Samsung reveals all its TVs and chargers will use near-zero standby power by 2025

Samsung Electronics, with its pre-show keynote at CES 2022, pledged to build a green and sustainable future, announcing that it had last year produced Carbon Trust Standard-compliant chips that helped cut carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 700,000 metric tons. The initiative is part of the Samsung ‘Together for Tomorrow’ Vision.

Samsung’s Visual Display Business plans to use 30 times more recycled plastics than it did in 2021. Also revealed were plans to expand its use of recycled materials over the next three years, including all mobile products and home appliances.

In addition, the company plans to make all of its TVs and phone chargers use near-zero standby power by 2025, meaning they’ll not be consuming any energy when not in use.

Samsung also revealed that in 2021, all of the packaging for its TVs used recyclable materials. In 2022, it will expand the application of recycled materials to cover the inner packaging of cartons. The company also promised to use similar packaging material with its home appliances in the future.

E-waste is another major challenge for the tech industry and Samsung says it has done its bit by actively recycling e-waste since 2009. Today, the collection stands at 5 million metric tons.

Last but not the least, Samsung Electronics dropped some profitability figures for Q4 2021, stating with a press release revealing that its consolidated operating profit stood at approximately 13.8 trillion Korean won or around $11.5 billion. Consolidated sales, on the other hand, totaled 76 trillion Korean won approx. or around $63 billion. Detailed earnings will be made available on January 27th.

With CES 2022 being underway, various companies have been showcasing their latest innovations and breakthroughs in technologies. Samsung is one of these brands and has already unveiled a number of new products like TVs during the major event. Now, the company has also announced a new curved monitor as well, and it is beautiful!

The new monitor in question is the South Korean tech giant’s 55 inch Odyssey Ark. During the CES 2022 announcement, the company revealed that it sports a 16:9 aspect ratio and is designed to be used both vertically and horizontally as well, thanks to its specially designed stand. Furthermore, the curved monitor also features new multi view adaptable screen functionality, which allows users to shift the screen size to the content being displayed.

In other words, it can shift based on the movie or video game being played. Unfortunately, Samsung did not reveal any finer details regarding the monitor that resembles a crescent moon. So, we have no information regardings its panel, display resolution, refresh rate, and other such key details. But from what we can observe, it is likely targeted towards professionals and gamers alike.

The company added that the 55 inch Odyssey Ark will go on sale in the second half of this year in the US. However, it did not reveal availability for any other regions. Samsung unveils new radio waves powered Eco Remotes in CES 2022

In recent years, Samsung has actively been working on making its TV remotes more and more eco friendly. Now, the company has unveiled its latest Eco Remotes that can draw power from radio waves.

During CES 2022, the South Korean tech giant unveiled the 2022 Eco Remotes. Last year, the brand had featured a large solar panel on these remotes, and now, we have a new way of charging these remotes. The TV controllers can apparently harvest radio frequencies, which sounds quite futuristic. Notably, these remote will still feature solar panels but it will also be powered by radio waves as well. Although, the amount would be small.

The radio frequencies that will help charge the remote include radio waves like your WiFi router. According to Samsung, drawing power from radio frequencies will allow the remote to charge fully while you’re watching TV. In other words, it can passively harvest RF to power up regardless of whether it is day or night. This also hints that it can possibly run for a longer time than previous iterations.

The company further added that will be made with a “recycled material design,” similar to its predecessors. This latest model will also be available in a new white color variant and retains its minimalist design. It even houses a microphone for voice controls along with shortcuts for Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Price Video, and Samsung’s TV Plus as well. This new remote will ship with all of its 2022 TV lineups.

Samsung MX: The new name of the South Korean tech giant’s mobile division

Earlier this week, Samsung announced its plans to merge the Mobile Communication division with the consumer electronics division with vice-chairman and co-CEO Han Jong-hee at its helm.

Now, Samsung announced that it is renaming this newly merged division. As of now, Samsung’s phone-making business will be called Samsung MX, for Mobile Experience.

The company further announced that this transition, made on December 10, is effective immediately, and the new name will be used from now on in all official communication from the company. The press release revealed that the renaming to Samsung MX was necessary to emphasize the new direction that the company will be taking with its mobile business, namely a larger focus on the user experience, the services, and building a wholesome ecosystem that goes beyond its otherwise excellent phone hardware.

“We’re excited to announce the renaming of our business after decades of innovation and leadership in the mobile industry. We believe this name change will help us usher in a new era in mobile innovations where we can create even more exciting possibilities for Galaxy users.” said TM Roh, the new President and head of the MX business.

Other than this reveal, Samsung also announced that it will participate in CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2022 expo in Las Vegas, with a keynote scheduled for January 4, at 18:30 Pacific time. According to previous rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is expected to be released at CES 2022.

Samsung harvests over 40 awards from the CES 2022 Innovation Awards

The 2022 CES Awards will be held in person after the online versions occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic. Global tech giant Samsung will be headlining the January 4 event with a haul of over 40 individual product awards. In what seems like a Samsung-organized event, the company’s Head of its Visual Display Business, Jong-Hee Han will be delivering the pre-show keynote speech. The Samsung haul of awards includes four that won Best of Innovation accolades in their categories.

The Bespoke edition Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 won is the Best of Innovation Award winner, while the similarly impressive Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 nicked the award in the Digital Imaging/ Photography and Mobile Devices & Accessories categories. In the Computer Hardware & Components category, the Samsung Galaxy Book Pro 360 laptop dusted the field. Other Samsung products and components that got wins included the ISOCELL HP1 (the first 200MP image sensor for smartphones), the Galaxy Z Fold3, the Galaxy Watch4 series, and the Galaxy Buds2, and the Samsung SmartTag+.

The very impressive haul of awards in the CES 2022 underscores the Korean company’s continued pursuit of innovation and excellence, sometimes miles ahead of its competitors. The impressive debut of the Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy ZFlip3 with foldable displays are just a few of the innovations in the Samsung brand.

The awards span a wide array of product classes including home appliances, smartphones, PCs, and other electronic devices and components.
