Foldable smartphones have reached a new level in 2026, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 and OPPO Find N6 are leading the race. Samsung focuses on refinement, long-term software support, and productivity, while OPPO pushes the limits with larger displays, faster charging, and a more versatile camera system. Here’s a detailed comparison to find out which premium foldable delivers the better overall experience and value.

Major Features:

Design and Display

Build and Feel

Samsung continues to refine its foldable design with a premium Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3 protection, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy Z Fold8 feels polished and durable while offering Samsung’s mature hinge mechanism and long-term reliability. OPPO, however, takes a different approach by using an aircraft-grade aluminium frame, a Grade 5 titanium alloy hinge, Nanocrystal Glass, and stronger IP58/IP59 protection against dust and water. The inclusion of stylus support on both displays and the almost invisible crease gives the Find N6 a more futuristic feel. Samsung focuses on refinement, while OPPO pushes hardware innovation a little further.

Display Quality

The Galaxy Z Fold8 offers a vibrant Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with HDR10+, a 120Hz refresh rate, and an impressive 3,000-nit peak brightness. Its cover display is equally smooth and sharp. The OPPO Find N6 counters with a much larger LTPO OLED display featuring Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR Vivid, 1 billion colours, and an excellent Zero-Feel crease. The larger cover display also feels closer to using a regular flagship phone. Samsung’s display excels in brightness, but OPPO delivers a more immersive viewing experience overall.

Verdict

Samsung wins for display brightness and proven durability, while OPPO offers the more versatile and feature-rich foldable experience. Overall, the Find N6 slightly edges ahead thanks to its larger screens, stylus support, and premium display technologies.

Specifications Including Battery

Performance

Both foldables are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset paired with the Adreno 840 GPU, making either device capable of handling demanding gaming, multitasking, AI workloads, and productivity tasks. Samsung pairs the processor with One UI 9 based on Android 17 and promises seven major Android upgrades, making it one of the strongest long-term software commitments in the industry. OPPO runs ColorOS 16 with faster UFS 4.1 storage, delivering excellent responsiveness, although its software support remains less extensive. Samsung’s software ecosystem, DeX support, and optimisation provide a more polished experience for productivity-focused users.

Battery and Charging

Battery performance clearly favours the OPPO Find N6. Its 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery comfortably exceeds Samsung’s 4,800mAh unit while supporting 80W wired, 50W wireless, reverse wireless, and reverse wired charging. Samsung offers respectable 45W wired, 20W wireless, and reverse wireless charging, but charging speeds feel conservative for a premium flagship. Those who value quick top-ups and longer endurance are likely to appreciate OPPO’s approach.

Verdict

Samsung delivers stronger software longevity and productivity features, whereas OPPO provides superior battery life and significantly faster charging. The Find N6 offers a better overall hardware package in this category.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

Samsung keeps things relatively simple with a dual-camera setup featuring a 50MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultrawide camera capable of recording up to 8K video. Image processing is expected to remain one of Samsung’s strengths, producing reliable colours and consistent results across lighting conditions. OPPO raises the bar with a versatile triple-camera system consisting of a 200MP main sensor, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera enhanced by Hasselblad colour tuning. Although Samsung supports 8K recording, OPPO’s additional telephoto camera and more flexible focal lengths make it the more capable photography system for everyday use.

Selfie Camera

Samsung includes dual 10MP front cameras for the inner and cover displays, offering good video quality up to 4K 60fps. OPPO upgrades both selfie cameras to 20MP sensors, delivering higher-resolution images with reliable HDR performance. Users who frequently attend video calls or capture selfies may find OPPO’s cameras more appealing.

Verdict

Samsung delivers dependable imaging and excellent video recording, but OPPO provides greater versatility, stronger zoom capabilities, and higher-resolution selfie cameras. The Find N6 stands out as the better all-around camera phone.

Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 is priced around $1,900 (₹180,000), placing it firmly among the most premium foldable smartphones available. That pricing is supported by Samsung’s seven-year software commitment, mature foldable ecosystem, DeX desktop mode, and strong after-sales network. The OPPO Find N6 is priced around $1,800 (₹160,000), making it slightly more affordable despite offering a larger display, faster charging, a bigger battery, stylus compatibility, and a more versatile triple-camera system. The lower price makes OPPO particularly attractive for buyers prioritising hardware value.

Is the Price Justified?

Samsung’s premium pricing is justified for users seeking long-term software support and ecosystem integration. OPPO, however, delivers more flagship hardware for less money, making it feel like the stronger value proposition in pure specifications.

