Over the period of my use, I appreciated how the display maintained its quality, with no noticeable burn-in despite heavy use of apps like YouTube and Google Maps. Switching to Vivid mode enhanced colors for media consumption, though I stuck with Natural mode for editing tasks to ensure accuracy.

The integrated S Pen continues to be a unique selling point and a feature I now can’t live without. From quick notes in meetings and annotating PDFs to precise photo editing, it enhances productivity significantly. The latency is practically non-existent, making the writing experience feel incredibly natural, and I used it frequently for note-taking during meetings and quick sketches. However, the lack of Bluetooth support for Air Actions was a minor letdown, as I occasionally missed the remote control functionality from previous models.

Performance

Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite “for Galaxy,” the S25 Ultra handled everything I threw at it with ease. From multitasking with multiple apps (Chrome, Discord, and MS Word simultaneously) to playing demanding games like Genshin Impact and Call of Duty Mobile, the phone never stuttered. The overclocked chip offered a slight edge over other Snapdragon 8 Elite devices, and I noticed snappy performance even during intensive tasks like 4K video editing. I didn’t encounter any slowdowns or overheating, even during extended gaming sessions or when using DeX mode to connect to an external monitor for work. This DeX is quite handy when I am travelling and still want to work a bit at the hotel. The 12GB of RAM and storage options (I used the 512GB model) ensured I never ran out of space for photos, videos, and apps.

I own a Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is already an impressive phone, but the battery performance is one department that’s a bit of a letdown. The S25 Ultra’s 5,000mAh battery delivered solid performance, typically lasting a full day with around 8 to 9 hours of screen-on time even with QHD+ resolution. On my typical day—starting at 7am with emails, social media, Spotify streaming, and occasional gaming—I usually ended with 20 to 30% battery by 10pm.

On lighter days, I could stretch it to nearly two days by reducing the screen resolution, which pushed battery life to around 18 hours and 35 minutes in testing scenarios. So, while the battery size did not increase compared to the previous generation, Samsung did manage to pull out more battery life on the S25.

Charging speed at 45W was decent, reaching 71% in 30 minutes. However, I wish Samsung had adopted faster charging or explored carbon-silicon batteries. Wireless charging worked reliably, but the lack of Qi2 magnet support was a missed opportunity for better accessory compatibility.

Camera

The camera system is arguably the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s headline feature, and it lived up to the hype over the long term. Additionally, the overhauled camera app interface made it easier to navigate settings, and I appreciated the extra screen space for framing shots.

• Main 200MP Sensor: Photos are consistently sharp, detailed, and vibrant in good lighting. Even in challenging mixed lighting conditions, the dynamic range is excellent. I rarely shot at the full 200MP, but the pixel-binning for 12MP shots truly maximizes light capture and detail.
• Ultrawide: The ultrawide lens produces excellent results, maintaining color consistency with the main sensor and showing minimal distortion, making it great for landscapes or group shots.
• Telephoto Lenses (3x and 5x): This is where Samsung truly dominates. The (10MP telephoto) 3x optical zoom is perfect for portraits and bringing subjects closer without quality loss. The (50MP persicope) 5x optical zoom is a marvel, allowing me to capture incredible detail from a distance. The improved digital zoom, leveraging AI, meant that even 30x or 50x shots were surprisingly usable for social media—something I wouldn’t have said for older models.
• 12MP Selfie: The front camera captures sharp and natural-looking selfies with good dynamic range. It performs well in video calls and supports 4K video recording.
• Low Light: Nightography has seen significant advancements. Images in low light are brighter, with less noise and better detail retention than previous generations. It’s not magic, but it certainly closes the gap with dedicated cameras.
• Video: Video recording capabilities are superb, offering stable, high-quality footage up to 8K. The improved stabilization makes handheld recording very smooth, and the audio capture is clear.

My only minor gripe is that sometimes the processing can be a bit aggressive, leading to slightly oversaturated colors, but this is a subjective preference and can often be tweaked.

