Samsung’s first software security update for February 2022 is for the Galaxy Note 20 series. Samsung continues to be consistent in the release of its monthly security patches and February 2022 will not be different. So the first February security update from Samsung will be for the Galaxy Note 20 lineup of smartphones. The new security patch is now available for Note 20 users to update their devices.

According to SamMobile, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are the two devices whose security patches are now available. There will be a sequential regional rollout of the update, with Europe getting the first updates. It will begin with the Netherlands, then other parts of Europe, and then other global markets including the United States. Users of the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra can check for the update via their Settings menu. If the update is available, when the Software update option is picked, the user can then download it and provide added protection for the device. There is no added functionality in the current update but it is meant to patch some of the vulnerabilities and potential bugs in the architecture, hence the monthly updates are very important.

For now, Samsung has not revealed the full changelog for the February 2022 security update but this should be available later on via Samsung’s support page. It is also possible to manually download the update into your device, even if the automatic update has not berthed in the user’s region. The monthly update will extend to other younger models like the S21 series.

Design

In my opinion, the design of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is more original and attractive. The camera design makes it more futuristic and it is also more compact than the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, despite the latter is actually thinner and lighter. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is even more compact, but the design of its camera module is definitely less beautiful.

Display

The most advanced display is offered by the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra: there is not a huge difference if we compare it to the Galaxy S20 Ultra and Note 20 Ultra, but it is slightly better. Just like the Note 20 Ultra, even the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra supports the S Pen, while the S20 Ultra does not. All the phones come with an in-display fingerprint scanner, curved edges, and a punch-hole design.

Hardware/Software

In the European variant, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the S20 Ultra are powered by the same Exynos 990 chipset. But in the U.S. version, the situation is different since the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is fueled by the Snapdragon 865+, an upgrade of the Snapdragon 865 found on the S20 Ultra. But in each case, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra wins the hardware comparison thanks to even better chipsets: the Exynos 2100 and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and S20 Ultra pack up to 16 GB of RAM, while you get a max of 12 GB with the Note 20 Ultra.

Camera

The worst camera phone of the trio is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra due to inferior secondary sensors. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is actually better thanks to a 48 MP periscopic camera with 4x optical zoom and an additional TOF 3D sensor for depth calculation. But the Galaxy S21 Ultra wins the camera comparison with its 10x optical zoom.

Battery

Galaxy S21 Ultra provides the longest battery life, followed by the Galaxy S20 Ultra with the same 5000 mAh battery capacity. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a bit disappointing with its 4500 mAh battery. The Galaxy S20 Ultra has faster charging speeds. While you can actually find the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra for less than €1000/$900, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the S21 Ultra are priced at more than €1000/$900 even if you look at online street prices. We do not recommend the Note 20 Ultra as its battery is not so satisfying and the S21 Ultra supports the S Pen too. You can go for the S20 Ultra if you want to save money, but you have to say goodbye to S Pen, the higher performance level offered by the S21 Ultra and 10x optical zoom.

2020 is finally over but OPPO decided to release one last flagship before the end of the year: we are talking about the OPPO Reno5 Pro+. It is the first flagship phone from the Reno lineup since the Reno 10x Zoom and one of the most powerful devices in the market, despite its price is not excessive. In this comparison, we decided to highlight the main differences between the latest OPPO high-end model and other flagships from the main brands released in 2020. We chose the iPhone 12 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra for this specs comparison because the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the S21 lineup are definitely too expensive and recent for the Reno5 Pro+. Let’s see who is better.

Design

If we talk about the build quality, then the iPhone 12 Pro has no rivals here. It is built with a stainless steel flame and a glass back with the Ceramic Shield protection, and it is waterproof with the IP68 certification up to 6 meters deep. If we only consider the look, the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G is very attractive due to its thin and lightweight design, as well as its high screen-to-body ratio. But there is to say that the iPhone 12 Pro is actually more compact and thinner than the OPPO Reno5 Pro+. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is the biggest one but still comes with a very attractive design and a waterproof body thanks to the IP68 certification.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has the most advanced display. It is a wide 6.9-inch panel with a Quad HD+ resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and the HDR10+ certification, rated A+ and one of the best displays ever by DisplayMate. Further, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G supports the S Pen for handwriting and drawing on the display. The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ has a 90 Hz refresh rate and a very good panel, but despite its standard refresh rate, the iPhone 12 Pro actually comes with a better display delivering a higher-end image reproduction. In each case, we are talking about OLED panles, but the iPhone 12 Pro lacks an in-display fingerprint scanner, unlike its two rivals. On the other hand, it relies on Face ID (3D facial recognition) for authentication.

