Although Xiaomi sells expensive smartphones, the company’s cheaper handsets are popular worldwide. In fact, in India. Yesterday, ahead of the Mi 11 global launch event, Xiaomi India announced a brag-worthy achievement on its various social media handles.

The Chinese smartphone maker revealed that it has shipped over 200 million units of Redmi Note series phones globally to date. This data is sourced from the firm’s own ‘Xiaomi Data Center’.

It is not surprising to learn that the global shipments of the Redmi Note series have exceeded 200 million units since its inception. This series has been the heart of Xiaomi’s product lineup ever since it was introduced.

Redmi Notes have been unbeatable in their price segment for a very long time. However, that began to change when realme entered the scene. But being an established product lineup, they are still as popular as they were before.

That said, Xiaomi is known for announcing its milestones ahead of releasing new devices. Hence, we think the Redmi Note 10 series is just around the corner. Since September, Xiaomi has been releasing MIUI 10 Global Stable update for is smartphones. The POCO F1 was recently treated with MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM at the beginning of this month. Now the same update has been made available to Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X and Redmi Note 6 Pro smartphones.

The Redmi Note 6 Pro has released in few markets such as Thailand and Indonesia. It is yet to arrive in major markets like China and India, but the Chinese manufacturer has now made the Android 8.1 Oreo based MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM available for it. Here is the link to download the update. The ROM can be installed manually by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Update > Choose Update and then select the download file to install MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM.

The Chinese manufacturer has also released MIUI 10 Global Stable for Redmi Note 4/4X phone. The new update can be flashed after downloading it from this link. Owners of the Redmi Note 4/4X should be aware of the fact that the update is based on Android Nougat.

The Redmi Note 4 was launched with MIUI 8 skinned Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The Redmi 5 Plus, Redmi 6 pro and Redmi Y2 and the older Redmi Note 4 are all powered by Snapdragon 625 chipset. Except for Redmi Note 4, the other three phones have been provided with Android 8.0 Oreo based MIUI 10 Global Stable ROM.

The Redmi Note 4 user in India are now receiving the MIUI 10 Global Stable version through OTA update. The Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Note 4X users are yet to receive the MIUI 10 Global Stable OTA update. The MIUI 10update brings various improvements such as gesture-based navigations, natural sound for notifications, revamped Recents menu and a refreshed UI.

Xiaomi had introduced the MIUI 9 proprietary Android skin in July last year. The company began the roll out of the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM from November. Xiaomi’s Global VP and Managing Director for India confirmed on Twitter earlier this week on the list of Xiaomi phones that are eligible to receive the MIUI 9 update. The eligible devise list reveals that even four-year old phones such as Mi 3 and Redmi 1S will be treated with the MIUI 9 update.

Some of the aforementioned smartphones have already received the MIUI 9. Newer handsets such as the Redmi Note 4, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Mi MIX 2, Mi Max 2 are receiving the Android Nougat flavored version of MIUI 9 update. However, some of the older phones such as Redmi Note 3 are receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow flavored MIUI 9 update which lacks some of the features like split-screen mode.

The MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM should automatically arrive as OTA update on the above listed phones. Alternatively, users can manually check for the arrival of the MIUI 9 update by navigating to Settings > About Phone > System Update. It is recommended for users to perform the data backup for their device before installing the MIUI 9 Global Stable ROM.

Xiaomi’s Redmi series have been getting price cuts in recent weeks. In India, the Redmi Note 4 (64GB model) has just got a Rs. 1000 price slash bringing the price down to Rs. 10,999 (~$173).

Reports say this is the second time that Xiaomi is reducing the price of the Redmi Note 4. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as a new model is likely to launch soon.

When the phone launched last year, it was priced at Rs. 12,999 (~$204). It also launched in a 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM variant that has been phased out now, and a 3GB RAM + 32GB model that sells for Rs. 9,999 (~$157).

The Redmi Note 4 helped Xiaomi claim the top spot in India. In 45 days after its release, it had sold 1 million units while by the sixth month it had sold 5 million units. Xiaomi even released a limited edition Lake Blue variant as part of its CSR. Proceeds from the sales went into the cleaning of lakes in the country.

A latest tweet by Xiaomi Product PR, Clinton Jeff indicates that India may receive a new device next month. It is speculated that the Redmi 5 Plus may debut as Redmi Note 5 in the country.

The Redmi Note 4 that had launched in January last year is one of the bestselling phones from the company. Hence, Xiaomi fans in India are eagerly waiting for the arrival of Redmi Note 5. However, the company is unusually silent at the start of this year. The tweet from Jeff is just an indication that a new device possibly arriving in February. He could be hinting the launch of Redmi 5 Plus in India or the global unveiling of Xiaomi Mi 7 at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 event that will be held at the end of next month.

Xiaomi has already launched some devices with different names in India. For instance, the Redmi Note 5A and Note 5A Prime have respectively arrived in India as Redmi Y1 Lite and Redmi Y1. Xiaomi is gradually expanding to other countries. This year alone, it added Russia, Vietnam, and Mexico to the list of countries where you can officially buy its phones. Today, Southeast Asian country, Thailand, is the latest addition.

Xiaomi will partner with VST ECS, a local Thai company that will handle product distribution and after- sales services. Xiaomi products will be available both online and offline. One of its online partners is Lazada, an e-commerce company owned by the Alibaba Group.

Fans of Xiaomi in Thailand will be able to buy the Mi 6, the Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4X, and Redmi 4A phones only for now.

The 6GB RAM +64GB ROM black variant  of the Mi 6 will go on sale tomorrow on Lazada for 13,790 Baht (~$414). The 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM version which comes in blue will be available on September 1.