Software, AI, and Other Features

Samsung’s promise of seven years of software and security updates gave me confidence that the phone will remain relevant through 2032. One UI 7, running on Android 15, felt more polished and customizable than ever before. The AI-enhanced editing tools (like object removal and generative fill) were fun and surprisingly accurate. For example, I removed a distracting sign from a vacation photo, and the AI recreated the background seamlessly.

Galaxy AI’s call transcription feature was a game-changer for work, allowing me to review meeting calls with AI-generated summaries that saved time. Photo editing tools, like removing objects or generating missing parts of an image, worked impressively well, though I was mindful of ethical concerns around such powerful edits.

I really liked the Now Bar on the Galaxy S25 Ultra because it brings real-time info right to the lock screen without needing to unlock the phone. Whether it’s checking a running timer, controlling music, or getting navigation updates, everything is just a tap away. It’s super convenient and feels like a smarter way to stay updated throughout the day.

Over time, I relied on the AI for specific tasks (like summarizing long emails) but didn’t fully integrate it into my daily workflow due to its hit-or-miss nature. Still, Samsung’s AI suite felt more advanced than competitors’ offerings, making the S25 Ultra stand out.

5G performance was consistently strong, and Wi-Fi 7 (or Wi-Fi 6E) provided blazing-fast speeds at home. The stereo speakers are loud and clear, offering a good audio experience for media. Haptic feedback is precise and satisfying, adding a premium feel to interactions.

Should you buy it?

The Galaxy S25 Ultra is a stellar phone that excels in most areas, from its gorgeous display and versatile camera to its smooth performance and innovative AI features. After using it for a couple of months, it felt like a reliable companion that adapted to my needs, whether for work, photography, or entertainment. If you’re upgrading from an older device (like the S23 Ultra or earlier) or switching from another brand, the S25 Ultra is a fantastic choice, especially with its seven-year update commitment. Particularly, I like it more than any other flagship for continuing to feature the S Pen.

For power users, the Vivo X200 Pro or Xiaomi 15 Ultra might offer competing hardware, but the S25 Ultra’s polished software, AI capabilities, and global availability make it the best Android phone for most people. At $1,299.99 (Rs 1,29,999 in India), it’s pricey, but its long-term reliability and feature set justify the cost for those seeking a premium experience.

Why did I use it for only four months? Because it was a review unit that had to be returned to the brand.

Xiaomi and Samsung are back with their latest premium flagships, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Both phones promise top-tier specs, advanced cameras, and the latest processors. But how do they stack up against each other? Let’s break it down.

Design and Build

Neither Xiaomi nor Samsung is reinventing the wheel this year. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra sticks to a curved front and metal frame, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra continues with its now familiar industrial design. 

The Galaxy S25 Ultra sports a titanium frame which makes it both lighter and more durable than aluminum. It also features Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back and Corning Gorilla Armor 2 on the front. And at 218g, it’s slightly lighter than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

Xiaomi is using an aerospace-grade glass fiber or eco-leather on the back of the 15 Ultra. Its aluminum frame might not be as tough as titanium, but it keeps the weight in check at 226g–229g. It’s a bit thicker at 9.4mm, likely due to its 6000mAh battery.

Both devices are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance, so they can handle the occasional dunk without issue.

Display

In terms of display, both offer LTPO AMOLED panels with QHD+ resolution and adaptive 120Hz refresh rates. The Xiaomi 15 Ultra edges ahead in terms of brightness with a 3,200-nit peak compared to S25 Ultra’s 2,600 nits. That said, let’s not get too caught up in the numbers—both should be plenty bright for outdoor use.

One standout feature of the S25 Ultra is, of course, the S Pen—whether you actually use it or not. Samsung did remove its Bluetooth functionality this year, which is a bit of a downgrade, but it’s still handy for quick notes or doodling when boredom strikes. Plus, the S25 Ultra’s display gets an anti-reflective coating, making it even easier on the eyes.

Performance

The new flagships run on Snapdragon 8 Elite (3nm), the latest and most powerful chip from Qualcomm. However, Samsung’s variant is clocked slightly higher, with its Oryon V2 Phoenix L cores hitting 4.47 GHz compared to 4.32 GHz on the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

In real-world use though, the difference is unlikely to be noticeable. Both devices handle gaming, multitasking, and AI-driven features with ease.

