The survey showed that most fans prefer LED display-toting smartphones as against an earlier preference for an LCD screen as of last year. However, there are apparently still fans who would love to have a flagship phone with an LCD screen.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-350649" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4.jpg?x44794" alt="Redmi K30S Ultra" width="770" height="433" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4-696x391.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-4-747x420.jpg 747w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<p>Recently, a Weibo user had inquired (<a href="https://news.mydrivers.com/1/754/754868.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">via</a>) from Redmi&#8217;s product Wang Teng Thomas if Xiaomi is considering producing an LCD display-packing flagship phone powered by the Snapdragon 870 chipset. Of course, there were rumors recently that Xiaomi was going to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/08/xiaomi-new-sd870-smartphones/">launch three smartphones this year with Snapdragon 870 chip</a>. But in response to the question, Wang Teng Thomas disclosed that the Chinese tech giant wasn&#8217;t planning to launch an LCD flagship this year. He even recommended the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k30s/">Redmi K30S Ultra</a> to Mi fans who seek an LCD flagship phone. The K30S Ultra was released last year in China but is still on sale despite the arrival of the K40 Ultra.</p>
<p>The Xiaomi exec had earlier revealed that Xiaomi won&#8217;t be launching flagship models using LCD screens going forward. At present, OLED screens have become the standard configuration of flagship mobile phones. This trend has even shifted to the mid-range segments as more mid-range models are launched presently with OLED screens. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-6.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-350650" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-6.jpg?x44794" alt="Redmi K30S Ultra" width="534" height="356" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-6.jpg 534w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/Redmi-K30S-Ultra-6-300x200.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 534px) 100vw, 534px" /></a></p>
<p>For instance, this year alone, Xiaomi has launched the Mi 11 flagship series with OLED screens and even the mid-range Mi 11 Lite equally utilizes an OLED panel. Further, the  Redmi K40 series, Redmi 10X series and a couple of other models also use OLED screens.</p>

Weibing’s statement comes in the wake of the unveiling of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k40-gaming/">Redmi K40 Gaming Edition</a> in China.</p>

<p>The Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Edition is Xiaomi’s first gaming smartphone outside of the BlackShark brand. The company expects it to catch the appeal of its customers due to its impressive gaming features and affordability. Liu Weibing disclosed that Redmi decided to enter the gaming smartphone market due to the lack of popularity of gaming smartphones.</p>
<p>Redmi&#8217;s gaming phone is the most affordable model around as gaming phones are mostly expensive. Weibing attributed the premium pricing to the higher cost of production of premium gaming smartphones.  Getting an appropriate processor, decent screen, memory, and other aspects in the production and marketing spectrum combine to make the cost of the phones to be generally exorbitant.</p>
<p>The K40 Game Enhanced version sells for around 2000 yuan (~$310), making it by far the cheapest gaming smartphone among the popular brands by a mile. The phone was sold out within a minute during its first sale today in China. It is expected that the acceptance given the K40 Gaming edition in China would be replicated in other countries where a rollout of the model or its variants will take place in the coming weeks. There are speculations that it will launch as <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/29/poco-f3-gt-could-be-heading-to-india-as-rebadged-redmi-k40-game-enhanced-edition/">POCO F3 GT</a> in India.</p>

<p>The Redmi K40 features an impressive overall form factor and has a relatively lower weight than its competitors like the ASUS <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/04/09/legion-duel-2-vs-asus-rog-phone-5-vs-black-shark-4-pro-specs-comparison/">ROG Phone 5</a> and the Nubia <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/06/17/nubia-red-magic-5g-lands-in-the-us-for-579/">Red Magic 5</a>. It is, therefore, lighter and thinner than its present competitors and is a fair reflection of the research and innovative effort put in by Xiaomi in the design and production of the gadget. The company is targeting sales of up to 1.7 million units of the K40 Gaming Enhanced Edition in China alone and the early results indicate that the outlook remains bright for the model.</p>
<p>The Redmi General Manager also noted that the popularization of gaming smartphones could be a difficult task, but the company is ready to plunge into the task because of the opportunities it sees, going forward.</p>

