ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini has finally debuted on April 6 after a few weeks of leaks. It is a budget smartphone that features a dual rear camera. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro phablet that was launched in July 2016 is one of the major rivals of Nubia Z17 Mini. Here is a comparison between the two smartphones to find out which one is better phone.

The ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini has a metal unibody design that measures 146.7 x 72.5 x 7.5mm and weighs 155 grams. It comes in color options such as Silver, Gold and Gray. The Redmi Pro also sports a full metallic chassis and it sports narrow bezels. Since it measures 151.5 x 76.2 x 8.2 and it weighs 174 grams, it is taller, wider, thicker and slightly heavier than the Nubia Z17 Mini. It comes in colors like Black, Gold and Red.

The bezels of Redmi Pro are slightly thicker than the bezels present on Nubia Z17 Mini. The physical Home button on Redmi Pro has a fingerprint scanner embedded in it. The Nubia Z17 Mini has a capacitive Home button and it features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

The Nubia Z17 Mini comes with a 5.2-inch IPS LPTS display that produces a full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Xiaomi has included an OLED LTPS screen of 5.5 inches that also produces full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with a ppi count of 401. It offers a screen-to-body ratio of 72 percent. The Nubia Z17 Mini comes in two CPU editions. The Standard variant is powered by Snapdragon 652 whereas the High variant is driven by Snapdragon 653. On the other side, the High and Exclusive editions of the Redmi Pro is fueled by MediaTek Helio X25 SoC and the Standard model is driven by Helio X20 SoC.

RAM, ROM and MicroSD

The Nubia Z17 Mini Standard edition has 4 GB of RAM and its High edition has 6 GB of RAM. Both the variants have 64 GB of internal storage. The Exclusive edition of Redmi Pro has 4 GB of RAM and its native storage is 128 GB. The other CPU variants of Redmi Pro come with 3 GB of RAM and internal storage choices of 32 GB and 64 GB. The second SIM compartment on the hybrid SIM slots of both phones carries support for microSD card.

Battery

The ZTE Nubia Z17 Mini has a 2,950 mAh battery whereas the Xiaomi Redmi Pro is packed with a larger battery of 4,050 mAh. Both phones carry support for 5V/2V fast charging through the USB Type-C port.

The prices have been slashed since (check the table). The Nubia Z17 Mini that has been announced recently will on sale from April 13. Its 4 GB RAM model is priced at 1,699 Yuan ($246) and 6GB RAM at 1,999 Yuan ($289).

The Redmi Pro is the top of the Redmi line. Launched in August and the first Xiaomi phone to sport an OLED display and dual cameras, this phone has been missing from Xiaomi’s website for a while now. The reason for that seems to be because Xiaomi has been working on the Redmi Pro 2.

Earlier today, leakster @Kjuma who is gradually building a reputation for genuine leaks posted a snapshot revealing tons of details of the upcoming device.

Redmi Pro 2 Specs

First, there is a camera change. The Redmi Pro 2 will not have dual cameras. It seems people weren’t too pleased with the performance of the dual camera combo of the Redmi Pro, so Xiaomi is ditching it for a single sensor. The new camera is actually a Sony IMX362 with a 1/2.55” sensor and a 1.4µm pixel. The camera has also got Dual Pixel autofocus.

The big change for me is actually the processor. The Redmi Pro launched with a Helio X25 SoC. The Helio X25 is actually a great processor but some of us wanted a Snapdragon variant but sadly there wasn’t one. The Redmi Pro 2 will be launching with a Snapdragon 660 processor this time. The Snapdragon 660 aka MSM 8976 Plus will take over from the 653 and 652 as the mid-range chip for 2017.

Another major change is the battery capacity which Xiaomi has bumped from 4050mAh to 4500mAh. There is no mention of a change in screen size though the display appears to be bigger than 5.5-inches. Notwithstanding, the larger battery should suffice even if the displau is bigger.

Redmi Pro 2 Price

The Redmi Pro 2 will be available in two storage variants according to the image. There will be a 4GB RAM variant with 64GB of built-in storage priced at ¥1599 (~$232) and a 6GB RAM variant with 128GB of storage priced at ¥1799 (~$262). Expect the prices to go higher when it launches though.

In a surprising twist to its current set up, Xiaomi has announced a new price for the Redmi Pro which was released a couple of months back as the company’s first dual cameras sporting device. The Xiaomi Redmi Pro price started at 1,499 Yuan ($225), coming in as Xiaomi’s costliest Redmi handset till date. Now the device will be available for 1,099 Yuan ($163) for the lower version with Helio X20, 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, that’s a huge 400 Yuan off!

Not only that, the higher storage version with Helio X20 SoC, 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM has also been slashed downwards to 1299 Yuan ($193) from its previous 1699 Yuan price tag. In addition, the top-end Redmi Pro version with Helio X25 chips, 4GB RAM + 128GB of built-in storage which hitherto retails for 1999 Yuan ($300) now starts at 1599 Yuan ($237).

This is coming a bit as a surprise as no reason was given for the price cut across board but it may be connected to the launch of the Huawei Honor 6X which also features a dual camera set up and is moderately priced. Sales of the Xiaomi Redmi Pro would commence on October 19 at 10 am via Mi mall, and Mi Home.

As a reminder, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro was released with an all new CNC brushed metal body design, equipped with the MediaTek Helio X25 on the topmost version with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There are two other versions, both with Helio X20 chips, 3GB of RAM and then 32GB ROM as well as 64GB ROM respectively. The device also sports a 13MP main camera and 5MP depth of field sensor at the rear, with a large 4500mAh battery keeping the lights on.