On the software side, Samsung promises 7 years of Android updates with One UI 7, giving it a serious longevity advantage. Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2 offers a slick experience but only comes with 4 years of major updates.

Cameras

Cameras are where these two flagships show stark differences.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra keeps its 200MP primary sensor, but Xiaomi has gone for a 1-inch type 50MP sensor with a wider f/1.6 aperture, which should capture more light.

For zoom capabilities, the S25 Ultra has:

• 3x optical zoom (10MP sensor)
• 5x periscope zoom (50MP sensor)

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra offers:

• 3x optical zoom (50MP sensor)
• 4.3x periscope zoom (200MP sensor)

Xiaomi’s Leica-tuned optics and larger periscope sensor should provide better detail and natural bokeh, while Samsung’s AI processing and Best Face feature cater to casual users.

On the selfie front, Samsung sticks with 12MP, while Xiaomi opts for 32MP, giving it an edge in resolution.

Battery and Charging

The Xiaomi 15 Ultra packs a 6000mAh battery, making it one of the largest in a flagship phone. But that’s for the Chinese variant; the global model is expected to get a slightly smaller 5,410mAh cell, which still beats the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 5,000mAh.

Xiaomi also crushes charging speeds with 90W wired and 80W wireless charging, compared to Samsung’s 45W wired and 15W wireless. This means the Xiaomi 15 Ultra can fully charge in under 40 minutes, while the S25 Ultra takes nearly an hour. 

Extra Features

Alongside S-Pen, DeX mode is an add-on you get on every Samsung flagship that lets you use your phone like a desktop. If you’re into productivity tools, this could be very useful for you.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi offers two-way satellite communication, which lets you send messages even without cellular reception. That could be lifesaving in emergencies.

Both phones have Wi-Fi 7, eSIM support, and ultrasonic fingerprint scanners.

Price and Availability

The Galaxy S25 Ultra starts at ₹129,999 in India or $1,300 in the US. Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is currently only available in China, with a global launch set for March 2. Still for reference, it starts at 6,499 yuan (around $893) in China.

Final Thoughts

• If you want the best stylus experience, longer software support, and a refined AI-powered camera, the Galaxy S25 Ultra remains a solid pick.
• If you prefer faster charging, more aggressive camera hardware, and a slightly lower price, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is compelling—if you can get it in your region.

Both phones are iterative upgrades rather than any major innovations. Unless you’re upgrading from a much older model, last year’s Xiaomi 14 Ultra or Galaxy S24 Ultra may still hold up well. But if you’re choosing between the two, it’s a matter of whether you value hardware advancements or Samsung’s ecosystem consistency more.

With a score of 160, it leads both global and ultra-premium categories. Google’s Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pro tied for second (158), followed by Honor’s Magic 6 Pro and Samsung’s S25+ and S25 (157 each). The S24 Ultra trailed at 155. We have shared the key points of the DxOMark report below.

Outdoor Readability

As per the report, the S25 Ultra offers excellent outdoor readability, featuring a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and an effective anti-reflective coating. DXOMARK’s tests confirm its superior readability in bright sunlight. While it may appear slightly bright in dim environments, its outdoor performance is exceptional.

Color Accuracy

Improvements in color fidelity are notable. Compared to the S24 Ultra, the S25 Ultra shows better color accuracy in faithful mode and reduced color shifts at various viewing angles. Despite optimized blue-light management, higher emissions during night mode prevent it from receiving DXOMARK’s Eye Comfort label.

Video Performance

The device shows significant progress in video performance, especially in low-light conditions where the S24 Ultra had challenges. The S25 Ultra now features a 24-nit HDR peak luminance in low light, enhancing viewing comfort and maintaining well-adjusted local contrasts indoors and in dim settings. Frame handling is efficient, with no frame drops recorded during playback tests.

Touch Interaction

Touch interactions are generally smooth for web browsing and gallery navigation. However, the display occasionally registers unintended touches and lags slightly behind other ultra-premium rivals in touch responsiveness.