Hardware and Software

If you want the highest performance, then you should go for the iPhone 12 Pro. It is equipped with an amazing Apple A14 Bionic chipset built at 5 nm and paired with 6 GB of RAM. But you have to deal with iOS, and if you are an advanced user or you do not own an Apple ecosystem, you might not like it. If we consider the U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, it is more powerful than the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ thanks to the Snapdragon 865+ mobile platform. But the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ has a better chipset than the EU version of the Note 20 Ultra coming with a weaker Exynos 990. OPPO Reno5 Pro+ runs Android 11 out of the box, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has Android 10, and iPhone 12 Pro comes with iOS 14.

Camera

Each of these devices is a camera phone and it is very hard to pick the best one. Their performance mostly depend on the situation in which you click the photos. The iPhone 12 Pro is more interesting when it comes to video recording, while Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has better zoom capabilities thanks to its 12 MP periscope camera with 5x optical zoom. The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ features an amazing 50 MP main sensor: the new Sony IMX766. Overall, iPhone 12 Pro looks more convincing, but we had no chance to test the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ as it just debuted in China.

Battery

Despite its 4500 mAh capacity, the battery of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is disappointing. With just 2815 mAh, the iPhone 12 Pro is able to achieve similar results. Instead, we believe the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ will actually be better. It also comes with a faster charging technology, but you should keep in mind that it lacks wireless charging.

Price

OPPO Reno5 Pro+ starts from €500/$605 in China, while you need more than €1000/$1200 to get iPhone 12 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G in the global market. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra looks like a more complete phone for a lot of users, and so is the iPhone 12 Pro for the remaining ones. But the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ can let you save a lot of money while still getting a great flagship.

There is no better way to understand it than comparing it with top-tier Android flagships. I love the design of the OPPO Find X2 Pro and I consider it the best design of this trio. It comes with amazing materials: you can choose between a variant made of ceramic and a leather version (it is vegan leather) with an aluminum frame. The phone is also waterproof up to 1.5 meters deep thanks to the IP68 certification. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra still offers an awesome design with its high screen-to-body ratio and its stainless steel frame, and it is waterproof as well with the IP68 certification. But the best build quality is provided by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, coming with a stainless steel frame and Ceramic Shield. The Apple flagship is waterproof up to 6 meters deep!

Display

Here it is a very hard fight. The displays of these phones are more or less at the same level as they provide an astonishing image quality, close to perfection. Unfortunately, the iPhone 12 Pro Max lacks a high refresh rate, that is why I would not choose it. In 2020, the image quality is not everything: the smoothness counts too. Instead, I would go for the OPPO Find X2 Pro with its 10-bit color depth and 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is very similar, but it does not allow using 120 Hz with the max Quad HD+ resolution. On the other hand, it supports the S Pen for handwriting and drawing.

Hardware and Software

Each of these devices sports a flagship-class hardware department, but the most powerful is the iPhone 12 Pro Max: it is fueled by the new Apple A14 Bionic platform built at 5 nm with 5G support. The second place goes to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G with a Snapdragon 865+ paired with up to 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of native storage. But you should note that the European version is not powered by the Snapdragon 865+: instead, you get an Exynos 990 chipset which is actually inferior to the vanilla Snapdragon 865 found on the OPPO Find X2 Pro.

Camera

The best camera performance is offered by the iPhone 12 Pro Max, followed by the OPPO Find X2 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro Max provides better video recording capabilities, while OPPO Find X2 Pro has higher zoom capabilities thanks to a periscope sensor with 5x optical zoom. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is slightly less interesting, but it remains one of the best camera phones out there.

Battery

Despite it packs a smaller battery, the iPhone 12 Pro Max can actually provide a longer battery life. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a bit disappointing despite its 4400 mAh battery, while the Oppo Find X2 Pro sits in the middle. The Find X2 Pro wins the fast charging comparison with its 65W power, but it lacks wireless charging.

