The smartphone was launched with MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie out of the box. And, just like most Android phones, the handset was expected to receive three years of support. However, several users online reveal that the phone was plagued with major issues since the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/miui-12">MIUI 12 update</a>, and following it, the phone may not receive any further updates in the future.</p>
<p>MIUI 12 is indeed the third software skin for the Redmi K20 phones. But, the recent MIUI 12 update for the global and Indian markets has plagued the Redmi K20 phones with multiple issues. <img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-438086 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs.png?x10805" alt="Redmi K20 bugs" width="640" height="480" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs.png 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs-300x225.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/Redmi-K20-bugs-560x420.png 560w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></p>
<p>Reportedly, K20 users are complaining about the lags on app launches, floating windows getting stuck, FPS drop issues while gaming, keyboard overlapping issues, notification grouping issues, and more. The list goes on, but Xiaomi hasn&#8217;t rationally responded, well, it did, but it was the support bot, putting up scripted messages telling users to get in touch on direct messages.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/manukumarjain?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@manukumarjain</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/XiaomiIndia?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@XiaomiIndia</a> I am using redmi K20Pro. After MIUI 12 update, the device was full of bugs that affect UX.We have reported 100s of bugs through TG channel and S&amp;F app.But one of the moderator confirmed that no updates further. This is not fair for a 30k phone</p>
<p>&mdash; Man of Mysteries (@Manof_Mysteries) <a href="https://twitter.com/Manof_Mysteries/status/1481620759793799168?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 13, 2022</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Netizens report that it&#8217;s been around six months since the issues have been reported. Only now, a moderator from the Xiaomi community responded and said that there won&#8217;t be any further updates to the phone, which is quite unfortunate. But, Xiaomi is yet to officially respond to this, so let&#8217;s wait for that.</p>
<p>In China, the Redmi K20 phones have continued to receive updates. Having said that, it seems like, the company is prioritizing the home market more. We expect, Xiaomi to officially confirm the update status for the K20 phones in India and the global markets, and fix all the possible bugs as soon as possible.</p>

The device, irrespective of regions, came with MIUI 10 based on <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-9-pie">Android 9 Pie</a> out of the box. Now, it has finally started getting the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-11">Android 11</a> update.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-256210 alignright" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Redmi-K20-featured.png?x10805" alt="Redmi K20 Pro featured" width="720" height="472" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Redmi-K20-featured.png 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Redmi-K20-featured-300x197.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Redmi-K20-featured-696x456.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Redmi-K20-featured-641x420.png 641w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>The <a href="http://www.gizmochina.product/xiaomi-redmi-k20">Redmi K20</a> is <a href="https://t.me/MIUIUpdatesTracker/12820">getting</a> a MIUI update with firmware version V12.1.1.0.RFJCNXM in China. This build upgrades the device&#8217;s OS to the latest Android 11. If you recall, the device got the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/23/redmi-k20-gets-android-10-update-in-china/">first big update</a>, i.e, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10">Android 10</a>, reasonably quickly after the official announcement.</p>
<p>Anyway, the update is 2.6GB in size and also comes with the February 2021 security patch. Do note that this is the Chinese build so this particular update is compatible only with phones selling in China (codename: davinci). In case you don&#8217;t know, the Indian version of this device is codenamed &#8216;davinciin&#8217;.</p>
<p>Hence, users will have to be patient till <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> extends the update to other regions like India and Europe which I don&#8217;t think is that far now. Also, if you had noticed, the MIUI version is still MIUI 12 so another major UI update for the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI-12.5">MIUI 12.5 version</a> should take a while to reach the device.</p>
<p>That said, the MIUI 12.5 update could be the last major update for the Redmi K20 since it has already got two major MIUI (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/09/redmi-k20-and-redmi-7-get-miui-11-stable-update-in-china/">MIUI 11</a>, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/01/miui-12-global-stable-update-rolling-out-to-mi-9t-series-mi-9-and-redmi-k20-series/">MIUI 12</a>) and two major Android upgrades(Android 10 &amp; 11) now.</p>
<p>Either way, the update is in the &#8216;stable beta&#8217; stage meaning only a few users will get it initially. After ensuring that the update doesn&#8217;t have any major bugs, Xiaomi will likely push the update to everyone in a few days.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s also worth noting that the &#8216;Pro&#8217; sibling, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k20-pro">Redmi K20 Pro</a>, or its European version <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/mi-9t-pro">Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro</a> hasn&#8217;t gotten the Android 11 update yet.</p>

These builds allow users to experience new features before they are released to the general public. Currently, the beta program is limited to China as Xiaomi </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/16/xiaomi-to-end-miui-global-beta-program-in-july/"><span style="font-weight: 400">shut down the global beta program</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> last year.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Just like new features, the latest Android version is first introduced in this channel. It has been more than a month since </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/09/android-11-stable-update-arrives-with-chat-bubbles-screen-recording-and-more/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Google officially released Android 11</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">. But already a plethora of Xiaomi smartphones like Mi 10, Mi 10 Ultra, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/07/30/redmi-k30-pro-android-11-beta-2-comes-with-miui-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Redmi K30 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/27/xiaomi-mi-cc9-pro-miui-12-weekly-beta-builds-are-now-based-on-android-11/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Mi CC9 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/09/redmi-k30-5g-mi-10-youth-edition-miui-12-weekly-builds-android-11/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Redmi K30 5G, and Mi 10 Youth Edition</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> have been receiving weekly MIUI beta builds based on Android 11.</span></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-298220 size-full aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="800" height="445" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g.jpg 800w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g-300x167.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g-768x427.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g-696x387.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/REdmi-K30-4g-755x420.jpg 755w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Now, Redmi K20 and Redmi K30 4G also join this list. These two smartphones received their first Android 11-based </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI-12/"><span style="font-weight: 400">MIUI 12</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> weekly beta build today. Their upcoming builds will be also based on the latest version of Android.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Normally, it means that these two handsets (including POCO X2 which is a rebranded Redmi K30 4G) should be receiving </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Android-11/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Android 11</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> stable update very soon. However, it is not the case this year as </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> has become slower in rolling out the Android 11 update compared to Anroid 10.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The flagship Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro are yet to receive any stable build. Same goes for Redmi K30 Pro whose predecessor Redmi K20 Pro was one of the first phones to receive Android 10 stable update in 2019.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Hece, even though the above mentioned devices are continuously receiving MIUI 12 weekly beta builds based on Android 11, we cannot guarantee if they will receive the stable update sooner.</span></p>
