A new leak has revealed that the upcoming Redmi flagship phones will be arriving in the Chinese markets as Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro. However, at the same time, a specs sheet leak of a smartphone called Redmi Pro 2 has appeared on Weibo. The render of the phone that has also leaked with the specs sheet has revealed its front and rear design.

The leak reveals that the Redmi Pro 2 will be sporting a gradient colored rear panel like the Redmi Note 7 Pro. In fact, the image of the phone appears to be fan-made render that had surfaced in the previous month. The smartphone is equipped with a notch-less display and a pop-up selfie camera. The placement of the elevating camera is different than what was shown in the official teaser of the company’s flagship phone. The official teaser had revealed that the Redmi SD855 phone will be coming with a pop-up selfie camera placed towards the left of its upper edge.

The specs leak of the Redmi Pro 2 will be equipped with 48-megapixel AI driven triple rear cameras. The SD855 fueled phone will be equipped with a 6.39-inch display with notch-less design. An in-display fingerprint scanner will be available on the device. The marvelous display of the Redmi Pro 2 will be protected by Gorilla Glass 5. The pop-up selfie camera module of the phone includes a 20-megapixel selfie camera. It features a 3,600mAh battery that carries support for 27W rapid charging. It also carries support for IR blaster. The color variants of the smartphone are Black, Red and Blue. The leak has no information on the launch date and pricing of the Redmi Pro 2.

Redmi is expected to release two flagship phones soon. The company will be declaring the official names of these smartphones tomorrow. It is very likely that they will be announced with Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro monikers. Hence, it appears that the Redmi Pro 2 could be fake. The Chinese firm is also expected to announce the launch date of the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro phones.

Xiaomi is working hard to bring the new Redmi Snapdragon 855 device by May or June. Multiple teasers from Lu Weibing, Redmi’s general manager already revealed a lot about the device. According to the recent conversation by Lu Weibing on Weibo, it appears Redmi may drop on-screen fingerprint sensor from the device. It is obvious that the company will shed some features to make it budget friendly.

Lu Weibing dubiously replied that the on-screen fingerprint sensor is very expensive when asked about the presence of a rear fingerprint sensor on the upcoming flagship device by a user on Weibo. He kind-of affirmed the absence of on-screen fingerprint sensor on the new device.

The on-screen fingerprint sensors are the norm for every flagship device. Many Chinese smartphone makers like Oppo, Vivo, Huawei and even OnePlus facilitated the users with an on-screen fingerprint. However, it has started appearing on some affordable devices too. Oppo K1 recently launched as the most budget-friendly device sporting the in-screen fingerprint sensor in India.

Recent reports suggest Redmi SD855 will carry a pop-up camera module embracing a 32-megapixel sensor. On the rear side, there will be a triple camera module equipped with 48-megapixel primary camera + 8-megapixel + 13-megapixel. Moreover, there will be a 3.5 mm audio jack and NFC for safe, secure and quick payment transfers.

After that a render of the Redmi flagship phone with pop-up selfie camera had surfaced on social sites. The render which appeared fake revealed that the handset carries Redmi Pro 2 moniker. Redmi President Lu Weibing has only debunked the image but has also claimed that the phone will not be equipped with a pop-up selfie camera.

Since Lu Weibing is once again talking about the Snapdragon 855 SoC fueled Redmi phone, it is a clear indication that the company is working on it. If it is not coming with a pop-up selfie camera, could it be arriving with a waterdrop-style notched display? Rumors surrounding the phone have claimed that it will be arriving with Sony IMX586 48-megapixel triple camera and in-screen fingerprint reader. Hopefully, the details of the phone may surface in the forthcoming weeks.

In February, Weibing had confirmed for the first time on Redmi flagship phone with SD855 chip. The company has no intentions to launch it soon and it is currently focusing on increasing the sales of its recently released Redmi Note 7 series and Redmi 7 smartphones.

