The results showcased impressive results as the mobile processor managed to score over 28 percent higher than the last gen Ryzen 4700U. This chip was shipped with RedmiBook 14 that is currently available in the market, so it seems the company is offering a healthy boost in performance with the newer generation.

The laptop was benchmarked on Geekbench 5 and the performance was measured in the multi core test. The Lucienne Zen 2-based Ryzen 5000 APU arrives with a bump in performance along with an improvement with its integrated GPU and SMT support. Recently, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U has surfaced on numerous laptops from various brands on the platform, but the latest benchmark is for the RedmiBook Pro 14S from the Chinese OEM Xiaomi.

For those unaware, the Ryzen 7 5700U features 8 cores and 16 threads, which helped it achieve a score of 6,431 points over the 4700U’s 5,018 score. Unfortunately, this is just a benchmark so we have no way of confirming any particular specification of the laptop at the moment. Furthermore, we would have to wait for an official company announcement before providing any concrete statements either. However, with the Ryzen 5000 series being Team Red’s latest CPU lineup, we can expect laptops with the same generation to launch sometime in the first half of 2021.

Specifications

The new RedmiBook lineup is the latest entry in the Chinese company’s thin and light laptop offerings and features powerful specifications. The entire series from the small 13 inch variant to the high end 16.1 inch variant feature AMD’s newest Ryzen 4000 series mobile processors. These chips are built on a 7nm fabrication process and are based on the company’s Zen 2 architecture. According to Xiaomi, these new processors will boost performance by up to 60 percent.

Users will be able to choose different variants that arrive with different Ryzen CPUs. In other words, people can opt for the more expensive Ryzen 7 4700U processor or the more budget friendly Ryzen 5 4500U processor on their laptops. The processors also arrive with an integrated GPU, Vega 7 for the high end chip, and Vega 6 for the mid range one. Both CPUs have a TDP of 15W, with the Ryzen 7 being an 8 core + 8 thread chip and the Ryzen 5 featuring 6 core + 6 threads.

Design and Battery

The lineup features a minimal aesthetic with a metallic finish. Apart from the screen sizes, the specifications of the display remain the same across the different models. The new RedmiBook series features a high screen to body ratio of 90.6 percent and a 100 percent sRGB wide color gamut, for a more vivid and accurate color display. The bezels around this display are quite negligible, coming in at just 3.26mm.

In line with that, the RedmiBook 14 received approval from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), confirming that the device is indeed gearing up for an official launch in the market.

Now, it seems that the launch is around the corner. Tipster Ishan Agarwal claims that Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India MD and Xiaomi Global Vice President has said in an online meeting to retailers that the Redmi laptop will get launched in India as soon as possible.

However, there’s no timeline for the launch of the device or its availability revealed yet. But it confirms that the comment was for the laptops only from the brand and not any other device, such as Mi Pad.

While Manu Kumar Jain has not confirmed which laptop will get launched, it’s already known given that the RedmiBook 14 has already been certified in India. The BIS listing shows multiple variants of the same.

Along with the Redmi K20 series smartphones, the brand had launched the RedmiBook 14 in China in May last year. Later, the company had launched Enhanced Edition of the same as well as other variant with Ryzen processors.

Recently, the company updated its RedmiBook 14 Ryzen Edition in China that was first launched in October last year. It comes in two variants in terms of processor as some models pack an AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor while and others pack an AMD Ryzen 7 3700U processor. Both come bundled with 8/16 GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The laptop also packs support for a new feature — cross-brand file transfer feature. This was launched earlier this year in cooperation with Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo for transferring files between the devices from these brands. It can transfer files between laptops and smartphones without any file size limit at a blink of an eye.

The pricing for the RedmiBook 14 AMD Ryzen 5 8GB RAM + 512GB storage version starts at 3,299 yuan (approximately $464) and the top-end AMD Ryzen 7 16 GB RAM + 512GB storage version is priced at 3,999 yuan (approximately $563). As said, it remains to be seen which RedmiBook model will be made official in India.

At that time, it was speculated that the RedmiBook could be soon coming to India. It appears that the first ever Redmi laptop for India is finally nearing its launch as it has bagged approval from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The XMA1901-xx model number that has been spotted at the database of BIS by MobileScout matches with the RedmiBook 14. The BIS listing seems to show multiple variants of the RedmiBook 14. Last year in May, Redmi had launched the RedmiBook 14 in China alongside the Redmi K20 series. Its Enhanced Edition featuring 10th gen Intel processor and the Ryzen Edition were also made official later in the year.

The Chinese firm had also launched the RedmiBook 13 at the end of 2019 in the home market. There is no confirmation yet on whether India will be getting the RedmiBook 13, but it appears that the RedmiBook 14 may go official in the country in the near future. However, it is unclear which edition of the RedmiBook 14 could be coming to India.

The RedmiBook 14 that went official in May 2019 featured a metal body and it was powered by Intel Core i7 / Core i5 with NIVIDA GeForce MX250 graphics. The processor was accompanied by up 8 GB of RAM. The device was equipped with a 14-inch IPS LCD panel that produced full HD+ resolution. Since the screen sport slim bezels on all four sides, it delivered a screen space of 81.2 percent.