The Redmi Note 4  variant available for sale is the 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM and the 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM variants. They will be available in gold, black, and dark gray on Lazada tomorrow, 25th of August for 6,790 Baht (~$204) and 5,790 Baht (~$174) respectively.

Today, Kevin Wang has again claimed that the sales of Xiaomi phones in this month has been even more impressive. He has revised statement on second quarter sales. Previously, he had stated that Xiaomi may sell more than 20 million units in Q2 and his today’s Weibo post states that Xiaomi is expected to sell 23 million units in this quarter. Considering the fact that Xiaomi recorded a sale of only 13 million units in Q1, the company seems to have rebounded very well in this quarter. Rumors have it that Xiaomi has several smartphones lined up to release in this year. The Redmi Pro 2 is speculated as the first Snapdragon 660 chipset driven phone from the company. On May 20, the Chinese firm generated a massive revenue of Rs. 5 crore (~$775K) within 12 hours through the offline sales of various Xiaomi devices in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

The offline sale was conducted at the Xiaomi’s first Mi Home store in India located at Phoenix City, Bengaluru. Over 10,000 Mi fans from 10 different states arrived at the Mi Store to be a part of this milestone achievement of the company.

Xiaomi could generate such a huge revenue through the sales of various Xiaomi devices such as Redmi 4, Redmi 4A, Redmi Note 4, Mi VR Play, Mi Air Purifier 2, Mi Router 3C and Mi Band 2. No other smartphone company has managed to achieve such a milestone in the country. The Chinese firm revealed that the Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A accounted for major sales among other Xiaomi products.

With the launch of these offline stores, Xiaomi aims to increase the offline sales of its devices. An additional zone will be available in select Mi Home stores for experiencing more Xiaomi devices.

After becoming part of the “Make in India” program of the Indian Government, the Chinese firm launched its second manufacturing unit in the country at Andhra Pradesh. The factory that has been launched in partnership with Foxconn will make it possible for the company to manufacture 95 percent of smartphones that will be sold in the country. The company claims that the new plant is capable of producing one phone per second.

A recent survey carried out by IDC revealed that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was the most shipped smartphone in the first quarter of this year. With a market share of 29.3, Xiaomi now stands as the number one smartphone brand in the online market in India.

The Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4X are the two Xiaomi phones that will be landing first on the Mexican soil. In Mexico, these smartphones will be available for buying both offline and online.

According to Xiaomi’s director of product management and marketing, Donovan Sung, “Mexico is a really important market for us and acts as our starting point to reach the rest of Latin America.” In 2016, there were 44.2 million smartphone users in the country. The number of smartphones users in Mexico is increasing at a steady pace because of the competition between the smartphone brands as well as lower pricing of phones.

To make the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4X available in Mexico, Xiaomi has partnered with several online and offline retailers of Latin America. The offline retailing partners include Coppel, Best Buy and Sam’s Club and the online retailers are Amazon, Best Buy, Soriana, Elektra and Walmart.

Through Mi Community, Xiaomi can get in touch with its loyal fans and receive feedback and comments to improve its products and services. Well-known industry expert Kevin Wang has claimed that Xiaomi is expected to achieve highly impressive sales record in India in 2017.

The Chinese tech company had confirmed in January that it crossed the $1 billion revenue mark in just first two years of operating in India. The present popularity of the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 4A smartphones suggests that it will be achieving huge sales result this year. Wang has predicted that the sales of Xiaomi smartphones is going to exceed 18 million units as the company seems to be selling 1.5 million units per month.

He has added that the Indian market is going through a shift from feature phones to smartphones. The demand for smartphones are increasing in India and Xiaomi seems to have timed the release of its budget friendly smartphones quite well in the country.

On March 20, Xiaomi announced its second manufacturing plant in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, India. The first manufacturing unit was setup at the same location in August 2015. The new plant that is owned and operated by Xiaomi’s partner firm Foxconn will be only manufacturing Xiaomi smartphones. With this new plant, 95 percent of the phones sold in India would be manufactured in the country. The combined production of both manufacturing unit will let the company produce 1 phone per second in India.

Xiaomi has already started teasing the launch of Redmi 4 and Redmi Prime that be arriving as successor phones for Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime. The arrival of these phones are expected to generate more sales for the company. The Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 3 smartphones from last year are contributing considerably to the online smartphone sales with 50 percent market share among the leading 10 smartphones in India.

Xiaomi has opened a second factory in India, its second most important market. The new factory which is located in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh was built in conjunction with Foxconn, another Chinese OEM giant.

The announcement was made during the launch of the Redmi 4A in India yesterday. Xiaomi says the new plant produces one phone per second but refused to reveal its annual production target. While that might sound impressive, it still might not be enough. Xiaomi phones are usually sold out immediately when it announces its sales.

Vice-President Manu Kumar Jain who also doubles as head of Xiaomi India says the company is working on solving supply issues. He said plans were already underway for production expansion since last year when the first plant was already working at full capacity but demand still outweighed supply. He cited the example of the Redmi Note 4 which sold a million units in just 45 days but which could have been more if they had more stock.

In an interview with IndianExpress.com, Mr Jain said “The key for us was to start hitting one phone per second kind and we thought we will announce it only when we hit that number. Now we are hitting that consistently”.

Xiaomi says it has employed over 5000 workers, 90% of which are women at both plants which are managed by Foxconn. Xiaomi’s Indian portfolio includes the Redmi 3S (2 variants), Redmi Note 4 (3 variants), and the Mi 5. Xiaomi says except the Mi 5 which is imported from its home country, the others are made in India.

Part of Xiaomi’s plans for India is to focus on offline sales. Mr. Jain says the company has partnered with brick and mortar stores like Big C Mobiles, Poorvika Mobiles, Sangeetha Mobiles to sell the Redmi Note 4 in over 700 locations in South India. He adds that residents in cities in the North (Delhi Chandigarh and Jaipur) will be able to purchase a Xiaomi phone from about 1500 mom and pop stores by the end of the week.

