Redmi took to Weibo today to confirm that the sales of the Redmi K30 series have surpassed 3 million units in China. It took around seven months for the company to achieve this milestone.

Redmi unveiled the Redmi K30 4G and Redmi K30 5G in December 2019. The Redmi K30 4G went on sale in December while the company’s first 5G-ready phone. i.e. the Redmi K30 5G debuted in January with an irresistible price tag of 1,999 Yuan (~$285). It is the world’s first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform and the Sony IMX686 64-megapixel camera.

In March, Redmi revealed that it sold 1 million units of the Redmi K30 models and then announced the Redmi K30 Pro 5G and Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom Edition by the end of the same month. Both models are the first Snapdragon 865 powered flagship phones from the brand. They are currently priced between 2,699 Yuan (~$385) and 4,299 Yuan (~$612).

The Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition smartphone was introduced in May. It debuted as the first Snapdragon 768G powered handset. By the end of the same month came the Redmi K30i 5G as the cheapest 5G phone with a current starting price of 1,499 Yuan (~$213).

Rumors are rife that the Redmi K40 series will go official by the end of this year. The Redmi K40 5G may debut with Snapdragon 775G whereas the Snapdragon 875 powered Redmi K40 Pro 5G may launch by the first quarter of next year. As far as the K30 series, the Chinese firm is not done with it yet. Recent reports revealed that it is planning to launch the Dimensity 1000+ SoC powered Redmi K30 Ultra phone soon.

It is speculated that the Redmi K30 Ultra 5G features a 120Hz refresh rate display. It could be sporting a notch-less AMOLED display with an in-screen fingerprint sensor. It could be braced with a Sony IMX686 64-megapixel camera on its rear. The other rumored features of the device include a pop-up selfie snapper, and a 4,500mAh battery with 33W fast charging technology.

Redmi K30 Pro is the latest flagship killer from the house of Redmi. This phone is the direct successor to the last year’s immensely popular Redmi K20 Pro. Though it is only the second generation flagship smartphone by the brand, it packs everything one needs in a premium device without shelling out more penny. Now, it is expected to get even better with third-party software development as the company officially releases its source code on GitHub.

Xiaomi is well-known for being developer-friendly since the beginning. This applies to Redmi as well because it still comes under Xiaomi even though it was termed independent in late 2018 before the launch of Redmi Note 7 series.

Due to this, Xiaomi smartphone users have been enjoying using a variety of custom ROMs based on new iterations of Android whenever releases. In fact, most enthusiast smartphone users buy Xiaomi products for this reason apart from bang for buck hardware they offer.

The Redmi K30 Pro runs Xiaomi’s MIUI Android skin, which although is feature-rich in its own way, is still not a cup of tea for everyone, even in its 11th generation. But thankfully, as Xiaomi has released kernel source code for the device, we can expect developers to come up with custom recoveries, custom ROMs, mods, and what not as an alternative to MIUI 11 that the device comes with.

A few days back, MIUI camera app from the then-latest MIUI 11 beta build clearly suggested the Redmi K30 Pro will launch under POCO brand in India. But yesterday the brand’s general manager C Manmohan denied the device being launching as Poco F2, however, he did not mean the product to not launch at all. Maybe, the device will be rebranded as something else for the country like Poco X2 Pro.

Recently, Xiaomi‘s now independent Poco brand launched the popular POCO X2 and it was basically a rebranded Redmi K30 that was earlier launched in China. This may have fuelled speculations that the Redmi K30 Pro 5G which was equally unveiled in China recently will make its debut in India as Poco F2. An XDA Developers member equally found some code which suggests the Redmi K30 Pro may launch as a POCO branded phone, possibly the much-anticipated POCO F2.

That speculation or expectation has just been squashed by POCO GM C Manmohan. The GM held an interactive Zoom meeting today with fans where he shared some few information. The most important is the disclosure that the POCO F2 is different from the flagship Redmi K30 Pro. He also disclosed that the F2 is in the works and for those expecting a POCO F1 kind of surprise, he spilt some disappointing words. The Poco GM announced that the F2 will definitely not be priced around Rs 20,000 (~$265).

Recall that the POCO F1 had a RS 20,000 price tag when it was launched in 2018. This is despite packing a Snapdragon 845 chipset, a Liquid Cooling system and more. This was a crazy price tag which definitely was superb value for money offering. But then, Xiaomi couldn’t have claimed any reasonable profit from the product as the price wasn’t competitive at all. He even advised those with a budget of around Rs 20,000 (~$265) to go for the Poco X2 instead.