Price

Oppo Find X2 Pro is priced at €1199 in the global market, while you need €10 less to get the iPhone 12 Pro Max ($1099/€1189). Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra costs $1299/€1299. If you are a productivity user, you may find the S Pen very useful, that is why Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra might be the best choice for you. But if you are not I believe OPPO Find X2 Pro is a better phone than Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The iPhone 12 Pro Max looks even better from several points of view (better hardware and camera, but it lacks a high refresh rate and very fast charging) if you can live with iOS.

Samsung is gearing up to be the frontrunner of launching Flagship Smartphones in 2021. The company’s next S series of flagships, touted to be the Galaxy S21 series will have three smartphones. Amongst them, the Galaxy S21 Ultra(Tentative) is now tipped to sport a 120Hz refresh rate screen.

The new tip comes from a well-known Ice Universe who says(via Sammobile) that Galaxy S21 Ultra will have a display up to 2K resolution. For the unware, 2K is between 1080p and 4K. Depending on the size of the display panel, it can be up to 1440×3088 pixels. Plus, the tweet reads, “2K+120Hz”. This could mean that the display will support 120Hz at 2K resolution. If this is true, then it will be the first of its kind for a Samsung device.

First-ever Samsung to sport 120Hz at 2K?

This is because Samsung’s flagships or any other devices, albeit having a 120Hz refresh rate screen, don’t support it on the highest resolution. In fact, if you select 120Hz as a refresh rate on Samsung, you are basically downscaled and locked to FHD+(1080p) resolution. And its latest flagships like Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is no exception to this. The best Samsung has done so far, is having an “Adaptive Mode” on devices like the Note 20 Ultra.

This basically toggles(60Hz or 120Hz) the refresh rate based on what you do. This is probably to help the panel, and battery last longer. However, with Galaxy S21 Ultra, it looks like Samsung is going to break the barriers. If the tip is true, the next flagship could have an option to lock the 120Hz at 2K resolution which is a first in any phone.

Galaxy S21 Ultra: Specifications(Expected)

The Galaxy S21 series, as a whole, will reportedly enter production by mid-December. However, a tip says that the part production of Galaxy S21 Ultra like DVT/PVT might have already begun. Anyway, the device(SM-G998U), which has already got NFC certification, will likely sport a 6.8-inch display with a centered punch-hole.

Besides, leaked specifications of the device say the display will be dynamic AMOLED. For cameras, we can expect a new 108MP 0.8µm HM3 primary sensor, laser autofocus, and no ToF sensor inside the quad/Penta camera setup. Other expected specifications include a 40MP selfie shooter, Qualcomm Snapdragon 875/Exynos 2100 SoC based on regions, 5,000mAh battery with 60W charging, Android 11, and more. It is expected to launch on January 14 and open for sale by January 29.

The third has a very high screen-to-body ratio, stainless steel frame, and a single punch hole. In each case, you get an amazing build quality and a waterproof device with the IP68 certification, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max is waterproof up to 6 meters deep, while Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G go up to 1.5 meters. The design of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is the trendiest one, but my favorite one is the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, despite it is the biggest device from the trio.

Display

The most stunning display belongs to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G. First of all, it has a higher resolution with 1440 x 3088 pixels. Further, the refresh rate goes up to 120 Hz, while on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro it stops at 60 and 90 Hz, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has a wider diagonal and it is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus, while iPhone 12 Pro Max has Ceramic Shield to improve the protection. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and Huawei Mate 40 Pro support a stylus (S Pen and M Pen 2 respectively) which allows handwriting and drawing with up to 4096 pressure levels.

Hardware and Software

The iPhone 12 Pro Max is fueled by the most powerful and efficient processor of the trio: the Apple A14 Bionic built at 5 nm. Further, the high optimization of the iOS operating system makes the phone even faster. Despite it sports just 6 gigs of RAM, the iPhone 12 Pro Max should be the most performing device of the trio. But in each case, we are talking about top-tier flagship smartphones with no limits in every scenario. You can play the most demanding games, use the most demanding apps and you can do everything you want. Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and Huawei Mate 40 Pro run Android 10 out of the box, but Huawei Mate 40 Pro will lack Google apps in the global market, replaced by Huawei Mobile Services.