Last year, Xiaomi was overtaken by a large margin by Huawei, OPPO and Vivo in its home country. Part of the reason associated to the low sales were said to stem from putting its focus majorly on online sales and not working on offline sales. It appears Xiaomi has already learnt from its mistakes.

Xiaomi has continued its tweaking of the Redmi Note 4 in order to re-jig the device for better sales. This time around, the company has announced a new Redmi Note 4 version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a successor to the highly successful Redmi Note 3 which courted global attention and recorded monumental sales figures earning it the record as one f the most successful Redmi sereis smartphones. Unfortunately, the Redmi Note 4 has been unable to make its mark since its release last year. This first prompted Xiaomi to look outside China with the launch of a Snapdragon 625-powered version of the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi also recently announced the Redmi Note 4X, an upgraded and version of the Redmi Note 4.

According to the listing, the new Redmi Note 4 comes with a 4GB + 64GB combo and adopts a price tag of 1,399 Yuan ($202). Before now, there are two versions of the Note 4 having 3GB + 32GB priced at 999 Yuan ($144) and 3GB + 64GB priced at 1199 Yuan ($173) respectively. Other specifications are the same with the Chinese version which is powered by a deca-core Helio X20 chip clocked at 2.1GHz.

The international variant of the Redmi Note 4 sports a Snapdragon 625 processor unlike the Chinese variant which has a Mediatek Helio X20 chip. According to an internal source, the Chinese market might be getting a Snapdragon version too.

The source says Xiaomi is planning to release a new Redmi Note 4 for the Chinese market that will feature a Snapdragon 625 SoC. That just sounds like the international variant will be available in China, right? Actually there is more to it than just the chip. Apart from the new processor, the phone will also be getting a new antenna design and will use a new manufacturing process which is less expensive.

The cheaper manufacturing process means the new Redmi Note 4 may be priced less, falling between the range of ¥900 – ¥1300 (~$131 – $189).

The news of a newer model isn’t much of a surprise. If you remember, when the Redmi Note 3 was released back in November of 2015, it launched with a Helio X10 chip. Fast forward to February 2016, Xiaomi released a Snapdragon 650 variant and later stopped production of the Mediatek model. Chances are that the Helio X20 Redmi Note 4 will face the same fate. The Snapdragon variant of the Redmi Note 3 not only came with a better processor but also featured SD card support and an upgraded camera.

A new listing of Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 on GFXBench shows the smartphone running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS. Hence, it is likely that the phablet is likely to get the software update soon.

The Redmi Note 3 with 32 GB storage and 3 GB of RAM has appeared on GFXBench. The operating system of the handset is mentioned as Android 7.1.1. This indicates that the Chinese manufacturer is testing the smartphone with the latest Android version. There are no details available on the version of MIUI present on the device.

However, since some of the specs of the smartphone appears to be mentioned incorrectly, the news about Nougat update for Redmi Note 3 should be taken with a pinch of a salt. The GFXBench listing shows that the smartphone features a 5.7-inch full HD display, but it actually features a 5.5-inch screen. The processing speed of hexa-core processor is shown as 2.0 GHz, but in reality its processing speed is 1.8 GHz.

Xiaomi had released the Marshmallow update customized with MIUI 8 skin for Redmi Note 3 users in December 2016. Hence, it is unlikely to release the newer software so soon to Redmi Note 3 users. Moreover, Xiaomi has also released Redmi Note 4 to succeed Redmi Note 3. If the company released Android 7.1.1 Nougat for Redmi Note 3, it is likely that its successor would be also treated with the latest flavor of Android.

In the past, the Xiaomi Mi 4c was spotted on a benchmarking site Android 7.0 Nougat. Some of the other Xiaomi smartphones that are rumored to receive Nougat update soon include Xiaomi Mi 4c, 4i 4s, Mi Max, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi 5, Mi 5s and Mi Mix. However, the Chinese company has not revealed any information on when will it be releasing Nougat update to its device.

Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 4 in India last week. It went on sale yesterday and in just 10 minutes it had sold 250,000 units on Flipkart and the company’s official site Mi.com.

According to Xiaomi, the flash sale of the Redmi Note 4 is said to be the biggest-ever online only smartphone launch in the country. In 2016, an IDC report said Xiaomi also set a record with the Redmi Note 3 as the most shipped smartphone sold online in a given quarter.

The Redmi Note 4 launched in India is different from the one released in China last year as this model features a Snapdragon 625 processor and not a Helio X20 chip. It also varies in the memory configuration. There is a 2GB RAM+32GB ROM variant alongside a 3GB+32GB model and a 4GB+64GB model.

The Redmi Note 4 has a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a 13MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual LED flash, and PDAF. Up front is a 5MP camera with the same aperture as the rear camera. There is a 4100mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner on the rear, and it comes bundled with MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Xiaomi has launched a new version of the Redmi Note 4 in India, infusing a new Snapdragon 625 chip into the smartphone. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was first unveiled in China in August last year sporting a MediaTek Helio X20 chipset and really the device didn’t fare very well when compared to the Redmi Note 3 which it took over the baton from.

The launch is coming in India, a market where Xiaomi had fared pretty well last year, especially with its Redmi series. The launch in India could also indicate that the smartphone will go global, hitting other continents and countries in the near future. The main selling point of the Redmi Note 4 is definitely the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset onboard which many would prefer over the Helio X20 on the India version. The new chipset also brings into the mix a more efficient battery management than the Redmi Note 3.