The front of the phone looks just like previous Note-series devices. We have a sharp and bright 5.5” 1080p display, nicely backlit capacitive buttons and a highly customizable notification LED light.

However, once you pick the phone up, you can definitely notice that the Redmi Note 4 is much more solid and it is easily the best-constructed Redmi Note phone yet. It just feels that Xiaomi used a higher quality metal in the construction of the phone. Also, the top and bottom parts are made of aluminum too, not like previous models.

We have a 13MP shooter on the back, which is coupled with the dual-LED flash.

Xiaomi phones have been known for great fingerprint scanners and the Redmi Note 4 is no exception. You can unlock your phone very quickly straight from the standby mode.

The buttons feel nice and tactile, and we have an IR blaster to control devices like TVs.

Xiaomi decided to stick with the micro USB port on this phone. As for loudspeaker, I would say it is pretty good as on most of the Xiaomi phones. However, there is a little bit of distortion going on at the highest volume settings.

The sound quality via the headset jack is pretty good too.

I have a standard edition of Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 sports a deca-core Mediatek Helio X20 chip with the max. clock speeds of 2.1GHz, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, which is also expandable via the microSD card slot.

If you are willing to pay extra, you can get a 64GB model with 3GB of RAM.

The gaming performance is great and the phone performs even better than the Redmi Pro despite having the same chip. Games like Asphalt 8 run fine on the highest graphics with just a few skipped frames but that didn’t bother me at all.

A great thing is that the phone does not have any overheating issues.

When it comes to the user interface, the Redmi Note 4 ships with the MIUI 8, which uses Android 6.0 as a foundation.

The MIUI looks similar to the older version but it also has some new design touches. For example, we have a redesigned quick settings and re-organized full settings menus. Now it is easier to find everything and the menu just looks cleaner.

As usual, there are plenty of customization options Xiaomi phones have been famous for. Just to name a few, you can adjust display settings, choose from a variety of themes and so on. One of the key features is called second space. In each space, you can have your different accounts, apps and so on, and you can easily switch from one space to another.

Most importantly, the phone has been working fine and I didn’t have any lag.

We have a familiar camera app that allows you to take pictures very fast and play with some basic shooting modes and settings.

The 13MP camera produces images that are comparable to the Redmi Note 3’s camera but I think we need to see a software update to make the best out of the camera sensor.

For a $160 phone, the pictures look quite nice and there is a good amount of detail in most of the daylight shots. However, there were a few pictures with softer focus and inaccurate-looking colors, especially if you take pictures indoors.

When it comes to the low-light photography, the Redmi Note 4 is a pretty good performer. Sure, you can’t expect much from a $160 phone but the images are one of the best in class.

The video quality is pretty good but it could definitely have more detail and look sharper.

As for selfie camera, a 5MP shooter can produce quite good selfies that will be more than enough for social media.

Unfortunately, the stock camera app allows you to shoot only in 720p with the front facing camera. On the other hand, the quality of the footage is pretty good.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review: CONNECTIVITY

The phone comes with a hybrid dual-SIM card tray, which can take either 2 SIMs or 1 SIM and the microSD card.

As for connectivity, everything has been working fine. Once I first got the device, the Wifi download speeds were very slow but the software update has already fixed that, so make sure your phone runs on the latest version of the MIUI.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review: BATTERY LIFE

A huge 4100mAh battery has been phenomenal. I could use the phone for 2 days easily even with some heavy usage and I used the phone with the performance mode turned on all the time.

That translates to over 5 hours of screen-on time. If you are a lighter user, you can easily get over 6 or 7 hours of SOT.

Although the Note 4 uses MediaTek PumpExpress 2.0 technology for fast charging, Xiaomi does not include the fast charger in the box.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Review: CONCLUSIONS

Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 is yet another budget offering by the Chinese giant and I have to say that it is a great phone for the price of $160.

The device sports a very good built quality and it uses metal in the construction. Also, we have one of the best-in-class display, feature-rich user interface and the phone can handle 3D games quite well. Finally, the battery life is fantastic. Even though I got just over 5 hours of screen-on time, I’ve seen some moderate users achieve over 7 hours of SOT.

On the other hand, the rear camera does not seem to have been upgraded. In fact, the current software build leads to a slightly worse performance than the Redmi Note 3 but knowing Xiaomi, it will be definitely fixed with a software update.

The question is: should you upgrade if you have the Redmi Note 3. I would say no since this phone is just an incremental upgrade.

However, if you are in the market of a solid budget-friendly phone, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 should be definitely on your list as it is an easy buying recommendation for the price of under $160.

Folks who own the Redmi Note 3 (Snapdragon and Mediatek) that have updated to MIUI 8 must have noticed that the android version is still stuck on Lollipop. It’s actually sad, knowing that one of the best selling Redmi phones is still running lollipop when Android 7.0 Nougat has already been released.

MIUI’s operations manager @RanGer posted on Weibo that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is being developed for the Snapdragon version of the Redmi Note 3. He mentioned that beta testing was supposed to begin yesterday but due to some problems that have not been ironed out, the beta program has been postponed. There is no news yet on the new date, so if you are eager to start testing, you might want to exercise a little bit of patience.

In the mean time, you can keep yourself busy by trying out the new features of MIUI 8.

The post however makes no mention of the mediatek version. There are tens of thousands of people who own the Helio X10 version of the Redmi Note 3 (yours truly included) and it will be a great disservice if it doesn’t get updated to Marshmallow. It might even discourage people from picking up newer Xiaomi phones that have a mediatek processor such as the Redmi Pro, as there is a chance the company will release a version with a Qualcomm SoC that gets all the attention. Oh! We already covered a leak of a phone said to be the Redmi Pro Mini which has a Snapdragon 652 processor. You see what I’m saying?