There is no launch timeframe for the phone. Probably, it could be arriving in the second half of the year. Some reports have claimed that the same phone may hit the global markets as Poco F2. However, it is too early to come to such a conclusion.

The above shown image belongs to the Redmi phone with 855 SoC. It was spotted with Xiaomi CEO last month. While the display design of the phone is not clearly visible, it did reveal that it features a 3.5mm audio jack. There is no clear evidence to prove that the above phone is the Snapdragon 855. It appears like a notch-less phone. The upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is also expected to arrive with a notch-less display.

Xiaomi’s independent Redmi brand was recently tipped to have got a flagship model in the works. The device is rumoured to adopt the moniker Redmi Pro 2 and recently, the render of the model was leaked showing a pop-up camera design. The real-life picture of the supposed Redmi Pro 2 has now leaked on China’s Weibo.

The leakster only indicated that the phone is Xiaomi’s Snapdragon 855 flagship but no mention of Redmi Pro 2 was made. The device is also detailed to feature triple rear cameras and that is visible from the picture. The pop-up camera design will ensure the bezels around the display are minimal and the device will have a high screen-to-body ratio. The camera is at the middle while two antenna bands run adjacent at the left and right sides. While there is no evidence the model will be called Redmi Pro 2, the innovative pop-up design aptly fits the iteration considering that the Redmi Pro released in 2016 was Xiaomi’s first dual camera phone. Thus, it won’t be a bad idea if the first pop-up camera-packing phone is called Redmi Pro 2.

The Redmi brand is turning out to be a brand full of surprises. Just a few months in the market, we are already getting inundated with spectacular products under the brand. First, we saw the Redmi Note 7 with its rock-solid Gorilla glass that just won’t break. Then the Redmi Note 7 Pro joined the fray with a powerful Sony IMX586 48MP sensor and Snapdragon 675 chipset. The budget Redmi 7 that didn’t in any way look like a budget phone was also unveiled recently. Away from smartphones, Redmi also added several new products like a washing machine, Airdots earbuds etc. There is no word yet on when the pop-up camera-packing model will be launched but we expect that to happen sometime soon.

There are some contradictory reports that claim that the Redmi phone launching on Thursday could be Redmi Pro 2 or Redmi X or Redmi 7 Pro.

At 2 PM (local time) in Beijing, China, Redmi will be announcing the alleged Redmi Note 7 smartphone. It is speculated that the company would be also announcing the Mi TV 4X Pro and sound bar alongside the Redmi phone.

In the previous month, Xiaomi President Lin Bin had released an image of a mysterious Redmi phone with 48-megapixel rear camera. Bin had also confirmed that the company will be releasing the smartphone in January. After the establishment of Redmi as independent brand at beginning of this year, the company began teasing on the features of the Redmi Note 7. The handset is codenamed as “Little King Kong.”

The predecessor Redmi phones have featured 3-stage metal and polycarbonate combination chassis. The purported Redmi Note 7 launching tomorrow will be the first Redmi phone to arrive with a glass rear. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun has confirmed through a teaser video that it will be featuring 2.5D curved glass panels on its front and rear. A teaser video showing people stamping and jumping on the phone and another video showing a woman with high-heels trampling its display have revealed how durable the Note 7 will be.

Jun has also released official photos of the Redmi Note 7 to confirm that the handset will be available in Black and two color gradient options. There is “48MP AI Dual Camera” mentioned below the dual camera setup of the phone. The smartphone had appeared on TENAA with preliminary specs and images in the previous week. The smartphone measures 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1mm. It houses a waterdrop notch enabled 6.3-inch display that produces full HD+ resolution.

There is a vertical dual camera setup on its rear which includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor. The handset is fueled by a 4,000mAh battery. The recently spotted Geekbench listing of the Redmi Note 7 had revealed that it is powered by Snapdragon 660 chipset and 6 GB of RAM. The handset is preloaded with Android 9 Pie OS. It could be the first Redmi phone to feature a USB-C port which indicates that it may carry support for fast charging. Lei Jun has also hinted that the handset could be priced around 2,999 Yuan (~$439).