Basically, the Redmi Note 4 adopts the same design as the Helio X20-powered version, sporting an aluminum unibody and a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with 2.5D curved glass on top. The device comes in three memory variants, a base variant with 2GB RAM + 32GB storage, another with 3GB RAM + 32GB of storage and a top model with 4GB RAM + 64GB of internal storage. There is also a large 4,100mAh battery crammed inside the smartphone.

The camera remains the same 13MP rear sensor with phase detection autofocus (PDAF) and LED flash, as well as a 5MP selfie shotter up front. The SD 625-powered Redmi Note 4 version also retains the dual SIM capability, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, 4G VoLTE and runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is worthy of note that MIUI-8 based on Android Nougat is currently in beta testing and should be available on the Redmi Note 4 whenever the stable ROM is available.

Pricing & Availability

Coming to the price, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 with 2GB + 32GB will sell for 9,999 Rupees ($146), while the 3GB + 32GB goes for 10,999 Rupees ($161), and the 4GB RAM + 64GB for 12,999 Rupees ($190). The Redmi Note 4 comes in gold, dark gray, and black color variants and will be available from January 23 at 12 noon via Mi.com and Flipkart. Also note that a blue variant was recently added to the lineup in China but it is not clear if that one will be available on this global edition.

The Redmi 4 was released in November as the successor to the Redmi 3 and its many variants. It does sport a new design similar to its sibling the Redmi Note 4 and still maintains the low price the series is known for.

However,  the Redmi 4 has that annoying black border that surrounds its screen, a feature common to low-priced Chinese phones. Seems Xiaomi has heard the complaints from users and has decided to fix the issue albeit to a certain degree and quietly too.

It has been noticed that new batches of the Redmi 4 sold at the company’s official mall since January 11 now have considerably thinner black border lines. It isn’t gone completely but it is thinner and if you look at the image below, you should notice the difference quite clearly. You will also notice that the phone looks shorter, so I guess the production mould must have been changed completely.

It’s worth adding that the new version looks a lot like the Redmi 4a, which already came with thin bezels. So, we will have to wait and see if the new version ends up looking like the one shown on the right.

The price still remains the same and you still get a 5-inch HD display, a Snapdragon 430 processor, 2GB/3GB of RAM, and 16GB/32GB of storage. There is a 13MP rear camera with PDAF and a 5MP front facing camera for selfies. And even though the Redmi 4 has a smaller display, it still has the same 4100mAh battery capacity as the bigger Redmi Note 4.

So if you are out to purchase the Redmi 4, you might want to ask the seller if he/she has the new batch with the thinner border or probably just delay the purchase for a couple of weeks till they have the new batch.

So you have got some spare money left from the holidays or maybe you lost your phone when you were on vacation, bottom line is you need a new phone but don’t want to buy something pricey. So you narrow down your options to three phones: the Nokia 6, the Moto G4 Plus, and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. Which one of the phones deserve your money?

Display

All three phones have a 5.5-inch 1080p display but if you care about screen protection, that is where the differences come in.

The Nokia 6 and Moto G4 Plus boasts Corning Gorilla Glass 3 but Xiaomi is not known to use any form of display protection for its Redmi phones, so you might want to steer clear from it.

Just because there is no screen protection doesn’t mean the Redmi Note 4 is a total loser with respect to displays. It actually offers a higher screen-to-body ratio than the other two devices and this is as a result of its shorter frame.

Software

This is another round where Xiaomi loses. The Nokia 6 comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and while the Moto G4 Plus comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow from the factory, there is already a Nougat update available.

Xiaomi on the other hand is still working on MIUI 9 which is said to be based on Android Nougat. It will be available later this year but there is no assurance if the android version of the Redmi Note 4 will change after the update. The reason is because Xiaomi is fond of releasing updates to its MIUI ROM but not updating the android version for some devices even though they get the new ROM update. So it is quite possible to see a Xiaomi phone running MIUI 8 while still on Android Kitkat.

RAM and ROM

The Moto G4 Plus and Redmi Note 4 are available in multiple RAM and storage variants. For the sake of this article we will keep the variants limited to 4GB + 64GB for the Moto G4 Plus; 3GB +32GB and 3GB + 64GB for the Redmi Note 4. The Nokia 6 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The good thing about all three devices is that they all support microSD cards of up to 256GB.

Processor

This is a deciding factor for a lot of people when it comes to purchasing phones. The Snapdragon 430 chip in the Nokia 6 is more or less its most popular spec as most people are displeased with Nokia’s SoC choice. It is clocked at 1.4GHz and consists of eight Cortex-A53 cores. The Moto G4 Plus doesn’t fare much better. It sports a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor (4 x 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4 x 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53) which was released back in 2015.

Xiaomi has gone all out with the chip in the Redmi Note 4. There is a Helio X20 deca-core processor clocked at 2.1GHz (2 x Cortex A-72 & 8 x Cortex-A53). So while all three processors will handle your regular apps and tasks easily, only the Helio X20 will be able to handle high performance tasks without any sweat due to its Cortex-A72 cores.

The GPU is also pretty important. The Nokia 6 has an Adreno 505 GPU and the Moto G4 Plus has an Adreno 405 GPU. Inside the  Redmi Note 4 is a Mali T880-MP4.

Camera

The Nokia 6 sports a 16MP shooter with a  f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual-LED flash. Up front is an 8MP camera for selfies.

The Moto G4 Plus has a 16MP camera with the same f/2.0 aperture. In addition to Phase Detection Auto Focus, the G4 Plus also has laser autofocus. The front camera is a 5MP shooter.

The Redmi Note 4 has a f/2.0 13MP rear camera with PDAF and dual LED flash and the front facing camera is a 5MP sensor.