The Redmi flagship is expected to debut later this month and ahead of the launch, Lu Weibing has again come out with a new detail about the Redmi K40 series. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-366332" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40.jpg?x44794" alt="redmi k40" width="1080" height="936" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40.jpg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-300x260.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-768x666.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-1024x887.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-534x462.jpg 534w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-696x603.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-1068x926.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-485x420.jpg 485w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></a></p>
<p>The Redmi K40 series is expected to pack a flagship Snapdragon 888 series processor and according to the screenshot shared by Weibing, the device will come with durable battery life. Battery durability is a relative term but in this case, the device is shown to still have 64% of the power after 10.5 hours of continuous use. The MIUI system forecasts the remaining 64% can still be used for 25 hours and four minutes.</p>
<p>However, we can&#8217;t judge definitively if the battery will have such extended usage outside light usage or standby mode. The post didn&#8217;t indicate if the battery usage was recorded during heavy usage.</p>
<p>Further, the screenshot also shows that the Redmi K40 will come with a screen resolution of 2400&#215;1080 pixels. Although the battery capacity is unknown at this time, we expect it to be more than 4000mAh.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-366333" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2.jpg?x44794" alt="" width="922" height="2048" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2.jpg 922w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2-135x300.jpg 135w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2-768x1706.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2-461x1024.jpg 461w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2-696x1546.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/redmi-k40-2-189x420.jpg 189w" sizes="(max-width: 922px) 100vw, 922px" /></a></p>
<p>For reference, Redmi K30 4G and 5G were released in December 2019 while the Redmi K30 Pro/Zoom version was released in March last year, priced from 2999 yuan (~$462) to 3999 yuan (~$616). The brand later added the Redmi K30 Speed Edition, Redmi K30i, Redmi K30 Extreme Commemorative Edition, and Redmi K30S Extreme Commemorative Edition.</p>
<p>Lu Weibing had earlier hinted that the device will be launched next month and will be priced from 2999 yuan(~$462).</p>

<p>Weibing also made some mention of the future of fast charging and LCD-based in-display fingerprint sensors.</p>
<p>Fast-rising Chinese phone maker, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> has released various competitive devices this year, but smaller phones are not among the devices released so far. Weibing had previously said that the firm wants to build a small phone but that battery capacity will be sacrificed because the technology is yet to achieve longer-lasting batteries for such small phones.</p>
<p>In an interview session with <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/redmi-gm-lu-weibing-charging-small-phones-1184537/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Android Authority</a>, Weibing acknowledged that indeed there is a growing demand for smaller phones. In his comments, he stated that extended battery life is a fundamental requirement for all Redmi smartphones, stressing that the challenge is developing a physically smaller battery with the same capacity as the larger one requires a tremendous breakthrough in battery technology.</p>

<p>In 2017, the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-4x">Redmi 4X</a> was released with a 4,100mAh battery while the phone was just 5 inches long. However, a greater challenge awaits the firm in this age 5G, with key components and multiple cameras taking up vital space, while 5G and high refresh rate screens require larger batteries too.</p>
<p>A bigger battery usually requires <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/09/the-oppo-find-x3-pros-65w-fast-charging-will-be-20-faster-than-the-previous-generation/">faster-charging</a> speeds to maintain standard fast charging times. Xiaomi indeed launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/03/xiaomi-120w-charger-gets-3c-certification-100w-super-charge-turbo-phone-launch-imminent/">120W charging</a> in 2020. But is there a limit to charging speeds? Improved battery technology holds the key, in the words of the Redmi Executive.<br />
Inevitably, with recent tech advancements, low-end phones will soon have fast charging capabilities.</p>
<p>Although Weibing was silent on the kind of charging speeds Xiaomi is expecting for sub-$300 phones in 2021, the company has already revealed several low-budget phones with 30W or higher speeds in 2020, including the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-note-9">Redmi Note 9 Pro</a> series. So it should be expected that fast charging technology may be more prevalent by 2021.</p>
<p>Of course, super-fast charging was not the only technology Weibing has touted in 2020. He also demonstrated in-display fingerprint sensors using LCD screens earlier this year. However, the implementation of technology seems to be stalled at the moment.</p>

The company has in recent times been touted to have got the K30S in the works. Redmi’s General Manager has now posted a teaser on Weibo which confirms the company is indeed working on the Redmi K30S.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-349420" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s.jpg?x44794" alt="Redmi K30S" width="690" height="397" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-300x173.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></a></p>
<p>The Redmi GM posted a shot of a man sitting in a studio with the Redmi logo in a white background with a caption &#8220;Who is this?&#8221;. The President of Xiaomi’s Mobile division Zeng Xuezhong responded to the post with a comment that suggested the phone will pack a large camera sensor.</p>
<p>An earlier rumour tips the K30S to launch on October 27 while the phone will go on sale on November 1, according to a second rumour. If this is true, the phone is no doubt targeted at the double 11 shopping festival. However, Xiaomi is yet to officially confirm these dates.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-349430" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-2.png?x44794" alt="" width="599" height="533" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-2.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-2-300x267.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/redmi-k30s-2-472x420.png 472w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></a> According to popular tipster Digital Chat Station, the K30S price will be lower than expected. He also hinted that it will be lower than the K30 Ultra&#8217;s.</p>
<p>While the K30 Ultra packs a Dimensity 1000+ chipset, the Redmi K30S is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 865 chipset. In fact, a leak shows the phone is a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/15/redmi-k30s-is-a-rebranded-xiaomi-mi-10t-another-evidence-appears/">rebranded Mi 10T</a>. This has been confirmed by a listing on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/16/redmi-k30s-full-specifications-and-images-appear-on-tenaa/">TENAA</a> where the phone was recently certified.</p>
<p>Since the K30 Ultra starts at 2,000 yuan (~$300) for the 6GB+128 GB model, selling the K30S cheaper than that would be pretty interesting. But we doubt if the model will make it outside China since the Mi 10T which it mirrors is already available in the global market.</p>