Verdict

Samsung remains an excellent premium investment, but OPPO offers noticeably better value for money considering its richer hardware package and lower asking price.

Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, launch timing, and applicable taxes. Always check whether the listed price is for a China unit or a global/international variant when purchasing.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 shines with its refined One UI experience, seven years of Android upgrades, Samsung DeX desktop mode, Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, and an exceptionally bright foldable display. These features make it particularly appealing for business users and those planning to keep their device for several years.

OPPO Find N6 focuses on cutting-edge hardware by offering a larger foldable display, stylus support on both screens, a virtually crease-free folding panel, a titanium hinge, a powerful 200MP Hasselblad-tuned camera system, faster storage, a larger silicon-carbon battery, and significantly quicker charging. Satellite connectivity on the 1TB model further adds to its premium appeal.

Samsung feels more mature from a software perspective, while OPPO delivers a stronger showcase of foldable hardware innovation.

Verdict

Choose the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 if long-term software updates, productivity tools, and ecosystem integration matter most. Choose the OPPO Find N6 if the priority is getting the best hardware, better cameras, larger displays, longer battery life, and faster charging for less money. Overall, the OPPO Find N6 emerges as the better-value premium foldable, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 remains the safer long-term investment.

When foldable phones made their entrance, there was skepticism if the phones will enjoy a seamless run considering their fragility and expensive prices. The issues with the first-gen Galaxy Z Fold from Samsung didn’t help matters as it further heightened doubts about the ability of foldable phones to make a mark in the market. The steep pricing and fragility contributed to TCL’s decision to shelve its own foldable phone project.

Well, turns out the foldable models are doing incredibly well in the market, exceeding expectations. A research report published by the screen agency DSCC pointed out that in the third quarter of this year, the total shipments of foldable display-packing mobile phones increased by 215% month-on-month and 480% year-on-year.

In terms of brands, Samsung’s shipment accounted for a staggering 93% share of the market while Huawei’s shipment accounted for the remaining 6%. The market is presently almost controlled by the two companies of which Huawei’s run in the market is limited to China due to the US embargo.

DSCC projects that the shipment of foldable display-packing mobile phones will increase from 2.6 million units to 4 million units in the fourth quarter of this year. The firm also projects that shipments will increase to 20 million units by next year even though the market is expected to record less than 10 million units in shipments this year.

In terms of models, the most popular foldable phone is the Galaxy Z Flip 3 followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, while the Huawei Mate X2 4G version, and 5G version ranked fourth or fifth.

It is worth mentioning that Huawei is rumored to have got a Mate series flip foldable display mobile phone in the works. The model which will utilize a flip design just like that of the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Motorola Razr 5G is expected to be unveiled in December. The model will be cheaper and should increase Huawei’s share of the market when it goes on sale.

Samsung has been hinting at a future full of rollable, foldable, and slideable OLED displays as part of its ‘OLED Era’ for quite a while. But a new site for Samsung Display now indicates that the company has gotten more overt than ever with its teasers.

The micro-site has seemingly been set up with the sole purpose of showcasing the company’s bleeding-edge display tech. Within it, the ‘Flex OLED’ page suggests that Samsung may soon be diverging into a greater variety of displays, offering a number of aspect ratios and folding in a variety of different ways. The company’s current portfolio only includes its Galaxy Z Fold and Flip devices but it might soon be expanded.

Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass tech has been highlighted with improved durability, withstanding 100 folds a day or over five years of constant use. UTG has even been claimed to match the hardness of real glass, although that remains to be seen.

The Korean company has even achieved a remarkably tiny bending radius of just 1.4mm, which should provide a tinier crease and result in slimmer devices.

But perhaps the most intriguing bits are the posters that seem to show laptops+tablets with foldable displays and TVs with rollable displays that roll just like paper. Of course, these are obviously still under their early stages, but a future where tech like this is mainstream is now closer than ever.

The site also offers a glimpse at Flex Bar – a display type not unlike the one found on the Z Flip3, as well as Flex Square (a Z Fold-style panel). Flex Note has been showcased as well – a new trademark that might be Samsung’s new way of describing tech found on devices like the ThinkPad X1 Fold.

All in all, Samsung’s vision is a huge step in the right direction. Many had already begun to deem phones as having reached an evolutionary peak, but it’s quite clear now that there’s plenty more to come.

Samsung is planning to launch up to four foldable display smartphones this year. However, it might also launch a rollable display smartphone as a patent unearthed by LetsGoDigital shows a dual slider smartphone design.