Battery and Extra Features

The Moto G4 Plus and the Nokia 6 both feature 3000mAh batteries with support for fast charging but their batteries are small compared to that of the Redmi Note 4 which is an impressive 4100mAh capacity. Not the biggest in a mid-range phone but large enough to give you a few extra hours of screen-on-time. It also supports fast charging.

All three phones have fingerprint scanners but the Xiaomi is the only one with its mounted on the rear. They all have audio jacks but the Moto G4 Plus lacks any form of audio enhancement. The Nokia 6 comes with Dolby Atmos while the Xiaomi comes with 24-bit hi-res audio support.

Price

Nokia’s first phone is heavily priced at about $250, a price generally agreed to be on the high side. The Moto G4 Plus actually costs more; priced at $269 for the 4GB+64GB version and $194.99 for the 2GB+16GB variant. The price for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 isn’t surprising as the company is known for its aggressive pricing. The 3GB + 32GB variant will set you back $150 while the 3GB + 64GB variant is priced at around $170.

Conclusion

The price alone should make the Xiaomi your choice but if you are bent on having the latest software version, you will have to consider either the Nokia 6 or the Moto G4 Plus. Just remember that you will be shelling out more money not only for the latest software but for a likely better camera, more RAM, and a smaller battery.

Xiaomi is expected to soon unleash the Redmi Note 4X that will arrive as an upgraded version of Redmi Note 4.

The Redmi Note 4 was made official in August 2016. The Redmi Note 4X is not expected to come with overhaul improvements, but with some new features that are not available on Redmi Note 4.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Specifications

According to a Chinese leakster, the Redmi Note 4X will be the first phone to feature Pegasus screen. The Note 4 has a rear-facing fingerprint sensor. However, the biometric security feature will come embedded under the Home button.

It will be the first smartphone to make use of Pegasus display panel. Like Redmi Note 4, the Note 4X will continue to sport a full HD display that offers a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. As far as the design is concerned, it will be sporting a metal unibody design. Here are some of the leaked photos of Redmi Note 4X:

The Snapdragon 653 chipset that features quad cores of Cortex A53 working at 1.9 GHz and quad cores of Cortex A73 running at 1.44 GHz along with Adreno 510 will be powering the Redmi Note 4X.

The Note 4 comes in two storage models. Its 16 GB and 64 GB storage variants respectively have 2 GB and 4 GB of RAM. However, the Redmi Note 4X will come in 32 GB and 64 GB storage sizes. Both the devices are expected to feature 4 GB of RAM.

It will be arriving with 16-megapixel rear camera. There is no information available on its selfie camera. A 4,000 mAh battery with 9V / 2A fast charging support will be present inside the Redmi Note 4X. It will come with 15W charger.

The Redmi Note 4X supports FDD B5 /.8 networks which indicate that it is a 4G smartphone that will support China Unicom and China Teleco networks in the home country.

Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 4 last August and is available in multiple RAM and processor variants. Four months later, another model called the Redmi Note 4X was seen on TENAA.

The Redmi Note 4X is said to be a beefed up version of the Redmi Note 4 and will sport the new Snapdragon 653 processor. While awaiting its official release, leaked photos of what is said to be the Redmi Note 4X have surfaced online but these pictures have us wondering if it is really the Note 4X or a different phone entirely.

The images were posted on Weibo by @kjuma and show the front and back of the device. There is no doubt that this is a Xiaomi Redmi phone as it shares design similarities with the new Redmi 4/Note 4. The front of the phone has a physical home button which definitely doubles as a fingerprint scanner, just like it is on the dual-camera Redmi Pro. At the top you have the usual sensor, speaker, and front facing camera.

On the rear of the phone, there is an antenna line and directly below it is the rear camera and LED flash. At the bottom is the Xiaomi Mi logo and another antenna line.

These images are confusing because the ones seen on TENAA (above) show a phone with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner and also doesn’t sport a physical home button.

The big question now is if Xiaomi is releasing two different Redmi Note 4X phones; a Redmi Note 4X and another phone; or if the designs are just mixed up.

Its listing on TENAA certification body has revealed additional specifications of Redmi Note 4X. Apart from 64 GB variant, the smartphone is also expected to launch in 32 GB model.

It is expected to feature a 5.5-inch full HD screen. It may come with a 5-megapixel selfie camera and a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Since Redmi Note 4 lacks NFC, rumors indicate that Note 4X may feature it. It may continue to feature a microUSB port, but some rumors claim that it may arrive with a USB Type-C port.

The Redmi Note 4 is currently available for purchase in China. The Standard version of the phone that is priced at 899 Yuan ($129) features 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. The High edition of Redmi Note 4 costs 1,199 Yuan ($172). It features 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage.

Redmi Note 4X Arriving to Take On Meizu M5 Note?

Rumors have it that the Redmi Note 4X with 4 GB of RAM and native storage 64 GB will arrive as a rival product for Meizu M5 Note highest configuration model that features 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage.

As far as design is concerned, the Redmi Note 4X may not sport the chassis that is available on Note 4. Like Note 4, the Note 4X may feature 5.5-inch full HD display, Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS with MIUI 8.0, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel selfie camera and 4,100 mAh battery.

The Meizu M5 Note comes with a USB Type-C port, a feature that is absent on Redmi Note 4. There is no confirmation on whether the Note 4X would feature a USB Type-C port.

The front of the phone looks just like previous Note-series devices. We have a sharp and bright 5.5” 1080p display, nicely backlit capacitive buttons and a highly customizable notification LED light.

However, once you pick the phone up, you can definitely notice that the Redmi Note 4 is much more solid and it is easily the best-constructed Redmi Note phone yet. It just feels that Xiaomi used a higher quality metal in the construction of the phone. Also, the top and bottom parts are made of aluminum too, not like previous models.

