<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a> Galaxy S11 is launching on the 18th February 2020, and while most of the specs have leaked, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/12/09/purported-samsung-galaxy-s11-appears-in-first-leaked-shots/">the only real-life picture</a> that has leaked did not reveal too much, except that the camera protrusion will be rather significant. That means we are still relying on renders, and today we have an excellent render created by <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/smartphones/samsung-galaxy-s11-serie/">LetsGoDigital</a> and the famed Concept Creator, showing the<a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/samsung-galaxy-s11/"> Samsung Galaxy S11.</a></p>
<p>The renders gives us another look at the upcoming device, along with its massive camera bump. The render is perfectly in line with previous reports claiming that the rear camera hump adds 1.1mm thickness to the S11’s body. It&#8217;s definitely not the prettiest design choice, but it apparently has some pretty sophisticated camera tech behind it.</p>
<p>The Galaxy S11 will feature a large 108MP camera sensor, probably the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/09/23/5-things-you-should-know-about-xiaomi-mi-mix-5gs-108mp-camera-sensor/">ISOCELL BRIGHT HMX</a> Samsung sensor at the back. The primary sensor will be further supported by a 5x optical zoom setup on both these devices. There will also be two more sensors, an ultrawide-angle lens and a time-of-flight sensor for depth detection. Both the devices are expected to be launched in February 2020.</p>

<p>The Galaxy S11 will allegedly arrive in two different variants. One with the recently-unveiled Qualcomm <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-865">Snapdragon 865, </a>and the other with the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/exynos-990">Exynos 990</a> (Exynos 9830). Both chipsets are 5G-enabled and feature up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of native storage depending on the variant.</p>
<p>The Galaxy S11 is also likely to sport wireless charging, IP68 certification, and an in-display fingerprint scanner. Samsung is currently working on its upgraded UI, One UI 2.0, which should also make an appearance on the S11. The smartphone will run on Android 10 out-of-the-box. Samsung will offer the device with both 4G and 5G compatibility, instead of only offering 5G.</p>

But curiously, the models have been subject of leaks and rumours for a while now. The leaks keep streaming in, the latest of which is a couple of images of the front panel of the Galaxy S11. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-292760" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S11 " width="680" height="573" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11.jpg 680w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-300x253.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-498x420.jpg 498w" sizes="(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px" /></a></p>
<p>The photos show the top and bottom edges of the display panel or better put, the touchscreen digitizer panel that lies on top of the AMOLED screen. The most prominent feature on board is the punch-hole design which is located at the centre. The touchscreen design looks similar to that of the Galaxy Note 10 with just a single selfie camera. The Galaxy S11+ is expected to have a different design with the dual-selfie camera setup.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-292761" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="679" height="281" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-2.jpg 679w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/galaxy-s11-2-300x124.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 679px) 100vw, 679px" /></a></p>
<p>The bottom half of the display equally reveals a much trimmed down bezels on the chin. However, the bezel is slightly wider than that on the sides. This panel also shows the Galaxy S11 will retain the traditional curved-edge design that Samsung Galaxy models are known for.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/01/first-samples-from-the-100mp-mi-mix-alpha-is-here-we-are-not-impressed">First Samples from the 108MP Mi Mix Alpha is here &amp; we are not impressed!</a></strong></h6>
<p>As a reminder, the Galaxy S11 is expected to come with a 6.7-inch display while the S11+ will have a slightly bigger 6.9-inch display. Tipster Evan Blass had revealed that the two smaller editions come in 4G LTE and 5G editions, but the largest model (S11+) will come with 5G support. A recent report had claimed that the S11 and probably S11+ phones will carry support for 120Hz refresh rate.</p>
<p>Further, the Galaxy S11 series is expected to come in Exynos 9830 and Snapdragon 865 versions as well as up to 12GB RAM. When it comes to photography, the Galaxy S11 could be equipped with quadruple rear cameras with 108-megapixel main lens and a 48-megapixel sensor. The S11 is expected to carry support for 10x lossless zoom and up to 100x hybrid zoom. Also, the S11 is rumoured to arrive with 25W fast charging technology and a 4900mAh battery. It is speculated that the Galaxy S11 phones will go official on February 11.</p>