Contradictory reports that have claimed that the company will be launching Redmi 2 Pro have suggested that it could be the first phone ever to feature Snapdragon 675. Hopefully, leaks surfacing ahead of tomorrow’s launch may confirm more details on the mysterious Redmi phone. A Russian tech blogger had shared key information on the unannounced Redmi 7 Pro handset in December. Hence, it is also being speculated that the Chinese firm may launch the Redmi 7 Pro tomorrow.

Rumors are claiming that the mysterious Redmi device could be arriving in the market as Redmi Pro 2 while other reports have claimed that it could be the Redmi 7 Pro handset. Three model numbers such as M1901F7C, M1901F7E and M1901F7T have now surfaced on TENAA with preliminary specs just ahead of the Jan. 10 launch event. This suggests that the newly approved devices by TENAA could be the variants of the alleged Redmi Pro 2.

Since the M1901F7C, M1901F7E and M1901F7T devices have the same dimensions, display size and battery, they are three variants of an upcoming Xiaomi device. The shadow below the large-sized Redmi word clearly hints that the company will be unleashing a 48-megapixel camera enabled Redmi smartphone on Jan. 10. The event will be held at 2 PM (local time) on the said date in Beijing, China. The teaser image has no other details on the specifications of the upcoming 48-megapixel Redmi camera phone.

One important thing that can be deduced from the launch poster is the “new independent brand” text which suggests that Xiaomi is splitting the Redmi brand to make it independent like Huawei’s Honor and OPPO’s Realme. A recent report pitches the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 as the Xiaomi X1 which is revealed to replace what should have been the next-gen Redmi Pro-series. New details have now emerged which suggests the two models are not the same. In other words, the Redmi Pro 2 is likely still in the works and is distinct from the Xiaomi X1 which may be a new series Xiaomi is introducing.

A new leak has revealed the screen for the Redmi Pro 2 and the screen doesn’t seem to be a full-display screen as was rumoured. The display is a large 6-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080pixels. The screen IC driver model is given as Hx8839c and isn’t manufactured by Tianma as also rumoured earlier on. 

The Redmi Pro 2 camera is said to be a 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup at the rear with the main sensor being a 12MP Sony IMX362 sensor with a 1.4um individual pixel. The device is also tipped as coming with a 16MP Samsung S5K3P8 front-facing selfie camera with several other functions such as f/1.9 aperture. There are rumours that the Redmi Pro 2 will feature a Snapdragon 630 processor backed by 3GB RAM and could sell for a price of 2299 Yuan ($338) as against the 1999 Yuan ($229) price which the Redmi Pro sold for. This may be unlikely, seeing how close the price is to the flagship Mi 6.

Xiaomi is selling Mi series smartphones as high-end and flagship devices. The Redmi series includes midrange smartphones. Fresh information coming from a Chinese leakster suggests that Xiaomi may introduce a new series of phones called Xiaomi X and the Xiaomi X1 will be its very first device.

The leakster has revealed two variants of the Xiaomi X1 which includes a full-screen design version and a regular screen edition. The text on the following image states it is a TPU case for Xiaomi X1.

The first variant has a 5.5-inch Pegasus display with full-screen design. It will deliver a screen resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels. It will be driven by Snapdragon 660 chipset. The second Xiaomi X1 variant is expected to come with a regular screen. Its screen resolution is unavailable, but it is likely to support full HD resolution. It will be also fueled by Snapdragon 660 chipset. It may feature a front-facing fingerprint scanner, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. For this variant also, the leakster has provided the same set of pricing for two types of standard and high models.

