The tweet reveals that India’s first Mi Notebook will make its global debut on June 11. It will offer one of the highest screen-to-body ratios compared to other brands. It will be a compact device with slim bezels around its so-called “Horizon Display.”

Xiaomi has been consistently expanding its product catalog in India. Mi fans in the country have been earnestly waiting for the arrival of Mi Notebook and RedmiBook laptops. It is still unclear whether the RedmiBook 13 that had launched in China in December 2019 could be a rebranded as Mi Notebook product for India.

Xiaomi has been selling its smartphones with an enticing price tags in the country. Xiaomi India Chief Business Officer Raghu Reddy had recently stated that the company the upcoming laptops won’t have affordable pricing like its smartphones. Xiaomi has been launching new products in the Indian market at regular intervals, along with introducing new product categories. After years of waiting, the company is finally bringing its much-awaited product in the Indian market — laptops.

The company recently started teasing the arrival of Xiaomi laptops in the Indian market but Xioami has not yet confirmed which model is getting unveiled. But now, information about this has leaked online.

As per the report, Xiaomi will be launching its laptop in the Indian market on 11th June. Although the laptop is said to be the RedmiBook 13, it will be rebranded and launched under the company’s Mi brand in India.

The leaked teaser images of the upcoming product showcase a 13-inch bezel-less display and Intel Core i7 processor. However, we expect the company to offer the product in other chipset configuration as well.

Although Xiaomi is known for making affordable products, which is actually the reason behind its massive success in markets like India, the upcoming laptops won’t be priced aggressively. Raghu Reddy, the chief business officer at Xiaomi India recently said that the company won’t follow the smartphone model of affordability, and will instead be targeting the laptops for creators, students, and gamers.

The RedmiBook 13, which was unveiled in China in December last year, comes with a 13.3-inch Full HD display with an 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is powered by the 10th-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce MX250 GPU, along with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage.

As for the pricing, in the Chinese market, the Core i5 model of RedmiBook is priced at 4,199 yuan which is about ₹44,500 (~$588) while the Core i7 model costs 5,199 yuan that roughly converts to ₹55,000 (~$728).

It remains to be seen how the company prices the Mi laptop in the Indian market. Xiaomi is yet to officially announce the launch date for the laptops but we expect the company to do so in the coming days.

Xiaomi had teased the launch of its latest RedmiBook series earlier this week. Now, the Chinese tech giant has finally launched the new generation of ultrabook laptops, the RedmiBook 13, 14, and 16 that feature AMD’s latest Ryzen 4000 series CPUs.

Specifications

The new RedmiBook lineup is the latest entry in the Chinese company’s thin and light laptop offerings and features powerful specifications. The entire series from the small 13 inch variant to the high end 16.1 inch variant feature AMD’s newest Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors. These chips are built on a 7nm fabrication process and are based on the company’s Zen 2 architecture. According to Xiaomi, these new processors will boost performance by up to 60 percent.

Users will be able to choose different variants that arrive with different Ryzen CPUs. In other words, people can opt for the more expensive Ryzen 7 4700U processor or the more budget friendly Ryzen 5 4500U processor on their laptops. The processors also arrive with an integrated GPU, Vega 7 for the high end chip, and Vega 6 for the mid range one. Both CPUs have a TDP of 15W, with the Ryzen 7 being an 8 core + 8 thread chip and the Ryzen 5 featuring 6 core + 6 threads.

Design and Battery

The lineup features a minimal aesthetic with a metallic finish. Apart from the screen sizes, the specifications of the display remain the same across the different models. The new RedmiBook series features a high screen to body ratio of 90.6 percent and a 100 percent sRGB wide color gamut, for a more vivid and accurate color display. The bezels around this display are quite negligible, coming in at just 3.26mm.

These laptops are all rounders with CPU modes catering to specific modes like office work, casual activities, and even gaming, with AMD’s RX Vega graphics. Furthermore, 16GB of RAM if offered on the high end model, and the battery is charged via a USB Type C charging port, which also supports quick charging as well. The 16 inch model has a 46Whr battery that lasts up to 12 hours and can charge up to 50 percent in just 38 minutes.

We are aware of Xiaomi unveiling Mi 10 Youth Edition and MIUI 12 on April 27 in China. Additionally, we also know the features of these products. The trademark listing was recently spotted on the website of Intellectual Property India that belongs to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, suggesting an imminent launch. Xiaomi fans finally get a reason to rejoice as the RedmiBook is expected to revamp cost-effective laptops in India.

Manu Kuma Jain, Xiaomi India Head and Global Vice President, in an interview back in 2018 had mentioned gaming laptops as part of the company’s product portfolio in India. Staying true to tradition, Xiaomi is expected to launch the RedmiBook 13 in May 2020 with different variants launching in the following months.

It flaunts a 2GB NVIDIA MX250 GPU and a Hurricane cooling setup with a custom wing fan connected to dual heat pipes. The setup ensures optimal thermal dissipation and silent operation.

Xiaomi incorporated a cross-platform file transfer system on the RedmiBook 13, known as Smart Connect. This works together with the Xiaomi Sensor Key rendering it capable of remote user authentication using devices like the Xiaomi Band 3. The network is connected to Mi Cloud services. The RedmiBook 13 runs on Windows 10 and has Microsoft Office Student Edition built-in. Using the charging adapter, the battery can be recharged up to 50% within 35 minutes. The device measures 307.3 x 195 x 17.8 mm and weighs 1.23 kg.

Xiaomi-backed Redmi had promised to launch four category of products at today’s launch event in China — laptop, router, smart speaker, and smartphones. As promised, the company has introduced new RedmiBook series.

The RedmiBook 13 is making its debut today and Lu Weibing, now Chairman of Xiaomi China, has emphasised that the device comes with narrow bezels on all four sides to offer full-screen experience to users.

As the name itself suggests, the RedmiBook 13 comes with a 13.3-inch Full HD+ display that offers 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. The company says that the size of the laptop is even smaller than that of A4-sized paper as it covers only 96 percent of A4 paper.

To make sure that the device remains cool even after heavy usage, the company has added an advanced cooling system. This new laptop from Redmi comes with a new hurricane cooling system which includes a wing fan and a built-in 6mm diameter double heat pipe, which increases the maximum heat transfer by 70 percent.

Further, the new RedmiBook 13 also comes with Xiaomi’s mutual transmission support which the company claims can achieve network-less transmission between PC and mobile phone as well as between PC and PC. The laptop is running on Microsoft Windows 10 Home operating system and comes with pre-installed Office Student edition.

Xiaomi‘s self-operated store on JD.com has started taking reservations for two new RedmiBook 13 products and the last date for the pre-booking is 12th December. This confirms that the new RedmiBook 13 devices will get launched in the company’s home market China on 12th December.
