When it comes to noise-cancelling headphones, Sony’s WH-1000XM3 is perhaps the top contender for the best option available. But Samsung is hoping to wrestle that position from Sony with the launch of the AKG Y600 NC headphones with active noise cancellation alongside the Y400 headphones.

The Y600 NC offers 25 hours of wireless battery life with noise cancellation turned on and will offer 4 hours playback from a ten-minute charge. Two hours is required for a full charge over the USB-C connection.

Apart from noise cancellation, the headphones have smart ambient aware modes that can let external sound in through the mic along with your tunes (perfect for, say, when zooming around on an electric scooter), as well as a TalkThru option that will automatically dip the volume of your tunes when the headphones recognise you’re having a conversation. Music will automatically pause when you take off the headphones and resume when you replace them.

The over-ears feature memory foam cups and protein leather ear cushions. They also have some built-in savvy hardware controls too such as wind an ear cup to increase the volume, and double-tap the physical play button for voice assistant access, which supports Bixby and Google Assistant on Android, and Siri on iOS devices.

Weighing 322g, the headsets feature 40mm drivers and offer a frequency response range of 10Hz – 24kHz.

Samsung AKG Y400

The compact headphones are on instead of over-ears and are intended for comfort, weighing simply 170g. Offering 20-hour battery life, you’ll get 4 hours from a brief charge over USB-C. The headphones also come with the volume controlled by the earcups, as well as auto-play and pause. There is also ambient aware and TalkThru modes.

The Y400 features a 36mm driver and 20Hz to 20kHz response range.

The headphones are already available on Samsung UK store and will be sold by retail partners as well. Here are the prices;
