Samsung on Wednesday has officially unveiled the Galaxy S22 series. The smartphone series comprises the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. While the S22 Ultra is indeed the star of the show, let’s not overlook the other S22 siblings. In this story, we’ll take a look at the S22 and S22+.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is priced starting at $799, while the S22+ starts at $999. Both come in two configurations — 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The duo comes in four colors Phantom Black, Phantom White, Phantom Green, and Pink Gold.

Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ Specifications 

Coming to the specifications, Samsung has retained the predecessor S21’s design for the new S22 and S22+. Especially at the rear, we get to see the same camera-island style. The Galaxy S22 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a Full-HD+ resolution. The S22+, on the other hand, has a larger 6.6-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel.

Both come with a 120Hz refresh rate and have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. As for the built, the phones have Armor Aluminum frame. The S22 has 1300 nits of brightness, whereas, the S22+ supports 1750 nits brightness.

In terms of cameras, both come equipped with a triple camera system at the rear. This time around, Samsung replaced the 64MP main lens from the predecessor to the new 50MP Samsung GN5 sensor. The primary lens provides 12.5MP pixel binned images.

It also has a 12MP ultra-wide lens with a 13mm focal length. Lastly, there’s also the 10MP telephoto sensor with 30x Space Zoom and 3x optical Zoom. Upfront, both have a 10MP selfie snapper.

Furthermore, the duo gets the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 SoC(depending on the region), which is the same as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The major difference between the two is in the battery department. The Galaxy S22 packs a 3,700mAh battery with 25W fast charging support, whereas, the Galaxy S22+ gets a 4,500mAh battery and has a 45W fast charging support.

Samsung claims that the vanilla S22 can offer up to 54 hours of audio playback, while the Plus can provide 69 hours of audio playback. Both have a 15W wireless fast charging support. The phones run on the latest OneUI 4.1 on top of the Android 12 OS.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event where the Galaxy S22 lineup is expected to be released, Samsung may have teased a live image of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is 5G-compatible, has an innovative digital S Pen system, and comes with several other features that underscore its flagship status. The first photo sample from the Galaxy S22 Ultra was posted by Samsung across its social media official handles. The photo was taken during the opening ceremony of the ongoing 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.

The photo of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra was shot in low light but reflected a powerful camera system, as the image looked sharp and crisp. Indeed the image speaks a lot about the impressive Galaxy S22 Ultra, further increasing the expectation of Galaxy faithful across the globe. Although there is no specific allusion that the photo came from the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it will be highly unusual for Samsung to tweet such a photo with days to the Unpacked event that will be focused on the S22 Ultra. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S22 Ultra continue up to the unveiling and a $50 credit is part of the incentives available.

The camera is one of the most anticipated features of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Samsung had focused on its foldable flagships – the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 in 2021 and will be turning attention to the S22 lineup of non-foldable models with a lot of extended features. A 108MP main camera sensor is expected to signpost the Galaxy S22 Ultra, together with a 12MP sensor, an ultra-wide lens, a pair of 10MP sensors, and a pair of telephoto lenses. Optical zoom is possible with the Galaxy S22 Ultra up to 100x. We’ll keep track with Samsung as the countdown to the Unpacked event goes by the hour.

Rumors are rife that we might see this year’s Samsung flagship series, the Galaxy S22 early next month. Despite getting leaked several times, Samsung is yet to tease it officially. Well before it even happens, there’s yet another leak and this time around we get to learn the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s camera hardware. Additionally, the display details of the vanilla S22 were also unwrapped.

XEETECHCARE affirms that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will borrow the design from the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Reportedly, the S22 Ultra will have almost the same design as the Note 20 Ultra but with some slight changes such as the tweak on the camera island.

The smartphone is touted to come with a quad-camera system at the rear. It will go by a 108MP Super Clear lens with an f/1.8 aperture and OIS support. The lens is said to restrict any reflection or glares, hence the naming.

It will be accompanied by a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x zoom and f/2.4 aperture. There will be another 10MP lens with 10x zoom and an f/4.9 aperture. Lastly, there will be a 12MP ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 aperture. Upfront, it will equip a 40MP shooter with an f/2.2 aperture.

Furthermore, the leak also reveals the possible specs of the phone. The Galaxy S22 Ultra is said to come with a 6.8-inch QHD+(3080 x 1440 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It will be powered by the 4nm Exynos 2200 SoC, at least for some markets.

It will be paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of onboard storage. As for the battery, the phone is tipped to have a 5,000mAh cell. The S22 Ultra, just like the S21 Ultra, will also have an S-Pen support. The smartphone may come in four color variants like the Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, and Burgundy.

Moreover, some specs for the vanilla Galaxy S22 were also revealed. The smartphone may come with a 6.1-inch FHD+(2340 X 1080 pixels) Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and have a triple rear camera system. The device could arrive in Phantom Black, Phantom White, and Green colors.
