Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Gear smartwatch in 2013 as an Android-based smartwatch. The Korean tech giant later switched to its own Tizen OS but still retained the Galaxy Gear on Android. As the company prepares to switch back to Android with the Wear OS, it has advised Galaxy Gear owners to upgrade to Tizen OS by August 5 to continue having access to the Galaxy Store.

Samsung will switch to the Android operating system for its smartwatches later this year. The Wear OS will power the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Active instead of Tizen OS. The Android-based Wear OS means that the devices will have wider access to apps via the Galaxy Store, unlike Tizen OS. Samsung is also saying that there will be no switch from Tizen to Wear OS for smartwatches that the Tizen OS currently powers.

Although there are likely only a few Gear watch owners, the fact that Samsung is making the announcement indicates their presence. Existing Galaxy Gear watch owners can only continue to enjoy support from Samsung if they upgrade to Tizen OS by the August 5 date (Korean Standard Time). In order not to encounter a total loss of saved data in the form of videos, images, and other content, Gear watch owners are encouraged to back up their data before upgrading to Tizen OS. The Gear watch device will be reset upon completion of the upgrade, and all pre-upgrade data will be wiped off.

However, it seems counter-intuitive that the Gear watch OS is being upgraded from Android to Tizen, while Samsung is already switching back to Android via the Wear OS. The upgraded Samsung Galaxy Watch will only have access to a limited number of apps compared with the Android-based smartwatches.

Samsung is the one of Google partner but now, Samsung has developed the new SDK (Sofware Development Kit) for Tizen smart wearable devices precedes Google, it seems Samsung will neglect the Android OS for smart wearable devices?

With this new Tizen SDK, the developer can built the aplication for Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo, and this beat the Google to provide the SDK.

The existence of the Tizen SDK also makes it easy for developers to create applications. This SDK allows third party applications to display or control the notification in smartwatch OLED touch screen. In addition, the SDK also allows the use of data from pulse sensor and other features.

Google was already announced that they ready to launch the Android SDK is designed for wearable devices. In addition, Google also reportedly collaborated with LG to build a smart watches. Unfortunately, the Google’s move was preceded by Samsung.

While Samsung is preparing the launch of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on IFA in Berlin, along with that launch Samsung is also ready to unveiled the long awaited device, the Samsung Galaxy Gear, but  now we have a coupled leaked picture of Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

The picture is appear from venture Beat website, those picture is taking from a video since the media didn’t allow to taking the real picture directly. According to the picture, the Galaxy Gear will packs with 3 inch of OLED screen and will be sports with speaker alongside on the top and bottom of the screen.

At about 3 inches diagonally, the Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch is quite large. Although its screen is square, large bezels on the top and bottom give it a chunky, rectangular shape, with rounded corners.

The color is fairly basic — dark black and grey, although it may be enhanced in the final version. The wristband is clunky and masculine, large enough to hold speakers in the clasp. It’s not heavy to hold, but it dwarfed my tiny lady wrists when I tried it on. Women may instead opt for a Misfit Shine, which isn’t a watch but is a small jewel-like button.

The smartwatch prototype has Bluetooth to connect with the Galaxy S family of smartphones and tablets, although it may also connect to all Android devices. It also has Wi-Fi for Internet access, including e-mail, even when it’s not connected to a smartphone, but I didn’t see that in action.

There is a 4 MP camera at the top to record the images as well as health data. There are shades of healthcare software installed and can be used to determine the nutrient content of a food.

Samsung Galaxy Gear can accept voice commands with S Voice application. Also available Bluetooth and wifi to communicate with other gadgets that can synchronize to a call from a smartphone smartwatch. Integration of media networks Twitter and Facebook are also available.

As known earlier, the Galaxy Gear battery can last for 10 hours. Unknown battery capacity used, but from the pictures it can be seen that the size is quite large.

Basically, it’s actually the low-end to mid-end Android smartphone that packs into a wacth, the main concern is in the battery life, accrding to information, the new Samsung Galaxy Gear can used for as long as 10-hour battery in the one charge, which would pale in comparison to the Pebble or Sony’s upcoming Smartwatch 2.

The Samsung Galaxy gear smart watch is expected to be a communicator device for Samsung’s Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets, it could come with a number of functions, like being able to answer calls, text messages, read emails and more.

The former uses a black-and-white low-power LCD, while the latter will come with a color transflective screen, and both promise at least a few days on a charge. It’s unclear whether the 10 hours on this spec sheet include idle time, or only refer to active use. Either way, it sounds like you’d want to charge it most nights.

Samsung seems reeady to release Galaxy Gear Smartwatch on September 4th along with the lauching of Samsung Galaxy Note III phablet device.

With the model number SM-V700, Samsung Galaxy Gear will be one of accessories that can be colaborated with another Galaxy device lineup. Unfortunately, there is no detailed information according this smartphone until IFA 2013 helds in Berlin.

While the Canalys Research says, that the Samsung smartwatch will become the popular device on 2014 and can sold more than 5 million unit of sales while for now Samsung is only targeting 330,000 unit of sales.
