Redmi has expanded its popular K series of smartphones with the new K70 Ultra (Check out our review). This is the latest high-end device from the lineup and sits right alongside the Redmi K70 Pro. But what’s the difference between the two? Which one is worth buying? Here’s a detailed breakdown.

The Redmi K70 Ultra is on sale for 429 US Dollars and the K70 Pro has a 439 US Dollar price tag on Giztop.

Redmi K70 Ultra vs Redmi K70 Pro: Higher Resolution or Faster Refresh Rate

The display on the Redmi K70 Ultra and K70 Pro are quite similar in many ways. Both of these phones sport a 6.67-inch OLED display that offers 4000 nits of peak brightness, 68 billion colors, and Dolby Vision support. However, the Redmi K70 Pro features a higher 2K resolution on its screen while the K70 Ultra has a 1.5K resolution panel.

This means that you can consume media content at a higher resolution. But the K70 Ultra swings back with a faster 144Hz refresh rate over the 120Hz on the Pro variant. In both regards, the trade offs aren’t notable enough to make a big difference. The 144Hz refresh rate isn’t that much higher, just like the 2K resolution. Although, I’d still prefer the higher resolution as a 6.67-inch display is still pretty tall.

MediaTek or Qualcomm

The Redmi K70 Pro is one of Xiaomi’s most powerful smartphones since it packs Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This is the same chipset that powers most ultra high end Android devices. On the other hand, the K70 Ultra packs MediaTek’s flagship chipset, the Dimensity 9300+. These two chips are the fastest processors in the current market and can handle intensive tasks like gaming fairly easily. So you won’t go wrong with either.

Design

From a distance, it is hard to tell the difference between the duo. Only with closer inspection can the slight variations be noticed. They are identical from the front and have a similar camera module on the rear. However, the modules are circular on the K70 Pro and rounded squares on the K70 Ultra. The latter has an aluminum frame and a glass back. This metallic frame can also be found on the Pro model. But a major feature missing on the K70 Pro is the IP rating. It has no official rating, while the Ultra variant offers IP68 for water and dust resistance (up to 2m for 30 min).

Camera

Another area with a notable variance is the camera department. The Redmi K70 Pro has a versatile triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto telephoto shooter (2x Optical Zoom), and a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. Redmi’s K70 Ultra also features three cameras on the rear but skips the telephoto sensor in favor of a macro shooter. You still get a 50-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. The K70 Ultra and K70 Pro house a 20-megapixel and 16-megapixel selfie shooters respectively.

Pricing

As of right now, both phones are listed on Giztop with nearly identical price tags. The Redmi K70 Ultra is on sale for 429 US Dollars and the K70 Pro has a 439 US Dollar price tag. For this price, the K70 Pro is a slightly better deal. The camera, processors, design, and display are quite competitive. But the camera options are much better when compared to the K70 Ultra.

I saw the Xiaomi launch event last week, which was hosted by Lei Jun. Obviously, the K70 Ultra is not the top performer. However, I believe many people are more interested in this model than the other two foldable smartphones. Of course, we will look at those two foldable phones later. For the time being, let us look at this high-performance machine that costs less than $360.

In the future, the K70 Ultra’s cameras may be upgraded and marketed globally as the Xiaomi 14T Pro. If you want to get your hands on this phone early or do not want to spend more money on the camera, go to Geekwills.com. The K70 Ultra is selling well.

Unboxing

The phone still comes with the most basic components, like the SIM card pin and instructions. The phone case is still made from frosted silicone. The charger is 120W and still features a USB-A connector. The cable is also USB A to C, which makes sense.

The charging protocol is as shown in the picture and is unchanged compared to previous Redmi phones.

Design

The design of the K70 Ultra still carries the gene of the K70 series, with the four cameras placed in the upper left corner. The lenses have gone from round to round rectangles. The power button has a non-slip finish. And the weight has slightly increased, presumably due to the larger battery capacity.

Other than that, it’s pretty much unchanged, with the same metal frame and glass back. There are no other features missing, but of course, the drawbacks are the same. Oh, I almost forgot, the K70 Ultra is probably the only phone in this price range that has IP68 dust and water resistance. That’s why it’s called Ultra, I guess.

Display

The K70 Ultra’s screen has an OLED panel from TCL. There are downgrades and upgrades compared to the K70 Pro. The Ultra’s resolution has been downgraded from 1440p to 1200p, the K60 Ultra did the same thing last year so I wasn’t too surprised.