Hence, it is likely that the regular screen totting Xiaomi X1 may come with 4 GB/64 GB standard and 4 GB/128 GB high models and the X1 featuring full-screen display may arrive with 6 GB/64 GB standard and 6 GB/128 high models. The Xiaomi X1 could be the Xiaomi Jason phone that has been spotted on GFXBench.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 Cancelled?

The tipster further claims that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 may have been canceled by the company probably because the original model may not have sold well. Hence, there is no information on its existence. During the Surge S1 conference presentation event held earlier this year, the company only spoke nothing about Redmi Pro series, but gave information on Redmi and Redmi Pro series. Hence, there is a possibility that the Redmi Pro 2 will not release and even Redmi Pro series has been cut off.

A report from the previous month speculated that the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 would be coming with a full-screen display. However, it now seems that the rumored phone could be the Xiaomi X1. The leakster claims that the Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, Xiaomi X1 and MIUI 9 ROM would be releasing in this month.

Once again, we have been treated to a new leak detailing the specs of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2. The Redmi Pro 2 is the tech giant’s second-gen model which is expected to take over from the Redmi Pro released last year. The Redmi Pro was Xiaomi’s first smartphone to feature an OLED display and a dual camera setup. A second-gen model is already due, considering the Redmi Pro was released in July last year.

The leaked specs sheet reveals the Redmi Pro 2 will feature an LCD display manufactured by TCL as against the OLED display the Redmi Pro uses. The display is listed to have a Full HD resolution but there are talks of a full-screen display on the Redmi Pro 2. The sheet also lists the device as packing a 3GB RAM manufactured by Samsung but there is no word on the processor. The Redmi Pro 2 was recently spotted briefly on Xiaomi’s official website with a Snapdragon 660 chip among other details.

On the camera aspect, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 will pack two rear camera sensor comprised of a 12MP Sony IMX362 main sensor and a 5MP Samsung S5K4E8 secondary sensor. The device is also listed with a 16MP Samsung S5K3P8 sensor at the front for selfies. Other listed details include WiFi, Bluetooth, Accelerometer, Gyroscope. We can’t verify the authenticity of this leaked specs.

Earlier in this week, Japan Display (JDI) had officially confirmed the arrival of its newest full screen display like the one available on Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. Fresh speculations indicate that the highly anticipated Mi MIX 2 will be equipped with JDI’s full screen display.

Wang has asked the audience in his one of his recent posts on Weibo that who should be using JDI’s Full Active display. As it can be the seen in the users’ comments for Wang’s post, most of them are expecting to see the new display on a Xiaomi phone. The high resolution screen seems to be a suitable candidate for MI MIX 2. Hence, a Redmi device is unlikely to feature it. As far as, the alleged Redmi Pro 2 is concerned, it is expected to feature a full screen display from Pegasus.

According to an industry insider from Taiwan, Cold Creek Dev on Weibo, the second half of the year will see full screen display enabled smartphones equipped with 3D sensing camera technology that will bring improvement to iris recognition and facial scanning. He adds that the 3D sensing technology is likely to appear first on Huawei Mate flagship that is expected to debut in the second half of the year. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is also speculated to feature it.  The mass adoption of 3D sensing technology is expected to begin next year.

The above rumors hints that the Mi MIX 2 may possibly feature a JDI screen. Previous rumors have revealed that the Mi MIX 2 will continue to sport a full screen design and offer a higher screen-to-body ratio. It is also expected to feature a glass equipped along with dual rear cameras. It also rumored to deliver better call quality experience.

The full screen display from Japan Display is officially known as Full Active. It is a 6-inch LCD screen that produces a resolution of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels. As it can be seen in the official image provided by JDI, all the four sides of screen is surrounded by very slim bezels. With second-generation Pixel Eyes technology incorporated in JDI’s Full Active screen, it produces deeper blacks and delivers higher contrast. Also, the screen functions seamlessly with wet fingers. The Full Active screen is also expected to be available on the alleged Sony Xperia XZ1 smartphone that is expected to debut at IFA 2017.

