.

Three of the five mid cores (Cortex-A720) run at 3.2 GHz and the rest run at 3.00 GHz. The last two efficiency cores (Cortex-A520) are clocked at 2.3GHz.

For context, the predecessor Red Magic 8 Pro is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and had 8GB or 12 GB options for the 128GB and 256GB storage variants, while the 512 GB variant is backed by 16 GB RAM. This device also had a Red Core R2 chip self-developed by Nubia. For the display, it was a 6.8-inch panel with a 2480×1116 resolution and an under-display camera. For power, it has a 6000 mAh battery and 80w fast charging support.

The device being a gaming-centric one, has only an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro besides the 50-megapixel main on the back. The under-display selfie camera in the 6.8-inch corner-to-corner display enables an immersive viewing experience, but that’s about it. The image quality,

That being said, the UDC technology is improving year on year, and for the Red Magic 9 Pro, it is expected to be better than on the Red Magic 8 Pro.

Nubia is apparently working on its latest generation of flagship Red Magic smartphones. A new certification sighting has hinted that the Red Magic 9 and Red Magic 9 Pro launch could be right around the corner. So let’s have a look.

Red Magic 9 series surfaces on Wi-Fi Alliance

The Chinese smartphone maker’s Red Magic 9 and Red Magic 9 Pro recently surfaced on the Wi-Fi Alliance certification platform. Looking at this listing, we know that the Red Magic 9 carries the model number NX721J, while the Red Magic 9 Pro has the NX769J model number. Furthermore, it was also revealed that both high end gaming devices will run on Android 13 OS out of the box.

Red Magic 8S Pro

Unfortunately, finer details regarding the two smartphones are still unclear. Although, the Wi-Fi Alliance certification confirms support for 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. One model of the Red Magic 9 series recently surfaced on GeekBench as well, which revealed some of its key specifications. The device was equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC that is paired with up to 12GB of RAM.

Since it is a flagship gaming handset lineup, it isn’t surprising that it features top-notch specs. This series will also directly succeed the Red Magic 8 series as well as the Red Magic 8S lineup, which launched earlier this year in certain markets.