The upgrades are in the brightness, which can be adjusted manually to 700nit and up to 1600nit in sunlight. The conditions for switching dimming modes have changed, with a switch to high-frequency PWM dimming only when it’s below 60nit. Moreover, the lower bezel has been further narrowed and is almost as narrow as many curved-screen phones. From a distance, you might think it’s a very expensive phone.

Some of you may complain that it doesn’t support LTPO, so check out the Realme GT6 China Edition that we reviewed a few days ago, that phone might be better for you.

Performance & Gaming

One of the key reasons for the K70 Ultra’s low price is that MediaTek’s CPUs are less expensive than Qualcomm’s. The Dimensity 9300+ is not the most expensive option, but it delivers some of the best performance in the phone’s SOC. There is little doubt that the score is somewhat higher than the eight Gen 3 phones. I have to say, even though I knew this CPU was fantastic, the K70 Ultra still surprised me.

I haven’t seen a frame rate graph that straight in a long time. And the best part is that it’s still very low in temperature and power consumption. I don’t know if it’s Redmi that’s awesome or MediaTek that’s insane, but anyway, it’s the best gaming experience I’ve had with a phone lately. And it’s also cheaper. So there is no reason for gamers not to pick this one.

It’s worth noting that the K70 Ultra also comes with the display chip D1 this time around, which boosts the resolution, and the latency of frame interpolation. I also didn’t find any images being torn down due to frame insertion, so turning on these features does improve the gaming experience significantly. Of course, that depends on whether the game you’re playing supports these features.

For example, Zenless Zero does not have the option of interpolation and resolution enhancement. However, with the excellent performance of Dimensity 9300+, it can provide an excellent gaming experience even without these features. As long as it conquers these two games from HoYoverse, other games will be a piece of cake.

Camera

The three cameras on the K70 Ultra are a 50 MP main camera, an 8 MP ultra-wide camera, and a 2 MP macro camera. Compared to other phones in the same price range, there isn’t much difference in image quality.

Most of the photographs captured with the main camera are outstanding. The dynamic range and saturation are perfectly balanced, and the clarity is excellent. Personally, I believe that the K70 Ultra’s main camera is on par with Xiaomi’s sub-flagship. Compared to other mid-range phones, the 8 MP ultra-wide camera performs poorly at night. Especially the image quality around the edges. I assumed I had not wiped the lens clean.

The 2 MP macro camera is mostly useless. The resolution is so low, that the photos cropped with the main camera are better than those taken with the macro camera. The main camera also has a slight purple-fringing issue. The video stabilization is also average, and only the main camera can record 4K video.

The rest is nothing to complain about; after all, the processor accounts for the majority of the budget.

Battery & Charging

I expected the K70 Ultra’s 5500mAh battery to not surprise us much, given that the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro has 6100mAh. However, the battery life is actually rather good, comparable to the GT6 China edition, and somewhat exceeds our expectations. It also has 120W wired charging, which takes roughly half an hour to fully charge the battery. Overall, I would rate the K70 Ultra an eight out of 10 for its charging and battery life performance.

Verdict

According to the leak, the K70 Ultra will reportedly pack four in-house chips alongside the MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor. This includes the Surge P2 for fast charging, the G1 for power management, the T1 for signal enhancement, and the D1 for independent display processing. 

Xiaomi has been using its in-house chips in Redmi phones for a few years now, but the K70 Ultra seems to be the most packed with in-house technology among them.

According to the image shared by the company, the phone will have a 1.7mm ultra-narrow bezel on top and two sides, which looks slimmer as compared to the predecessor. CMF Phone 1

CMF, the sub-brand of CMF, has scheduled an event for July 8. The company will unveil its inaugural smartphone at this conference called CMF Phone 1.

This device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC. It will be the first handset in India to feature this chip.

The Tecno Spark 20 Pro 5G is anticipated to launch in India in July. The product is the only 5G-enabled smartphone in the Spark 20 series.

It is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6080 chipset and sports a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz display (LCD). It comes with a 108MP main camera, an 8MP selfie camera, and dual stereo speakers.

We have examined the code lines of both apps in detail and confirm that the apps belong to the smartphones specified.

We have spotted that a special device codenamed “ruyi” has been added to the Xiaomi Clock app. The “ruyi” codename is known to belong to the MIX Flip. Compared to the previous Xiaomi Clock app, the new app has many lines of code related to the MIX Flip. We make this comparison by examining versions 15.26.0 and 15.30.0 of the app. The clock app for MIX Flip has version number 15.30.0. These lines of code were written by Xiaomi to make the app run smoothly on the foldable device.