Camera

It looks like the Huawei Mate 40 Pro provides the best camera performance. It is not the most advanced device of this comparison to record videos, but it clicks the best photos. But you do not need to necessarily go for the Huawei Mate 40 Pro if you need a top camera phone: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G and iPhone 12 Pro Max are still amazing camera phones and they are even better at video recording.

Battery

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has the biggest battery, but its battery life is not so good. The Huawei Mate 40 Pro should be able to last a lot more on a single charge thanks to its more efficient display (with Full HD+ resolution and 90 Hz refresh rate) and more efficient chipset (the Kirin 9000 built at 5 nm). Unfortunately, no one tested the iPhone 12 ProMax because it will be available to purchase starting from November. Huawei Mate 40 Pro supports the fastest technology to charge the battery.

Price

The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a €1289/$1099 starting price, Huawei Mate 40 Pro costs €1249/$1480 globally, and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G begins at €1309/$1299 There is not a definitive winner of this comparison: I love the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra due to its advanced S Pen and better display, but its battery life is disappointing. Huawei Mate 40 Pro has better cameras, while iPhone 12 Pro Max offers higher performance.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra arrives with layers of Gorilla Glass Victus on the front and the rear. The layer is the successor to the Gorilla Glass 6 and offers better scratch and shatter resistance. This holds true with a recent drop test that showcased impressive results.

In a video shared on YouTube by PhoneBuff, the flagship from the South Korean tech giant was subjected to its drop test, along with Apple’s iPhone 11 Pro Max as a comparison. It is generally known that dropping a smartphone on the back can be worse than the front of the device has a camera bump, which changes the point of impact. However, the drop test found that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra faired way better than the flagship from the Cupertino based giant.

Looking at the video, the iPhone 11 Pro Max with the Gorilla Glass 6 protection cracked completely, while the Victus protection on the Note 20 Ultra saw it survive with a lot less visible damage. Only the corner of the Galaxy device was cracked due to the point of impact, while only a few minor scratches on the camera module was observed. When both smartphones were dropped on their face, the Samsung flagship outperformed the iPhone 11 Pro Max again, with the former surviving 10 drops and having just a few scratches, which is quite impressive.

Samsung‘s latest Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been put through Zack Nelson’s durability test. The evaluation sees the phone undergoing several categories of testing to determine its durability which includes scratch, bend and burn tests.

The first test is usually the scratch test beaming the searchlight on Corning’s latest Gorilla Glass Victus which features on the Not 20 Ultra first. The test using the Mohs hardness scale shows the device started getting some scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7. That is because Victu is still glass but with more strength.

The LED screen didn’t recover from the burn test which leaves a chunk of the display permanently damaged. The display still works fine and even with scratches, the under-screen fingerprint sensor still works perfectly.

Further, the phone handles the bend test pretty well with no damage when pressure is applied. The durability test also afforded us an opportunity to take a look at the S Pen stylus and other components crammed inside the body including a tiny lithium-titanate (LTO) battery at the top and charging coil near the tip of the pen.

Design

Xiaomi just does not want to release a waterproof phone. All the smartphones released by the company are not waterproof, including the Mi 10 Ultra, despite it is its most powerful flagship. With the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and the Huawei P40 Pro+, you get the IP68 certification. Further, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra offers a stainless frame and the new Gorilla Glass Victus protection for the front and rear glass. It is definitely the best device in terms of build quality, and it even comes with a more beautiful design, at least according to my tastes. But the Huawei P40 Pro+ is still very nice with its ceramic body, and it is even the most compact phone of the trio.

Display

Huawei P40 Pro+ has the most disappointing display. In a world in which the most expensive flagships offer a 120 Hz refresh rate, Huawei P40 Pro+ is still 90 Hz. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has one of the most stunning displays out there, with a Quad HD+ resolution, a high brightness, outstanding colors, and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra still comes with a great panel including a 120 Hz refresh rate and HDR10+, but it can not compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in any way. Last but not least, note that the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra supports the S Pen with a 9 ms response time.