While Manmohan may have put paid to speculation of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G launching as Poco F2, we may still see the Redmi K30 Pro launch in India under the POCO brand but not as F2.

Furthermore, the Poco GM has also confirmed that the company is working on TWS earbuds. No word yet on the features or launch.

The Redmi K30 Pro is the latest flagship in town and practically the cheapest Snapdragon 865 phone at the moment. But the price is not the only thing people consider when purchasing a phone. Redmi‘s major competitor is Realme whose Realme X50 Pro 5G is also a flagship phone and one that buyers will also consider.

This post pits both devices against each other and will help you decide which one to get.

Design

Design is subjective but that doesn’t mean we cannot have opinions. Some love the pop-up selfie camera of the Redmi K30 Pro while others do not mind the pill-shaped punch hole of the Realme X50 Pro. I do not lean towards one as both are cool. However, I wish Realme used another design for the rear, so the phone stands out from its other devices. This is their top smartphone and the rear looks similar to that of its cheapest phones.

Display

The two phones have AMOLED FHD+ displays and they are high-quality E3 panels with HDR10+ certification. Redmi says their 6.67-inch screen has a peak brightness of 1200 nits while Realme’s 6.44-inch screen has a peak brightness of 1000+.

The Redmi K30 Pro’s screen misses out on the high-refresh-rate trend which means that buttery-smooth scrolling 90Hz and 120HZ displays have is missing. The Realme X50 Pro 5G, on the other hand, has a 90Hz refresh rate which is a plus for it.

Performance

Both phones are powered by the same Snapdragon 865 processor so performance should be the same, right? Not really. The base model of the Redmi K30 Pro (6GB RAM + 128GB) has LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.0 storage while the 8GB RAM variants have LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. All the Realme X50 Pro variants have LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage.

Other than the base model of the Redmi, the phone should be faster than the Realme X50 Pro 5G with respect to app load times and general usage thanks to its faster storage.

Cameras

The Redmi K30 Pro and Realme X50 Pro both have four rear cameras but of different configurations. Below are the specs of the two phones:

Reviews have revealed the Realme X50 Pro 5G isn’t the best camera phone out there. It does take decent photos but we doubt it will be able to measure up to the Sony IMX686 of the Redmi K30 Pro. Nevertheless, we won’t give a final verdict until there is a review of the Redmi flagship or a camera comparison of both phones.

Battery Capacity and Fast Charging

The Realme X50 Pro 5G has a 4200mAh battery capacity with support for 65W SuperDart Fast Charging while the Redmi K30 Pro 5G has a 4700mAh battery capacity with support for 33W fast charging.

When it comes to recharging in the shortest time possible, the Realme X50 Pro 5G is clearly the winner here as it charges from empty to full in 46 minutes according to reviews (the advertised figure is 35 minutes) while the Redmi K30 Pro 5G takes 63 minutes (advertised) to charge to full.

However, the Redmi should offer better battery life not only because it has a bigger capacity but also because it doesn’t have a high-refresh-rate display (although bigger) that consumes battery, unlike the Realme X50 Pro.

This category is somewhat a draw for both devices as you can charge one device faster while the other lasts longer on a single charge.

Other Features

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G has an audio jack, an IR blaster, and Hi-Res Audio. While the Realme X50 Pro doesn’t have an audio jack, it does have stereo speakers which the Redmi K30 Pro 5G doesn’t have. The Realme flagship also has Hi-Res Audio and Dolby Atmos.

While both phones have their own fast-charging technology, they also support Power Delivery while the Redmi K30 Pro 5G also has support for Quick Charge 4+.

Redmi K30 Pro is priced as follows:

Conclusion

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G wins hands-down based on price only. So if you are trying to spend the least amount possible on a flagship, the Redmi K30 Pro 5G is the device to get. And it does offer a lot, from support for 8K video recording to OIS in two of its cameras to a big battery. There is also an audio jack that you won’t find on a lot of flagship phones this year.

The Realme X50 Pro 5G is also an awesome choice. It has a 90Hz display, really fast charging, and stereo speakers which are pretty important features that justify the extra price you pay if you decide to choose it over the Redmi K30 Pro.

Xiaomi’s Redmi officially unveiled its first flagship models for the year – the Redmi K30 Pro 5G and Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom Edition. The K30 Pro comes as Redmi’ first 5G phone and it starts at 2999 yuan ($424) for the 6GB+128GB model.