As the name suggests, the smartphone patent, which was applied on March 2020 at WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office), shows a retractable display on both sides(left, right). Surprisingly, it also mentions the possibility of a dual-screen i.e, on the front and back moving simultaneously.

The patent got published recently on January 21, 2021, and the report has partnered with creator Jermaine Smit to show us 3D color renders. As mentioned above, the front display is foldable and the back could have either a second display or flexible material such as metal film, fabric, or leather.

As for the slider mechanism, Samsung has used two Switch gears and a gear rail to move the housing inside. The housing inside has a midframe on which the folded display rests. Speaking of which, the report says that the screen will be 30% larger when unfolded on left and right.

For instance, a typical 6-inch device would become an 8-inch smartphone. To complement this, Samsung is planning to use a chain-link system covered with flexible foil/cover and a side frame that flexes in and out along with the display. Another exciting part is the rear(flexible) moving along with the frame and front display making it unique from other extending smartphone designs.

For selfies, the patent schematic doesn’t contain a front cam but talks about the integration of the Front/Rear cam with the same layout. However, the report mentions the possibility of Samsung using punch-hole screen upfront like its older foldables.

That being said, the device could also have the new Galaxy S21 rear camera layout which has a side flushing out with the frame. This is not the first time we are seeing a slider phone from Samsung. Back in CES 2020, the company showcased a phone having a display sliding out from one side.

As with every patent, we don’t know if Samsung will finalize this design for commercial use, and hence, let’s wait for more details.

Earlier this week, Samsung Electronics revealed its operating profit and other details with its latest financial report. The South Korean tech giant accredited its growth and profits to various different factors and also stated its plans on expanding its foldable smartphone portfolio in 2021.

According to TheElec report, the operating profits of Samsung were the highest in two years, with sales also reaching an all time high for a quarter. From its overall profits of 12.35 trillion won (roughly 10.9 billion US Dollars), its smartphone business accounted for nearly a third or 4.45 trillion won (roughly 3.9 billion US Dollars), which is also a rise of 1.54 trillion won (roughly 1.35 billion US Dollars) from the same period back in 2019. The company stated that efficient management of costs and marketing is what helps in its profitability.

At the conference call, Samsung revealed that it plans to expand the price range of foldable smartphones as well. In other words, we would likely see foldable handsets with a bit more affordable price tag. At the moment, foldable devices only account for a small fraction of the company’s total smartphone sales, but it is projected to grow every year. Despite seeing a strong third quarter, Samsung is expecting profits and sales to drop by the final quarter due to increased competition from its rivals during year end sales.

The company stated that the pent up demand caused by the Coronavirus pandemic for smartphones also helped boost sales during the third quarter of 2020. This wasn’t limited to just smartphone sales, but also the company’s other consumer electronics product lineup as well. Larger screen devices also rose in popularity as the work from home scenarios have become the norm in 2020.

Samsung recently took the media by storm when it announced that this year’s Galaxy Unpacked event would be held on February 20. During the event, the South Korean tech giant is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S10 flagship series. Going by leaks, Samsung Galaxy S10 series is made of the Galaxy S10+, S10, and S10 E (Lite). We have already seen some leaks around these models and don’t expect the rumour mills to stop buzzing until the models are official.

The latest rumour surrounds the battery capacity of some of the Galaxy models Samsung will drop this year. An earlier rumour had already shown that the Galaxy S10+, S10, and S10 E (Lite) will pack 4,000mAh, 3,500mAh, and 3,100mAh battery capacities respectively. However, the battery capacity of the 5G-enabled Galaxy S10 variant and that of the foldable Galaxy Flex/Fold are yet to feature in any leak until now. GalaxyClub.nl has hinted that the 5G Galaxy S10 model, internally known as the Beyond X (SM-G977), would possibly pack a massive 5,000mAh battery. The battery unit is reportedly the same with the ones that would be crammed inside the upcoming Galaxy M20 and M30 mid-range devices.

Further, the foldable Galaxy Flex will reportedly pack an even bigger battery. The rumour has it that the foldable phone will utilise two separate batteries of 3,100mAh capacities. This set up will provide the flagship model with 6,200mAh battery. That is practically a tablet-size composition which means you could get up to two days battery power on a full charge. We know the Galaxy S10 would be unveiled during the Unpacked event but we can’t say when this foldable beast would meet with us. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.

Samsung took a foldable smartphone to last year’s CES but it was shown to a few people at a private event. This year, it did the same thing at CES 2019. Definitely not the same device as last year’s but seen only by a few yet again.