The patent which was published on November 6, 2019, is for a software feature titled Space Zoom.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-288276" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="770" height="508" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-770x508-637x420.jpg 637w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<p>According to details first published by LetsGoDigital, the trademark is categorized as Class 9/42 and is described as; &#8220;Smartphones; Software to zoom in to a subject without lowering image quality.&#8221;</p>
<p>There is no doubt Samsung will be looking to improve the camera on its 2020 flagship and this feature may be one of the ways it&#8217;ll do that. Samsung may want to integrate &#8216;Space Zoom&#8217; on the device but the description suggests it just a new name for the hybrid zoom function which the company is reportedly developing. Already, some smartphones like the Huawei P30 Pro, OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and the latest Reno 2 utilise the hybrid zoom. This zoom functionality delivers better image quality than the digital zoom. There are already camera samples to support the capabilities of the hybrid zoom feature.</p>

<p>Since the feature is already growing gradually into a trend, we expect other OEMs to include it in their flagship models. That may be what Samsung is trying to do. This obviously, eclipses the 5X zoom camera feature that had been rumoured to be on the Galaxy S11.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-288275" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="770" height="492" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2-300x192.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2-768x491.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2-696x445.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/galaxy-s11-space-zoom-camera-2-657x420.jpg 657w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<p>Samsung is expected to unveil the device around February 2020 during the Mobile World Congress (MWC 2020). We&#8217;ll have to wait to see if the device will indeed pack these features. Recall that the company earlier <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/01/samsung-patents-a-smartphone-embedded-ir-spectrometer-could-be-on-the-galaxy-s11/">patented a smartphone-embedded IR spectrometer</a> that is thought to also come with the S11.</p>

Now, the company is expected to go a step further with the upcoming Galaxy S11 lineup.</p>
<p>The South Korean giant has filed a new patent application in which the smartphone is sporting three camera sensors housed inside the punch-hole display on the front side. The patent has been granted to the company by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) relating to an updated punch-hole design.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-282128 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S11 Front Patent" width="1280" height="854" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent.jpg 1280w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-1068x713.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/galaxy-s11-front-patent-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px" /></p>
<p>The Galaxy S10+ and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s10-5g-sd855/">Galaxy S10 5G</a> launched earlier this year come with dual camera sensors in the punch-hole design so it would make sense for Samsung to increase the number of sensors on next year’s premium devices in order to stay ahead of the competition.</p>
<p>The current generation smartphone comes with a regular selfie camera as well as a dedicated depth sensor for improved portrait shots. If the company retains both the sensors, the additional third sensor on the upcoming Galaxy S11 series could be an ultra-wide-angle selfie camera.</p>
<p>The company could also ditch the dedicated depth sensor and instead opt for two new sensors that work together to achieve some sort of 3D facial recognition system capable, similar to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple">Apple</a>&#8216;s Face ID and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/huawei">Huawei</a>&#8216;s 3D Face Unlock.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-282129 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy S11 Render" width="1600" height="1067" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red.jpg 1600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-galaxy-s11-red-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px" /></p>
<p>The patent also hints at impressively thin bezels which makes sense for the next year&#8217;s flagship smartphones given that most smartphone makers are now aiming to offer the maximum screen-to-body ratio on their premium devices.</p>
<p>We expect that the Galaxy S11+ model will feature triple front-facing cameras while the standard Galaxy S11 will have a dual-camera setup on the front that may incorporate the ultra-wide-angle camera.</p>
<p>As for the smaller and cheaper Galaxy S11e, the phone is expected to stick to a single selfie sensor as its main competition at launch will be the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-11/">iPhone 11</a> which also incorporates one front-facing camera.</p>
<p>However, do note that there&#8217;s no confirmation that the patented design is for the upcoming Galaxy S11 series smartphones. As per the reports, the Samsung Galaxy S11 series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/07/samsung-galaxy-s11-could-launch-third-week-of-february-2020/">will be announced</a> at an Unpacked event on Tuesday, February 18, ahead of MWC 2020.</p>

