The higher-end A-series models are usually the first to get the latest updates. Last month, the Samsung Galaxy A51 received the Android 12 update in regions like Russia, Vietnam, and UAE. Now, the device is getting the update in Brazil.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 has received the One UI 4.1-based Android 12 update for models in Brazil. The update supports all unlocked and other carriers in the region. The build number of the update is A515FXXU5FVD2 and is sized over 2GB. It comes with the latest April 2022 security patch and has some bug fixes and improvements.

The update brings all the Android 12 and One UI 4.1 features like the Privacy Dashboard, improved color palette for apps, and Game Optimization Service (GOS) in Game Booster mode.

If you are a Galaxy A51 user residing in Brazil, you should have received the update notification. If you haven’t received any notification, simply head to the Settings > Software Update. If you still don’t see the Android 12 update on your phone, do not worry as it’s probably a staged update and your device should receive it soon.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 was launched back in 2019 with Android 10 out of the box. It has a 6.5-inch SuperAMOLED screen and packs Exynos 9611 SoC. The smartphone came with 48MP triple cameras and had a 4,000mAh battery.

The person who conceptualized and transformed the Galaxy A51 is Ken Pillonel, who has had a similar first, incorporating a USB-C port into an iPhone.

The lightning port is the mainstay of Apple iPhones, iPads, and several other devices from the Apple ecosystem. Apple iPhones do not come with USB-C charging ports but Pillonel was able to incorporate one into an iPhone model last year. The innovation of incorporating the lightning port into an Android phone sees the lightning port as capable of charging the device and for data transfer.

Pillonel provided a short demo video of the transformation of the Samsung Galaxy A51 into the first-ever Android smartphone with a lightning port. The tech geek is promising a more detailed video of the transformation and that could be illuminating. However, the utility of the transformation is minimal, to say the least. The developer insists that he intended to bring balance to the world after making the USB-C iPhone.

At best, Apple iPhone chargers could now be used to charge the Samsung Galaxy A51 transformed smartphone. Ultra-fast chargers could enhance the charging speed when compared with the conventional USB-C 2.0 charging available to the device. The detailed video by Pillonel could help to put his feat in the right perspective and open other opportunities.

Continuing the trend, Samsung has released a new update with January 2022 security patch even before the month begins.

According to the latest report coming from SamMobile, the South Korean giant has rolled out a new software update for the Galaxy A51 smartphone that brings the January 2022 security patch to the device.

The update, which carries version A515FXXU5EUL3, is currently being rolled out in Malaysia and Russia. If you are in these regions, then you should be receiving the over-the-air update soon if you still haven’t received it.

You can also manually check for the availability of this new software update on your smartphone by navigating to the Settings > Software update and then tapping on the Download & Install button.

It is interesting to see that the Samsung Galaxy A51 smartphone, which is a mid-range offering the company, receive the latest January 2021 security patch. Usually, the flagship or premium smartphones from the brand are among the first to get new updates.

As the update has now been rolled out for the Galaxy A51 smartphone, we expect the South Korean giant to soon roll out a new software update with January 2022 security patch for the Galaxy S21-series and the S20-series smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 is also set to receive the latest One UI 4.0 update but users will have to wait a few more months as the update is scheduled to be available in April 2022.

According to a Sammobile report, Samsung Galaxy A51 is receiving an update with firmware version A515FXXU4DUB1 in Russia. This update bundles the One UI 3.0 based on Android 11 and the latest security patch. To recall, the Galaxy A51 was originally scheduled to get it only by March 2021.

As mentioned above, Samsung has jumped the gun and brought the update quicker which also has the February 2021 security patch. As for the Android 11 features, you can witness new chat bubbles(conversations), media controls, improved permission management, and organized notifications.

Although Samsung’s latest UI is One UI 3.1, the One UI 3.0 brings quite a bit of upgrade over the predecessor, One UI 2.5. Some of them are improvements to UI and icons, Dark Mode, Digital Wellbeing & parental controls, and more AOD clock styles, etc.

Samsung so far has updated models like the Galaxy S20, Note 20, Note 10, S10 series, and budget devices like the Galaxy M31, M21, F41, and more. The list will only get bigger. Speaking of which, the horizon of Galaxy A51 will widen in the coming days so don’t panic if your unit hasn’t got it yet.

