Xiaomi has started seeding its new HyperOS to compatible devices in the global markets. However, the rollout is slow with only the Xiaomi 13 Pro and 13T Pro receiving the update in the Indian and European regions. The company’s sub-brand launched the POCO X6 Pro 5G and M6 Pro 4G with HyperOS pre-installed. Now, in a surprising development, a budget Redmi smartphone is reportedly getting the HyperOS update.

This is quite surprising since a budget device is getting the update ahead of other phones in Xiaomi’s portfolio. The brand has also not officially confirmed about the matter. It’s worth noting that the update may be rolling out in a phased manner and it should take time to arrive on all devices. It is also recommended to download it over WiFi as the file size is large.

The HyperOS update on the Redmi 12C (Amazon) has firmware version 1.0.2.0.UCVINXM. It weighs 4GB in size. The newest update also brings the January 2024 security patch. The changelog reveals same information as the HyperOS update on the Xiaomi 13 phones that was released earlier this month. It comes with new animations for more intuitive interactions. The weather app is now redesigned for a more sensory experience. The update brings streamlined notifications focussing on important information. There is a new system font supporting multiple writing systems.

Xiaomi has just launched the Redmi 12C in a new storage configuration in the Indian market. The company has released the budget grade smartphone model in a new variant with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, which it teased earlier this week.

Talking about the device itself first, the Chinese tech giant’s 12C sports a tall 6.71 inch display that offers HD+ resolution and 500 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, the device is equipped with the MediaTek Helio G85 SoC that is paired with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The Redmi 12C is powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports standard 10W charging. The front houses a 5 megapixel selfie camera, while the rear features a 50 megapixel dual camera setup.

Other notable features include, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a read mounted fingerprint scanner, microUSB port for data transfer and charging, and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. Redmi 12 has been spotted on Xiaomi’s Portugal website. The listing reveals the key specifications and the pricing of the smartphone. It was spotted by Kacper Skrzypek. It’s worth noting that Xiaomi has not officially revealed the details of the device. The Redmi 12 is expected to be the successor of the last year’s Redmi 11. Yesterday, Xiaomi permanently slashed the price of the Redmi K50i and Redmi Note 12 5G. Now the Chinese brand has announced a permanent price cut on the Xiaomi 12 Pro and Redmi 12C smartphones. The flagship Xiaomi 12 Pro is getting the second price cut after the first one of Rs 10,000 earlier this year when its successor i.e. the Xiaomi 13 Pro debuted in the country. Xiaomi 12 Pro and Redmi 12C get a permanent price cut

Post the first price cut in February this year, the Xiaomi 12 Pro’s price has been slashed permanently for the second time. This time, the smartphone’s price has been reduced by Rs 8,000 on both RAM and storage configurations. The revised price is also reflected on the brand’s official website as well as on Amazon.

The Xiaomi 12 Pro 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB variants were available for Rs 52,999 and Rs 56,999 respectively. These are now priced at Rs 44,999 and Rs 48,999 respectively. Additionally, Xiaomi is also offering flat Rs 2,000 instant discount for ICICI, HDFC, SBI, and Axis Bank credit cardholders. There is also Rs 2,000 additional exchange bonus above the base value of old smartphone. This should bring down the effective price of the Xiaomi 12 Pro.

The Redmi 12C was launched in March this year. The 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB options were priced at Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999. Only the base variant has got a price cut of Rs 200 making it available for purchase at Rs 8,799.

Back in March, Redmi launched the Redmi 12C smartphone in India. The device is targeted at customers on a budget as it costs less than Rs 10,000 (~120). Now, the brand is apparently gearing up for the launch of the Redmi 12 as the device has made an appearance on Indonesia’s TKDN certification website.

An upcoming Xiaomi device, identified by the model number 23053RN02A, has been approved by Indonesia’s TKDN authority, as indicated in a screenshot. Although the listing does not reveal the exact model name or any specifications, the model number is similar to the 23053RN02Y/L that was previously spotted in the IMEI database, suggesting that the 23053RN02A could be the Indonesian version of the Redmi 12.

The previous FCC listing of the Redmi 12 has revealed that the device has a 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. In addition to that, it will feature an operating system based on Android 13. It has a squircle camera island that features two cameras, an LED flash, and a fingerprint sensor. The device has a curved back with a textured design. On the front, there’s a flat display with thin bezels and a V-shaped notch.

Moving to the specifications, the smartphone packs a 6.71-inch display that offers high resolution. The screen is likely an LCD. Redmi 12C is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G85 processor, supplemented by LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 flash memory. The smartphone weighs around 192g and has a thickness of around 8.77mm.

For photography, the handset has a duar-rear camera unit on the back with a 50MP main sensor. There’s a 5MP snapper on the front for selfies and video calls. The 4G smartphone is fueled by a 5000mAh battery and supports 10W charging. It has the usual connectivity options like Bluetooth, WiFi, and even a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Talking about the price, the Redmi 12C starts at 699 Yuan ($101) with 4GB RAM+ 64GB storage. It is also offered in 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB storage variants, which are priced at 799 Yuan ($115) and 899 Yuan ($130), respectively. The handset is only available for purchase in Mainland China as of now.

Redmi 12C Spotted at IMEI, FCC Databases, Launch Seems Imminent

A new Redmi phone with model number 2212ARNC4L has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The device has also been spotted with the Redmi 12C moniker in the IMEI database (via. Xiaomiui). Hence, it appears that the device will be launched soon in the global market.

Earlier this year, Redmi unveiled the Redmi 10C with the Snapdragon 680 onboard in different markets. Now that the Redmi 12C name has appeared in the IMEI database, it seems that the company may skip the Redmi 11C device.

Unfortunately, there is no information available on the major specifications of the Redmi 12C. However, it does reveal that the device will support dual-band Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity. It will be preloaded with the MIUI 13 operating system. It appears that the Redmi 12C will be an entry-level phone like the Redmi 10C and Redmi 9C. The model number of the device does suggest that it will launch in December this year.

Apart from the Redmi 12C, the company is also said to be working on the Redmi 11A. A Redmi phone with the model number 22120RNC86C was spotted at TENAA in November. This device is believed to be the Redmi 11A handset. Its Indian variant has been certified by the BIS authority, whereas its global edition has been in the IMDA database recently.

The alleged Redmi 11A’s TENAA listing revealed that it has a 6.708-inch IPS LCD HD+ display, a 5-megapixel front camera, and a 50-megapixel dual-camera system. It is powered by an unknown octa-core processor that clocks at 2.0GHz. The phone is expected to feature up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of built-in storage. It will pack a 5,000mAh battery and is likely to run on MIUI 13-based Android 12 OS. Some of its other features include LTE connectivity, an IR blaster, and a side-facing fingerprint scanner.