You’ll agree that the K30 Pro price is pretty decent for a Snapdragon 865 flagship bringing 5G support and other powerful features. The design and pop-up camera are also amazing. Now, popular analyst and industry insider Pan Juitang has commented on the K30 Pro’s price. The analyst stated emphatically that no other cost-effective 5G flagship that is more powerful and cheaper than the K30 Pro will be released this year. The analyst also happens to be a Xiaomi analyst so he may as well be promoting the product.

However, considering the studded specs lineup, the flagship device is super affordable for 2999 yuan ($424). for this amount, you get a quad-camera packing model with features such as wide-angle lens, depth sensor, telephoto lens. The phone equally packs a 6.67-inch display with FullHD+ resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels. It equally crams a 4700mAh battery with support for 33W flash charge.

Redmi has officially launched two new smartphones in the K-series lineup in China, the Redmi K30 Pro 5G and the K30 Pro 5G Zoom. This is the first time a special Zoom edition makes it to the lineup, highlighting the importance of a strong camera setup on a 2020 smartphone.

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G follows the same philosophy as its predecessor. So the phone comes with top of the line specifications in a beautiful form factor. At the same time, it cuts down on premium features like wireless charging to maintain an affordable price tag.

Redmi K30 Pro 5G Design

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G builds on the design of its predecessor. Unlike most 5G smartphones launched in 2020, the new K30 series model retains a pop-up camera similar to the K20 Pro. Redmi’s GM, Lu Weibing explained that the combination of pop-up cameras and 5G would be rare in 2020 owing to space constraints but the company managed to bring it to reality with several adjustments including a stacked motherboard design.

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G features a curved back with a quad-camera setup in a OnePlus 7T-like round camera housing. This is a fresh change from the pill-shaped vertical camera arrangement of the earlier Redmi models. The pop-up front camera ensures that you get a full view display experience and up to 92.7% screen to body ratio. The pop-up camera is also faster than its predecessor and pops up and down in just 0.58 seconds. The company claims that this further ensures its safety during falls.

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G comes with Snapdragon 865 flagship processor inside clocked at 2.84GHz. This is paired with up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage and 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. There’s a standard variant with 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM too.

The phone features a 6.67-inch Samsung E3 Super AMOLED display with 1200 nits peak brightness, 50000000: 1 ultra contrast ratio, and HDR10+ support. The Redmi K30 Pro 5G comes with a quad-camera setup at the back. The setup consists of a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor with OIS, a 13MP Ultra wide-angle 123-degree FoV lens, a 5MP telephoto macro lens, and a 2MP shooter for depth information. The phone also supports 8K video shooting and super slo-mo videos. Thanks to the advanced 5MP telephoto/ macro lens, Redmi claims that the phone can capture exceptional macro shots.

The Redmi K30 Pro zoom features the same setup but has an upgraded 8MP telephoto lens capable of capturing 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. The Zoom edition also features 4-axis OIS that’s absent on the regular Pro model.

As for the front camera, you get a pop-up 20MP shooter with support for 120 fps slo-mo videos and time-lapse shooting.

Redmi finally unveiled the Redmi K30 Pro flagship smartphone today at an online-only launch event in China. Also, the pop-up camera now retracts faster at a speed of 14.2mm per second, which is 27% faster than its predecessor’s 11.5mm per second speed.

As far as internals are concerned, the brand-new K30 Pro crams in 3885 components with up to 61 components per square centimetre. This is possible because the brand is using a stacked motherboard design commonly known as ‘sandwich motherboard design’. This enabled them to place small motherboard over the large primary motherboard and thus managed to fit in all the necessary components for 5G connectivity. Also, this design aided the company to also include a 4,700 mAh battery, which is larger than the K20 Pro’s 4,000 mAh cell.

Having said that, the Redmi K30 Pro is one of the few 5G smartphones with a pop-up camera to offer a full-screen experience without compromising on design and battery.

Redmi will officially take the wraps off the Redmi K30 Pro 5G tomorrow in China. The Xiaomi‘s nurtured brand has in the past few weeks thrilled us with several teasers that practically reveal all there is to know about the device. Well, except for the retail price and availability.

Ahead of the launch, the real-life photos of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G white variant have leaked on Weibo (via Twitter). The pictures are in synchronisation with the leaked renders that have formed part of Xiaomi’s official teasers.

The Redmi K30 Pro display seems to have a curved edge design on all sides and should be covered by a Gorilla Glass protection. We can’t make out any notch on the display since the phone uses a pop-up camera design.

