Xiaomi may be getting ready to expand its budget tablet lineup once again. A new version of the REDMI Pad 2 has now surfaced in certification records, suggesting the device could be on the way.

As first reported by XiaomiTime, a tablet listed as the REDMI Pad 2 9.7-inch has appeared in the IMEI database of the GSMA. Devices typically show up in this database before their official launch, so its presence there usually indicates that the company is preparing the device for release.

The listing mentions three model numbers: 2604ERP4DG, 2604ERP4DC, and 2604ERP4DI. These kinds of suffixes often point to different regional variants. Based on the pattern Xiaomi has used in the past, DG is likely meant for the global market, DC could be the Chinese version, and DI may correspond to the Indian model.

Going by the name alone, the tablet will carry a 9.7-inch display. That would make it slightly smaller than many recent tablets that sit around the 11-inch mark. Devices in this size range usually aim for portability first, something that can be easily carried around for reading, watching videos, browsing, or quick tasks.

Connectivity options could vary depending on the model. The tablet is expected to come in both 4G LTE and Wi-Fi-only variants. There is also a chance the Wi-Fi version may launch under a different name in some markets. According to the report, it could appear internationally as the POCO C Pad. Xiaomi has done similar rebrands before, especially with its more affordable devices.

Other hardware details are still unclear at this stage. There’s no information yet about the chipset, battery size, cameras, or memory configurations. Still, the model number itself may hint at the timing. Xiaomi devices with codes starting with “2603” or “2604” have previously been tied to launches early in the year.

If that pattern holds, the REDMI Pad 2 9.7 could make its debut sometime around March or April 2026.

Guess what? That buffer period is over now.

Not long after reports surfaced that Samsung may raise its smartphone prices, several Xiaomi products quietly became more expensive in mainland China. The increases range from 100 to 200 yuan, depending on the model.

The affected models

The price hike affects the Xiaomi Pad 8 series as well as every configuration of the Redmi Pad 2. The base Xiaomi Pad 8 now starts at 2,299 yuan, up from 2,199 yuan. Meanwhile, the higher-end Pad 8 Pro has seen its starting price climb from 2,799 yuan to 2,899 yuan.

The entry-level Redmi Pad 2 has been hit the hardest, with all models increasing in price by 200 yuan. It now starts at 1199 yuan.

According to industry analysts, the sudden adjustment is largely driven by the continued surge in memory and storage chip prices. 

Xiaomi president Lu Weibing previously warned that storage costs had risen far beyond expectations, and a recent TrendForce report predicts another significant increase in storage prices in the first quarter of 2026.

A major factor behind the trend is the rapid expansion of the AI industry. DRAM production capacity is increasingly being redirected toward data centers, creating a supply-and-demand imbalance for chips used in traditional consumer electronics. 

Those cost pressures are now rippling through the supply chain, and Xiaomi’s tablet price increases offer a small but telling example of how the industry is absorbing the shock.

Battery capacity is 9000mAh, supporting up to 17 hours of video playback, 22 hours of reading, 234 hours of music, and 86 days of standby. Charging is supported at 18W through USB-C PD2.0 and QC2.0, though no adapter is included.

Recent reports have claimed that Xiaomi is working on the Redmi Pad 2 (4G) and its Wi-Fi version for multiple markets. In a new development, a Brazilian YouTube channel TukEmperial, has posted an unboxing video of the Redmi Pad 2, giving viewers a first look at its design. Although Xiaomi hasn’t launched the tablet yet, the video covers everything from unboxing to specifications and price, revealing a host of details about the device ahead of its official debut.

Redmi Pad 2 unboxed

The video starts with the unboxing process, showing off the tablet’s box and what’s inside. It includes the tablet itself, a USB-C cable, an 18W charger, manuals, and a tool for the memory card or SIM card tray.

As per the video, the Redmi Pad 2 comes with an 11-inch IPS display that offers a 2.5K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. In terms of audio, the device houses four speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

Powering the Redmi Pad 2 is the Helio G100 Ultra processor, accompanied by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in the unit showcased in the video. There’s also a 4GB RAM version, offering more affordable options.

