AMD just unveiled a game-changer for industrial AI: the Ryzen 8000 series embedded processors. These processors are the first to integrate a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) built on AMD’s XDNA architecture, specifically designed to handle demanding workloads in industrial Artificial Intelligence applications.

The Ryzen 8000 uses Zen 4 CPU, RDNA 3 GPU and a new XDNA Neural Processing Unit.

The Ryzen 8000 series boasts impressive specs. Built on a cutting-edge 4nm process, it combines Zen 4 CPU architecture, RDNA 3 architecture GPU, and the all-new XDNA architecture NPU. This powerhouse delivers a staggering 39 TOPS of AI computing power, with the NPU itself contributing a significant 16 TOPS.

But muscle doesn’t stop at AI. The Ryzen 8000 series packs additional features; 20 lanes of high-speed PCIe Gen 4 connectivity ensures efficient data transfer, and support for dual-channel DDR5 5600 memory with error correction (ECC) keeps things running smoothly. The machines can drive stunning visuals with the ability to power four independent 4K displays. Hardware decoding and encoding for popular video codecs like AV1, H.264, and H.265 makes video processing a breeze.

To cater to diverse needs, the Ryzen 8000 series comes in four distinct models. To foster a strong ecosystem around these processors, AMD is collaborating with embedded Original Design Manufacturer (ODM) partners like Advantech, ASRock, and iBASE. AMD Confirms Ryzen 8000 Series: Next-Gen Desktop Processors to Feature Zen 5 CPU and Navi 3.5 Graphics

AMD has confirmed that it will release its next generation of Ryzen processors in 2024. The Ryzen 8000 series will use the new Zen 5 architecture and Navi 3.5 graphics. The chips will be codenamed “Granite Ridge” and will feature up to 16 CPU cores. The Navi 3.5 GPU will be a die shrink of Navi 3, which will improve clock speed and efficiency.

The Ryzen 8000 series will be a significant upgrade over the current Ryzen 7000 series. The Zen 5 CPU cores are expected to offer a 15% performance boost over Zen 4, while the Navi 3.5 GPU is expected to offer a 20% performance boost over Navi 3. This will make the Ryzen 8000 series the most powerful AMD desktop processors to date. AMD has not yet announced any specific pricing or availability information for the Ryzen 8000 series. However, it is expected to be released in 2024. AMD has also confirmed that the AM5 socket will be supported until 2026.

AMD’s backward compatibility policy is one of the company’s greatest secrets to success. In the past, Intel was changing the socket almost every new generation of processors, which forced users to purchase a new motherboard along with the CPU.