According to Strategy Analytics data, Samsung shipped a total of 6 million units of the Galaxy A51 to grab a 2.3% share of the market. The Galaxy A51 was released by Samsung in December last year and is indeed a premium midrange model. The A-series is Samsung’s response to a declining market occasioned by cheaper models from Chinese OEMs a couple of years back. The rejigged A-series and other midrange series have been a huge success. SA says the Galaxy A71 (4G) is popular in all regions, particularly across Europe and Asia.

The budget Redmi 8 is ranked as the second best-selling model with a market share of 1.9%. The research firm disclosed that Xiaomi’s Redmi smartphone range is selling very well in India and China and increasingly across Europe.

Samsung’s Galaxy S20+ came in at the third position with a 1.7 per cent share. The Samsung flagship is notably the only super-premium model which appeared in the top-six ranking.

Other models in the top 6 chart include the Galaxy A10s with a 1.6 or cent share, the Redmi Note 8 also at 1.6 % share. The Galaxy A20s completes the top 6 with a 1.4% share.

The data also shows that consumers’ affordability for rising Android smartphone prices has also increased.

Linda Sui, Director at Strategy Analytics, said, “Global smartphone shipments reached a total of 275 million units in Q1 2020. The Android segment accounted for a dominant 86 per cent share of all smartphones shipped worldwide in the quarter. The vast majority of smartphones sold globally today are Android models.”

As for the specs, the Galaxy A71 5G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display FHD+ resolution of 1080pixels. The device utilises a punch-hole design which houses a 32MP selfie camera.

Samsung Galaxy A01

In addition, Samsung announced two cheaper models that adopt the moniker Galaxy A01 and Galaxy A11. The Galaxy A01 is an entry-level model but it runs on full Android and is not a Go Edition model. It carries a $110 price tag.

Samsung Galaxy A11

Samsung Galaxy A11

On the other hand, the Galaxy A11 is said to be a more affordable version of the A21. It packs the same 4,000mAh battery with 15W charging support. However, the device defers from the A21 in the rear camera configuration which makes the camera less powerful than the Galaxy A21’s.

The Galaxy A11 comes with a price tag of $180.

The Galaxy A51 was launched in January this year but Samsung is planning to release a 5G version which would bring 5G connectivity at affordable pricing.

The Galaxy A51 5G has now been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance, an indication that the model will be released soon. The smartphone appeared with the codename SM-A516N. The listing shows the 5G version of the Galaxy A51 will support Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac standards on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. The model is equally listed to boot Android 10 out of the box which will definitely be with the One UI 2 overlay.

The Samsung Galaxy A51 5G had appeared earlier on GeekBench with a few details in tow. The device features an in-house Exynos 980 SoC integrated with a 5G modem as well as 6GB of RAM, apparently on the base model. The phone is expected to retain the L-shaped camera setup, punch hole design and a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED screen on the Galaxy A51 4G version.

There is no word yet as to when the premium 5G smartphone will be launched.

It is not a completely new device since it is just a rebranded version of the device known in China as the Huawei Nova 6 SE. The difference is that the Huawei P40 Lite is for the global market. For this specs comparison, we chose one of the latest devices launched in the global market: Samsung Galaxy A51. We also included one of the most popular mid-rangers in the European market: Xiaomi Mi 9T. Does the Huawei P40 Lite represent a better option? This comparison will try to give you the final answer.

Design

Do you like punch-hole displays to get rid of bezels or do you prefer a notch-less and holeless display on a phone equipped with a pop-up selfie camera? If the first option is your choice, we believe you should go for the Samsung Galaxy A51, which provides a single punch-hole display and a higher screen-to-body ratio than Huawei P40 Lite. But if you do not hate the pop-up camera, Xiaomi Mi 9T has a more interesting design since it is built with more premium materials. Despite it is just a mid-ranger, it comes with a glass back and an aluminum frame just like flagship smartphones. Xiaomi Mi 9T is even more compact, but it is thicker and one of the reasons is the presence of a motorized pop-up camera.