Also, a Xiaomi AI Translate app for the Redmi K70 Ultra has been leaked. This app is used for instant subtitle translations and has special features for flagship devices. The Xiaomi AI Translate app not only shows us the Redmi K70 Ultra, but also some tweaks for the MIX Flip and MIX FOLD 4.

Redmi K70 Ultra to offer Dimensity 9300 Plus SoC and Light Hunter 800 main sensor

According to the tipster, the phone will be powered by the Dimensity 9300 Plus chipset. For context, the Redmi K70 Pro launched in November last year equips the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The ultra model will reportedly also include an independent X7 display chip, which was also adopted by the Redmi K60 Ultra. last month, another Weibo tipster Smart Pikachu also mentioned the use of an independent display chip. The chipsets will be powered by a 5000 mAh battery and the phone will support 120W fast charging. According to previous rumors, the phone may offer 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage.

On the outside, there will be a 1.5K 144Hz OLED panel, that will be surrounded by a metal middle frame. The phone will have a glass back.

Speaking of cameras, the rear setup will include a 50MP Light Hunter 800 (OVX8000) main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and an additional 2MP sensor (possibly a depth sensor). There could also likely be a collaboration with Leica for better image processing. The main sensor ( Light Hunter 800) is measured at 1/ 1.55″ and offers a native dynamic range of 13.2EV.

On the front, it is said to have a 1.5K resolution display. The leak also suggests an independent dual-core chip for the display. The latter could be similar to the K60 Ultra’s X7 display chip that helps the device achieve a native frame rate of 144 fps in compatible games.

Moreover, the latest leak also corroborates with earlier ones from another Weibo source, Digital Chat Station. That is, the phone will be powered by MediaTek’s latest Dimensity 9300+ chipset. As of now, the recently released Vivo X100s Pro is the sole device equipped with this chip.

The tipster also hints at a unique “deep joint design architecture,” likely meaning a customized version of the Dimensity 9300+ tailored specifically for the Redmi K70 Ultra.

In terms of design, the phone will have a sturdy metal middle frame complemented by a textured glass back panel. Additionally, the K70 Ultra is expected to offer dust and water resistance for protection against accidental damage or environmental factors.

MediaTek has finally confirmed that it will unveil the Dimensity 9300 Plus through the MediaTek Dimensity Developer Conference (MDDC) event on May 7 in China. As the moniker suggests, it will succeed the Dimensity 9300 SoC, which was announced in November last year. The first phone featuring the new chip is expected to debut soon after the official announcement.

Dimensity 9300 Plus specifications

MediaTek hasn’t revealed anything significant about the Dimensity 9300 Plus’ specifications. However, reports suggest that it will be an overlocked version of the existing Dimensity 9300. It is said to include 1 x Cortex-X4 core working at 3.4GHz, 3 x Cortex-X4 cores operating at 2.85GHz, and 4 x Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.0GHz. The SoC is also said to include the Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU.

The other details for eh Dimensity 9300 Plus are not known. However, it is more or less likely to be the same as the D9300 chip. Speculations are rife that the Vivo X100s and x100s Pro which are expected to launch next month in China will be the first phones to feature the Dimensity 9300 Plus chip.

The Dimensity 9300 Plus-powered Vivo X100s was recently seen on AnTuTu with an impressive score of 2,305,267 points. On Geekbench, the device was recently seen with a single-core score of 1966 and a multi-core score of 10,244 points.

The Redmi K70 Ultra, which is expected to debut in June or July this year, is also expected to feature the Dimensity 9300 Plus. A tweaked version of the same device with the Xiaomi 14T Pro branding is expected to be released later this year in the global market.

But surprise, surprise, Xiaomi is already working on the 14T series, and there’s a twist – it seems like the 14T Pro could be a rebranded version of the Redmi K70 Ultra.

Let’s talk about the leaked specs for the Xiaomi 14T Pro. Xiaomi 13T series didn’t quite match up to the Xiaomi 12T series in certain areas. The interesting part – the Xiaomi 14T Pro has made an appearance on the IMEI database with model numbers “2407FPN8EG” for the global version and “2407FPN8ER” for the Japanese version. This means the smartphone is set to launch in various regions, including Japan. There’s also a different model number for the Chinese version, “2407FRK8EC” which is associated with the Redmi K70 Ultra. While there might be a few differences in features, both models are likely to be quite similar.

