Last week, Redmi India announced the Redmi Earbuds 2C, adding to its lineup of TWS earbuds sold in the country. The new earbuds not only look exactly like the Redmi Earbuds S that launched 5 months ago in India but also have almost identical features and the same dimensions. So if these two earbuds are “identical”, why is one cheaper than the other?

It turns out that there is a major difference between the two pairs of earbuds, one that Redmi believes justifies why the Redmi Earbuds 2C sells for ₹1,299 (~$18) while the Redmi Earbuds S is ₹1,799 (~$25).

That feature is Low Latency Gaming Mode and it is only available on the Redmi Earbuds S. When activated, the gaming mode reduces the latency to 122ms for better audio syncing when playing games. That is the only significant difference between the Redmi Earbuds 2C and the Redmi Earbuds S.

Is this feature worth the extra ₹500 (~$7) Redmi is charging for the Earbuds S? Honestly, I can’t say but a comparison of the two pairs of earbuds can help with that. Nevertheless, if you do not use earbuds when playing games on your phone or don’t even play games on your device at all, then save yourself some money and pick up the Redmi Earbuds 2C. If it is a feature you want in your earbuds, we will advise reading reviews of the Redmi Earbuds S or asking someone who owns a pair if it is worth the extra cost.

Xiaomi India has several products scheduled to launch on September 29. The product lineup includes the Mi Watch Revolve, the Mi Smart Band 5, and an automatic soap dispenser. Apparently, there are more products, this time from Redmi, and they will be launching the next day on September 30.

The tweet says the products will launch under a banner called Redmi Beat Drop. The video included in the tweet teases the launch of new TWS earbuds and a pair of new wired earphones. However, there are reports that the second product is the Redmi Sonic Wireless Earphones that launched in Nepal earlier this month.

If you are wondering what new earbuds are coming, we want to believe it is the Redmi Earbuds 2C. The product received its Bluetooth certification in July but is yet to launch. However, there is a chance it may launch under a different name.

In furtherance of its drive to have its own product ecosystem, Redmi launched the Redmi Earbuds S in India last week. The earbuds said to be a rebadged Redmi AirDots S arrived with an affordable Rs. 1,799 (~$24) price tag. As expected, the product is a massive hit as can be seen from the first-week shipment figures shared by the Chinese manufacturer.

Data released from Xiaomi Data Center shows that over 100,000 units of the earbuds have been sold since its release on May 27. The figure represents sales collated between the 7-day period of May 27th — June 2nd, 2020. Xiaomi calls it a milestone and compares it to be nearly 15% of the overall true wireless shipments in a quarter.

True Wireless earbuds are steadily gaining widespread popularity in India. Shipment of TWS earbuds in India grew by a massive 700% YoY in 2019. Although data released by IDC for Q1 2020 shows Samsung is the market leader in the quarter, with products like the Redmi Earbuds S, we expect Xiaomi to edge the Korean company this quarter.

The Redmi earbud is a cheap $24 product with all the bells and whistles of a premium, durable and reliable earbuds. It comes with splash-proof design, low-latency gaming mode, seamless switching between mono and binaural mode, etc. It connects through Bluetooth 5.0 chip, features dynamic sound drivers for enhanced bass and DSP environmental noise cancellation technology. The Earbuds S also lets users play/pause music just by tapping or double-tap to launch the voice assistant. It offers 4 hours of music playback on a single charge and the charging case offers up to 12 hours of backup. The Earbuds S is available on mi.com, Amazon.in, Mi Home and Mi Studio.

Xiaomi India officially announced the first Redmi-branded audio product in the county today. As expected, this new product called Redmi Earbuds S is a rebadged Redmi AirDots S that initially launched in China in the month of April.

The newly launched Redmi Earbuds S in India features Bluetooth 5.0 to connect with devices. Unlike the OG Redmi AirDots (review), both the earbuds connect to devices separately. For the unaware, the previous model used a master-slave connection. That means the right bud connects to the device, while the left bud connects to the right earbud.

The TWS also features a low-latency (122ms) gaming mode which can be enabled or disabled by triple pressing the physical button present on either bud. These buttons can be also used for options like play/pause music, wake up voice assistants, and attend/hang-up calls.

The buds are also IPX4 certified for water/sweat resistance. As for battery life, the brand claims 4 hours for buds and 12 hours for the charging case. That means a total of 16 hours of playback time.

Further, the charging case of the new Redmi TWS features a MicroUSB port and takes 1.5 hours to charge fully as per the company.

Last but not least, the Redmi Earbuds S is priced at ₹1,799 ($24) and will be available in only black color at Mi online store, Amazon India, Mi Homes, Mi Studios, and partner retail outlets.