Hardware/Software

The U.S. version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has the most advanced hardware department because it is fueled by the new Snapdragon 865+ mobile platform. But if we consider the EU version, with its Exynos 990 it falls behind the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, powered by the Snapdragon 865 paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 internal storage. All the phones run Android 10 out of the box, but the Huawei P40 Pro+ does not have Google services out of the box.

Camera

It will be a tough fight between Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. But on the paper, Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra looks more impressive. It has two 48 MP sensors including a periscope one with 120x zoom, dual OIS, a 12 MP telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and a 20 MP ultrawide sensor. The most amazing camera setup ever. But Huawei P40 Pro+ is still one of the best camera phones out there and it may outperform its rivals in some scenarios. In each case, you get an amazing camera phone, so you should not worry so much.

Battery

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has a 4500 mAh battery just like the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but it has to manage a smaller display with a lower resolution. That is why we believe it will last more on a single charge. Further, it has the fastest charging technology ever seen on a phone (up to 120W) as well as the fastest wireless charging technology (up to 50W). With the Huawei P40 Pro+, you get a smaller battery but also the fastest reverse wireless charging technology (27W).

Price

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra carries a starting price of just €650/$766 in China, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Huawei P40 Pro+ start from more than €1300 globally and about €1000 and €1175 in China, respectively. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is a more complete device due to the S Pen support, waterproof design, amazing build quality, better display. But it lacks very fast charging speeds. But did Samsung really release the best smartphone of the second half of 2020 or you can actually get something better in the market? In order to answer this question, we decided to compare it with other top-tier flagships you can find on the shelves. We chose the Huawei P40 Pro+ and the Oppo Find X2 Pro for this comparison because they are among the most expensive and advanced Android devices, just like the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.

Design

Given its unique materials (it is available in a ceramic version and a vegan leather version), the Oppo Find X2 Pro has the most attractive design. It has a more minimalistic look and it is more compact than the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. But when it comes to the build quality, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra wins the battle with its stainless steel frame and the new Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning. The Huawei P40 Pro+ is the most compact of the trio and it offers a ceramic design just like the Find X2 Pro, but with a bigger camera module and a bigger punch hole.

Display

The most interesting display in terms of image quality belongs to the Oppo Find X2 Pro. This handset and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra come with very similar display specifications, but the 10-bit panel of the Oppo Find X2 Pro can use 120 Hz even while it is using the Quad HD+ resolution, while if you want to use 120 Hz with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, you are forced to switch to 1080p. But note that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra supports the S Pen which is a huge added value for productivity. Further, it has a better ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader. Unfortunately, Huawei P40 Pro+ has both a lower display resolution and a lower refresh rate: Full HD+ and 90 Hz, respectively. But you get a 3D facial recognition system.

Hardware/Software

The most advanced hardware belongs to the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra if we consider its U.S. version. It is powered by the new Snapdragon 865+ mobile platform paired with 12 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of UFS 3.0 storage. But if we consider the EU version powered by the Exynos 990, then Oppo Find X2 Pro is a lot better with its Snapdragon 865 and 12 GB of RAM. Huawei P40 Pro+ is inferior to both with its Kirin 990 and 8 GB of RAM. Further, note that the Huawei P40 Pro+ does not include Google services in its global variant due to the U.S. ban.

Camera

Here it is a very hard battle since these devices are all top camera phones. Unfortunately, we still had no chance to test the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra thoroughly, so we can not give you a definitive verdict. On the paper, the Huawei P40 Pro+ looks like the most stunning one with its 10x optical zoom, dual OIS, and 50 MP main sensor. But Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Oppo Find X2 Pro are very close.

Battery

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a bigger 4500 mAh battery, but it has to manage a bigger display with a higher resolution, compared to the Huawei P40 Pro+. So it is not certain that it will last more than the Huawei P40 Pro+ on a single charge. The Oppo Find X2 Pro is still close in terms of battery life and it has the fastest charging technology, while Huawei P40 Pro+ has the fastest wireless charging technology.