We have a 13MP shooter on the back, which is coupled with the dual-LED flash.

Xiaomi phones have been known for great fingerprint scanners and the Redmi Note 4 is no exception. You can unlock your phone very quickly straight from the standby mode.

The buttons feel nice and tactile, and we have an IR blaster to control devices like TVs.

Xiaomi decided to stick with the micro USB port on this phone. As for loudspeaker, I would say it is pretty good as on most of the Xiaomi phones. However, there is a little bit of distortion going on at the highest volume settings.

The sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good too.

I have a standard edition of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 sports a deca-core Mediatek Helio X20 chip with the max. clock speeds of 2.1GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is also expandable via the microSD card slot.

If you are willing to pay extra, you can get a 64GB model with 3GB of RAM.

The gaming performance is great and the phone performs even better than the Redmi Pro despite having the same chip. Games like Asphalt 8 run fine on the highest graphics with just a few skipped frames but that didn’t bother me at all.

A great thing is that the phone does not have any overheating issues.

When it comes to the user interface, the Redmi Note 4 ships with the MIUI 8, which uses Android 6.0 as a foundation.

The MIUI looks similar to the older version but it also has some new design touches. For example, we have a redesigned quick settings and re-organized full settings menus. Now it is easier to find everything and the menu just looks cleaner.

As usual, there are plenty of customization options Xiaomi phones have been famous for. Just to name a few, you can adjust display settings, choose from a variety of themes and so on. One of the key features is called second space. In each space, you can have your different accounts, apps and so on, and you can easily switch from one space to another.

Most importantly, the phone has been working fine and I didn’t have any lag.

We have a familiar camera app that allows you to take pictures very fast and play with some basic shooting modes and settings.

The 13MP camera produces images that are comparable to the Redmi Note 3’s camera but I think we need to see a software update to make the best out of the camera sensor.

For a $160 phone, the pictures look quite nice and there is a good amount of detail in most of the daylight shots. However, there were a few pictures with softer focus and inaccurate-looking colors, especially if you take pictures indoors.

When it comes to the low-light photography, the Redmi Note 4 is a pretty good performer. Sure, you can’t expect much from a $160 phone but the images are one of the best in class.

The video quality is pretty good but it could definitely have more detail and look sharper.

As for selfie camera, a 5MP shooter can produce quite good selfies that will be more than enough for social media.

Unfortunately, the stock camera app allows you to shoot only in 720p with the front facing camera. On the other hand, the quality of the footage is pretty good.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review: CONNECTIVITY

The phone comes with a hybrid dual-SIM card tray, which can take either 2 SIMs or 1 SIM and the microSD card.

As for connectivity, everything has been working fine. Once I first got the device, the Wifi download speeds were very slow but the software update has already fixed that, so make sure your phone runs on the latest version of the MIUI.

A huge 4100mAh battery has been phenomenal. I could use the phone for 2 days easily even with some heavy usage and I used the phone with the performance mode turned on all the time.

That translates to over 5 hours of screen-on time. If you are a lighter user, you can easily get over 6 or 7 hours of SOT.

Although the Note 4 uses MediaTek PumpExpress 2.0 technology for fast charging, Xiaomi does not include the fast charger in the box.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is yet another budget offering by the Chinese giant and I have to say that it is a great phone for the price of $160.

The device sports a very good built quality and it uses metal in the construction. Also, we have one of the best-in-class display, feature-rich user interface and the phone can handle 3D games quite well. Finally, the battery life is fantastic. Even though I got just over 5 hours of screen-on time, I’ve seen some moderate users achieve over 7 hours of SOT.

On the other hand, the rear camera does not seem to have been upgraded. In fact, the current software build leads to a slightly worse performance than the Redmi Note 3 but knowing Xiaomi, it will be definitely fixed with a software update.

The question is: should you upgrade if you have the Redmi Note 3. I would say no since this phone is just an incremental upgrade.

However, if you are in the market of a solid budget-friendly phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 should be definitely on your list as it is an easy buying recommendation for the price of under $160.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 was launched 3 weeks ago. The phone sports a 5.5” FHD display like the Note 3, it also comes in two RAM+ROM variants (2GB+16GB and 3GB+64GB).

Apart from the storage option doubled in the 3GB RAM version, the other major change in the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is the Mediatek Helio X20 SoC.

Most people speculated that Xiaomi will launch another version with a Snapdragon 652 processor, just like they launched a snapdragon 650 version of the Redmi Note 3, which originally came with a Helio X10 chip. But analyst, Pan Jiutang says that will not be happening.

So for those of you who have been staving off the purchase of a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 because you are expecting a snapdragon version, Mr Jiutang says your wish will not be fulfilled so you better pick up the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 now.

If Xiaomi truly doesn’t launch a snapdragon version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, that doesn’t mean they won’t do so for the Xiaomi Redmi Pro, which in my opinion needs a snapdragon version more than the former.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 4 launched last week and truth be told it is actually the Redmi Pro (Helio X20) without the dual cameras and OLED screen.

The Redmi Note 4 retains the same screen size and resolution as its older sibling but has a more refined build. The speaker is now positioned beside the charging port (which now sits in the middle). A change from it’s position in the back which sort of muffled the sound when placed on a flat surface. The Redmi Note 4 also has a silver frame that goes all around it.

The front facing camera and proximity sensor now flank the speaker at the top and are smaller in size now. The company has made no changes to the placement of the rear camera and fingerprint scanner.

The Redmi Note 4 comes in two versions: 2GB + 16GB and 3GB + 64GB. It has a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera for selfies. Its Helio X20 SoC is clocked at 2.1 GHz and it uses a hybrid SIM slot which.The battery is still the same as that of the Note 3 but now supports 5V 2A fast charging. Price starts at 899 Yuan ($135) for the 2GB variant and 1199 Yuan ($180) for the 3GB version but expect to shell out more cash from online shops and re-sellers.