Display

Huawei P40 Lite is not so trendy with its IPS display. On the other hand, Xiaomi Mi 9T looks very gorgeous with its AMOLED display boasting the HDR certification. It is a notch-less panel with brilliant colors and a great image quality, great for multimedia-addicted users. Samsung Galaxy A51 is another device with an amazing display. Just like the Xiaomi Mi 9T, it has a Full HD+ AMOLED panel with high contrast, brightness, and screen-to-body ratio. Unfortunately, it is not HDR-compliant, but it remains an awesome display for a mid-ranger.

Specs & Software

On the paper, the Kirin 810 found on the Huawei P40 Lite is the best chipset. It has great CPU and GPU performance, as well as a very low energy consumption since it is built with a 7 nm production process. And Huawei P40 Lite also offers a higher amount of RAM than Samsung Galaxy A51 and Xiaomi Mi 9T: up to 8 GB. Huawei P40 Lite has expandable internal storage, while Xiaomi Mi 9T does not. And unlike the Xiaomi Mi 9T, it has Android 10 out of the box, despite it does not come with Google services, replaced by Huawei Mobile Services. Samsung Galaxy A51 has inferior hardware to both Xiaomi Mi 9T and Huawei P40 Lite.

Camera

We still had no chance to test every camera department of these devices, but on the paper, Xiaomi Mi 9T looks more interesting. It is the only one to offer a telephoto lens, so it is the only with optical zoom, despite it has a triple camera instead of the quad-camera setup found on its rivals. Samsung Galaxy A51 looks to have a better front camera, but its rear cameras do not look promising.

Battery

With its 4200 mAh capacity (200 mAh more than Samsung Galaxy A51 and Xiaomi Mi 9T) and a very efficient chipset, Huawei P40 Lite should last more than its opponents with most of the usage patterns. It also charges a lot faster thanks to its 40W fast charging technology.

Price

You can get all of these devices for less than €300/$332 and for those prices, Huawei P40 Lite looks like a slightly better handset. But it lacks an AMOLED display and a really premium design, so keep that in mind. Further, I believe Xiaomi Mi 9T can offer a higher value for money due to a lower street price (less than €270/$299 in the 6/64 GB configuration).

The Galaxy A51 appeared with the model number SM-A516N. The benchmark database also contained some of the key specifications of the device. These include an Exynos 980 System-on-Chip (SoC), 6GB RAM, and Android 10 operating system which will definitely get a touch of Samsung’s custom OneUI.

Of course, you won’t get a lot of details of the Galaxy A51 5G from Geekbench but previous rumours point to the presence of 128GB storage on the base model. The device is expected to be launched in South Korea in no distant time. Before that’ll happen, we expect more details of the Galaxy A51 5G to emerge online as time goes on.

The device has now gone on sale in Europe, going by several press releases from various European divisions of Samsung. The price of the Samsung Galaxy A51 starts from €370 but the higher memory variant comes with a higher price tag.

The Galaxy A51 is available in France via Amazon and other retailers. It adopts a €340 price tag for the 4GB+64GB version while the 6GB+128GB variant is on sale for €410. The device comes with a slightly higher starting price in Holland where it can be snagged from Belsimpel at a discounted price of €350 (down from €369). The good thing is buyers get several payment options with Vodafone, Tele2 or T-mobile.

In Eastern Europe, the phone is on sale in Bulgaria via Telenor for the equivalent of €430 for the 6GB+128 GB variant. The best Galaxy A51 deal that we came across is from Citrus in Ukraine which is offering the phone for just 9,499 UAH (€350 for the 6GB+128 GB option). The phone is offered in Black, Blue, or White.

Design

Due to a more elegant look, a more compact body and a thinner profile, Oppo F15 and Samsung Galaxy A51 are more attractive than Redmi Note 8 Pro, at least according to my opinion. Samsung Galaxy A51 has a more beautiful front panel since it sports a punch-hole display and it does not need a notch in order to boast very narrow bezels. On the other hand, I like the rear side of the Oppo F15 because it sports a smaller camera module and a more minimalistic look, while the Samsung Galaxy A51 has a bigger iPhone 11-like camera module.

