Samsung Galaxy S22+ teardown, durability test videos surface

PBK Reviews has posted a new video that captures the disassembling of the Samsung Galaxy S22+ smartphone. Another video from the same source also captures the durability test for the Galaxy S22+.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ disassemble video is about 9 minutes and shows a step-by-step decoupling of the smartphone with the narrator providing some guidance on the process. The first thing that was done was the removal of the rear panel from its adhesive. In the process, the camera hump of the S22+ and lenses were extricated together with the backplate as a single assembly. Up to 20 screws were removed to reveal the inner part of the phone after carefully taking out the NFC and wireless charging coils.

The battery cables were then disconnected, which enables the removal of the main board of the Galaxy S22+. The battery was removed using isopropyl alcohol after the extraction of the daughterboards. The alcohol was meant to loosen the adhesive holding the component in place. The two auxiliary antennas will come to view after the separation and they are compatible with mmWave 5G signals. The screen decoupling is a bit more seamless than previous iterations of the Samsung Galaxy and it comes apart after the application of heat to the perimeter of the display.

The repairability score of the Samsung Galaxy S22+ was 7.5/10 which is quite impressive. This means that the device could be decoupled or parts replaced with less effort as compared to some of its predecessors and other models with a low repairability score.

Samsung on Wednesday has officially unveiled the Galaxy S22 series. The smartphone series comprises the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. While the S22 Ultra is indeed the star of the show, let’s not overlook the other S22 siblings. In this story, we’ll take a look at the S22 and S22+.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is priced starting at $799, while the S22+ starts at $999. Both come in two configurations — 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The duo comes in four colors Phantom Black, Phantom White, Phantom Green, and Pink Gold.

Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ Specifications

Coming to the specifications, Samsung has retained the predecessor S21’s design for the new S22 and S22+. Especially at the rear, we get to see the same camera-island style. The Galaxy S22 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a Full-HD+ resolution. The S22+, on the other hand, has a larger 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel.

Both come with a 120Hz refresh rate and have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. As for the built, the phones have Armor Aluminum frame. The S22 has 1300 nits of brightness, whereas, the S22+ supports 1750 nits brightness.

In terms of cameras, both come equipped with a triple camera system at the rear. This time around, Samsung replaced the 64MP main lens from the predecessor to the new 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor. The primary lens provides 12.5MP pixel binned images.

It also has a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a 13mm focal length. Lastly, there’s also the 10MP telephoto sensor with 30x Space Zoom and 3x optical Zoom. Upfront, both have a 10MP selfie snapper.

Furthermore, the duo gets the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 SoC(depending on the region), which is the same as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The major difference between the two is in the battery department. The Galaxy S22 packs a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, whereas, the Galaxy S22+ gets a 4,500mAh battery and has a 45W fast charging support.

Samsung claims that the vanilla S22 can offer up to 54 hours of audio playback, while the Plus can provide 69 hours of audio playback. Both have a 15W wireless fast charging support. The phones run on the latest OneUI 4.1 on top of the Android 12 OS.

Samsung is all set to unveil the Galaxy S22 series on February 9 globally and ahead of its launch, almost all the details have been revealed. The Galaxy S22 series will employ the Exynos 2200 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, depending on the region. Just like every year, Samsung was expected to offer Exynos-powered S22 units in India. However, now a new tip from Ishan Agarwal(via Pricebaba) reveals that the S22 series for the Indian market will have the hankered Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

Having a Snapdragon chipset in the Galaxy S-series flagship was only a wish for several Samsung fans in India. Seems like, the wish would finally get fulfilled this year, thanks to the Snapdragon-powered S22 units in India.

Notably, this time around, there will be the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. The design of the former two models is similar to the existing S21 series phones. But, we’ll get to see a new design for the Ultra. It will be almost like a boxy Galaxy Note-like design.

As for the specs sheet, there will be a 6.1-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel on the vanilla S22, a 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen on the S22+, and lastly a large 6.8-inch QHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel on the S22 Ultra. The trio will get a 120Hz refresh rate.

The S22 and S22+ will have a triple camera system with a 12MP + 50MP + 10MP triple camera system. The S22 Ultra, on the other hand, will feature a 108MP + 10MP + 10MP + 12MP quad-camera system. 3700mAh, 4500mAh, and 5000mAh will be the battery capacities of the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, respectively. The S22+ and S22 Ultra will have 45W fast charging, whereas, the vanilla will have a 25W fast charging.

