It delivered on that promise this week when it launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-5g/">Galaxy Z Fold3</a> with S Pen support, and just like the S21 Ultra, this too has support for two types of S Pens.</p>

<p>There is the S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro which was revealed earlier this year but just launched this week. If you are wondering how the two styluses differ, then you are at the right place.</p>
<h5></h5>
<h5><strong>S Pen Fold Edition</strong></h5>
<p>The S Pen Fold Edition is designed to work <strong>only</strong> with the Galaxy Z Fold3. This is because of its nib that has been specially designed to work with the foldable display of the phone.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-405971" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/S-Pen-Fold-Edition.png?x10805" alt="S Pen Fold Edition" width="462" height="543" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/S-Pen-Fold-Edition.png 462w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/S-Pen-Fold-Edition-255x300.png 255w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/S-Pen-Fold-Edition-357x420.png 357w" sizes="(max-width: 462px) 100vw, 462px" /></p>
<p>The stylus has a slim 1.5mm pen tip and a built-in spring that takes the impact when you press it against the display. It has 4096 pressure levels and also has support for Air Command. The S Pen Fold Edition doesn&#8217;t have Bluetooth, so there is no need to pair it with the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G. This also means that you can&#8217;t use it as a remote for the phone. It also doesn&#8217;t have a battery, thus doesn&#8217;t need to be charged.</p>
<p>The S Pen Fold Edition weighs 6.7 grams and measures 132.1 mm in length and 7.7mm in diameter.</p>

<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h5><strong>S Pen Pro</strong></h5>
<p>The S Pen Pro works with most Samsung devices (phones, tablets, and computers) that have support for the S Pen including the new Galaxy Z Fold3. It is not only longer and thicker at 173.64 millimeters and 9.5 millimeters respectively but also weighs more than double the S Pen Fold Edition at 13.8 grams.</p>
<p>It has Bluetooth for connecting to not just one device but multiple devices with support for seamless switching between devices. Owners will even be able to copy, cut, and paste across devices (phone to tablet to PC) provided they are logged in to the same Samsung account, on the same Wi-Fi network, and have Bluetooth and Continue turned on.</p>

<p>Last but not least is the price tag. The S Pen Pro is priced at $99.99, double the $49.99 price of the S Pen Fold Edition.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-405556 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-3.png?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="692" height="525" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-3.png 692w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-3-300x228.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-3-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-3-554x420.png 554w" sizes="(max-width: 692px) 100vw, 692px" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant has also launched the S Pen Fold Edition that was designed specifically for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Although, the foldable phone is also compatible with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/s-pen-pro/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">S Pen Pro</a>. But using the device with any other S Pen can damage its foldable screen. Using a regular S Pen can cause permanent physical damage on the Galaxy Z Fold 3&#8217;s screen due to the design of its tip.</p>
<p>This information arrives despite the Fold 3 using a new protective film that Samsung claims raises durability by 80 percent over the previous generation.  As stated previously, the issue lies with the tip design on the regular S Pen. The new S Pen Fold Edition and the S Pen Pro feature Pro Tips, which is lacking in the base models.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-405397 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692.png?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="1157" height="859" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692.png 1157w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-300x223.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-768x570.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-1024x760.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-485x360.png 485w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-696x517.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-1068x793.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Untitled9692-566x420.png 566w" sizes="(max-width: 1157px) 100vw, 1157px" /></p>
<p>These new tips are softer than the regular ones but their most important aspect is the <span class="post-body">retractable mechanism</span> for the tip.  This prevents the tip from damaging the foldable screen when pressure is applied during use. So, even if somehow one manages to pair the S Pen with the Fold 3, one can potentially damage their 1,800 US Dollar foldable smartphone.</p>

<p>A few of the teasers, leaks, and renders indicated that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will have a traditional S Pen stylus attached to it. However, there have also been some suggestions that it will also support the more extensive and more versatile S Pen Pro. A product filing by Samsung for the S Pen Pro at the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has now shown that the Galaxy Z Fold will have the S Pen Pro.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&amp;RequestTimeout=500&amp;calledFromFrame=N&amp;application_id=PQFsmd5Fd6mroqLRXdITpA%3D%3D&amp;fcc_id=A3LEJP5450" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FCC document</a> was just made public and could indicate an imminent launch of the S Pen Pro stylus, which will have Bluetooth connectivity and charges via USB-C. The specific release date of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/17/samsung-to-launch-s-pen-pro-for-the-galaxy-s21-ultra-later-this-year/">S Pen Pro</a> is not specified, although it is projected to debut in some of Samsung’s devices slated for unveiling this year. According to the FCC filing, the S Pen Pro will also support the Galaxy S21 Ultra, the Note 20 lineup, Note 10 Lite, Tab S7 series, and other devices that support One UI 3.1 or later.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/S-Pen-Pro-z-fold-3-fcc.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-399679" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/S-Pen-Pro-z-fold-3-fcc.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Z Fold 3 FCC S Pen Pro support" width="248" height="540" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/S-Pen-Pro-z-fold-3-fcc.jpg 248w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/S-Pen-Pro-z-fold-3-fcc-138x300.jpg 138w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/S-Pen-Pro-z-fold-3-fcc-193x420.jpg 193w" sizes="(max-width: 248px) 100vw, 248px" /></a></p>
<p>In line with its tradition for some time, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is slated for August, and some big announcements involving some of Samsung’s flagship and other products lineup could be made. A tipster has already predicted August 11 as the date for the Galaxy Unpacked event, which would herald the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and other devices, including the Z Flip 3, Galaxy Watches, and Galaxy buds.</p>
<p>The Galaxy Z Fold 3 offers some innovative technologies that Samsung hopes will place the device on the higher echelon among its peers when it is eventually unveiled.</p>

It also doesn&#8217;t have the same features as the S Pen of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-20-5g/">Galaxy Note 20</a> series. <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> says a bigger stylus called the S Pen Pro with more features will arrive for the new flagship later this year.</p>
<p>The S Pen Pro is much bigger than the S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. It actually looks like the Apple Pencil in black. Some have said that it is just the S Pen of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-tab-s7/">Galaxy Tab S7</a> in black but it appears that is not the case.</p>
<figure id="attachment_366093" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-366093" style="width: 826px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-366093 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1.png?x10805" alt="S Pen and S Pen Pro for the Galaxy S21 Ultra" width="826" height="485" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1.png 826w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1-300x176.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1-768x451.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1-696x409.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/S-Pen-and-S-Pen-Pro-for-the-Galaxy-S21-Ultra-1-715x420.png 715w" sizes="(max-width: 826px) 100vw, 826px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-366093" class="wp-caption-text">S Pen and S Pen Pro for the Galaxy S21 Ultra</figcaption></figure>
<p>The S Pen for the Galaxy S21 Ultra doesn&#8217;t have Bluetooth and also doesn&#8217;t have air gestures but the S Pen Pro will have these features. Seeing as Samsung says that you can use the S Pen available with its other devices on the Galaxy S21 Ultra, you would think Bluetooth and air gesture feature of the S Pen of the Galaxy Note 20 will carry over the S21 Ultra, right? No. You only get the same basic functions as the standard S Pen.</p>
<p>What this means is that if you want these extra features, you will have to purchase the S Pen Pro. Samsung says it will arrive later this year but did not reveal the price. The stylus will also not have a special phone case where users can store it based on its size.</p>
