Older smartphones are known to reach the end of their software support. Xiaomi updates its official EOS (End of Support) list every now and then to let users know regarding the support for their handsets.

Just a few days back, the company halted the software support for Redmi Note 9 and two more devices. Now, the firm has updated the list with four new phones.

The last batch only included budget models. But the new one also consists of a mid-ranger.

According to Xiaomiui, Xiaomi will no longer offer new OTA system updates for the following smartphones.

Redmi K30 Ultra

Poco M2 Pro

Redmi 9 Prime

Redmi 9C NFC

The first three products are currently on Android 12. But the affordable Redmi 9C continues to run on its launch software of MIUI 12 based on Android 10. It only received bug fixes and security patches throughout its lifetime.

Whereas, the Redmi K30 Ultra and the Poco M2 Pro are on the latest MIUI 14. However, their Android version is 12, which is a gen behind. Both of them were released with Android 10, however, the Poco device debuted with MIUI 11 compared to MIUI 12 on the Redmi.

Finally, the Redmi 9 Prime also boots on Android 12. But the software is MIUI 13. It was launched with Android 10-based MIUI 11.

Anyway, these handsets will continue to work normally as they have been. Users will not face any compatibility issues with most-used apps.

Design

The Realme C25 and the Redmi 9 Prime do not come with a premium design, just like all the other entry-level phones. They have a body made of polycarbonate, but the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime has a water-repellent coating which is very nice if you want to use the phone in the rain. Both the phones come with a waterdrop notch instead of those modern punch-hole displays, and both offer a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for authentication. The Redmi 9 Prime is slightly more comfortable for one-handed use and to keep in a pocket: it is thinner and lighter thanks to its smaller battery.

Display

The Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime has a superior display for one single reason: the Full HD+ resolution. With a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels, it offers a higher level of definition, the same as most of the midrange phones out there. The Realme C25, instead, comes with a below-average HD+ resolution (720p). Both are IPS panels with similar levels of brightness: the Realme C25 has slightly higher brightness, but the resolution is definitely a more important thing, so the Redmi 9 Prime wins the display comparison.

Specs & Software

If you need the most advanced hardware setup, you should choose the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime. It has a more powerful Helio G80, while the Realme C25 is powered by the Helio G70 chipset. However, the difference in performance is just marginal: the Helio G70 is not a disappointing chipset compared to the G80. The memory configurations are the same: 4 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of native storage depending on the chosen variant. The Redmi 9 Prime runs Android 10 out of the box, while the Realme C25 comes with Android 11. So, you will most likely get longer software support and a more advanced software department with the Realme C25.

Camera

The camera setup of the Realme C25 changes depending on the market. In the international market, the handset comes with a triple camera including a 48 MP main sensor which is definitely better than the 13 MP quad camera found on the Redmi 9 Prime. But the Indian version of the phone has an inferior 13 MP triple camera. If we consider the Indian version, then Redmi 9 Prime is a better camera phone because it adds an 8 MP ultrawide sensor. But if we talk about the international version, Realme C25 is better thanks to its great 48 MP main camera.

Battery

The Realme C25 has a bigger battery: with a capacity of 6000 mAh, it is able to provide stunning battery life and it even supports wireless charging. The Redmi 9 Prime lacks wireless charging support and comes with a battery capacity of 5020 mAh. Further, the higher resolution of the display makes the energy consumption higher. The Realme C25 is one of the best battery phones of the year, but Redmi 9 Prime is still great when it comes to battery life.

Price

The starting price of the Realme C25 is about €140/$168, while the Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime starts from €106/$127 in the Indian market. If we exclude the display resolution, overall, the Realme C25 is a more convincing handset. But if you care about the resolution, you’d better go for the Redmi 9 Prime which also offers a slightly better chipset, while packing a smaller but still good battery.

At the moment, Xiaomi has a lot of last-generation entry-level handsets. There are so many devices that it is very hard for non-expert people to recognize which one is the best for their actual needs. That is the reason why we decided to publish a comparison between three entry-level phones by Xiaomi. The first is the POCO C3, while the others are Redmi phones: Redmi 9i and Redmi 9 Prime. You can find all of these devices in the Indian market at very affordable prices.

Design

While the front side is pretty much the same, POCO C3, Redmi 9i and Redmi 9 Prime have different back covers. All are built with plastic materials, but they have a different look. Given that it comes with just one camera, the Redmi 9i has a cleaner back, but the camera module of the POCO C3 remains small, even though it contains three sensors. The Redmi 9 Prime looks less elegant due to its bigger camera module including a fingerprint reader, but it has better color variants: as you can see in the render, it is available in gradient colors. Last but not least, Redmi 9 Prime has a water-repellent design.

Display

Do not expect a huge quality from these devices when it comes to the displays. Just like most of the entry-level phones, POCO C3 and Redmi 9i have a below-average HD+ resolution. But the Redmi 9 Prime has a Full HD+ panel and it is actually able to provide a higher definition, as well as a high brightness. Further, it has the Gorilla Glass 3 protection making the front panel sturdier. In each case, you get IPS panels with no astonishing color reproduction, but all of them are sufficient displays.

