The ongoing Mobile World Congress 2022 holding in Barcelona, Spain has seen several key announcements from various manufacturers. One of the big announcements from Korean tech powerhouse Samsung is that the Galaxy Note will now come out as the Galaxy Ultra, according to its smartphone chief.

Roh-Taemoon, Samsung’s smartphone arm’s executive indicates that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will suffice for this current iteration unlike previously when a Galaxy Note will have to be thrown into the mix. The last Galaxy Note released was in 2020 when the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra came on board. The integrated Stylus design present in the Galaxy S22 Ultra flagship seems a reflection of everything that we may have expected of a Galaxy Note. This convergence may be a business decision to shore up resources and sales, as the Galaxy Note lineup has had a turbulent trajectory since they berthed in 2011.

The advent of foldable displays which Samsung also played a pioneering part via the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, has further restricted the utility of the Galaxy Note lineup, as users prefer more compact and versatile displays.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra will continue to appease the desire of Galaxy Note addicts as a more-than-worthy successor, and we expect more note-like offerings from Samsung going forward, according to Taemoon. So we can start viewing current Galaxy Note models as collector items.

The post The Galaxy Note series is discontinued, says Samsung’s smartphone chief appeared first on Gizmochina.

Inside sources have made some claims about the fate of the Samsung Galaxy Note series. The Note series had, until recently, been Samsung’s flagship offering and the only Samsung phone with the S Pen feature. As we know, the Galaxy S21 Ultra also has a stylus and Samsung may also extend it to other models.

Tipsters had been predicting that the S pen technology was being extended to other models, as plans are underfoot to replace the Note series with foldable phones of the Z series.

It would thus seem very obvious that the Galaxy Note series may be winding down, although it remains unclear whether it will come back as maybe the Galaxy Note 21 before the year runs out.

The recent insider information coming from Samsung indicates that indeed a decision has been reached to retire the Note series. The decision might be to the chagrin of fans and enthusiasts of the product.

In a tweet, well-known tipster, Ice Universe stated that the former flagship Note series may have seen its last days and that there will be no Galaxy Note 21, moving forward.

Another industry insider with some major leaks under his belt, Ross Young all but confirmed the veracity of the rumor, and he has suggested that it was possible that Samsung might release the Note 20 FE since it has undergone confirmation by the phone maker.

The sales projections for the Note and S series for 2020 fell flat as sales were hugely underwhelming, so the decision to discontinue the production of the Note series may be a cost-saving measure to revamp the sales traffic and overall outlook of the company for 2021. Indeed, the discontinuation may help firm up sales of the Galaxy S21 series.

This is the response by Samsung to an inquiry by Phonearena about the subject matter.

It does not mean that Samsung is not committed to the Note category but is expanding the Note experience across device categories. To provide the best mobile experience to all consumers, we will actively listen to consumers’ feedback and reflect it in our continued product innovation.”

The rumor mill which has been awash in recent months on the possible retirement of the Galaxy Note lineup of Samsung smartphones has finally gotten some authentication via Reuters.

What began as an unlikely news item around August 2020 has now gained sufficient traction to warrant the attention of a reliable news outlet like Reuters. It now looks almost certain that indeed Samsung will discontinue production of its Galaxy Note line. The latest confirmation of this news comes from Reuters and is based on several credible sources having sufficient knowledge of the plans of the tech giant on the matter.

The Reuters report is also in line with reports monitored this week from South Korea on the matter. The move is expected to highlight the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the declining demand for Samsung’s flagship smartphones, coupled with other operational and design challenges faced by the Galaxy Note series. Samsung is rumored to be planning to move its development resources production attention to its upcoming foldable phone range.

One of the sources that spoke to Reuters also confirmed that Samsung is planning to bring S Pen support to its Galaxy S21 Ultra and next foldable phone with the smart stylus being sold separately in the two cases.

The Samsung Galaxy Note series, at launch, was designed as a series of high-end Android phablets and smartphones primarily oriented towards pen computing in that all Galaxy Note models come with a stylus pen and had incorporated a pressure-sensitive Wacom digitizer and a generally larger screen. The Galaxy Note models also have software features that are oriented towards the stylus and their large screens, such as note-taking and digital scrapbooking apps, and split-screen capabilities for multitasking. The Note line serves as Samsung’s flagship smartphone model, positioned above the Samsung Galaxy S series.

We’ll keep our fingers crossed while monitoring further developments as Samsung is set to release the S21 series in January 2020.

A new report from South Korea has seemingly reinforced projections that Samsung‘s Galaxy S21 will be released in January 2021, and this high-end and flagship model will support the S Pen stylus.

South Korean news medium ET News says that Samsung Corp has ordered digitizers for the Galaxy S21 Ultra and mass production will commence shortly. Digitizers are sensors that are placed beneath the display of a device to ensure stylus compatibility.

There are indications that Samsung is in a rush to launch the next S series smartphones earlier than expected, as a move to counter Apple’s first 5G-enabled smartphone, the iPhone 12, and also have a share of the market. The company also wants to take advantage of the sanctions imposed by the US on Huawei, which has greatly hampered its capacity to meet its demand quotas.

The South Korean report also seems to confirm an earlier rumor that Samsung will begin the process for the replacement of the Note series with Galaxy S and Z smartphones this year.

Samsung is reportedly set to launch up to five foldable smartphones in 2021, with two or more of the foldable projected to offer S Pen integration. The company is reportedly mooting a new digitizer technology for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and will also increase the thickness of its display to enhance durability and better withstand the pressure from the stylus.

According to the grapevine, the Galaxy Note 21 will be unveiled together with the Z Fold 3 within the first half of 2021. The foldable phone release will likely dominate the waves and only one variant of the Note 21 is expected to be released.

The obvious strategy is apparently to remove from the spotlight, the next Note smartphone to be released in 2021, and possibly migrate existing Note users to the Galaxy S and Z flagships. Feelers are that Samsung will likely discontinue the Galaxy Note lineup in 2022 but there is a counter-rumor that that may not be the case. (via)
