Not unless Google and Huawei are able to convince the US government otherwise, of course. With the stakes that high, Huawei was repeatedly been reported to be preparing a Plan B operating system for its future phones.

While the ARK OS that has been mentioned in the past may still be based on Android, a new report suggests that Huawei is also looking into using a Russian-made version of Jolla’s Sailfish OS. Aurora OS is a Russian-made mobile operating system based on the open-source Sailfish OS Linux distribution developed by Finnish company Jolla.

Editor’s Pick: Xiaomi Mi Band 4 Goes Up for Pre-Order on Giztop

Sailfish isn’t the most popular mobile operating system out there; in fact, it doesn’t show up on the radar of Android versus iOS. However, its focus on privacy and security has won over many users. Based on Nokia’s and Intel’s aborted MeeGo OS, Sailfish uses an almost completely different software stack. To date, very few commercially available phones have shipped with Sailfish OS.

Huawei is allegedly already testing Aurora on a few of its devices. Switching to a non-Android OS would be a risky move, though, considering how important app support is for the average consumer. That’s why we’re seeing Huawei reach out to app developers to publish on its AppGallery app store, and why the company is exploring Aptoide as a Play Store alternative. Completely foregoing Android is likely a last resort for the company.

UP NEXT: Xiaomi Mi Band 4 officially launched with AMOLED color Display & Cheap Price tag

At the product failed to rival Android, the company is now shifting its focus towards 4G feature phones.

The company has announced that the new Sailfish OS will soon be compatible with a bunch of new devices including the Sony Xperia XA2, the upcoming Gemini PDA, and a tablet from Russian brand Inoi. In addition, it will support feature phones later this year.

The Sailfish OS 3 from Finnish firm Jolla will be available for adoption in Q3 2018. The company claims that this new Sailfish 3 is 30 percent faster than its predecessor and comes with better security features and options. It comes with options such as fingerprint sensor, remote lock and wipe, just in case the device is stolen or lost. There’s also an option to encrypt data and communication through integrated VPN.

Further, the system also supports full cloud integration, ensuring that user’s data will be automatically synced, allowing them to take backup or access them on other devices. Sailfish 3 will also support 4G and VoLTE calling, enabling users to take advantage of faster 4G speeds.

In order to make the operating system more user-friendly, the company has adopted several changes in the user interface as well as for some pre-loaded apps such as email and calendar. It now comes with a redesigned top menu which has a dedicated section for settings and actions. Jolla claims to have improved the multi-tasking section and adds that the feature will help users switch between apps faster.

It will offer some “core” native apps alongside a special app store and compatibility with a selection of Android apps. There will also be a feature phone version of the system, which will support non-touch phones with numerical keyboards and directional control pads.

The company will be facing tough competition from Android One and Android Go initiative, which is basically a stripped down variant of the Google‘s Android operating system aimed at improving performance of low-end devices.

As same as Android OS, Jolla Sailfish OS is the open source mobile operating system, this OS can be used freely for public. And now Jolla has been launch officially the stable version of Sailfish OS for LG Nexus 4 smartphone.

The LG Nexus 4 user can port the Sailfish OS to their phone is very easy, the trick is same as porting the custom ROM to the Android phone. If you want to porting the Sailfish OS to Nexus 4, the phone must be rooted and running CyanogenMod 10.1.1.

And then, you can download the Sailfish OS at http://releases.sailfishos.org/sfa-ea/sailfishos-mako-release-1.0.4.20-EA1.zip this file is contain 354Mb of file size.

This is the early version of Sailfish OS, so it may has some bugs and lacks of features, so there is no calling featuresm no Bluettoth support, no alarm function, while the phone can’t take the video due the camera is not work and the sensor is off too.

But Jolla is trying to keep update this version to work with Nexus 4 smartphone in the future.

You just might want to make a nandroid backup of your device using CWM, TWRP, or a similar tool first so you can restore it to its previous state when you’re done poking around…. just don’t expect it to replace Android as your primary operating system just yet.

Diego has also signed a distribution deal with a retailer D.Phone. They are also looking for a partner online for direct sales to consumers. Jolla is also having discussions with several candidates for hardware partners as well as other cellular operator partners.