While on the topic of displays, Samsung confirmed at its Galaxy S25 event that it’s developing a tri-fold phone, which is expected to launch in Q3 2025 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. Analyst Ross Young reports it will have a 6.49-inch cover display and a 10-inch unfolded screen, matching the Z Fold 7’s cover size.

Both aim to remove unwanted elements from your photos, but they approach the task differently. So, which one is better? After spending considerable time experimenting with both, I’m here to share my insights and help you decide which tool is right for you.

Understanding the tools

Both the Galaxy AI Eraser and the Object Eraser can produce good results. However, the key difference lies in how they achieve those results. The Object Eraser, a more traditional approach, essentially tries to patch or clone pixels from the surrounding area to fill in the gap left by the removed object. It’s like a digital version of using the clone stamp tool in Photoshop.

The Galaxy AI Eraser, on the other hand, leverages the power of generative AI. It doesn’t just copy pixels; it understands the context of the image and generates new content to seamlessly replace the removed object. This makes a significant difference, especially when dealing with complex backgrounds or objects. 

Comparing the results

To illustrate the difference between the Galaxy AI Eraser and the Object Eraser, I’ve included three images above. The first is the original photo. The second demonstrates the result achieved with the Galaxy AI Eraser, and the third shows the image after using the Object Eraser. As you can see, the AI Eraser typically achieves a clean removal in just one or two attempts, while the Object Eraser often requires a few more steps to reach a comparable result. This efficiency highlights the power of generative AI.

The AI Eraser “understands” the image context in a way traditional object removal tools simply can’t, allowing it to seamlessly reconstruct the missing areas. It’s also important to note that because the AI Eraser generates new content, the resulting image is marked with a watermark indicating “AI-generated content.”

How to access Galaxy AI Eraser and Object Eraser

To access the Galaxy AI Eraser, open an image in the Gallery and tap the Galaxy AI icon. Then, draw a lasso around the area you want to edit. Once selected, you can move or delete it as needed. As can be seen in the first image of this post, it provides the “Sketch to Image” option, which can be used to leverage the power of generative AI to add new elements to the image.

Galaxy AI can also be used in a couple of other ways to enhance the image. When you open an image within the Gallery and swipe up, it will suggest some AI-driven options to modify the image. For instance, swiping up on the above image brought up four options:

• Remaster: Enhances the overall quality of the image, often improving brightness, contrast, and sharpness. 
• Live Effect: Adds dynamic effects to the image, such as light trails or motion blur. 
• Erase Reflections: Specifically targets and removes unwanted reflections from the image.
• Background Effect: Allows you to change or blur the background of the image.

Accessing the Object Eraser

The Object Eraser can be accessed by opening an image from the Gallery and hitting the four dots icon. Apart from erasing certain portions of the image, it provides some other options like Erase Shadows and Erase Reflections.  

Tips for Best Results

Here are a few tips to maximize your success with both the AI Eraser and Object Eraser:

• For complex removals, start with the AI Eraser. If the result isn’t perfect, you can then use the Object Eraser for fine-tuning.
• Zoom in for precise selections, especially when using the Object Eraser. Accurate selections are key for seamless results.
• Don’t be afraid to experiment! Both tools are forgiving—if you’re not happy with the result, you can undo the changes or save a copy. If you’ve made multiple edits to the same image, you can always tap “Revert to original” from the three-dot menu at the top-right corner to restore the original version.
• Remember that the AI Eraser generates new content, so the results might sometimes be unpredictable. Always review the edited image carefully.

These advancements require substantial R&D investment, driving up prices. Premium components, such as high-resolution displays, advanced camera systems, and faster memory, also add to the expense. Flagships use the latest, driving up material costs.

Marketing and branding also play a significant role. Flagships are positioned as premium, aspirational products. Companies invest heavily in marketing to create exclusivity and desirability, influencing perceived value and justifying higher prices. The prestige of owning the latest model allows manufacturers to command a premium.

Software complexity adds to the cost. Flagships often include advanced features like AI-powered camera enhancements, sophisticated UIs, and enhanced security. Developing and maintaining this complex software requires substantial investment, factored into the phone’s price.