Specs & Software

Even when it comes to the hardware, Redmi 9 Prime wins the comparison. The reason is simple: it has a better chipset. We are talking about the Helio G80 by MediaTek, definitely superior to the Helio G35 found on the POCO C3. Further, it has more internal storage: up to 128 GB in the most expensive variant. The POCO C3 takes the silver medal with its Helio G35 paired with up to 4 GB of RAM. Redmi 9i loses with its Helio G25, but it runs MIUI 12 out of the box like the POCO C3, while Redmi 9 Prime is still based on the MIUI 11 as it is an older device.

Camera

The best camera phone of the trio is again the Redmi 9 Prime which sports a 13 MP quad camera paired with an 8 MP ultrawide sensor and a pair of sensors with 5 and 2 MP resolutions for macro and depth calculation. POCO C3 lowers the macro camera to 2 MP and lacks the ultrawide sensor, but it has the same main sensor as the Redmi 9 Prime. Even the Redmi 9i has the same 13 MP sensor, but it lacks secondary cameras. Redmi 9 Prime is also the best selfie phone thanks to an 8 MP snapper.

Battery

POCO C3, Redmi 9 Prime, and Redmi 9i all feature 5000 mAh batteries, but the Redmi 9 Prime has a shorter battery life because it has a display with a higher resolution. The battery king should be Redmi 9i because it has a display with lower brightness, but it naturally depends on the usage.

Price

Redmi 9i is priced at less than Rs. 10,000 ($130) in India, Redmi 9 Prime costs Rs. 10,299 ($140) in its base variant and POCO C3 is priced at Rs. 7,499 (appr. $103). While the POCO C3 provides the highest value for money, the Redmi 9 Prime wins this comparison thanks to its better display and cameras, as well as a stronger chipset.

Design

Motorola Moto G9, Redmi 9 Prime, and Realme Narzo 10 are all built with cheap materials. They come with a polycarbonate body, but they are water-repellent and this is a very nice feature for those who want to use their phone under the rain and other circumstances in which liquids are involved. These handsets have a similar front design, while their rear sides are different. The Moto G9 has a square-shaped camera module placed in the middle, the Realme Narzo 10 has a quad-camera arrangement in the upper-left corner, and the Redmi 9 Prime has four cameras arranged vertically in the middle of the phone. Which one do you like more?

Display

Motorola Moto G9 and Realme Narzo 10 are equipped with below-average IPS panels sporting HD+ resolutions (720p). Nothing special, if you want a great display quality you should not go for these two phones. Redmi 9 Prime is actually better because it has a Full HD+ display, so it offers a higher level of definition. You get a 1080p resolution and even a high 400 nits typical brightness, as well as a slightly wider panel. In each case, you get a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and mono speakers.

Specs & Software

Redmi 9 Prime and Realme Narzo 10 are fueled by the Helio G80 mobile platform, while Motorola Moto G9 has a Snapdragon 662 chipset by Qualcomm. Despite most people will trust the Qualcomm’s chipset on board of the Moto G9 more than MediaTek, the Helio G80 actually comes with higher CPU and GPU performance. Further, you get more internal storage on the Redmi 9 Prime and Realme Narzo 10. Given that Realme Narzo 10 has to manage a display with a lower resolution, we expect it to offer slightly higher performance than Redmi 9 Prime in the most advanced scenarios. In each case, you get Android 10 out of the box, but Motorola Moto G9 has a UI close to Android stock instead of a fully customized UI.

Camera

The most advanced camera department belongs to the Realme Narzo 10 which sports a 48 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultrawide lens and two sensors with 2 MP resolutions for macros and depth. It even comes with a better 16 MP front camera. Right after, we got the Motorola Moto G9 with its 48 MP triple camera lacking an ultrawide sensor. The Redmi 9 Prime is pretty disappointing with its entry-level 13 MP main camera and you should not go for it if you need a decent camera phone.

Battery

Motorola Moto G9 should actually offer a longer battery life not only because of its HD+ resolution and its big battery but also because the Snapdragon 662 chipset is built with a better production process than Helio G80 (11 nm vs 12 nm). Note that we are only judging from the specs on the paper because we did not see the Moto G9 in action (it has been announced today). Moto G9 also comes with slightly faster charging (20W power).

Price

The Motorola Moto G9 is priced at Rs. 11,499, Redmi 9 Prime has an Rs. 9,999 price and Realme Narzo 10 costs Rs. 14,999. While Redmi 9 Prime comes with a more advanced display, the Realme Narzo 10 has better cameras and performance. The Moto G9 sits right in the middle and on the paper it is a Realme Narzo 10 with slightly inferior cameras and less storage.

Now, the device which is an offshoot of the Redmi 9 still falls under the entry-level category but in a surprise twist, the company has disclosed that the Redmi 9 Prime will come with Full HD+ display.

This was made known by Xiaomi India MD Manu Jain via a post on Twitter. The Xiaomi exec also touts the device to present with best-in-class features that no other phone offers in the price band. That is an indication that the Redmi 9 Prime will still retain the affordable pricing the Redmi 9 series is known for.

The Redmi 9 Prime is said to be a rebranded Redmi 9 global variant that was first announced in Spain back in June. So we don’t expect any difference in the spec. The model should pack a 6.53-inch display with a MediaTek Helio G80 SoC providing the firepower.