The Redmi Pro is Xiaomi’s latest flaghsip smartphone which was introduced at July’s end but just went on sale a few weeks back and already it’s got the teardown treatment.

The practice of dismantling an entire smartphone to see what lies under its hood isn’t just for fun but also to see if it’s easy or difficult to fix it if it gets to that point. We’ve got the entire teardown in photos right here.

The teardown starts by removing the SIM card tray from its slot with the special ejector that comes with the device. Once the SIM tray is out, the back casing is the taken off, revealing the internals components. Pretty easy isn’t it?

Although the Redmi Pro comes with non-removable battery, the battery is also easy to take out once the back frame is off.

Once the battery is out, all the other components can easily be dismantled with a screw driver. Some components like the camera sensors are even removable without using a screw driver. You can follow the entire procedure in photos from the gallery down below but please don’t try this at home if you haven’t got the expertise.

First, there were single camera smartphones. As smartphone cameras progressed, the MegaPixel count increased, as did the aperture size. Then came the craze for dual camera phones. The craze died down for a while and this year, all thanks to a few companies like Huawei and LG, dual cameras are back in action. But looks like this time, dual cameras are here to revolutionize the smartphone camera segment as almost all major smartphone companies are reportedly working on a dual camera phone this year.

Xiaomi unveiled its first ever dual camera smartphone, the Redmi Pro, a few days back and like always, the phone brings tremendous value for your money. But LeEco was very quick to fight back, and now, we have an even cheaper dual camera device, the Cool1 Dual, released by LeEco in collaboration with Coolpad. We know both LeEco and Xiaomi are top notch Chinese companies and they have changed the way we look at budget smartphones.

Now that you have two dual camera smartphones available in the mid-range price segment, it’s quite hard to choose between the Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro. This is where the article comes into the picture, as today we compare the key specs and features of the Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro to see whether any particular model has an edge over the other. Turns out, there are a few key differences and some major ones which could affect your buying decision.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: DESIGN

As always, design is going to be something that’s based on your personal preference. Both are pretty good looking smartphones and there will be some who prefer the Xiaomi Redmi Pro’s design and some others who like the Cool1 Dual’s Design.

Both feature metal bodies but the LeEco Cool1 Dual comes with a smooth texture. On the other hand, the Redmi Pro has a brushed metal texture. Personally, I like the brushed metal finish on the Pro but I am sure there will be some readers who’ll disagree.

There are other differences as well. The Cool1 dual comes with capacitive keys, while the Redmi Pro comes with a home button up front with two capacitive buttons. As you might have guessed, this means that the fingerprint sensor is also on the front of the Redmi Pro. On the other hand, the Cool1 Dual features a fingerprint sensor at the back of the device. The dual cameras are arranged vertically on both the models, but the Cool1 Dual’s module is integrated in one single housing, while you will clearly see two separate sensors on the Redmi Pro. Both have USB Type-C port as well.

Cool1 Dual Dimensions: 152 x 74.8 x 8.2mm Weight: 173 grams

Redmi Pro Dimensions: 151.5 x 76.2 x 8.15mm Weight: 174 grams

Considering both are 5.5-inch smartphones, they have very similar dimensions. Even the thickness is almost the same, measuring around 8.2mm. As for the weight, it’s once again surprisingly similar, as you can see above.

So, looks like LeEco Cool1 Dual was made for taking on the Redmi Pro from the start. Can’t really pick out a winner here, as both have very similar figures.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: DISPLAY

These two phones are using very different displays.

The Cool1 Dual comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display with 72% NTSC and 450 nit brightness. On the other hand, the Redmi Pro comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p OLED display with 100% NTSC color gamut but with a brightness of 350 nits. Redmi’s OLED panel should be richer in color but the Cool1 Dual should have a brighter screen.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: HARDWARE

Once again, both smartphones have different specs. The Cool1 Dual comes with the Snapdragon 652 octa-core chip (4x Cortex A72 + 4 x Cortex A53) clocked at 1.8GHz. Since we want to level the playing ground, in this comparison, I am going to consider the mid-range variant of the Cool1 Dual that features 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage, costing 1499 Yuan, exactly as the Redmi Pro’s standard edition.

The Redmi Pro, on the other hand, comes with MediaTek’s Helio X20 chip clocked at 2.15GHz (2xA72 + 4xA53 + 4xA53) with 3GB of RAM. Yes, the base variant of the phone, which retails at 1499 Yuan comes with just 3GB of RAM. There’s 32GB of internal storage as well.

Now, at this point, the Cool1 Dual really looks like the better smartphone with SD652 and 4GB RAM. However, there’s one major flaw in the Cool1. The phone does not have a MicroSD card slot, which is a big disappointment. So, for the two variants (which have just 32GB ROM) of the device, you will be stuck with 32GB of internal storage. On the other hand, the Redmi Pro has an edge in this department, considering it comes with MicroSD card slot (although a hybrid one) expandable up to 128GB.

Now, it comes down to your choice. Either you can opt for a faster processor (better GPU), larger RAM and better third party ROM support (hail Snapdragon!) by choosing the Cool1 Dual (i.e. if you can somehow be satisfied with 32GB internal storage), or you can choose the Redmi Pro, whose Helio X20 is also quite a good performer and comes with expandable storage.

