<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> is all set to take its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/24/upcoming-smartphones-redmi-note-12-turbo-meizu-20-series-and-more/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">flagship smartphone</a> game to the next level with the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s24-ultra/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24 Ultra</a>. The South Korean tech giant is reportedly planning to introduce a 144Hz refresh rate display in its next year&#8217;s top-notch device, making it the first Galaxy device to feature such a high refresh rate.</p>

<p>The 144Hz refresh rate display will offer smoother animations, especially for gaming enthusiasts, and can bear higher and faster screen load while keeping up with speedy performance. Smartphone displays with faster refresh rates have become increasingly common in recent years, with some devices even boasting refresh rates as high as 240Hz.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full is-resized"><img loading="lazy" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra" class="wp-image-526294" width="1024" height="989" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra-300x290.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra-768x742.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra-696x672.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Galaxy-S23-Ultra-435x420.jpg 435w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra</figcaption></figure>

<p>According to recent reports, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s24/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24 series</a> could feature <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/satellite/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">satellite</a> connectivity, similar to what <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Apple</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei</a> currently offer. While Samsung has yet to introduce this feature to its mobile lineup, the head of the company&#8217;s MX (Mobile Experience) unit has indicated that it&#8217;s something they are actively considering.</p>

<p>In addition to these potential features, the Galaxy S24 series is expected to be powered by the unannounced <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/03/10/qualcomm-snapdragon-8-gen-3-leak/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC</a>, which could offer significantly improved performance over the previous generation. The X-4 High-Performance CPU core is said to be clocked up to 15% faster than the overclocked X-3 core used in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, resulting in even faster performance for the 2024 flagship series.</p>

<p>Camera improvements are also rumored to be in store for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/12/28/samsung-galaxy-s24-ultra-could-feature-an-upgraded-telephoto-camera/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">improved 200MP image sensor expected</a> for the primary camera and enhanced zooming capabilities for the telephoto camera. Of course, it&#8217;s worth noting that these are all just rumors at this point, and we won&#8217;t know for sure what the Galaxy S24 series will offer until closer to its release.</p>

<p>Despite the lack of concrete details, the buzz around the Galaxy S24 series is already building, with many consumers eagerly anticipating what Samsung has in store for its next flagship line.</p>

The handset was the high end version of the base <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmi-k30/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">K30</a> and featured top notch specs at a lucrative price, similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi-redmi-k20-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Redmi K20 Pro</a>. However, many were left disappointed after learning that the display was only a 60Hz panel, despite the base variant having a 120Hz display. But now, developers have bumped up the refresh rate to 80Hz via a software tweak.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-312900 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207.png?x10805" alt="" width="1151" height="244" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207.png 1151w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207-300x64.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207-768x163.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207-1024x217.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207-696x148.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Screenshot-207-1068x226.png 1068w" sizes="(max-width: 1151px) 100vw, 1151px" /></p>
<p>Keep in mind this tweak is unofficial. In other words, users will void their warranties on their devices if they use this unofficial software tweak. For those unaware, a display can be slightly overclocked similar to a processor&#8217;s core frequency. However, this greatly reduces the life span of the panel and may eventually cause it to stop functioning optimally or break down entirely.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/03/26/qualcomm-qcc514x-qcc304x-announced/">Qualcomm launches QCC514x and QCC304x for TWS earbuds with integrated noise cancellation</a></strong></h6>
<p>Furthermore, to actually be able to boost the Redmi K30 Pro&#8217;s refresh rate, one would have to root their device. A Redmi official has commented on this software tweak calling it unofficial and will cause warranties to be voided. He even stated that this requires a root and is risky, so users are advised against trying out the software. Previously, a few developers had also managed to overclock the screen of the Xiaomi Mi 9 to 80Hz as well, up from the official 60Hz.</p>

The primary two being battery life and the choice between a high refresh rate or screen quality. The company chose the latter option and decided to include a better quality display over the base K30 but at 60Hz to preserve the battery performance of the smartphone. Hence, those that wish to still overclock their Redmi K30 Pro displays, should only do so knowing the risks of stability issues and voiding warranty.</p>

<p>If you click on the link, it takes you to a page that automatically detects the refresh rate of your device. You get something like the image above if you visit it on your PC. However, opening the link on your mobile results in the second image below. Yeah, thanks POCO for reminding me my phone is due for an upgrade!</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-302367" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-refresh-rate-mobile.jpg?x10805" alt="POCO X2 refresh rate mobile" width="410" height="750" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-refresh-rate-mobile.jpg 410w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-refresh-rate-mobile-164x300.jpg 164w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-refresh-rate-mobile-230x420.jpg 230w" sizes="(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px" /></p>
<p>The POCO X2 will have a display with a high refresh rate and since the phone is a rebranded <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-redmi-k30/">Redmi K30</a>, it means it has a 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>POCO has also teased the phone will come with a Sony IMX686 (64MP) main camera and will have 6 cameras in total (four quad cameras and a dual front-facing camera).</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-302373" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-camera.png?x10805" alt="POCO X2 camera" width="722" height="465" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-camera.png 722w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-camera-300x193.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-camera-696x448.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/POCO-X2-camera-652x420.png 652w" sizes="(max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px" /></p>
<p>The teaser page also reveals the POCO X2 will have a Snapdragon processor (Snapdragon 730G) inside, liquid cooling, and fast charging. An image of the bottom of the phone further confirms it is a rebranded Redmi K30. Below is the bottom of the POCO X2 (left) alongside that of the Redmi K30 (right). And of course, we now know it will come in gold.</p>