Samsung’s flagship offerings for 2022 are expected to be unveiled on February 9. However, that has not stopped a raft of leaks relating to the Galaxy S22. The latest leak is a promo video for the device together with some marketing images of the device. The new leaks indicate that there may not be any slowdown in the buildup to the launch of the Galaxy S22 lineup.

A South Korean tipster tweeted the promo video and marketing images of the S22 showing that three models will debut in the S22 lineup namely the Galaxy S22, the Galaxy S22 Plus, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra which is the highest model in the lineup. The Galaxy S22 will have a 6.1-inch display, while the Galaxy S22 Plus sports a 6.6-inch screen, and the S22 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch display. There are no new details from the leak, however, as much has been said about the Galaxy S22 series including the camera setup, display, battery, chipset, and memory configuration.

A previous leak had indicated that pre-orders will begin on February 14, while sales commence on February 25. Going by the massive hype that has trailed the Galaxy S22 series, there is a possibility of limited availability so the early birds will certainly get the available units.

Alleged Samsung Galaxy S22+ official renders and key specs leaked

Samsung Galaxy S22 series has been the subject of several rumors in recent weeks. Days back, it was hinted that all the three S22 models will have the Gorilla Glass Victus+ adorning at least one of their sides. Today, some official renders of the Galaxy S22+ have surfaced online, together with some specs details of the successor to the S21+.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series consists of the S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra, and all three models are expected to highlight significant improvements from their respective predecessors. A tipster Isha Agarwal has shared some stunning renders of what the S22+ looks like. It features a single and central punch hole for the front camera, and its look is accentuated by uniformly narrow bezels with the power and volume buttons on the right side of the smartphone.

The renders indicate a triple rear camera setup for the Galaxy S22+, with Samsung’s logo stylishly placed at the lower end of the device’s rear. The 50MP wide-angle camera of the S22+ features Adaptive Pixel technology for improved picture and video performance.

The smartphone’s display will have 1,750 nits peak brightness, adaptive refresh rate, and it will be slightly heavier than the S22, but a bit lighter than the S22 Ultra. The Galaxy S22+ has a weight of 195g and a 4,500 mAh battery which can be charged via the USB-C port at 45W. The 45W fast charging support for the S22+ may be a tad farther from the industry leaders but seems an improvement from the S21+.

There was however no mention of the presence of Gorilla Glass Victus + in the Galaxy S22+. There are still some grey areas still not known about the Galaxy S22+ including release date, pricing, and other important features.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Galaxy S22 camera and display specs revealed

Rumors are rife that we might see this year’s Samsung flagship series, the Galaxy S22 early next month. Despite getting leaked several times, Samsung is yet to tease it officially. Well before it even happens, there’s yet another leak and this time around we get to learn the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s camera hardware. Additionally, the display details of the vanilla S22 were also unwrapped.

XEETECHCARE affirms that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will borrow the design from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Reportedly, the S22 Ultra will have almost the same design as the Note 20 Ultra but with some slight changes such as the tweak on the camera island.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Render Leak via Evan Blass

The smartphone is touted to come with a quad-camera system at the rear. It will go by a 108MP Super Clear lens with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS support. The lens is said to restrict any reflection or glares, hence the naming.

It will be accompanied by a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom and f/2.4 aperture. There will be another 10MP lens with 10x zoom and an f/4.9 aperture. Lastly, there will be a 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. Upfront, it will equip a 40MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture.

Furthermore, the leak also reveals the possible specs of the phone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to come with a 6.8-inch QHD+(3080 x 1440 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It will be powered by the 4nm Exynos 2200 SoC, at least for some markets.

It will be paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of onboard storage. As for the battery, the phone is tipped to have a 5,000mAh cell. The S22 Ultra, just like the S21 Ultra, will also have an S-Pen support. The smartphone may come in four color variants like the Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, and Burgundy.

Moreover, some specs for the vanilla Galaxy S22 were also revealed. The smartphone may come with a 6.1-inch FHD+(2340 X 1080 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and have a triple rear camera system. The device could arrive in Phantom Black, Phantom White, and Green colors.