In case you are wondering, both have eMMC 5.1 storages.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: Cameras

Now, this is one area which I am sure everyone is interested to see. Once again, the two companies have used different technologies on their respective smartphones. Both have dual cameras and both are aligned vertically, however, the technology is different.

The Redmi Pro as we know comes with two camera sensors, a primary Sony 13MP sensor along with a 5MP sensor from Samsung that acts as a secondary sensor for depth information. The setup is said to take amazing Bokeh images, replicating similar quality as a DSLR.

Other features of the Redmi Pro’s camera module include 5P lens, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, and color temperature flash. The phone is capable of capturing 1080p and 720p videos at 30fps. Slo-motion videos are captured at 720p @ 120fps. Up front, you get a 5MP shooter with f/2.0 and 85-degree wide angle lens.

Coming to the Cool1 Dual, it uses a slightly different setup. There are two 13MP sensors in the module, one RGB sensor and another monochrome sensor. Information from both the sensors are combined to create images, which should technically feature less noise and better clarity, especially in low light conditions.

Other features of this module include 4K and 1080p video support at 30fps, Slo-mo videos at 720@120fps, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, 6P lens and color temperature flash. Up front, you get an 8MP f/2.2 aperture sensor with 80-degree wide angle lens.

On paper, the Cool1 Dual seems to have an edge over the Redmi Pro. In fact, during the announcement, LeEco had mentioned that its phone uses dual camera 2.0 technology (RGB + Monochrome setup) as compared to Dual Camera 1.0 tech used by Redmi Pro (Primary cam + Depth sensor). Cool1’s ability to take 4K videos is also a big advantage.

So, at least on paper, Cool1 Dual’s camera could have an edge. We hope that real life images taken from both the phones will confirm this.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: BATTERY

As I mentioned above, it’s clear that the company is targeting the Redmi Pro, trying to beat the competition in the segment. So, even in this department, they both have almost identical specs. The Cool1 Dual comes with a 4060mAh battery while the Redmi Pro comes with a 4050mAh battery. Both have fast charging, so it won’t take too long to fill the juice up to 100%. Can’t really choose a particular model in this department.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: CONNECTIVITY

Both have very similar specs, with Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi display, Infrared sensor, GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, Beidou, USB Type-C common on the two models. However, the Cool1 Dual comes with 5GHz Wi-Fi ac standard which is faster than the Wi-Fi n standard on the Redmi Pro.

Both have fingerprint sensors, with Redmi Pro having it on the front, embedded into the home button, while the Cool1 having it at the back of the phone.

Both the models come with Android Marshmallow running out of the box. The Cool1 Dual features EUI 5.6 while the Redmi Pro, as tradition comes with MIUI 8.

There are two color options for the Cool1 Dual — Silver and Gold, while there are three colors available for the Redmi Pro — Gray, Silver, and Gold.

Cool1 Dual is priced cheaper than the Redmi Pro, starting at 1099 Yuan ($167). There are two other variants, retailing at $226 and $257. On the other hand, the Redmi Pro starts at 1499 Yuan ($226) and goes on till $300.

Cool1 Dual vs Redmi Pro: VERDICT

It’s actually easy to pick out a winner in this comparison. The LeEco Cool1 Dual would be a great option if you want a phone which is cheaper, probably with a slightly better camera, 4K video support and Wi-Fi ac.

On the other hand, if you can’t live with 32GB storage (a major deal breaker), want a richer OLED display and love MIUI, then Redmi Pro would be a good buy.

If not for the non-expandable storage, the LeEco would have been the ultimate Redmi Pro killer bringing 4K video support, Wi-Fi ac and better graphics performance at a cheaper price tag.

Xiaomi recently announced the Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone with dual cameras on board. The phone is the costliest Redmi handset from the company till date and kind of breaks the common cheap price mentality that we usually associate with the Redmi series.

Considering its 1499 Yuan ($226) price tag, the Redmi Pro might feel as if it’s a bit costly for a Redmi smartphone, which it is, but today, we take a look at the competition for the device and check whether it offers better value for the money you pay. Xiaomi smartphones have always been popular for bringing the best value for your buck, so let’s see if that applies to the Redmi Pro as well.

As most of you would know, there are a lot of innovative features on the Redmi Pro, setting it apart from the competition in its price segment. In fact, it is one of the cheapest dual camera smartphones that you can buy right now. But that’s not just it. It’s also a cheap Helio X20 powered smartphone, although there are a few other options like the Vernee Apollo Lite and the 360 N4s that beats the Redmi Pro in terms of pricing.

Since we are taking a look at the competition of the Redmi Pro, we are considering phones that are around $225 (+- $20). In this range, there are a few good options, and we will compare their specs with the Pro to see whether it’s worth paying $226 for the brand new Redmi device.

Since we want to have the best in this list, we are going to consider phones that are either running Helio x20 or Helio X25 around this price tag. Surprisingly, there is one SD820 phone that’s priced very close to Redmi Pro, which if you remember, is none other than the ZUK Z2 (Rio Edition). Below is a comparison of the competition of Redmi Pro at its $226 price tag.

Appearance & Dimensions:

Most of the phones in the above comparison feature a metal body. ZUK Z2 is the only exception with a double glass body but even that looks premium. So, I am not going to compare the appearance of these phones since the liking to a particular design differ from person to person.

What we can compare is the dimensions of the body. So, when it comes to dimensions, the two LeEco phones in the list, namely the Le 2 and the Le 2 Pro turns out to be much more compact as well as lighter than the Redmi Pro. However, the difference is just marginal and not something that you would notice in your regular usage. The LeEco devices are definitely thinner, measuring just 7.5mm. But Redmi Pro’s 8.2mm thick body is justified by the large battery inside. We won’t be comparing the ZUK Z2’s dimensions and weight, mainly because it’s a 5-inch phone and the rest all are 5.5-inch devices.

