The teaser suggests that the next-generation ROG Phone will be sporting an improved display design. A tipster from China recently revealed that the battery capacity and fast charging capabilities of the ROG Phone 4. Now, a Weibo user has shared a live shot of the smartphone to reveal its rear design.

The tipster who shared the live shot of the new ROG Phone has claimed that the device could be called ROG Phone 5. The reason behind it is the presence of number 05 at the center of the back panel. This suggests that the Taiwanese company may skip the number 4 to launch its next gaming phone as the ROG Phone 5.

The design language of the alleged ROG Phone 5 is not very different from its predecessor models. However, the ROG brand logo is now placed at the bottom-left corner of the back panel. There is a red-colored button on the lower-right corner of the phone’s frame. It could be a one-click key to enter the game mode. At the top is a horizontal camera module that houses a 64-megapixel main camera that is equipped with quad-Bayer technology.

There is no confirmation of the authenticity of the image. Hence, it is advisable to wait for newer reports to know about its exact design. The rumor mill is yet to leak concrete information on the specs of the phone.

All that is known so far is that the ROG Phone 5 could be packed with a 6,000mAh battery. The handset is likely to arrive with support for 65W fast charging. It goes without saying that it could be powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC. It is likely that the phone may launch as early as next month.

Now, a leak has revealed that ASUS will once again go with a 6000mAh battery capacity for the ROG Phone 4.

Just a few flagship phones have a battery capacity of 5000mAh, so 6000mAh is more than sufficient for the ROG Phone 4. We also don’t see that battery capacity changing anytime soon. Seeing as battery capacity has remained unchanged over three generations, ASUS has decided to go with faster charging as the way to distinguish between the phones.

According to Digital Chat Station, the ROG Phone 4 will support 60W or 65W fast (wired) charging. This should allow users to recharge the dual-cell 6000mAh battery faster than its predecessor, the ROG Phone 3, which supports 30W fast wired charging.

EDITOR’S PICK: ASUS confirms no Android 10 update for ROG Phone

When compared to other competing gaming smartphones that will also be launched this year such as the Black Shark 4 and Red Magic 6, the ROG 4’s 60W/65W fast charging is much slower than their 120W fast wired charging. However, its battery capacity is significantly higher than theirs which is just 4500mAh.

The ROG Phone 4 should also support reverse wired charging, Quick Charge 4, and Power Delivery. The phone is expected to arrive this quarter, which is at least four months earlier than the ROG Phone 3.

Just like other flagship phones, the ROG Phone 4 will have a Snapdragon 888 processor under its hood and support for 5G. Its AMOLED display is also expected to have a refresh rate of 144Hz or higher and it should run Android 11 out of the box.

A teaser released by the brand through its Weibo account reveals that its next gaming phone will offer an upgraded experience.

ASUS has not revealed the name of its next ROG phone in the new teaser. Last month, an ASUS phone with model number ASUS_I005DA was spotted at Geekbench 5. Since the model number of the ROG Phone 3 is ASUS_I003D, it was speculated that the ASUS_I005DA handset could be debuting as the ROG Phone 5. It is advisable to wait for further reports to know whether the upcoming ROG handset will be called ROG Phone 4 or ROG Phone 5.

‘Coming back to the teaser, the poster suggests that except for the slightly thick chin, it will be sporting slimmer bezels on the other three sides of the display. The ROG Phone 3 offered a screen-to-body ratio of 19.5:9. Hopefully, the successor model will offer a taller aspect ratio. The Geekbench listing of the alleged ROG phone had revealed that it is equipped with the Snapdragon 888 mobile platform and 8 GB of RAM. The phone was found to be running on Android 11 OS.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 Specifications

The ROG Phone 3 came with specs like 6.59-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen, Snapdragon 865+ chipset, 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, and a 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support. For photography, it featured a 24-megapixel front camera and a 64-megmapixel + 13-megapixel + 5-megpaixel triple camera system.

A new ASUS phone with a similar model number ASUS_I005DA has appeared on Geekbench. Also, the ASUS_I005DA and ASUS_I005DB model numbers have appeared at the HTML5 test page. The newly spotted phone could be the successor to the ROG Phone 3.

Ideally, the successor model of the ROG Phone 3 should have an ASUS_I004D model number. However, instead of the number “4”, the model number has “5” in it. This suggests that it may break cover as the ROG Phone 5.

Various smartphone OEMs are known for skipping the number “4” in the model numbers and monikers of their devices as it is considered a bad omen in some Asian countries.
The ROG Phone 4’s Geekbench listing reveals that it is powered by a Qualcomm chipset, which is codenamed Lahaina. The codename is associated with the Snapdragon 888 5G mobile platform. The SoC is coupled with 8 GB of RAM and it is preloaded with Android 11 OS. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench 5, the handset scored 1081 and 3584 points, respectively.

The ROG Phone 2v was announced in July 2019 and it was replaced by the ROG Phone 3 in July this year. Hence, it is too early to talk about its successor model.