This has been Samsung’s move for a couple of years now, since 2014 according to some. Take a prototype to the event and show it off to a select few which might include carrier executives and other business partners.

According to the source, one of those who saw the device said Samsung is working on software optimizations and polishing the hardware. “When unfolded, Samsung’s foldable phone does not show any crease indicating it had been bent,” said the executive who saw the device. However, he did say that Samsung is working on leaving the sides slightly lifted when folded.

The phone was first shown to a wider audience back in November at Samsung’s Developer Conference (SDC) though it was put in a case that covered its design. The phone has two displays – a 4.6-inch screen that is outside and can be used when it is folded and a 7.3-inch screen on the inside when it is laid out flat.

Samsung is expected to officially announce the foldable phone in H1 2019 and from all indications, it won’t be cheap.

While the foldable smartphone was only shown to a few, Samsung’s 5G prototype smartphone was on public display and it appears not a lot of people noticed it or maybe they were just uninterested since it didn’t get a lot of coverage.

The phone is shown with a case on and docked in a Samsung DeX in a show-glass. The words “5G Prototype Smartphone” can be seen written boldly at the bottom. This is probably one of Samsung’s existing flagships with a 5G modem, probably the Galaxy S9+.

A Samsung patent application filed in June 2018 has been unmasked showing what the Korean smartphone giant might have in store for its fans in the near future. The patent application is for a dual screen phone but this time around, instead of just being foldable, the two screens can be detached and used independently.

Samsung is still expected to be the first OEM to release a true foldable phone even though the Flexpai has been unveiled but is not yet on sale. So, Samsung can beat it to become the first commercial foldable flagship. However, while we wait for that, the company has apparently been tinkering with the idea of another innovation in dual display phones. The patent application bears the title,  “Electronic device with two display devices and method of operating” and was filed before the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO) last June. The application also shows that a similar patent application had been filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office a year earlier, precisely on June 28, 2017.

The device is composed of two distinct smartphones, each with their own processor and fuselage. The perk here is that both phones can be attached and used as one single big phone but can also be used independently. Both screens are attached using magnets. Each of the two phones houses three magnets that allow the two phones to be attached in several different orientations. The application comes with sketches which give users an idea of how the detachable folding phone can be applied. It allows users to run two different apps at the same time just like split-screen but in this case, none of the apps will be paused. You can as well use the phone as one big screen for streaming movies. There are other configurations for snapping selfies, as well as for typing emails and texts with a virtual QWERTY keyboard.

South Korea-based research firm CGS-CIMB Research gave an account in which it evaluates the Bill of Materials (BOM) for the foldable Galaxy F in comparison with Galaxy S9+ and an iPhone XS Max. One among the expensive item is the display – or should we say “displays”. The Galaxy F will feature one large 7.3” panel that folds down the middle alongside an external 4.58” display. Two batteries will also be included which will not add much to the price (total battery capacity is expected to be around 5,000-6,000mAh).

The BOM works out to around 65% more than the iPhone and the S9+, with the same cost. Analysts have predicted that Samsung will go for a gain margin of 65%, matching Apple, as compared to the 55% of the Galaxy S9+. With this margin, they arrive at a retail price (without carrier subsidies) of $1,800. This is almost an equal match for the rumoured price tag. So expensive though, but the uniqueness of Samsung Galaxy F is that it is one of the upcoming devices with a proper foldable screen.

Analysts project sales of about 3.5 million units of foldable phones coming year, a number that will rise rapidly to 24 million units in the year 2022. The price tags will eventually reduce gradually – the average cost of a foldable phone in 2022 is assumed to be at an average of $1,300. There will be competition to make components for foldable phones too. Samsung Display is one of the top right now, it can produce 1 million foldable screens per year, according to the report. LG Display will accomplish that range in 2020.
The producers of foldable circuit boards and batteries stand to profit from foldable phones too.

Samsung foldable phone rumours or leaks are not new; they have been coming from the past several years. Today, Samsung Mobile Business CEO, D.J. Koh has spilled some beans on its upcoming foldable smartphone. Talking to CNET, Samsung’s D.J. Koh says that the foldable device can be transformed into a tablet and you can fold it up as a phone to put in your pocket. This new feature will help users to multitask along with easy portability.

Just like LG’s comment, Samsung’s D.J.Koh also pointed out that the foldable phone should be meaningful. He added that it is not viable to deliver products which don’t provide a good user experience. He stressed that the foldable phone wouldn’t be a “gimmick product” that will “disappear after six to nine months after it’s delivered.”