Now, the company has taken to Weibo to reveal more details about this upcoming RedmiBook. It confirms that the laptop will be powered by the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U chipset and the top-end model will pack AMD Ryzen 7 3700U processor.

The chipset is manufactured using the 12nm process and comes with a quad-core processor having eight threads. Currently, it is the most advanced computer chipset in the market from AMD.

Xiaomi has also claimed that with the launch of this RedmiBook Ryzen Edition, the company will be declaring war on the unreasonably high-priced premium laptops and aims to balance the price to performance ratio.

The Ryzen 5 3500U chipset comes with Radeon Vega 8 integrated graphics, making it a good low-cost budget solution for gaming. With its four cores and a maximal clock speed of 3.7GHz, it is a great processor for the home and office computing, with ability to easily run multiple apps simultaneously. It can also handle some more demanding stuff as well, such as video editing.

On the other hand, the Ryzen 7 3700U comes with a quad-core APU using AMD’s Zen+ cores, with simultaneous multi-threading enabled to bring the total thread count to eight. Although it uses a 3000-series model, it’s still built on the slightly older 12nm process. It has a maximum clock speed of 4GHz and Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics card with 10 CUs (640 Shaders) clocked at up to 1400MHz.

While the company has revealed the chipsets from AMD that will power this new upcoming RedmiBook, specifications and features of the device remains unknown. However, we expect most of the specs to be similar to the RedmiBook 14 launched a few months ago. The pricing of this AMD-powered laptop is expected to start around 3,500 Yuan (~$494).

The certification page was revealed by emerging tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore on Twitter. In detail, the official website of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has listed among its certified devices the new RedmiBook under a license number KZ000000223.

The website didn’t reveal any detail of the laptop but it sure confirms that Xiaomi might be finalizing plans for the launch of the RedmiBook 14 in Europe and that could also mean the global market. The new generation model starts at the same price as the first-generation RedmiBook 14 but offers the latest 10th generation i5 and i7 processor options. Naturally, given the competitive price tag, the RedmiBook 14 Enhanced edition has garnered tremendous popularity in China.

In fact, Redmi announced earlier today that the notebook has managed to receive over 1.5 million bookings for its first sale scheduled for September 6 across all sales channels in China. This is a pretty big deal considering the booking isn’t free. Only users who are ready to shell out 100 Yuan (~14) are eligible for the sale.

RedmiBook 14 Enhanced version’s popularity isn’t surprising. Starting at just 3999 Yuan ($557), the notebook offers the latest 10th generation Core i5 processor with 8GB RAM, 512GB Storage, and NVIDIA GeForce MX250 graphics. The top-end version comes with Core i7 for just 4999 Yuan (~$697). At this price, you get a 14-inch FULL HD anti-glare display with narrow bezels, HDMI and USB 3.0 ports, a large battery which can last up to 10 hours and fast charging which charges up to 50% in 35 minutes.

Unveiled back in May with an 8th Gen Intel processor, Redmi has now announced that it will launch a new version with a 10th Gen Intel processor on August 29.

The new RedmiBook 14 will come with a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. We do not know if this processor is one of the 10nm Ice Lake CPUs or one of the 14nm Comet lake CPUs that were announced last week. What we do know is that the 10th Gen RedmiBook 14 computer will cost more than the top-end model powered (Core i7 + 512GB SSD) by an 8th Gen processor which is priced at ¥4999 (~$704).

Other than a new CPU (and graphics card), the RedmiBook 14 with a 10th Gen Intel processor should look the same as the models powered by an 8th Gen Intel processor. So you get a PC with a 14-inch display and an 81.2% screen-to-body ratio, a full-sized keyboard, HDMI, USB 3.0, USB 2.0, and a 3.5mm audio jack. It should also come with Smart Unlock 2.0 which lets you unlock the PC using your Mi Band.

The new RedmiBook 14 will be announced alongside the Redmi Note 8, the Redmi Note 8 Pro, and the Redmi TV.

But those aren’t the only two products launching tomorrow. The Xiaomi subsidiary will also announce its first laptop – the RedmiBook 14, and it has just released the first official teaser for it.

The teaser poster was shared on the Weibo page and it shows a side view of the laptop. We can’t make out any features but the device does look thin. The caption doesn’t reveal any info too, not even the official name.

It has the model number XMA1901-** with several model variants which might mean international availability. The laptop’s specs have also leaked. It is expected to come with an Intel processor in Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7 configurations with 4GB/8GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of storage. The higher specced model is said to have NVIDIA’s GeForce MX250 GPU.

We not only have confirmation that that info is true, but we also know the device’s official name.

Just yesterday, a new Xiaomi product was listed on the Bluetooth SIG website. The product description says it is a laptop computer called the RedmiBook 14. From the name, we can deduce the laptop will have a 14-inch screen.

The RedmiBook 14’s model number is XMA1901-** with several variants which might mean availability outside China.