Finally, global economic factors, like currency fluctuations and supply chain disruptions, can influence flagship prices. These factors are often outside manufacturers’ control but impact the final cost.

Midrange phones offer better value

While flagships, such as the iPhone 16 series, Samsung Galaxy S-series, Oppo Find X-series, Vivo X-series have become more expensive over the years, midrange phones priced under Rs 15,000 to Rs 30,000, such as the Poco X7 series, Nothing Phone 2a series, iQOO Z9s series, Samsung Galaxy F55, and so on, have improved dramatically. Even a sub-Rs 9,000 priced Poco C75 sports a flagship-like rear design.

Decreasing component costs are a major factor. As technologies mature, manufacturing costs for components like processors, memory, and displays decrease, allowing manufacturers to incorporate better components into budget phones without significant cost increases.

Intense competition also plays a crucial role. The budget phone market is highly competitive, forcing manufacturers to offer better features and performance at lower prices. Consumers benefit from this competition, gaining access to capable devices at affordable prices.

Better SoCs, software, and flagship-like features on mid-range phones

System-on-a-chip (SoC) technology has further improved mid-range phones. SoCs integrate multiple components, like the processor, GPU, and memory controller, onto a single chip. This reduces manufacturing costs and complexity, allowing manufacturers to offer powerful, efficient devices at lower prices. SoCs designed for mid-range and budget devices have become increasingly powerful, narrowing the performance gap with flagships.

Open-source software like Android is another factor. Android provides a free and customizable OS, reducing software development costs for budget phone manufacturers. The mature Android ecosystem also means budget phone users have access to a vast library of apps and services.

To attract the attention of the masses, brands have adopted the strategy of offering flagship-like features at an affordable price. For instance, telephoto or periscope cameras, which were once limited to premium phones, are now available in budget-friendly models. A good example is last year’s Realme 13 Pro+, which is currently selling for Rs 26,999. Apart from this, there are a couple of other options, such as the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, Realme 14 Pro+, and Motorola Edge 50 Pro between Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000 price range.

Diminishing returns

The diminishing returns of flagship features also play a role. While flagships boast cutting-edge features, their practical benefits aren’t always significant for the average user. For example, the difference between a 120Hz and 90Hz display may not be noticeable to most. Similarly, marginal camera improvements beyond a certain point may not justify the added cost. Budget phones, with slightly older but still capable technology, can offer a similar user experience at a much lower price.

Final thoughts

In conclusion, rising flagship prices result from innovation, premium components, marketing, software complexity, and global economics. Simultaneously, budget phones have improved due to decreasing component costs, competition, SoC technology, open-source software, and the diminishing returns of some flagship features.

Consumers now have a wide range of capable, affordable smartphones, making the decision between flagship and budget more nuanced. The shifting dynamics have created a landscape where budget phones offer exceptional value, while flagships cater to a niche willing to pay a premium for the latest technology.

Have you noticed that Samsung isn’t the best in mobile photography anymore? Galaxy S25 Ultra packs almost the same camera setup as its predecessor, which came with a very similar setup to the S23 Ultra.

Samsung is selling its 200MP ISOCELL HP9 to its competitor, but not using it in their own Ultra flagship. The result is also predictable—superior zoom shots with the vivo X200 Pro. The Find X8 Pro offers even better output with a 6x 50MP periscope telephoto. And the superiority isn’t actually limited to long-range zoom.

But why is that? Well, according to tipster Ice Universe, Samsung’s decision has to do with a lack of competition. While devices like the vivo X200 Pro or the Find X8 Pro surpass the latest Galaxy flagship in multiple aspects, they reportedly don’t have the market share to become a threat to Samsung. Instead, they serve as “muscle-showing products” and increase brand visibility.

16.82 million units of the Galaxy S24 Ultra have been sold, which is reportedly higher than the sales feature of all other “Ultra” models combined. The numbers are reportedly not convincing enough for Samsung to upgrade the camera system.

Design could also be a reason

All other “Ultra” phones come with a chunky camera island. That level of protrusion added to the individual camera islands of the S Ultra phones won’t look or feel good for sure. Samsung has already introduced a new lens tech dubbed “ALOP”, which can reduce the protrusion of the camera modules.

