If you’re eyeing a flagship smartphone without going deep into the pocket, the Pixel 8a might be a good bet. It packs a 6.1-inch OLED screen that refreshes at 120Hz. It’s another flagship device on the list, available at half its original price. The Galaxy S22 boasts a premium design, featuring an Armor Aluminum frame and robust Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection on both sides. The screen measures 6.1 inches, featuring an AMOLED panel with HDR10+ and a 120Hz refresh rate.

The Noting Phone (3a) is another compelling option in the sub-$400 category. Besides a unique transparent look, there are several other aspects that the device gets right. 4. Samsung Galaxy A55

The Galaxy A55‘s design closely mirrors the look and feel of Samsung’s flagship S-series. It has an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass protection on both sides. The IP67-rating ensures the device can withstand dust and water to some extent.

5. Moto G Stylus 5G (2024)

This is the cheapest on the list — even cheaper than the Edge (2024) — and still gets the job done. Additionally, it features a stylus for improved accuracy, accessibility, and enhanced productivity. It closely resembles the Edge (2024) except that it has a flatter display while the other one has a curved one.

The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) features a slightly larger 6.7-inch AMOLED screen that refreshes at 120Hz. To bring the price down, Motorola had to cut some corners, and one of them comes in the form of screen protection. Overall, it’s a great display with vibrant colors and good viewing angles.

Both Motorola phones come with Android 14 out of the box. However, the Moto G Stylus (2024) will only get one Android update, while the Edge (2024) will likely get an additional major upgrade.

The sighting on the database basically hints that the Galaxy A55 5G’s launch could be imminent. But unfortunately, no other finer details like specs were revealed in the certification platform.

Just recently, the Samsung Galaxy A55 was spotted on the TUV Rheinland and 3C certifications as well. These also revealed that the device supports 25W wired fast charging. Based on our previous report, it is expected to launch sometime between April and June 2024. This model is rumored to sport a 6.5-inch OLED display that offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the new smartphone could be equipped with the Exynos 1480 SoC that is paired with an AMD GPU.

A large 5,000mAh battery pack may power this handset. The rear may pack a triple camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 5-megapixel macro shooter. Meanwhile, the front house has a 32-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls. Samsung is gearing up to unveil its next-generation flagship Galaxy S24 series on January 17. The South Korean brand is also expected to announce its next-generation Galaxy A-series phones. The company has already launched the Galaxy A25 5G and A15 5G in the global markets. The next phone in the A-series i.e. the Galaxy A55 surfaced in press renders yesterday and this led to the anticipation of its imminent arrival. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case as per a new report. 

Samsung Galaxy A55 may not launch soon

SamMobile reports that Samsung is planning to launch the Galaxy A55 sometime early in the second quarter of 2024. This means that the device may debut between the April to June period. It is also a few months later than Samsung’s usual launch timeline for the Galaxy A5x-series mid-range phones. The South Korean brand is also expected to launch the Galaxy A35 alongside the A55 around the same timeframe. It remains to be seen if Samsung will announce the Galaxy A7x-series smartphone. The brand skipped the launch of the Galaxy A74 last year. 

The recently leaked press renders of the Galaxy A55 are in line with the CAD-based leaked renders. The former reveals that the device will arrive in Iceblue, Lilac, and Navy color options. The device will have a metal frame and a ‘key island’ that is a protrusion on the right frame housing the power and volume rocker buttons. 

As per past reports, the Galaxy A55 is expected to be powered by an Exynos 1480 processor with support for AMD GPUa. It is tipped to be backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit with support for 25W fast charging.

Samsung has an array of devices in the pipeline set to launch next year. The expected releases include the Galaxy S24 series in the second or third week of January. This will likely be followed by the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55. 

Both the A35 and A55 are expected to run on the new Exynos 1480 chipset. The chipset has now surfaced on the Geekbench database providing us insights into its performance.

In the Geekbench test, the Exynos 1480 achieved a score of 1180 points in the single-core CPU performance test and 3,536 points in the multi-core CPU performance test. 

These scores, unsurprisingly, surpass those of the Exynos 1280 chip found in the Galaxy A54, which scored 1,108 points in the single-core test and 2,797 points in the multi-core test.

The Exynos 1480 utilizes the S5E8845 chipset, which was previously identified as the Exynos 1480. The SoC comes with an octa-core CPU architecture featuring four high-performance CPU cores clocked at 2.75GHz and four power-efficient CPU cores clocked at 2.05GHz. 

The chipset also features the RDNA2-based Xclipse 530 GPU, reported to be significantly more powerful than the Mali GPUs used in earlier Exynos chips. However, it remains unclear whether this mid-tier GPU supports ray tracing for games.

Moreover, leaked renders of the Galaxy A55 surfaced a few days ago, showcasing a boxy form factor and a design reminiscent of the Galaxy A35 and A15. 

The bottom of the phone features a USB-C port and a speaker grille, while the top edge houses a SIM card tray. Notably, the renders do not reveal a 3.5mm headphone jack. 

On the front, the smartphone boasts a center-aligned punch-hole cutout display measuring 6.5 inches, surrounded by thin bezels. Dimension-wise, the Galaxy A55 is expected to measure 161.1 x 77.3 / 77.9 x 8.2mm. 

The phone was also spotted on 3C certification recently confirming 25W charging support for the device. Although we’re unsure about the exact launch date of the Galaxy A55 or the A35, as aforementioned, it is expected to follow the release of the S24 series.