A UK retailer already listed the Galaxy S22 series accessories on its website

Samsung Galaxy S22 series will have several accessories and some of these have been spotted in a UK retailer’s listing. It is indicated that there will be dozens of Galaxy S22 accessories that customers could choose from. A phone case is an important protective accessory for the device and box.co.uk has already listed a massive 66 official phone cases in different colors for the Galaxy S22 series.

The United Kingdom retailer also stated that the signature Galaxy S22 Ultra’s S Pen will come in four colors as the smartphone itself namely dark red, green, white, and black. There could likely be housing for the S Pen, as the cases displayed by the retailer did not provide such an addition. While it could be speculated that there may no casing for the S Pen, it is most probable that Samsung will provide a silo within the smartphone’s casing with the opening on the bottom of the phone. That will bear a close semblance to what we find in the Galaxy Note.

There are a variety of phone cases that were listed for the Galaxy S22 lineup with prices also attached, but these prices could just be a placeholder pending when the actual pricing will be available. We already know that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be powered by either the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 chipsets, with the Qualcomm chip deployed in China, the United States, and Canada.

The raft of accessories available for the Galaxy S lineup has been linked to its popularity across markets. The UK retailer’s listing further increases the tempo of expectation for the release of the Galaxy S22 lineup.

Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup to come in Exynos 2200 & Snapdragon 898 versions

Samsung Galaxy S22 series has been the subject of numerous leaks and rumors in the last 48 hours. Ahead of the next Galaxy Unpacked Event in January 2022, there had been a flurry of leaks and renders related to the Galaxy S22 lineup. The latest rumor is that the Samsung Galaxy S22 series will be powered by either Qualcomm or Exynos chipsets.

Previously, it had been speculated that only Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips will be present in the Galaxy S22 series. This much was leaked by a former Samsung employee. Another tipster then hinted that some regions will indeed see the Exynos 2200 in their Galaxy S22 models. It will seem that both leaks revealed one aspect of the matter.

A news item from Korea has revealed that Samsung will use both the Snapdragon 898 and Exynos 2200 chips in the new Galaxy S22 series. Obviously, in line with its tradition, Samsung will offer Snapdragon-equipped models to customers in the US, while Europe, South Korea, and other regions will be getting the Exynos 2200 versions of the same models. Samsung’s decision on different chipsets globally has attracted lots of flak from several quarters. However, the company has weathered the storm and now has a strong partnership with AMD aimed at strengthening the Exynos chips that will adorn its smartphones.

Geekbench performance numbers for the Snapdragon 898 and the Exynos 2200 are expected not to be significantly different. Another leak has indicated though that Exynos-equipped Galaxy S22 models may lag behind Snapdragon-equipped models in graphics, although the claim is not definitive.

Samsung could reintroduce vapor chamber cooling for the Galaxy S22 lineup

A recent report from Taiwan claims that Samsung’s supply chain partners and suppliers are preparing to develop vapor chamber cooling solutions for Samsung’s lineup of smartphones from 2022. Specifically, the vapor chamber cooling solution could be deployed in the Galaxy S22 scheduled for unveiling in 2022.

As smartphones become thinner and lightweight, with lots of internal components and features that ramp up the temperature of the devices while in operation, the need for robust cooling solutions cannot be glossed over. While throttling the smartphone processor is bound to reduce overall temperature, the flipside implies that the device will not operate optimally, performance-wise. Since device overheating is a serious operational challenge for smartphone manufacturers, it is always a priority to evolve solutions to the challenge that will provide smartphone peak performance while also extending battery life.

The vapor chamber cooling solution in smartphones has been deployed previously in some Samsung products like the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20. It seems to be a better cooling solution than the traditional method prevalent in most smartphones. The vacuum chamber approach entails placing a flat vacuum-sealed metal canister dissipating chamber within the smartphone that efficiently transforms the generated heat through a vaporization mechanism. The vapor chamber cooling solution effectively lowers the device temperature faster than a heat sink or even the graphite thermal pad used in some models.

With a more efficient cooling mechanism, you are guaranteed an optimal performance of the smartphone’s chipset even under situations that could ramp up the heat generation like gaming and other processor-intensive applications. Battery life is also optimized with a better cooling mechanism.

There has been no formal indication from Samsung about its plans to reintroduce the vapor chamber cooling solution to its 2022 lineup. So at best, this remains speculation for now.