The Redmi Pad 2 achieved a benchmark score of 400,000 points on AnTuTu benchmarks. Games like Asphalt 9 and Call of Duty run well, claims the YouTuber. Its massive 9,000mAh battery is expected to comfortably last a full day, with the presenter mentioning up to 10 hours of video playback.

On the photography front, the Redmi Pad 2 has an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera with seemingly better quality for video calls. Other handy features include a microSD slot, a headphone jack, and HyperOS-based Android 15 with Circle to Search support.

As of now, Xiaomi hasn’t officially launched the Redmi Pad 2, but with such a comprehensive video already available, it’s likely that the company will reveal the tablet in the coming days. The video also claims that the device is priced at BRL 1300 (~$240).

Xiaomi’s next budget tablet, the Redmi Pad 2, has surfaced in a set of high-quality renders, courtesy of a report from YTechB. It’s the follow-up to the original Redmi Pad from 2022, making this a long-overdue refresh.

The design language hasn’t changed drastically, but there are a few noticeable tweaks. On the back, there’s now a pill-shaped camera module. 

The tablet retains flat edges with squared corners, while the front still shows off relatively thick bezels, a familiar trait for budget Android tablets. The power button sits up top on the right corner, and the volume rocker sits on the right edge.

Redmi Pad 2 Specifications (Rumored)

Specs-wise, the leak points to an 11-inch LCD with a 2.5K resolution (1600 x 2500 pixels) and a 90Hz refresh rate, which should make scrolling feel smoother than on most entry-level slates. 

Under the hood, it’s said to run on MediaTek’s Helio G100 Ultra chip, paired with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2.1 skin. The chip should work adequately for everyday tasks, but don’t expect anything extra. 

The rear camera is an 8MP single-lens shooter with an f/2.0 aperture, while a 5MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls. For audio, the Pad 2 is expected to pack four speakers with Dolby Atmos support.

Powering everything will be a 9,000mAh battery with support for 18W charging. Not the fastest, but acceptable given the segment. There’s also a 3.5mm headphone jack, which continues to be a rare but welcome inclusion in 2025.

The leak also spills the details on pricing. The base model with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is expected to launch at €229. A more capable variant with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will reportedly be priced at €279.

Leaks suggest that a next-generation tablet is also scheduled to be released sometime this year. While early details hinted that it would be called the Redmi Pad 2, a new report claims that the device will be branded as the Redmi Pad SE. Redmi has yet to confirm the release of the new slate, but it appears that we won’t have to wait much longer, as it has received another global certification.

Redmi Pad SE could be a solid budget tablet

The Redmi Pad SE has received TDRA approval with the model number 23073RPBFG. As usual, the certification listing didn’t reveal anything interesting apart from the manufacturer details, which in this case is Xiaomi, and the model number. However, the certification suggests that the Redmi Pad SE is inching toward its global launch.

While we don’t have an official confirmation regarding the tablet’s launch, reports claim it will launch alongside the Xiaomi Pad 6 Max, the Xiaomi MIX Fold 3 foldable phone, and the Redmi K60 Ultra flagship in August in China. MIX Fold 3’s launch is happening on August 14 so we might not have to wait for long.

Last month, the Redmi Pad SE (formerly Redmi Pad 2) bagged FCC certification, which also revealed it will come in variants, such as 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 4 GB RAM + 128 GB storage, and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. The slate is said to run on MIUI 14, based on Android 13.

Earlier today, Xiaomiui reported that Kimovil has published the renders of the upcoming Redmi Pad SE on its website. The product listing also includes the specs of the device.

These specs match those of the heavily leaked Redmi Pad 2. Xiaomiui has even spotted the MIUI builds of the Redmi Pad SE.

As per the MIUI codebase, this tablet is codenamed ‘Xun’. Currently, there are two regional MIUI builds for this device, namely ‘Global’ and ‘EEA’. Thus, it will be released in Europe and select international markets.

The Redmi Pad SE (formerly Redmi Pad 2) will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 chip paired with LPDDR4x RAM. It will be built around a 10.x-inch display (LCD) with a 2K resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate.

It will be equipped with Dolby Atmos-supported quad speakers. There will be an 8MP camera on the rear and another 8MP snapper on the front.