Xiaomi officially unveiled the “thousand yuan flagship” Redmi Note 4 today at a news conference in China and the images reveal a very beautifully designed device with large display screen. Xiaomi also re-categorized the Redmi series into three namely; Redmi, Redmi Note and Redmi Pro series.

The Redmi Note 4 features a slim all-metal body design available in silver, gray and gold color variants. Despite cramming a massive 4,100mAh battery, the Redmi Note 4 still looks flat .

The display sports a 2.5D arc glass covering and the body is said to feature nine CNC diamond cutting on the body. The design keeps the rear camera, LED flash, USB port and fingerprint sensor, all in the same symmetrical centre line.

The antenna bands are visible on the top edge and the bottom edge of the back cover of the device. There are also capacitive buttons for volume control and the power up button on the right side of the device.

The 13MP main camera at the rear comes with 5P lens, f/2.0 aperture, color temperature flash, PDAF and HDR, all geared towards bringing out crisp, clear photos that become difficult to tell if they were shot by a mobile camera.

The 5MP front facing is not to be left out, as it features a f/2.0 alongside Beauty 2.0, and facial recognition.

The beautiful speaker grills, common in Xiaomi smartphones, lies just at the bottom edge of the device, bordering the USB port on both sides and yes, the Redmi Note 4 comes with a 3.5mm audio jack situated at the opposite end. For an 899 Yuan ($135) smartphone, the design is dope, Xiaomi got it right once again!

Xiaomi has yet again continued the tradition of unveiling new Redmi smartphones every few months. After releasing the Redmi 3X and the Redmi Pro smartphones in the past few weeks, now Xiaomi has unveiled the brand new Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 smartphone. The company is calling this device, the “Thousand Yuan Flagship”. Considering the specs, it is true, to some extent.

Unlike the Xiaomi Redmi Pro, which got much fanfare for its launch, the Redmi Note 4 got relatively less attention. Nevertheless, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is a pretty good smartphone. It comes with the same design as the recent Redmi smartphones, a metal body with a fingerprint sensor at the back. The dimensions of the phone are as follows: 151 x 76 x 8.35mm and it weighs 175 grams. If you remember, this is quite close to Redmi Pro’s dimensions and weight. There will be three color options available, silver, gray and gold.

The Redmi Note 4 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD display with 450 nit brightness. Inside, the phone comes with the Helio X20 deca-core processor and it’s actually good to see this chip inside a cheap device. There are two memory versions available. The chip inside is the same, i.e. Helio X20 @ 2.1GHz. But you have the option to choose from the Standard version which comes with 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and high version which features 3GB RAM + 64GB storage. Both these versions have expandable hybrid storages.

At the back, the Redmi Note 4 comes with a single camera sensor of 13MP with 5P lens, f/2.0 aperture, color temperature flash, PDAF and HDR. The sensor is capable of recording at a max resolution of 1080p at 30 fps and 720p slo-mo at 120 fps. The front camera is of 5MP and comes with Beauty 2.0, f/2.0 aperture and facial recognition.

The phone supports dual SIM dual standby with entire network connectivity and comes with a 4100mAh battery with 5V 2A fast charging. The fingerprint sensor at the back also supports Ali and Mi payments. As for software, it will run on Android 6.0 based MIUI 8.

The Redmi Note 4 2GB + 16GB will retail for 899 Yuan ($135) while the 3GB + 64GB version costs 1199 Yuan ($180). The storage on the standard variant is a bit surprising since 32GB has become the standard on most phones. But the company probably decided to limit it to 16GB in order to keep the price under 999 Yuan.

Anyway, considering the pricing and the specs, the Redmi Note 4 is a pretty good option for budget users. What do you think?

Two of Xiaomi’s expected devices, suspected to be the Redmi 4 and Redmi Note 4 have been spotted on China’s regulatory agency TENAA’s website, revealing some key specs of the device but the images of the smartphones were not revealed.

Before now, there has been rumors that Xiaomi will hold a news conference on August 25 where it is billed to release two new smartphones in the Redmi series. This TENAA listing comes just in time to lend some credence to the rumor, considering August 25 is by the corner. In addition, we spotted leaked images of what is likely the Redmi Note 4 with the on screen specs matching those listed on TENAA.

According to the TENAA listing the one suspected to be Xiaomi Redmi 4 features a 5-inch display with 1080 resolution and would be powered by a 1.8GHz processor which is to be the MediaTek Helio P10 chipset. The device is also listed as having 3GB RAM and 32GB of built-in storage . There’s also a 13MP rear camera sensor and a 5MP front camera. The suspected Redmi 4 is also listed to boot Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box and will have a huge 4,000mAh under its hood. Quite curiously, the device is also listed to feature infrared transmission.

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is listed as having a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1080p. The smartphone also said to be powered by a 2GHz processor which is suspected to be the Helio X20 chipset as against the Snapdragon 652 processor earlier rumored to be on the device. The Redmi Note 4 is listed as having two versions, one with 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal storage and a higher version with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Xiaomi has confirmed a new conference on July 27, which is just a couple of weeks away. However, as of now, the company hasn’t revealed what to expect from the new event, nor it has given any hints of the number of products going to be announced that day. Recent rumors have said that there would be more than one announcement, and looks like, the rumors are true, as Xiaomi’s, Director of new Media, Lu, has just revealed via his Weibo account that there will be two announcements at the event.

So what can be those two products? His post reveals that the first product has three letters and the second product has five letters. Judging from the number of letters, the first product could be Redmi 4 (红米4 in Chinese) or maybe Note 4. The second product should be none other than Xiaomi’s first Notebook since 小米笔记本 i.e. Xiaomi Notebook fits perfectly in the five letter space.