The weight of the Redmi Pro is a bit higher than the competition. Both, LeEco models and 360 N4S are lighter at 153 grams and 169 grams respectively, as compared to Redmi Pro’s 174 grams.

Display:

The display on the Redmi Pro should be better on paper considering its the only phone with an OLED panel in the list. Rest have IPS LCD screens. Unsurprisingly, all phones have 1080p resolution.

Processor & Memory:

As you can see in the list, there are two phones that should perform better than the Redmi Pro, at least on the basis of their chipsets, namely the Le 2 Pro with Helio X25 and the ZUK Z2 with Snapdragon 820. The difference between Helio X20 and SD820 is actually quite significant, but for most usage, Helio X20 should be enough. If you remember, on AnTuTu, Helio X20 scores just over 90K points, Helio X25 above 95K points and SD820 around 125K+ points.

Since we are considering the base variants of all devices in the list, the Redmi Pro comes with just 3GB of RAM. At around the same price, you have three models which feature 4GB of RAM, the Le 2 Pro, 360 N4S and Vernee Apollo Lite. All the models in this list feature 32GB of internal storage, but Redmi Pro has an advantage as it comes with a MicroSD card slot (hybrid). This is where the Le 2 Pro, which has been doing so well in the earlier departments, fails. On the Le 2 Pro and the Le 2, you will be stuck with 32GB of internal storage with no option to expand.

Camera:

So, the camera is one major department where specs are not really indicative of its performance. On paper, Redmi Pro has a big advantage, being the only dual camera smartphone in the list, coming with 13MP Sony sensor and 5MP depth secondary sensor from Samsung. This should technically enable better low light images and features such as bokeh, not found in other phones in its price range.

But we can only judge the performance of the camera after we try it out in real life. On paper, the 360 N4S and the Le 2 Pro also seem to have pretty good cameras.

Battery:

The battery is one area that Redmi phones have managed to master in the recent releases. This one is no different as it comes with a 4050mAh battery, good enough for a couple of days. But you will be surprised to see that Redmi Pro isn’t the largest battery phone in this list. The 360 N4S comes with an even bigger 5000mAh battery, making sure that no other phone is nearly as good as the N4S in the battery department. ZUK Z2 is the third best battery phone in the list as it comes with a 3500mAh battery.

Price:

The Redmi Pro costs $226 for the base variant, and there are three other phones in this list that are cheaper than this model. The 360 N4S and Le 2 seem to be the two major competitors who are cheaper than the Redmi model, offering quite similar value. But these two phones have its own set of drawbacks as compared to the Redmi device, which we will mention below. As for the Le 2 Pro, the pricing is same as the Redmi Pro and the ZUK Z2 with SD820 is priced slightly higher at $241.

Verdict:

So, you saw the comparison, and you read the differences above. Which one do you think offers the best value among the above devices?

Well, I would have to say the 360 N4S is Redmi Pro’s biggest competitor, offering 4GB RAM, a larger 5000mAh battery at a much cheaper $180 price tag. But there’s one major problem, getting hold of this handset is not going to be easy. Even the 16MP f/2.0 aperture camera seems to be quite good on paper. If we had to pick Redmi Pro’s advantage, it could be the dual cameras at the back, i.e. if they manage to perform much better than the N4S.

The Le 2 Pro would be another close competition, offering 4GB RAM, slimmer body and a slightly faster Helio X25 at the same $226 price tag. However, the small 3000mAh battery, non-expandable storage and the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack are good reasons for a buyer to prefer the Redmi Pro or 360 N4S model over the Le 2 Pro.

Le 2 is the cheaper offering and at $166, you get great value for money. But when the Redmi Pro comes into the picture with its expandable storage, OLED display, much larger battery and Dual Cameras, the latter seems to bring a lot more features, if you are ready to shell out a bit more.

ZUK Z2 Rio edition is a good option for people who would like to have SD820 for just $240. But if you are okay with Helio X20 (which is quite a decent performer for everyday use), you would see that the Redmi Pro saves you a few bucks and offers much more value with dual cameras, expandable storage and larger battery. Of course, for those who want a power performer, you probably wouldn’t get anything better in terms of power at this price than the Z2 Rio Edition.

Considering that the Vernee Apollo Lite makes it to this list, it shows that the phone offers pretty good value. You get Helio X20 + 4GB RAM and expandable storage for just $200. And unlike the other models, whose international resale price would be much higher (after adding premium from resellers), the Apollo Lite is actually a pretty good phone. But if you manage to get hold of the Redmi Pro at its official price (easier if you are in China), then paying additional $25 gives you a better screen, larger battery, and a better camera setup, all from a trusted and established Chinese brand.

So, like my title says, buying the Redmi Pro at $225 won’t be a bad decision.

An industry analyst, Pan Jiutang has said the Mi 5s and Mi Note 2 will follow the trend of the newly released Redmi Pro and have higher prices than their predecessors.

The Redmi series is known for its low price tag but that has changed with the release of the Redmi Pro which has a starting price of 1499 Yuan ($224) and goes up to 1999 Yuan ($299), setting the record for the most expensive Redmi phone. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise since the Redmi Pro is sporting a number of new features the company hasn’t put on a phone before, such as  the use of dual rear cameras and an OLED display.