Xiaomi 14T Pro has the codename “rothko” and interestingly, so does the Redmi K70 Ultra. Xiaomi often gives its Redmi K series codenames inspired by painters and this time, it’s Mark Rothko, a famous US painter known for his “color field painting” or “late pictorial abstraction.”

While we don’t know all the details about the Xiaomi 14T Pro yet, what we do know is that it will boast a powerful MediaTek processor, possibly the Dimensity 9300 SOC. Expect some improvements in the camera and other areas. But various leaks and rumors have already revealed a bunch of its specifications ahead of the official release. Now, the latest rumor has even shared details regarding a large battery pack for the upcoming smartphone.

Redmi K70 Ultra Battery Specs

The Chinese tech giant is set to launch the Redmi K70 Ultra and the Note 13 Turbo in the first half of this year. Details regarding the K70 Ultra have been surfacing online over the last couple of weeks and the latest information revealed its battery specifications. In a new Weibo post, tipster Smart Pikachu shared the battery specifications of the former.

The online post claimed that the Redmi K70 Ultra will be powered by a battery pack that is larger than 5,000mAh in capacity. When a Weibo user asked if this meant a 5,500mAh battery pack, the tipster simply replied with a thumbs up emoji. In other words, the massive 5,500mAh capacity is likely the battery that powers the new smartphone. The leak adds that a new Redmi tablet is set to launch in China soon as well.

Based on what we know so far, the Redmi K70 Ultra is expected to sport an OLED display with 1.5K resolution and up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness. Under the hood, the handset is equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300 SoC that is paired with up to 24GB of LPDDR5T RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. Redmi is reportedly working on the Redmi K70 Ultra flagship phone for the Chinese market. At the end of the previous year, tipster Digital Chat Station shared the key specifications of the device without explicitly naming it. Today too, the leaker reportedly shed some more details about the K70 Ultra.

In the above screenshot, reliable leaker Digital Chat Station talks about an upcoming phone without mentioning its name. As per Chinese media and people discussing in the comments section of the Weibo post, it seems that the leaker could be talking about the Redmi K70 Ultra.

As per the leak, the device will be equipped with an 8T LTPO OLED panel with super-slim bezels around it. The screen will produce a 1.5K resolution, and its peak brightness may touch 5,000 nits mark. Under the hood, the device will feature the Dimensity 9300 chipset. Previous leaks have claimed that the upcoming Redmi phone with the D9300 chip onboard will be called the Redmi K70 Ultra when it arrives in the Chinese market.

According to the leaker, the device will be equipped with 24 GB of LPDDR5T RAM, representing the latest advancement in RAM technology. Currently, the only smartphones equipped with LPDDR5T are the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro, but they max out at 16 GB of RAM in their highest configurations. Also, the LPDDRT variants of the X100 series are only available in the Chinese market. The leak suggests that the Redmi K70 Ultra might be pioneering as the first smartphone to offer 24 GB of LPDDR5T RAM.

The leak also suggests that the K70 Ultra will offer 1 TB of UFS 4.0 storage. As per other reports, the device may continue to offer an IP68-rated chassis like the K60 Ultra. In addition, it is also expected to feature an aluminium frame for durability.

Xiaomi is reportedly planning on launching a new smartphone from its Redmi K70 lineup. The company recently unveiled the Redmi K70, K70 Pro, and K70e in China, and it appears that a Redmi K70 Ultra model is also in the works. So here are all the details.

Redmi K70 Ultra Specs

The latest information arrives from known tipster Digital Chat Station who shared the information on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging website). The tipster claims that the upcoming K70 Ultra model will be equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 SoC. For those unaware, this is a flagship grade processor, which hints that the Ultra is a high end device. DCS added that this model will also come with improvements over its sibling K70 and K70 Pro models.

While this isn’t confirmed, the smartphone could offer improved photography or faster charging rates. Furthermore, it was also revealed that the smartphone may sport an 8T OLED display that is surrounded by thin bezels on all four sides. Although, the leakster was unclear about the resolution, which could be either a 1.5K or 2K display. With the Dimensity 9300, Digital Chat Station believes that the Chinese tech giant will be able to offer a great cost to performance ratio.

If this is true then we can expect the Redmi K70 Ultra to be the direct successor to the K60 Ultra. To recall, the Redmi K60 Ultra was a Chinese exclusive model but a slightly refreshed and rebranded Xiaomi 13T Pro was announced in its stead in the global market. So this may also hint at a Xiaomi 14T Pro as well. Keep in mind that this still just speculation at the moment so take this report with a pinch of salt.