Koh told Cnet that, “When we deliver a foldable phone, it has to be really meaningful to our customer, If the user experience is not up to my standard, I don’t want to deliver those kinds of products.”

These comments provide clarity on the features that Samsung foldable phone will possess. The talks also relate to a rumour which states that Galaxy X will carry a 7.3-inch foldable display. Koh suggested that the device will open and close like a book.

Earlier, Koh has already confirmed that the foldable device will not make its way to the general public this year. In ending comments Koh suggested that Samsung will start selling the phone under a different small niche, later it will expand with time.

“Possibly when we start selling the foldable phone, it may be a niche market, but definitely, it will expand,” Koh told CNET. “I’m positive that we do need a foldable phone.”

We are expecting some more information about the device at next month’s Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2018.

Samsung‘s foldable phone which is tipped to go by the name Galaxy X or Galaxy Wing has been on the drawing board for quite some time now. Samsung may finally release the phone sometime soon as the Korea media tips the device to be completed in June.

There were reports that Samsung showcased two prototypes at a secret meeting held during the CES expo earlier this year. the two prototypes include an in-folding and an out-folding design. The in-folding prototype shown to select individuals at CES is said to have two halves measuring 3.5 inches each and there is a third 3.5-inch screen at the outside which displays information and notifications. When opened, the device is said not to be longer than the Galaxy Note 8. The company may likely utilise the in-folding design on the upcoming Galaxy X.

Rumors were rife last month that tech giant Samsung is planning to release a foldable smartphone in the third or fourth quarter of this year. That may not be the case after all if the latest rumor is anything to go by.

A recent rumor says the launch may not take place next year, rather the phone will only enter trial production in Q4 2017.  According to the report citing sources within the Taiwanese handset supply chain, the tech giant plans to begin a minor production of a few quantity of the device in the four quarter of this year, sort of test running the production process. Mass production of the Samsung foldable device will commence in H2 2018.  The source cited technical issues involving the production process for the delay. Specifically, the reliability of the Polyimide based (PI) plastic cover, a key component in the production of the foldable smartphone.

The foldable phone may likely come as a 7-incher and would fold outward in such a way that you probably won’t have to unfold it in order to view notifications and other minor stuff that can be carried out without flipping it open. So, if you are looking forward to the Samsung foldable smartphone or tablet at MWC 2017, it’s better to take your mind off the thought of that happening.

Many noted personalities have said that the smartphone industry has come to a saturation point when it comes down to innovation. That’s true to a large extent given that the most smartphones these days feature just incremental upgrades rather than something outright revolutionary. The Xiaomi Mi Mix was probably one of the most innovative smartphone products released in 2016, but even that was an incremental upgrade, achieved by reducing the bezels on the screen to a major extent — something that many companies have been trying for the past couple of years.

It is at this time that we hear about the foldable display smartphone concept from Samsung. And according to the latest reports, foldable smartphones may no longer exist as just a concept as Samsung as well as LG are said to be releasing such smartphones as early as Q3-Q4 2017. Initially, it was said that Samsung is developing a tablet-like device with a display that folds into a smartphone. But the company seems to have realized recently that folding-in smartphones are probably not the ideal way to go (since you’ll have to fold the display every time you want to use it as a phone). So, the company is now said to be working on foldable display smartphones that essentially fold outwards. So, it starts off as a smartphone and whenever required, you can open it up to convert it into a large 7-inch tablet. Pretty nifty, right?

Now, we have some pretty good looking concept renders of this foldable display smartphone. While we are not sure whether the final product from Samsung will end up looking anything close to this, it does give us a glimpse of how a smartphone which can enlarge itself into a 7-inch tablet could materialize in real life. Check out all the images below.

RELATED: Samsung’s First Folding Smartphone, the Galaxy X, Arriving Q3-Q4 2017

While a foldable smartphone sounds like an amazing concept, brining it to real life comes with its own set of technical challenges. We have seen flexible displays but a foldable smartphone requires much more than that. We will have to wait and see how Samsung tackles the rigid parts that are inside a smartphone like the circuit board. The specs on such a phone have to be top-notch and hence, it’ll be interesting to see how the company designs its first foldable display phone. Given that the company is said to roll out more than “100,000″ foldable devices in Q3 2017, it means that Samsung has already overcome these challenges.

With LG also reported to make a similar number of foldable devies by the fourth quarter, 2017 is definitely going to be an interesting year for smartphone enthusiasts.