Price

Oppo Find X2 Pro is priced €1199/$1407 globally, Huawei P40 Pro+ starts from €1399/$1642, and Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a €1329/$1300 starting price. The S Pen makes the real difference here, that is why we think a lot of people would go for the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Samsung announced the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra at its Unpacked event yesterday: it is a great handset and it brings a lot of new features to the shelves, but not all of its specifications are superior to its predecessor Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. This does not mean that the S20 Ultra is better than the Note 20 Ultra, but it depends on the kind of user you are if you are looking for a new flagship. This specs comparison will highlight all the main differences between Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and, hopefully, it will let you understand which one is better for your needs.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G vs Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

Design

Under the design point of view, despite being more productivity-oriented Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G wins the battle. It has a higher screen-to-body ratio and it comes in a wonderful matte color variant called Mystic Bronze which I consider definitely more beautiful than all the color variants of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G. Even the camera module is more elegant, and the build quality is higher. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra features the new Gorilla Glass Victus protection by Corning allowing it to survive to drops up to 2 meters on hard surfaces. Both the phones are waterproof with the IP68 certification. Despite the presence of a slot for the S Pen, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is thinner and lighter than Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Display

There are only marginal differences when it comes to display quality, so we are not focusing too much on it. But there is an important difference which will make productivity users go for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: the S Pen support. With the S Pen, you can handwrite and draw with a very high accuracy thanks to an active digitizer for the stylus, you can remotely control the smartphone via Bluetooth and you can even perform air gestures. The dedicated physical key of the S Pen also allows shooting photos remotely. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is slightly wider since the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra has a taller aspect ratio.

Specs & Software

In the Snapdragon version, the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra actually offers a better chipset than the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra. It is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ which offers a 10% boost in CPU and GPU performance, compared to the Snapdragon 865 found on the Galaxy S20 Ultra. But in the Exynos version (the one sold in the European market), Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Galaxy S20 Ultra have exactly the same SoC: Exynos 990. EU customers are disappointed: some of them even opened class actions against the Exynos 990 on the S20 Ultra, yet Samsung decided to keep the processor on the Note 20 Ultra without even releasing an upgrade. Both the phone runs Android 10 out of the box, but the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra comes with more productivity features such as wireless DeX and deep integration with Microsoft services.

Camera

The camera department of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is superior to the one of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Both the phones come with the same 108 MP main sensor, but the Galaxy S20 Ultra has a better periscope camera with a 48 MP resolution, as well as a better front camera with a 40 MP resolution. With the Galaxy S20 Ultra, you even get an additional 0.3 MP ToF 3D camera which is not present on the Note 20 Ultra.

Battery

The battery of the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is bigger and that means it offers a longer battery life, given that the two phones come with the same software and similar specifications. Despite being bigger, it still charges faster thanks to a faster charging technology (45W power against 25W of the Note 20 Ultra).

Price

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a starting price of €1329 in Europe and $1300 in the U.S., while Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra starts from €1349/$1150, but it is actually a lot more affordable thanks to street prices. If you are a productivity user and you prefer having the S Pen, then the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is actually a better option. Otherwise, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is a superior phone due to better cameras and longer battery life. Note that in the Exynos version it has the same hardware and similar display to the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, while in the Snapdragon version, it has a slightly better processor.

Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Note 20 series which has kept the rumour mills buzzing for quite a while now. The Note series for this year is made up of two models the Galaxy note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra which is the high-end model. Both models share some features including the design and an S Pen stylus but there are several differences which we’ll highlight in this article.

The Galaxy Note 20 models feature support for 5G connectivity while the S Pen stylus on board the models also see an improvement to the latency of the S Pen and a few gestures controls added. The flagship phones also bring support for fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Further, just as we predicted, the devices also feature the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus with a higher level of resistant to scratches.

Other features which the duo share include stereo speakers, Android 10 OS and IP68 water resistance. The two phones can equally record videos at 8K and support external microphone options. In addition, Dex now works wirelessly (via Miracast) and both phones have some important new Microsoft software features. There is also Bixby smart assistant support.

In terms of the designs, the Galaxy Note 20 series utilises a unique type of finish which is dubbed by Samsung as “Mystic.” The phones feature glass panels on their rear aspects but with a textured finish tailored towards keeping fingerprints from sticking to be the panel.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Hardware and Features

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra adopts a somewhat impressive and aesthetically appealing design. TheNote 20 Ultra sports a mammoth 6.9-inch OLED display with QHD+ resolution of 1440 pixels and 120Hz refresh rate support. The screen is curved at the sides, minimizing the bezels on the sides. There is a single hole punch at the top which houses the selfie camera and helps minimize the size of the top bezel. The bezel at the bottom edge is also considerably small.

