It was identified by the codename SM-J720F and according to speculations, it was the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018). Fresh info is suggesting that this device is not the J8 but it may be launched as Samsung Galaxy J7 Duo, another of the many variants of the Galaxy J7.

The info comes from some files obtained by GSMArena which include the bootloader screen of the handset. According to the files, the first thing you can see when you power on the phone is “Galaxy J7 Duo”. The image seems to prove that the handset is not the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) and that it has a classic 16:9 aspect ratio. So, do not expect a borderless device.

The image has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels, so the alleged Galaxy J7 Duo has an HD display. According to Geekbench and GFXBench, this device, previously known as the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) has an octa-core Exynos 7885 SoC paired with 3 GB of RAM. The handset runs Android 8.0 Oreo and its launch should be imminent. The leaked package shows that the firmware version of the phone is J720FDDU1ARCJ / J720FODM1ARCJ / J720FXXU1ARCB.

The handset has been unveiled in the Indian section of the official website, so all its specs and features are confirmed. This device is not so different from the original J7 Prime: we can define it just a slight upgrade. The design is slightly different but not so much. It weighs a bit more than its predecessor (167 g vs 170 g) and the design of its capacitive buttons placed outside the display has been changed.

The rest of the specs remains the same, while there are some improvements in the software. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 comes with Samsung Pay Mini availability in India and the front camera offers the ability to create AR stickers and filter. It is also possible to instantly share and edit photos shot from the selfie snapper. All these features will be useful for people who use often social networks like Instagram.

Now let’s talk about specs. The full metal unibody design of Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 houses a PLS TFT display with a size of 5.5 inches which shows images at a Full HD resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The SoC is an octa-core running at a max frequency of 1.6 GHz and, even though its name is not mentioned, we believe it is the Samsung Exynos 7870 (the same as the original J7 Prime) because it has exactly the same frequency. The chipset is paired with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage which can be expanded with a micro SD up to 256 GB. The main camera has a resolution of 13 MP and a f/1.9 aperture, as well as the selfie camera, while the battery has a capacity of 3300 mAh. Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime 2 will launch in India with a price tag of €175/$215.

It includes low-end and midrange devices, and it seems that it will include a new version of Samsung Galaxy J7 as well. Until now, the J7 and its variants have been the most powerful devices in the J series, but in this year Samsung will also launch a Galaxy J8 and a J8+ which should be even better. Still, the company will not skip the J7 (2018), at least according to the American FCC.

A device identified by the model number SM-J720F has just been certified by FCC, and the model number suggests that we may be talking about the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2018). Not much has been revealed by FCC about its specs and after this certification, we only get an important detail: its dimensions. Samsung Galaxy J7 (2018) will have a width of 153 mm and a height of 76 mm. So, it will be slightly bigger than its older sibling launched in 2017. But it seems that it will also sport a slightly bigger display with a size of 5.6 inches.

According to FCC, the alleged Samsung Galaxy J7 (2018) supports FDD Band 5, Band 7, Band 38 and Band 41, alongside the Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. These are the only details surfaced on FCC listings. At the moment we don’t know about its camera, neither its launch date and its possible listing price. But the supposed handset has already been spotted on Geekbench, even though the model number was different (SM-J737P). According to Geekbench, the device is powered by the octa-core Samsung Exynos 7885 chipset running at a frequency up to 2.2 GHz. The SoC is paired with just 2 GB of RAM, which makes us think the one spotted on Geekbench is just a cheap variant of the J7.
