During the launch of the Galaxy S10 series yesterday, Samsung made a startling revelation about the sales of the Galaxy S series. Samsung has been silent about sales figures all this while but the company’s CEO DJ Koh disclosed that the tech giant has sold a whopping 2 billion Galaxy smartphones since the first set of models first left the factory in 2010

This revelation explains why Samsung has remained the number one smartphone manufacturer globally The Korean company has continued to hold this title since 2012. A few years back, Samsung looked untouchable on top of the charts but not anymore. Chinese giant Huawei is presently mounting a strong push for the top spot. With the several controversies bedevilling Huawei, that may not happen anytime soon.

DJ Koh did not break down the sales figures but it is believed that it encompasses all Galaxy models ranging from the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note and perhaps the Galaxy A, Galaxy C, Galaxy J, and Galaxy On lineups among others. Also noteworthy, is the closeness of Samsung’s Galaxy phone sales to Apple’s announcement back in September that it had sold almost 2 billion iOS devices since 2007. Samsung may have even performed better as this figure is for the Galaxy phones but Apple’s figure includes iPad and iPod shipments whereas Samsung’s is just smartphones. In addition, while Apple iPhones went on sale in 2007, Samsung rolled out the first Galaxy S smartphones in 2010, three years later. So, an impressive feat it is.