The Mi 5s is reported to also launch with dual cameras. It will have a glass body, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, and an advanced pressure sensitive display. The Mi Note 2 on the other hand will feature a snapdragon 821 SoC and an advanced pressure sensitive 2K display as well but with a curved edge. These new features will definitely see them having higher price tags but which are still competitive enough for them to give the competition a run for their money.

Xiaomi released the much hyped Redmi Pro flagship yesterday boasting of great specs especially the 13MP+5MP dual rear cameras featured on the device. The phone also features other specs like a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display screen, a deca-core Helio X25 processor on the top-end model as well as Helio X20 chipset on the base models. Other specs include 3GB and 4GB RAM options, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB built-in storage models and a whopping 4050mAh battery.

Even with these caliber of specifications, nothing is known before now about the performance of the Redmi Pro but details of the Antutu benchmark performance scores of the top-end version sporting 4GB of RAM + 128GB of internal storage and a Helio X25 processor, have surfaced online. The scores lists the performance of the device in various aspects, posting impressive results.

When Xiaomi announced its desire to chart the path of offline sales and shipments outside China targeting markets in Europe and the US, some never took the Chinese company serious on that. Xiaomi has no presence in US and little in Europe but officially, its products are not sold in Europe and the United States.

But the Chinese innovative start up known for powerfully built but moderately priced gadgets seem poised to achieve its goals. The two recent releases announced today affirms that Xiaomi is serious about diversifying. The two devices, the Redmi Pro and Mi Notebook Air hold their own, based on the powerful specs they feature.

With a brushed metal body, extra large 4050mAh battery, 13MP dual camera setup, tagging along a price starting at $225 is beyond awesome. But of all the specs the Redmi Pro boasts of, the 13MP dual cameras at the rear should be its most spectacular feature. The high-end  Sony IMX258 sensor on the cameras leaves little to the imagination as to the image quality we should expect and sure the cameras haven’t disappointed, that is if the test images we’ve seen purportedly taken by the Xiaomi Redmi Pro’s dual main cameras.

There are two cameras on board the smartphone, a 13MP (Sony) sensor + 5MP depth sensor (Samsung) at the rear with f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front facing cam. The sensors also packs phase-detection pixels that makes auto-focus faster. Tests have shown repeatedly that large pixels don’t necessarily guarantee quality image outputs, perhaps that is why Xiaomi added a second 5MP camera at the rear with the duo functioning together to capture one image. What the second camera at the rear does is that it captures images simultaneously with the main rear camera and allows you to refocus the image after you’ve captured it. There’s also a slider which allows you to control the amount of blur on the background, so you can achieve a bokeh effect at our image’s background similar to those DLSR are capable of.

The samples from Xiaomi better explains the capabilities of the dual cameras which the Redmi Pro features at its rear. The images captures the attention of any viewer with their crisp, clear, flawlessly sharp focus image amidst blurred background. It would be overly ambitious to suggest that the images are as sharp as those DSLR cameras are capable of, but they are all the same nice. Quite curiously though, there are no images showing how the Redmi Pro would fare in low light conditions. Maybe we’ll see those in coming days but for now enjoy these great shots from the Redmi Pro dual-camera’s shutters.

Today is a big day for Xiaomi and their fans. The company is launching their first PC, the much awaited Mi Notebook and their first dual-camera phone, the Redmi Pro. Our focus is however on the Redmi Pro.

We have got a bunch of official photos which we want you to feast your eyes on and dissect with us.

The Redmi Pro is all shades of gorgeous. It appears to be narrower and taller than the Redmi Note 3, looking more like the HTC 10. Xiaomi has removed the speaker from the back and put it at the base flanking the USB Type-C port (this is new for the redmi series) on both sides. The button placements are the same though: volume rocker at the top and the power button below so your hand can easily reach it.

The top part of the Redmi Pro still features a 3.5mm audio jack, a noise-cancelling microphone and an IR blaster.

The most important change is the replacement of the fingerprint scanner which usually sits below the LED flash with a second camera. The fingerprint scanner has been moved to the front. This might be a deal breaker for some folks who prefer having it at the back. It will actually take time to get used to especially if you are switching from the Redmi 3 series. We believe the fingerprint scanner also doubles as a physical button. It also seems Xiaomi has ditched the back and recent apps button or maybe just redesigned them as dots like it is on the Mi 5.

These pictures are of the grey and silver version but there’s a third gold version as well.

After months of leaks, rumors and teasers, Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Xiaomi Redmi Pro flagship. Like the name suggests, this will be the most powerful Redmi device from the company till date, featuring top-end specs that will rival existing flagship smartphones in the market. The Redmi Pro, like expected, comes with dual cameras at the back, a first for Xiaomi and hopefully something that will continue in upcoming devices.

Like we saw in the leaked images, the Redmi Pro will come with an all metal body with CNC diamond cut and brushed metal finish with gloss anodizing process. This will ensure that the phone looks like a true flagship, featuring premium and refined design. You get USB Type-C port as well as 3.5mm headphone jack on the device, along with a 5.5-inch display and 2.5D glass up front. The fingerprint sensor is located on the front of the phone, embedded into the home button. As for the measurements, they are as follows: 151.5 x 76 x 8.15mm. Considering the phone features a large 4050mAh battery, this is pretty good.

Now, coming to the most important part i.e. the specs. As we saw in the TENAA listing a couple of hours back, the Xiaomi Redmi Pro will come in three variants. The low-end version runs on the deca-core Helio X20 with 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Then there are two Helio X25 powered models that come in the following variants: 3GB RAM + 64GB ROM and 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM.

For the first time, Xiaomi has used an OLED panel on the device and the company claims its way better than the traditional LCD panels. The phone is using a 5.5-inch FHD OLED panel. It boasts of 100% NTSC color gamut. The company has also released a couple of images to compare the difference between the two technologies.