In the previous week, an industry insider, Kevin Wang had claimed that the 2017 second quarter result of Xiaomi appears impressive. In the first quarter of this year, Xiaomi sold 13 million smartphones and in the second quarter, the company is expected to exceed more than 20 million units.

The substantial increase in sales is not only because of the high popularity of Xiaomi Mi 6 flagship phone in the home country of China but also because of the stupendous popularity of mid-range smartphones such as Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi 4 in the Indian market.

Today, Kevin Wang has again claimed that the sales of Xiaomi phones in this month has been even more impressive. He has revised statement on second quarter sales. Previously, he had stated that Xiaomi may sell more than 20 million units in Q2 and his today’s Weibo post states that Xiaomi is expected to sell 23 million units in this quarter. Moreover, he has also forecasted that Xiaomi may sell 28 million smartphones in the third quarter of 2017. Here is the Weibo post:

Considering the fact that Xiaomi recorded a sale of only 13 million units in Q1, the company seems to have rebounded very well in this quarter. Xiaomi is expected to continue to impressive sales till the end of the year as it is rumored to launch couple of “start products” in the remaining half of the year. It seems that it won’t be difficult for the company to cross 80 million units sales mark by the end of 2017.

Rumors have it that Xiaomi has several smartphones lined up to release in this year. The Redmi Pro 2 is speculated as the first Snapdragon 660 chipset driven phone from the company. It is also rumored to be the cheapest smartphone with full-screen display design like Galaxy S8. Speculations also suggest that Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus may debut soon.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 3 and Mi MIX 2 are also some of the most awaited smartphones from the Chinese firm this year. Also, before the end of the year, Xiaomi is also pegged to announce the budget-friendly Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5 smartphones in China.

Full display smartphones have been on the increase since Xiaomi blaze the trail with the release of the Mi Mix flagship. A similar trend would be followed by LG on the G6 and recently, Samsung on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ as well as Nubia and its sleek Nubia Z17 flagship. Apple is expected to tow the same line on the iPhone 8 which would be launched later this year. There are also several other Chinese brands working on full-screen phones like Doogee, Bluboo and a host of others.  In keeping with the emerging trend, there are indications that the expected Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 may present with a full display design.

There has been an earlier report Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo and others are also interested in having a full display phone which has prompted display manufacturers in Taiwan to commence manufacture of displays with 18:9 screen-to-body ratio. Xiaomi is specifically tipped to use the display type on the Redmi Pro 2. The display that would be featured on the Redmi Pro 2 was said to be on display at Computex in Taipei recently and would be manufactured by Tainma. According to a diagram of the prototype, the screen has only about 0.5mm bezel at the sides while the bottom bezel is about 1.8mm. The screen comes with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

According to the rumoured schedule, the sample would be out this June even though the Redmi Pro 2 is tipped for launch in July. There are speculations that the Redmi Pro 2 will feature a Snapdragon 660 processor along with 6GB RAM and 64GB of storage. The device is expected with a 5.1-inch 1080p display while the camera will be a single 12MP sensor at the rear. There is no way to verify if these details are factual but we know Xiaomi is indeed working on the Redmi Pro 2 after its brief appearance on the tech giant’s official website. Apart from that, there is always some facts in every rumour coming out of the Chinese smartphone industry.

A new device codenamed Xiaomi Jason has been seen on GFXBench. Since the Mi Max 2 is already out of the way, the only device we are thinking it might be is the Redmi Pro 2. However, the display size is what’s preventing us from ruling outright that this is the Redmi Pro  2.

According to the info on GFXBench, the Xiaomi Jason has a 5.1-inch FHD display. This is smaller than the size of the original Redmi Pro which is a 5.5-inch display. This singular reason makes us think it might not be the Pro 2.

There is also a possibility that Xiaomi decided to cut down the display size just the way Motorola did with the Moto G5 Plus and offer the Redmi Pro 2 as a top tier mid-range phone. But reducing the screen size isn’t the only thing required for a top mid-range phone.