On the camera aspect, the phone packs a triple camera setup at the rear including a 108 megapixels main shooter. The device also packs a periscope lens which explains why the camera bump on the Note 20 Ultra is big.

The Note 20 Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus processor paired with 12GB of RAM. There is no mention of a 16GB RAM option just as rumoured. The device is available in 256GB and 512GB storage options which can be expanded via an SD card. To keep the lights on is a 4,500mAh. The device supports both SA/NSA 5G connectivity

Samsung also tossed in an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) radio to make it easier for phones to transfer files by pointing them at each other and — eventually — to support unlocking cars.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Specs & Hardware

The Galaxy Note 20 equally presents with a massive display but slightly less than the Ultra at 6.7-inch with a resolution of 1080p. Unfortunately, the display only supports 60Hz refresh rate and no more.

In terms of the design, the Galaxy Note 20 is slightly more curved at the edge than the Ultra with more visible bezels. It is also powered by a Snapdragon 865+ chipset but there is only 128GB of storage available on all variants which can’t be expanded by microSD.

The camera setup is also different from the Ultra as it packs a 12-megapixel main camera teaming up with a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. There is also a 64-megapixel telephoto lens and its non-periscope-enabled version of Space Zoom — which goes up to 30x.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,300mAh battery. Finally, the Galaxy Note 20 will come in Bronze, Gray, and Green which the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will be available in Bronze, Gray and White colour.

Pricing & Availability

The Galaxy Note 20 sole 8GB+128GB variant carries a price tag of $999.99 despite missing out on the 120Hz refresh rate, periscope lens and expandable storage.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is priced at $1,299.99 for the 12GB+256GB variant. The price goes up to $1,499.99 for the 12GB+512GB version. Preorders for both models will commence at 12:01 AM ET on August 6th. The phones are expected to start shipping on August 21st.

Samsung has been relatively generous with details of the upcoming Galaxy Note 20 model. We have seen several leaks of the Galaxy Note 20 and even the Note 20 Ultra but here comes one that is explicit. Thanks to tipster Evan Blass, we get to see all the details of the Galaxy Note 20 well ahead of the launch.

This isn’t just a couple of photos but several gif images which give us a 360-degree look at the upcoming Galaxy Note flagship. The renders show the Note 20 won’t have a curved display design like its predecessors but will utilise an entirely flat display.

The display will hold a punch-hole design which has become a regular feature of Samsung’s recent flagship models. The single hole-punch is located at the upper mid-region of the screen.

At the rear, the device features a rectangular camera module located at the top left corner of the rear panel. The module houses a triple camera setup as well as an LED flash.

The Galaxy Note 20 series is expected to be announced during the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for August. The models will be powered by either the Snapdragon 865+ or the Exynos 992 and will have a base storage of 128GB and up to 16GB of RAM.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra official renders were accidentally shared by Samsung Russia showing the rear design upon a mystic bronze paint job. But before then, prolific tipster Ice Universe had shared pictures of the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20+ cases. The cases were taken from an angle that gives a vivid indication of the size of both models.

The pictures also show the camera bumps of both models with that of the Note20+ clearly larger, suggesting it will use the S20 Ultra’s camera or a higher version of it. A 108MP sensor is rumoured to be included, although the periscope cam digital zoom will go up to 50x.

The vanilla Galaxy Note20 most likely will use the S20/S20+ camera with the main sensor being 12MP, teaming up with a 16MP ultra-wide module and a 64MP sensor for zooming and 8k video. There are other differences between both models, the Note20+ will have a curved 1440p+ display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, while the Note20 will have a flat 1080p+ screen with 60Hz refresh rate.

Also for the Galaxy Note20+ are two different screen protectors, with thinner bezels compared to that of the Galaxy Note10+. Presumably, it will be thinner than the Note20 bezel.

Other news about the Samsung’s flagship series as released by Ice Universe, shows the Galaxy Note20+ (which might probably be called Note20 ultra), will come with a copper colour option with a slight pinkish tint. The most important is the glass that will be frosted, suggesting that the other colours will, like the current model, have a glossy finish.