Now, moving on to the camera department, the Redmi Pro comes with dual cameras at the back. The primary camera will be a 13MP Sony IMX258 sensor and the secondary sensor will be a 5MP Samsung one. The aperture value ranges from f/.095 to f/5.6. The company claims that the use of dual camera setup helps the phone take real time hardware level bokeh images. The resulting images are said to be comparable to the ones taken from a DSLR camera. The presence of the ImagiQ Pro chip also helps to improve this function. Further, you can reportedly adjust the focus after the image is captured.

Up front, the phone comes with 85-degree wide-angle 5MP sensor.

As for the battery, its large and will easily last you a couple of days. You get a 4050mAh battery inside, like the other Redmi models in the lineup, which will make sure that battery life isn’t going to be an issue on this particular phone. There are other standard connectivity features such as VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 4G+ etc.

The Xiaomi Redmi Pro goes on sale on August 6, both offline and online. The base variant with Helio X20 + 3GB RAM + 32GB storage starts at 1499 Yuan ($224). The Helio X25 model with 3GB + 64GB will retail at 1699 Yuan ($254) while the Helio X25 + 4GB + 128GB model will retail at 1999 Yuan ($300).

The top end model enters the territory of Snapdragon 820 flagships like Mi5 and ZUK Z2! So, we hope that the new Redmi Pro comes with an amazing camera!

Two models of Xiaomi’s expected Redmi Pro flagship phone has been spotted on China’s telecoms regulatory agency TENAA’s website. The two models which just got certified are noticeably sporting varying features. While one of the models looks like a low end model, the other one packs high-end device features. The difference in both models is in the aspect of the type of processor and memory (both RAM and ROM) sizes they feature.

According to the TENAA document, the low-end / standard version features a 2.0GHz deca-core Helio X20 processor from MediaTek alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM. On the other hand, the high-end version sports a faster 2.5GHz deca-core Helio X25 chipset together with a 3GB + 64GB ROM variant and a 4GB + 128GB ROM variant.

In other specifications, both models are listed to feature 13MP dual cameras at the back and 5MP front-facing cameras. The two Redmi Pro models equally sports the same 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution, feature the same dimensions of 151.5 x 76 x 8.15mm and both cram a 4,000mAh battery under their hoods. Although the display type isn’t stated, Xiaomi had earlier on hinted that the Redmi Pro will be its first phone to feature OLED display.

Obviously, both versions are expected to be unveiled on July 27, and would definitely feature different price tags. The low-end version is likely to get a price tag in the range of 1099 yuan ($165) or even lower.

The past few days have been flooded with news about the upcoming Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone that will be announced on July 27. In the past three days, the company released a few teasers which hinted and almost confirmed that the phone will come with a metal body, deca-core processor, dual cameras and OLED display. However, now, Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun has officially confirmed the processor on board the upcoming smartphone as well as the presence of dual cameras at the back.

First of all, Lei Jun confirmed that the Redmi Pro will feature the Helio X25 deca-core processor. We had a doubt whether the phone would be using the slightly slower Helio X20, but this confirms that the faster variant is going to end up on the device. Along with the image (above), he asked his fans which other flagships use Helio X25 chipset inside. Well, there are the two popular ones, the flagship Pro 6 and then, the Le 2 Pro. So, looks like he’s trying to say that the new Redmi model will be competing with these two devices.

About an hour later, Lei Jun further took to Weibo to ask another question to his fans: “Some smartphones use two cameras to take pictures, what would you call this technology?”. He even gave three options: Dual cameras, Dual lens and double cameras.

Well, we take this as a confirmation that the upcoming Redmi Pro features a dual camera setup!

Xiaomi’s Redmi Pro flagship smartphone had been speculated all along to be among the devices launching on July 27. But confirmation about that has not been officially done by the Chinese company except via teasers in the form of video or images laced with coded messages, leaving it at the mercy of our brains to interpret the messages.

However just this morning, CEO Lei Jun took to Weibo to express his excitement over the Redmi Pro’s release and categorically confirmed that the flagship device would be released next Wednesday. The message ended there but we were able to gather that he was talking about the Xiaomi news conference holding next Wednesday being July 27.

All along, for the past three days, the three spokespersons for Xiaomi Wu Xiubo, Lu Shi and Liu Hao Ran have taken turns to release promotional videos. The first day, we got served “OLED PING” by Wu Xuibo, followed by Lui Shi who served us “ten nuclear double stem head”, and “Mentor” Liu Hao is going to make “brushed gold potato” (literal translations from Chinese).

The theme of the celebrity cooking highlighted some of the specifications the Redmi Pro will feature. When summed up, the three promotional videos revealed Xiaomi’s next flagship will come with an OLED screen (first for Xiaomi), Deca-core processor + dual camera, and sporting a polished (brushed) metal body.

Xiaomi is all set to unveil the Redmi Pro on July 27, which is just a week away. The phone should be the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature dual cameras at the back. We have been seeing leaks, rumors and even hints from the company which confirm the presence of the setup at the back. While we have very little details of the specs of the dual cameras at the back, today, we might have a first glimpse at the camera samples from the Redmi Pro.

Naturally, given that the phone will feature dual cameras at the back, bokeh effect is something that all of us would like to see. Looks like the camera does a fine job of capturing images with blurred background as the two new samples are of high quality. Of course, it looks very good because these photos were taken by professional photographers. But it does give us a glimpse of what can be achieved by the setup.