The Xiaomi Jason runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat, has 6GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm CPU clocked at 2.2GHz and an Adreno 512 GPU. There is no doubt that this is the Snapdragon 660 chip, the king of the mid-range chips.

The rear camera on the Xiaomi Jason is an 11MP (12MP) sensor that can record in 4K while the front facing camera is a 3MP sensor. The latter is probably a 4MP UltraPixel sensor like the one in the Mi 5. Another feature the Xiaomi Jason has is NFC support.

If this isn’t the Redmi Pro 2, then we don’t know what it is seeing as Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun has quelled rumors of a Mi 6c.

It has been months now since Xiaomi pulled off the Redmi Pro from its official website. When it happened, we thought they were preparing to launch its successor, the Redmi Pro 2 as there were a number of leaks then, sadly that hasn’t happened yet.

Today, the Redmi Pro 2 was spotted on Mi.com before it was pulled down. Lucky for us we managed to get a screenshot even though it is missing the image of the phone itself.

The Redmi Pro 2 is listed as sporting a 5.5-inch OLED display just like the original. It is powered by a Snapdragon 660 which draws power from a 4100mAh battery. Unlike earlier reports that the Redmi Pro 2 won’t have dual cameras, this comes with 16MP dual cameras on the rear, an upgrade from the dual 13MP sensors on the Redmi Pro.

Last but not the least is the price. The Redmi Pro 2 will sell for ¥1199 (~$174), which isn’t too expensive for a phone with an OLED display and dual rear cameras. Although the memory configuration isn’t stated, we want to believe this is a 2GB RAM model.

Last year’s Redmi Pro started at ¥1499 ($217) for the 3GB + 32GB model with a Helio X20 SoC; ¥1699 ($246) for the 3GB + 64GB model with a Helio X25 processor; and ¥1999 ($290) for the 4GB + 128GB model also with a Helio X25.

We might also be wrong and that’s the price for the 3GB RAM model but we don’t want to raise our hopes too high.

Xiaomi has been hinting that it would be selling its smartphones in the U.S. However, in an interview with Engadget, Wang Xiang, the Global VP of Xiaomi, confirmed that expanding its market in the U.S. is not the priority for the company.

Xiaomi has just launched its flagship phone, the Mi 6. In this year, it is speculated to launch several smartphones such as Xiaomi Mi 6 Plus, Mi Note 3, Mi Max 2, Redmi Pro 2 and Mi MIX 2. However, Xiaomi fans in the U.S. and Europe who are eagerly waiting to see the arrival of Xiaomi fans will have to wait longer as they won’t be able to purchase these phones in their countries this year.

It means the only way to avail Xiaomi phones is to order them from Chinese online retailer sites such as GearBest or Giztop that are selling them with slightly expensive pricing. Xiaomi does not want to sell its smartphones directly in the U.S. like other brands like OnePlus and Honor (Huawei’s sub-brand) are doing. It feels that selling phones directly in the U.S. will not help in building its relationship with the carriers in the U.S. and this could negatively impact the reputation of the company in the U.S.

Like other major brands, Xiaomi too wants to penetrate the U.S. market at the right time after negotiating with carrier companies. It also aims to set up full-fledged customer service. Currently, Xiaomi is selling its phones in 30 regions that are considered as developing markets.

Xiaomi is a very popular brand and has a good potential of growing in these markets. Currently, it is on the number two smartphone brand in India and in countries like Ukraine, Indonesia and Myanmar, Xiaomi is at placed at number three position. Since it encountered supply chain issues, it is now on the fifth spot in China. However, the U.S. market is saturated where brands like Apple and Samsung are the ruling the smartphone market. Wang said that it is not in a hurry to arrive in the developed markets.