Display

A lot of people would opt either for the Oppo F15 or the Samsung Galaxy A51 due to their AMOLED display including an in-display fingerprint reader. But Redmi Note 8 Pro does not have a bad display. Despite it is an IPS panel, we are talking about an HDR screen with very high brightness. Our recommendation is not to focus on the display while making a choice between these three handsets. You would better mind about the rest of their specifications as you will find big surprises.

Specs & Software

Not everyone is familiar with MediaTek chipsets and not everyone likes them, but we have to face the truth: the Helio G90T found on the Redmi Note 8 Pro is not only the most powerful chipset of this comparison, but it is also one of the best midrange processors for mobile devices. It is meant specifically for gamers and power users. Redmi Note 8 Pro even comes with up to 8 GB of RAM and a fast UFS 2.1 internal storage. The silver medal goes to the Oppo F15: it is fueled by an Helio P70 chipset paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and UFS 2.1 internal storage. But Samsung Galaxy A51 is the only with Android 10 out of the box.

Camera

We still had no chance to test the cameras of the Oppo F15 and Samsung Galaxy A51 since they are still not available to purchase. The data we have is not enough to fully evaluate those cameras, but we can tell you that according to the specs on the paper, these devices are all midrange camera phones. So expect great photos, but not amazing shots like top-end camera phones. We can tell you the same about the front cameras.

Battery

Besides providing better performance, Redmi Note 8 Pro should also offer a much longer battery life thanks to its 4500 mAh battery. But Oppo F15 has a faster charging technology with a 20W power bringing the battery to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.

Price

Oppo F15 debuted in India with a price tag of about $262, Samsung Galaxy A51 should cost about €240/$267, and Redmi Note 8 Pro costs about €203/$226. At the end of the day, despite being a more affordable handset, Redmi Note 8 Pro looks more convincing. But there are still a few doubts and they regard the camera departments and the battery life of Oppo F15 and Samsung Galaxy A51.

Among the latest high value for money, smartphones announced there are Samsung Galaxy A51 and Redmi K30. Given their well-balanced specs sheets, we think it is worth including them in a comparison to establish which one is the best. We also added Redmi Note 8 Pro to the comparison since we believe it is one of the most amazing smartphones you can get at a very affordable price.

Design

While Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with a classic waterdrop design, Redmi K30 and Samsung Galaxy A51 offer something more innovative. They come with punch-hole notch-less displays. I personally prefer the Samsung Galaxy A51 because it has a single punch hole, a thinner profile, more compact dimensions, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Both the fingerprint scanners of the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Redmi K30 are side-mounted.

Display

A lot of people might initially think that Samsung Galaxy A51 has a better display since it is the only one sporting an AMOLED panel in this trio. But despite having an LCD display, Redmi K30 is way more interesting as it features both the HDR10 certification and a high 120 Hz refresh ratio. And actually there is just a limited amount of mid-rangers with a 120 Hz display. The 120 Hz refresh rate provides smoother user experience and it is amazing for gamers. Further, Redmi K30 has a wider display diagonal.

Specs & Software

On the paper, the most powerful hardware department is on board of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The device boasts an Helio G90T chipset paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. The silver medal goes to the Redmi K30 with its Snapdragon 730G, despite a lot of people actually prefer to buy a device with a Qualcomm’s chipset due to the higher reputation of the San Diego-based chipmaker. Android 10 is installed out of the box on Redmi K30 and Samsung Galaxy A51, while Redmi Note 8 Pro is based on Android 9 Pie. Samsung Galaxy A51 has a lower-end chipset and it only comes with 6 GB of RAM in its most expensive variant.

Camera

While there is no way Samsung Galaxy A51 can compete with its opponents in terms of hardware and performance, its cameras are all but bad. But we will have to test them thoroughly to give a definitive opinion, as the device is still not in the market. Redmi K30 and Redmi Note 8 Pro come with the same rear camera department, but Redmi K30 is the only with a dual front camera including a depth sensor.

Battery

The best battery phone here is the Redmi K30 and the reason si very simple: it has the biggest battery with a 4500 mAh capacity and the most efficient chipset. Further, it even features a faster charging technology.

Price

Samsung Galaxy A51 is going to hit the global market with a €379,90 price tag, Redmi Note 8 Pro actually costs less than €250 globally, while Redmi K30 is available for €255, but only in China. The amazing, wider display, the good hardware department and the long-lasting battery would let me go for the Redmi K30 which we choose as the winner of this comparison.