As of now, these two are the only samples we have seen from the Redmi Pro, but we can expect more such images as we near the launch.

We’ve just got official confirmations about Redmi Pro, one of the devices that will be launched on 27th July 2016. Earlier in the day, Xiaomi confirmed that the Redmi Pro will indeed have an OLED display. Although there are hundreds of other devices with OLED screen in the market, for Xiaomi, it is going to be their first device featuring an OLED screen.

Xiaomi, today, released new official teasers and in one of the teasers, celebrity Chef Liu Shi Shi is shown cooking an “OLED PING”. With these two dishes, which will be revealed in detail in the next two days, Xiaomi could be trying to say that the Redmi Pro comes with a Deca-core processor (Helio X25) and dual cameras. Well, that’s exactly what we will take from the teaser as these features have been revealed before.

What we already know is that Redmi Pro will come with a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 4GB RAM, up to 128GB native storage, would support dual SIM dual standby full CNC and MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0. In terms of pricing, your guess is as good as ours ! But earlier reports have said that it could be higher than other Redmi models.

Apart from the Mi Notebook laptop launching on July 27, Xiaomi is expected to unveil a new flagship smartphone in the Redmi series. All along, the device was tipped to be the Redmi Note 4 since logically the current latest is the Redmi Note 3, until it was outed that the flagship may likely be called Redmi Pro.

Xiaomi has released a video teaser on its Weibo page that seems to suggest that the Redmi Pro would sport an OLED display. The video teaser and its attached text tells us that one of Xiaomi’s new spokesperson, @Wu Xiubo would serve today’s first Cuisine which it named as French dessert “OLED PING” and described as “Colorful, like the Galaxy, feel comfortable and romantic life”. The message went on to disclose that from today and in the next seven days before the July 27 Xiaomi news conference, the three spokesmen will be involved with the launch of the Redmi Pro.

The video teaser almost confirms that the Redmi Pro will feature an OLED display. The OLED display will be featured on the 5.5-inch 1080p display which the Redmi Pro has been touted to tag along. Other specs expected on the device includes; a deca-core Helio X25 processor, 4GB of RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI, dual cameras, dual SIM and lots of stunning features which would keep you hooked on this device.

hThe Xiaomi Redmi Pro is just days away from the July 27 unveiling at the company’s news conference, but that hasn’t stopped discussions around the expected Redmi flagship which is tipped to tag along a cheap price label. Apart from the expected specs, the price has formed the bulk of discussions about the Redmi Pro which was thought to be priced around 1000 yuan ($150).

But analysts have suggested that the price might be higher than that. The official introduction of the device as one of the devices to pop on July 27 described the Redmi Pro as “the professional, the flagship” and according to analysts, this seems to suggest that Redmi Pro will be higher than the current Redmi Note series and perhaps sport a price tag ranging between the Redmi price range and the Mi price range.

However, the Redmi Pro isn’t expected to carry a price higher than the Mi phone series, even though the Redmi Pro surpasses the Mi phone in some of its rumored configurations. The Redmi phone series presently carry a price ranging between 699 yuan ($105) and 1099 yuan($165), while the cheapest Mi phone which is the Mi 4c costs 1099 yuan ($165). When this is considered, analysts believe the Redmi Pro will break the 1000 yuan barrier .

Some analysts believe that the Redmi Pro will be priced at 1499 Yuan(about $230), a tad higher than the current Redmi Note range because of the Pro attached to the name which indicates some higher specs package. Secondly, the increase in price could be a good way to enhance the image of the Redmi and Redmi Prime series. Also, a higher, more competitive price will aid Xiaomi in its plans to expand to new markets.

Even at 1499 yuan ($230), the Redmi Pro will still be very cheap with the giant array of features the device is touted to launch with, such as a dual camera setup, 4GB RAM, dual SIM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, 5.5-inch 1080p display, a deca-core Helio X25  chipset, fingerprint sensor and other goodies.

Xiaomi fan club members have even launched a vote to see the price tag fans would prefer the Redmi Pro to carry. The options where 1499 yuan ($230), 1699 yuan ($254) and 1999 yuan ($300) and of the three options, around 80% of fans think the Redmi Pro should be priced at 1499 yuan ($230).

We all have been wondering what to expect from the July 27 event from Xiaomi. There were a few guesses, with a majority of them stating that we will see the new Redmi Note 4 model soon. Along with that, it is said we will also see the new Xiaomi Notebook at the event. Now, the company has just confirmed at least one product that will be unveiled on July 27, and it will be called as the Xiaomi Redmi Pro! Yes, not Redmi Note 4 or Redmi 4, but simply as the Redmi Pro.

The company just started a new topic on the micro-blogging website, Weibo with the title “Redmi Pro” and the date fixed at July 27, when Xiaomi has confirmed it will unveil new products. The Redmi Pro name actually says a lot about the phone. This time around, the company is not giving it the usual number (ideally, it should have been Redmi 3 Pro), instead, it is using the Pro name. So, this could be a good indication that the new device is going to redefine the Redmi series. If we were to consider the various rumors and leaks that have been going around on the internet in the past few days, then we can expect pretty powerful hardware on the new device. This could be the ultimate Redmi device from the company, and the timing couldn’t be perfect as July 2016 marks the third year anniversary for the company’s best-selling low-cost lineup.

If you remember, we had seen the Redmi Pro model on Geekbench a few days back. The listing revealed a few details about the specs of the device like the presence of the powerful Helio X25 chipset, 4GB RAM and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This could be the final specs of the upcoming device. Camera details are not confirmed, but a leaked teaser revealed that the phone could be sporting dual cameras at the back.