Before making its phones available through the U.S. carriers, the company should go through extensive testing process for its smartphones. However, it does not have sufficient engineering resources for it, but it is looking forward to making its smartphones available through the four popular U.S. carriers such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint.

Colors are going to be playing a major role in phones this year. In recent weeks, a number of manufacturers have released new color variants for some of their phones. We have also seen newly launched phones sport unique color options. An example is the Huawei P10 which comes in green and blue. Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ which will launch tomorrow will also be available in blue, pink, and purple. A new leak suggests that Xiaomi will be joining this colorful bandwagon with a pink Mi 6.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is rumored to launch in April and pictures we have seen so far have shown the phone in black. It is therefore good to know that alongside the usual black (and white) color variants, Xiaomi might be adding a pink variant too.

I’m using the word “might” because these images bring up a lot of questions. First the build and design are different from previous leaks. Instead of a glass back, this “pink Mi 6” sports a metal back just like the Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus.

The design is also different. It lacks the curves present on the Mi 5 series and doesn’t even appear to be brushed metal like the Mi 5S Plus. Another confusing part is that it sports the same dual camera design we have seen on recent leaks. And those antenna lines…..Aarrgggh! I thought we left that in 2016.

This device may actually be a Redmi phone, probably the Redmi Pro 2. But even at that, Xiaomi has changed the design of the Redmi series. I seriously hope this is not the Xiaomi Mi 6 or 6 Plus. I’ll assume it is the upcoming Redmi Pro 2.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 was expected to be the next big thing from the innovative Chinese company and is scheduled for launch next month. But there are indications that Xiaomi has got another big one coming our way this month. Rumors making the round claim Xiaomi is planning to release a new Redmi series smartphone at the end of this month.

We don’t know how true this is, but it is said that the Redmi device in question is the Redmi Pro 2, the successor to the Redmi Pro launched last year. The Redmi Pro was Xiaomi’s first smartphone to pack a dual lens camera setup and the Redmi Pro 2 is said to feature the same camera configuration. Earlier on, specifications of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 had leaked showing it would sport a 12MP Sony IMX362 single sensor at the rear. The device is also said to feature a Snapdragon 660 processor but there are talks of a MediaTek Helio P25 onboard with enhanced support for dual cameras and 12x ISP.

The Redmi Pro is the top of the Redmi line. Launched in August and the first Xiaomi phone to sport an OLED display and dual cameras, this phone has been missing from Xiaomi’s website for a while now. The reason for that seems to be because Xiaomi has been working on the Redmi Pro 2.

Earlier today, leakster @Kjuma who is gradually building a reputation for genuine leaks posted a snapshot revealing tons of details of the upcoming device.

Redmi Pro 2 Specs

First, there is a camera change. The Redmi Pro 2 will not have dual cameras. It seems people weren’t too pleased with the performance of the dual camera combo of the Redmi Pro, so Xiaomi is ditching it for a single sensor. The new camera is actually a Sony IMX362 with a 1/2.55” sensor and a 1.4µm pixel. The camera has also got Dual Pixel autofocus.

The big change for me is actually the processor. The Redmi Pro launched with a Helio X25 SoC. The Helio X25 is actually a great processor but some of us wanted a Snapdragon variant but sadly there wasn’t one. The Redmi Pro 2 will be launching with a Snapdragon 660 processor this time. The Snapdragon 660 aka MSM 8976 Plus will take over from the 653 and 652 as the mid-range chip for 2017.

Another major change is the battery capacity which Xiaomi has bumped from 4050mAh to 4500mAh. There is no mention of a change in screen size though the display appears to be bigger than 5.5-inches. Notwithstanding, the larger battery should suffice even if the displau is bigger.

Redmi Pro 2 Price

The Redmi Pro 2 will be available in two storage variants according to the image. There will be a 4GB RAM variant with 64GB of built-in storage priced at ¥1599 (~$232) and a 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage priced at ¥1799 (~$262). Expect the prices to go higher when it launches though.