Both the products are going to be exciting and we have been hearing consistently about them for the past few weeks. The Redmi Note 4 is expected to be the company’s first dual camera smartphone, featuring a metal body and Helio X20 chip inside. As for the Xiaomi Notebook, there should be three display variants, but the 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch models are expected to debut first. The larger 15.6-inch could be announced later, as per previous rumors.

Xiaomi’s founder Lei Jun had announced via his Weibo account days back that the company is intensifying effort to improve the production of new mobile phones for release in the second half of the year. That effort seems to have started yielding rapid results, as the “China’s Apple” has officially announced a conference holding on July 27.

The announcement came from the hands of one of the three new spokespersons employed by Xiaomi recently. Actor Liu Hao Ran, posted on Weibo about a Xiaomi press conference which would be held on July 27 at the Beijing National Convention Center.

Earlier statements from the tech startup had stipulated that the Xiaomi Mi 5s and the flagship Mi Note 2 with Helio X20 processor, 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM, all metal body, fingerprint scanner and dual main camera, would be released in the second half of this year with new innovative features like pressure touch and dual main cameras.

However, considering that this announcement comes via the spokesperson of the company’s Redmi lineup, we will see a new Redmi device at the end of this month. We have seen a few renders as well as benchmarks of Redmi devices in the past few days including Xiaomi Altun, suspected to be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4.  So, we could be meeting this new device at the event on July 27. The flagship Redmi Note 4 is expected to pop sporting a dual camera at the rear, among a host of stunning features.

Another Xiaomi phone has been spotted on Benchmark website Geekbench, not too long after the Xiaomi Capricorn was sighted benchmarked on Geekbench. The device was listed by the code name Xiaomi Altun on the benchmark site. While it is difficult to tell the particular device this one is,  it is speculated that the Xiaomi Altun could be the new Redmi model, probably Redmi Note 4.

According to the listing, the Xiaomi phone is powered by an octa-core CPU and packs a 2GB RAM under its hood. The device runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow but the chipset isn’t disclosed. All the time the phone’s results were logged, the field that normally lists the chipset in use was consistently left blank.

Quite curiously, the Xiaomi branded phone was discovered to have been tested a good 25 times on Geekbench since the month of May. The log of the device’s performance revealed a fairly consistent results sheet except for the last test. The last test performed resulting in the lowest tallies in the various categories scored by the phone. The device had a single-core score of 798 and a multi-core score of 2664. The highest single-core score, 980, was produced on a test conducted May 8th. The peak multi-core score of 4076 was the result of a Geekbech test dated June 30th.

Recall that earlier this month, the Xiaomi Capricorn, another device with a beautiful code-name, passed through Geekbench.  The Xiaomi Capricorn was tested with a Snapdragon 820 chipset on board, coupled with a quad-core 2GHz CPU, 3GB of RAM and Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow) was installed.

There’s no doubt that dual cameras are the new fad in the smartphone market, with companies equipping their mid-range and flagship phones with two cameras to bring the best camera experience to their devices. Huawei is one company that has taken dual cameras pretty seriously this year, first partnering with the renowned Lecia for its Huawei P9 flagship and later, releasing the Honor V8 and Honor 8 (confirmed to feature dual cameras). But Huawei isn’t the only Chinese company interested in using dual cameras on its smartphones as recent reports have said that LeEco and Xiaomi are also going to release dual camera phones.

Now, we might have our first glimpse of the real image of a Xiaomi smartphone with dual cameras at the back. Unlike other dual camera phones, it looks like Xiaomi’s new smartphone will come with two large sensors aligned vertically. In between the two camera sensors, we can see dual LED flash.

As for the design, the phone comes with a brushed metal finish. Both the sides are curved, which should ensure better grip and we can see the volume and power buttons are located on the right side. Further, there’s the Mi logo on the back, revealing that this is a Xiaomi phone.

So, if you look closely, the raw design of this leaked handset is very much similar to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3. But instead of the fingerprint sensor at the back, in its place, we have the second camera sensor. This probably means that this particular model comes with a home button embedded sensor up front. This could also mean that this is a Redmi model and not the company’s flagship Mi series. Could it be the Redmi Note 4? It’s too early to say anything right now, but it is a possibility.

This image of the Mi device comes just a few hours after a leaked image of the young Chinese actor Haoran Liu holding this leaked dual camera Xiaomi phone cropped up online. Considering that Liu was just signed as the official spokesperson of Xiaomi’s Redmi lineup, it is very much possible that the phone we see in the image is the upcoming Redmi Note 4.

Even though we haven’t stopped talking about the Redmi Note 3, new info has appeared for the Redmi Note 4. A weibo account which goes by the name Said Yang Feng Technology posted that the Redmi Note 4 should be arriving soon. He also mentioned that it is oversized which points towards a larger than 5.5” screen.

If the info above is true,we should be looking at a possible end of summer release for the Redmi Note 4.

Previously, someone also mentioned that the Redmi Note 4 will be powered by a Snapdragon 652 processor, with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM, support for Qualcomm’s QC 3.0 fast charge technology, and support all networks. Even if this is true, we are very sure there’ll be other versions sporting a different processor, and RAM + ROM combo.

Analyst Kevin Wang of IHS Technology also posted that Xiaomi has powerful products lined up for the second half of the year and they plan to achieve a record sale of 20 million devices for the third quarter. To achieve this number, Xiaomi will definitely need to have more than 2 phones (Mi 5s and Mi Note 2) in their production pipeline.

The Redmi Note 3 is still a good device if you are looking for something in the $200 range. It will be getting Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 update, although we don’t know if it will be also an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