However, this means we can now direct our attention towards the Galaxy S11 which will succeed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s10-5g-sd855/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S10</a>. Even though the said handset is not coming before early next year, we do have a little more specific details about its launch, thanks to a report published by Sammobile.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-244900 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4.jpeg?x10805" alt="samsung galaxy s10 plus" width="1000" height="667" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4.jpeg 1000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4-300x200.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4-768x512.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4-696x464.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/timg-4-630x420.jpeg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /></p>
<p>According to the source, the Galaxy S11 will be unveiled in the third week of February which is corresponding to the launch date of its predecessor. As observed with prior launch cycles, the highly anticipated flagship will be announced at an event in San Francisco. To be a little more specific, the Galaxy S11 lineup could debut on the 18th of February, 2020.</p>
<p>Launching the devices at this date will allow Samsung to grasp undivided attention of news and media ahead of the MWC 2020 which is scheduled to take place between 24th and 27th February.</p>
<p>While the launch of the Galaxy S11 lineup is still a couple of months away, reports and leaks about them have already started surfacing. The new smartphones are claimed to be the first smartphones to run on One UI 2.1 which will be based on Android 10.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-237491 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/galaxy-S10-1.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung galaxy S10 series" width="940" height="627" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/galaxy-S10-1.jpg 940w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/galaxy-S10-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/galaxy-S10-1-768x512.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 940px) 100vw, 940px" /></p>
<p>Besides, they are also reported to have a faster fingerprint scanner, improved camera setup which includes 5X optical zoom sensor and 108 MP primary sensor. To top it all, they will be kitted with better chipsets possibly Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 865 (expected to launch in December 2019).</p>
<p>While the claims seem legit, we will have to wait until more information is revealed via official sources.</p>

<p>The device is described as a smartphone with an infrared (IR) spectrometer. The <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/uploads/2019/09/samsung-smartphone-spectrometer.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">patent document</a> also includes several sketches that show how various sensors, including the camera function to achieve spectrometry. One of the illustrations shows how the IR spectrometer function in calculating the sugar content of fruits. The phone will also be able to detect the level of moisture on the skin, measure the CO2 level. It also features smoke detection and can help determine the content of medicine as well as to measure the freshness of food and the blood glucose level.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-280166" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="770" height="481" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2-300x187.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2-768x480.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2-696x435.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/samsung-spectrometer-galaxy-2-672x420.jpg 672w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></a></p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="Huawei launches Freelace Bluetooth Headset and Mini Speaker in India">Huawei launches Freelace Bluetooth Headset and Mini Speaker in India</a></strong></h6>
<p>If Samsung decides to equip the Galaxy S11 next year with this function, the phone won&#8217;t be the first to have such. The world&#8217;s first smartphone with an infrared spectrometer is the Changhong H2 that was first unveiled at CES 2017. A tiny spectrometer-on-a-chip was also introduced by Egyptian start-up Si-Ware. The chip is quite compact making it suitable for use on even a wearable device aside from smartphones.  Towards the end of 2017, TU Eindhoven also developed a micro-spectrometer sensor.</p>

<p>While we are not sure of the additional feature, it could be a 3D ToF lens that has been on leaks and rumours for quite some time. Moreover, the phablet will most likely have the regular Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC instead of the all-new Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform that was recently launched.</p>

<p>According to the popular tipster <a href="https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1151088735527657472" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Ice Universe</a>, the Galaxy Note 10 will have S5K2L4 as the main sensor on its triple camera setup at the back. Notably, the sensor is the same as the Galaxy S10’s primary sensor, with 12-megapixel resolution. The tipster further adds that there will be a “very technical” additional feature, and the handset could be the last Samsung flagship to employ 12MP 1/2.55″ 1.4μm sensor.</p>
<p>Next year’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/07/15/samsung-galaxy-s11-patents-leak-out-online-with-expandable-display/">Galaxy S11</a> could come with a brand new configuration. In a follow-up tweet, Ice said that next year’s phones will deliver 10x optical zoom as well as 108-megapixel cameras. This doesn&#8217;t necessarily mean the Galaxy S11 will get both features, though we&#8217;d expect to have the zoom at the very least. Companies like Huawei and Oppo are already pushing forward on the 10x optical zoom, so we fully expect Samsung to join in soon.</p>