At the rear, the Redmi K30 Pro packs a Quad-camera setup housed in a round module. The four sensors also seem to be located in an X-shaped module giving it a resemblance to the letter X. The LED flash is situated just under the circular module. Earlier teasers show the device will have a 64MP Sony IMX686 main sensor. It will come with several features for vivid camera and video shooting including 8K video recording support.

The phone is also expected to have support for 33W flash charge. There will also be a 3435mm² VC liquid-cooled heat sink which is officially claimed to bring “extremely cool” heat dissipation performance.

Redmi, the year-old subbrand of Xiaomi will be announcing its next flagship smartphone Redmi K30 Pro on March 24 in China. Ever since the brand unveiled the launch date, it has been teasing the specs of the handset for a few days now. Continuing the trend, the brand’s General Manager Lu Weibing today unfolded that the upcoming Redmi K30 Pro will cram in up to 61 components per square centimeter in its chassis.

A couple of days back, Mr. Lu explained the difficulties involved in implementing pop-up camera design in 5G smartphones. He said that 5G components require more space and thus manufacturers have been avoiding pop-up cameras lately in 5G devices with Redmi K30 Pro being an exception. He also added that 5G phones require a bigger battery and better thermal performance, which unfortunately cannot be achieved by dividing the motherboard into two parts – a common design in phones with pop-up cameras.

Thus, Redmi K30 Pro opted for a different approach that compelled the brand to adopt the now-common sandwich (stacked) motherboard design present in flagship smartphones like its parent company’s Mi 10 Pro. As per Mr. Lu, the device will cram in up to 61 components per square centimeter by stacking up one motherboard over another. He also said that the phone will include 3885 components, which is 268% more than that of last year’s Redmi K20 Pro. 

He also confirmed that the pop-up camera will pop in / out within 0.58 seconds, thanks to the new stepper motor with a speed of 14.2mm per second, up from 11.5mm per second of its predecessor. That means, it will be 27% faster than the last generation and thus will retract quicker than before during accidental falls.

The recently released official posters that showcase the rear side of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G reveals the presence of a round-shaped camera module with four cameras inside it. There is a “64MP” text imprinted at the center of the camera housing which indicates that it could be borrowing the Sony IMX686 64-megapixel lens that first debuted on the Redmi K30 series. Today, Redmi officially confirmed some of the key features of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G’ rear-facing cameras.

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G will be the first Redmi phone to arrive with optical image stabilization (OIS) capabilities. A reliable Chinese tipster had claimed few days back that the camera setup of the K30 Pro will be equipped with dual OIS.

Redmi has today confirmed that the Redmi K30 Pro 5G will have an OIS assisted primary lens of 64-megapixel. The 3x optical zoom supporting telephoto sensor of the K30 Pro 5G will be powered with OIS. However, the company did not confirm on the megapixel count of the telephoto lens. The presence of dual OIS will make it possible for K30 Pro users to capture stable long-distance shots and record jerk-free videos. Apart from the main 64-megapixel lens and telephoto shooter, the K30 Pro’s camera setup may include an ultrawide sensor and a macro lens.

The iQOO 3 5G phone with 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage has a price tag of 3,598 Yuan (~$507) whereas the Realme X50 Pro 5G with 8 GB of RAM and same amount of storage costs 3,599 Yuan (~$507). Currently, these are the cheapest SD865 powered phones in China. Xiaomi Product Director Wang Teng Thomas had earlier hinted that the Redmi K30 Pro 5G would be priced between 3,000 Yuan (~$423) and 3,599 Yuan (~$507). A screenshot of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G’s listing on Suning is now doing rounds on Weibo. It shows that the phone has a very affordable price tag of 3,299 Yuan (~$465).

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G is now up for reservations on the official Xiaomi store on Suning. The 3,299 Yuan pricing has been taken down. The configuration of the K30 Pro model that carried the said wasn’t mentioned. Rumors have it that the base model of the K30 Pro will be equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB storage.

The listing on Suning carries some of the official renders of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G. It also mentions some of the already known features of the smartphone. The listing states that the phone is powered by Snapdragon 865 mobile platform and LPDDR5 RAM.

A tech blogger ran a poll asking whether the Redmi K30 Pro 5G with 3,299 Yuan will be worth buying. Interestingly, Lu Weibing who is the General Manager of Redmi brand has liked the post which suggests that the phone may indeed carry the said pricing. It remains to be seen whether the base model or the second variant of the phone will be priced at 3,299 Yuan.