The device is expected to arrive as the successor to the Galaxy A54 that was announced in March this year.

Right off the bat, the Samsung Galaxy A55 is seen with a boxy form factor. We can notice a protrusion on the right frame where the power and volume rocker buttons are located. It’s safe to say that the South Korean brand is making this design mainstream on the upcoming Galaxy A phones as it has also been spotted on the Galaxy A35 and A15. The back panel of the device has three vertically stacked triple rear cameras. 

The bottom port of the Samsung Galaxy A55  has a USB-C port and a speaker grille. There is a SIM card tray on the top edge. The renders do not reveal a 3.5mm jack. On the front, the smartphone has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout display measuring 6.5 inches. The screen is surrounded by thin bezels. Dimension-wise, the Galaxy A55 will measure 161.1 x 77.3 / 77.9 x 8.2mm. The Galaxy A55 is seen in a Black color option. 

A report from earlier today revealed that the Samsung Galaxy A55 as well as the A35 will boast a metal unibody replacing the plastic ones from their predecessors. This will give both phones a premium look. Past reports suggest that the Galaxy A55 will be powered by the unannounced Exynos 1480 processor with support for AMD GPU. The 3C certification of the device revealed support for 25W fast charging.

Samsung is set to give its Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 smartphones a premium makeover next year, with metal frames replacing the plastic ones used in previous models.

This is according to tipster Revegnus, who claims that the Galaxy A55 will feature a metallic frame, likely aluminum, while the Galaxy A35 will get the same upgrade. This is a pleasant surprise as no model in this lineup has ever featured a metallic frame.

In addition to the metal frame upgrade, the Galaxy A35 is also expected to get a design refresh. Renders of the phone have been leaked by tipster Onleaks, and they show a phone with a similar design to its predecessor. However, there are a few key changes, including a center-aligned punch-hole cutout on the front instead of a U-notch.

Leaked renders of the phone show a vertically stacked triple-camera setup with an LED flash on the rear. The phone is expected to measure 161.6 x 77.9 x 8.2 mm.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A55 is also expected to receive some internal upgrades. The phone has been reportedly spotted in testing with the unannounced Exynos 1480 chip. It is rumored that the Exynos 1480 will be supported by an AMD graphics unit.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S24 flagship lineup in January 2024. The Galaxy A35 and A55 are rumored to follow soon after. We’ll be sure to keep an eye out for more leaks and rumors about the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 in the coming months.

The Galaxy A54 debuted earlier this year with rather mediocre specifications for the price. Although the handset featured a design similar to the Galaxy S23 series, the thick bezels on the display and the Exynos 1380 chip caused mixed reactions among consumers. Reports suggest Samsung is now testing its next premium mid-range smartphone— Galaxy A55. The handset is rumored to get an upgraded Exynos chip. Here are the details.

According to a GalaxyClub report, Samsung is testing the Galaxy A55 with a processor with the model designation S5E8845. The chipset, bearing the codename “Rose,” is likely the Exynos 1480. This is because the Exynos 1280 is labeled S5E8825, while the 1380 is designated S5E8835. Since the following two processors powered the Galaxy A53 and A54, it only makes sense that the Exynos 1480 will be under the Galaxy A55’s hood.

The publication also hints that the Exynos 1480 will be supported by an AMD graphics unit. This corroborates a previous leak by tipster Revegnus, who claimed the upcoming mid-range Exynos SoCs will have an AMD mRDNA-based GPU. However, the tipster warned against having too much hope for this GPU.

Finally, the report says Galaxy A55 will not be having an upgrade in the camera department as it will feature the same 50MP primary sensor as the Galaxy A54. This might mean the handset will retain a 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro shooter.

Other details about the Galaxy A55 are still anyone’s guess. Based on Samsung’s usual schedule, we can assume the handset will debut early next year in March. You might expect a 120Hz AMOLED display on the smartphone, along with a 5,000mAh battery unit and Samsung’s blazing-fast 25W charging tech (pun intended).

Samsung is reportedly working on a new rugged smartphone under the Galaxy Xcover brand, the Galaxy Xcover 7. This device is expected to be released soon and has been assigned the model number SM-G556B. Interestingly, this model number is similar to the upcoming Galaxy A55’s model number, “SM-A556B”. This has led some to speculate that the Galaxy Xcover 7 may be a more rugged version of the Galaxy A55.

However, it is still unclear whether the Galaxy Xcover 7 will be a Pro model like the existing Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro. Based on Samsung’s naming convention for rugged smartphones, it is more likely that the Galaxy Xcover 7 is not a Pro model. 

The Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro has the model number SM-G7xx, while the Galaxy Xcover 5 had the model number SM-G5xx. This suggests that the higher the number, the more powerful the device is. So, if the Galaxy Xcover 7 has the model number SM-G556B, it is more likely to be a non-Pro model than a direct sequel to the Galaxy Xcover 6 Pro. Otherwise, logic dictates that the upcoming device should have had the SM-G756B model number (via Sammobile).

Of course, these are just assumptions. But the close resemblance between the upcoming Xcover’s model number and the Galaxy A55 does suggest that it could be a rugged Galaxy A55. However, we don’t know the specifications of the Galaxy A55 either, as it is also expected to be released next year.

As of now, the rumored Xcover 7 existence has not been confirmed by Samsung, and there is no official information about its specifications. However, it is expected to launch in the first half of 2024.