We already published a specs comparison regarding the Galaxy A71, so now it is time for its affordable sibling. Just like most of our comparisons, we chose the devices we believe to be the most competitive sold in the same price range. For this comparison, we decided to pick the Realme 5 Pro and the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite. Both are devices offering high performance at very interesting prices: will the Galaxy A51 be able to compete with them? Let’s discover it together.

Design

In order to make their budget phones very affordable, both Samsung and Realme decided to make the Galaxy A51 and the Realme 5 Pro with a cheap plastic body. Despite coming with cheap materials, keep in mind that Realme 5 Pro is splash resistant. But the device offering the best design and build quality is the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite, also known as the Xiaomi Mi CC9 in China. Unlike most of the budget phones, it comes with both a glass back and an aluminum frame for a premium touch & feel. Further, its rear side shows suggestive light effects depending on the viewing angle.

Display

Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite is superior even if we talk about the display quality. It is the only HDR-compliant device from this trio, which means it provides a richer image quality. Further, it has a higher peak brightness with up to 600 nits. It is also an AMOLED panel. The silver medal goes to the Samsung Galaxy A51 equipped with a Super AMOLED display, while Realme 5 Pro loses the comparison as it comes with a classic IPS panel, but it is not disappointing thanks to its Full HD+ resolution.

Specs & Software

In a lot of regions, if you want the most affordable smartphone with the highest performance, you have to choose the Realme 5 Pro. The mid-ranger from Oppo’s sub-brand is available for less than €200 and it offers an amazing Snapdragon 712 chipset, which is an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 710 found on the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite. The Mi 9 Lite offers a fast UFS 2.1 internal storage, but Realme 5 Pro has more RAM: up to 8 GB in its most expensive version, while both Samsung Galaxy A51 and Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite stops at 6 GB. Despite it is less impressive in terms of performance, Samsung Galaxy A51 is the only with Android 10 out of the box since it is a more recent handset.

Camera

The differences in photo quality between Samsung Galaxy A51, Realme 5 Pro and Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite are not excessive. Due to its definitely better secondary sensors, I personally prefer the quad rear camera of the Samsung Galaxy A51. It is even great at shooting selfies, but Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite has a better selfie snapper.

Battery

With these three phones, you get more or less the same battery capacity and, given that we still did not test the battery life of the Samsung Galaxy A51, we can not provide you a definitive opinion. Between Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite and Realme 5 Pro, the former offers a slightly longer battery life in most of the scenarios.

Price

Samsung still did not announce the price of the Galaxy A51. You can get the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite globally for less than €250/$279, while Realme 5 Pro has a €199/$222 global listing price (but street prices are lower). Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite is a more complete device than its rivals due to its better build quality and display, but it costs definitely more than Realme 5 Pro, even though the 5 Pro provides higher performance.

Recently, Samsung Vietnam released a brand new teaser video announcing new Galaxy A-series devices will be coming on December 12. While no specific details were given, reports claim that the devices being launched will be the Galaxy A51 and A71, the flag bearers for most of the Galaxy A-series devices.

At the end of the teaser video, we get to see the new design for the Galaxy A-devices, with a hole-punch camera cutout similar to the Galaxy Note 10. It seems like the Note 10 design will probably be carried over to the lower-end models as well. That’s not too bad considering that the Galaxy Note 10 has fairly excellent design.

It was previously reported that the Galaxy A51 is equipped with a 6.2-inch screen, a 4000mAh battery, and an Exynos 9611 octa-core processor, which is made up of four 2.3GHz A73 cores and four 1.7GHz A53 cores. There’s a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU and an integrated modem that supports 3CA downlink supports up to 600Mbps bandwidth. RAM options starts at 4GB, and storage is available in 64GB and 128GB.

The Galaxy A71 on the other hand will allegedly come with the Snapdragon 675 chipset instead of the A51’s Exynos 9611. This will be paired up with 8GB of RAM, a 6.7-inch screen, a decently slim chassis that measures in at 163.5 x 76 x 7.9mm, a 4500mAh battery (25W fast charge), and a price of about 400 euros, which is roughly 3113 yuan.