The Galaxy S25 Edge only has two lenses on the back and is expected to lack a telephoto. We will need to see when Samsung feels the need to compete with the brands from China.

While the Ultra phones from China indeed have very little market share, brands like Vivo are now more popular than ever in budget-conscious markets like India, where more and more mid-range buyers are preferring models from Chinese brands over Samsung.

While the newer processor does offer great performance, not everyone needs cutting edge performance. While the stylus retains its core writing and drawing capabilities, some advanced features that relied on Bluetooth have been removed. Here’s a breakdown of what’s missing and why Samsung decided to make this change.

Missing Bluetooth features on the S Pen

The removal of Bluetooth has led to the loss of some key functionalities:

• No Air Actions: Previously, the S Pen allowed users to perform gesture-based commands using Air Actions. By waving the stylus in different directions, users could control apps like PowerPoint, switch slides remotely, or navigate certain UI elements. With Bluetooth gone, Air Actions are no longer available, making it less convenient for tasks that require remote gestures.
• No remote clicker functionality: Another popular use case was using the S Pen button as a remote shutter for the Camera app. This feature allowed users to take photos without physically touching the phone—useful for group shots or stable tripod photography. Unfortunately, this function is now missing.

While these features were niche, they added a layer of convenience and innovation that set the S Pen apart from other styluses. Their removal marks a significant shift in how the S Pen integrates with the Galaxy ecosystem.

What remains the same?

Despite the removal of Bluetooth, the Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen is still an excellent tool for drawing, note-taking, and precision tasks. While Air Actions, a similar sound feature called the Air Commands still exists. For those who don’t know, this feature provides quick access to S Pen tools, apps, and shortcuts and can be activated by tapping the small bubble that appears when the S Pen is removed from its slot. Since it doesn’t rely on Bluetooth, users can still customise and access Air Command as usual.

The removal of Bluetooth functionality in the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen does not affect its lost detection feature, as this capability operates independently of Bluetooth. 

The lost detection feature relies on the electromagnetic field (EMF) communication between the S Pen and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. When the S Pen is inserted into its slot, it establishes a connection with the phone through this EMF link. If the S Pen is separated from the phone beyond a certain distance, the device detects the disconnection and can alert the user. This mechanism does not require Bluetooth, as it uses the built-in EMF sensors in the phone and the S Pen.

Why did Samsung remove Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen’s Bluetooth functions?

According to Samsung, the decision to remove Bluetooth from the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen was based on low user engagement. The company claims that only a small percentage of users actively used features like Air Actions and remote camera control. You can also tweak contrast, saturation, and color temperature to suit your style. For more serious video creators, the Log Video feature provides a wider dynamic range for editing. You can even download LUTs (Look-Up Tables) from Samsung to work on your footage in software like DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro.

The 10-bit HDR feature is now standard, which helps produce videos with richer colors and more depth. You can also grab snapshots from HDR videos, and the photos are processed for better color and detail accuracy.

Creative Photo and Depth Control

The Expert RAW app introduces a virtual aperture feature that lets you control how much of your photo is in focus. You can adjust it from F1.4 to F16, giving you DSLR-like control over depth of field. Digital ND filters are also included, making it possible to take long exposure shots even in bright daylight.

Motion Photo has been updated to capture 1.5 seconds of video before and after you take a picture, with an option to extend it to three seconds. You can stitch these clips together into a video, and the AI can optimize faces for better results when multiple people are in the frame.

Smarter Gallery and Editing Tools

The Gallery app has been redesigned to make finding photos easier. Thanks to better natural language processing and broader recognition categories, you can quickly search for pictures of objects, events, people, or pets.

Photo editing is more user-friendly, too. The Photo Remaster feature uses AI to sharpen blurry pictures, brighten dark areas, and clean up noise for clearer images. For videos, the new audio eraser tool can remove unwanted sounds like wind or background noise. The auto-trim tool picks out the key parts of your video, making editing quicker.

Advanced generative AI editing has been added as well, offering tools to remove shadows from objects and make them blend naturally with the background. The sketch conversion feature allows you to create multiple sketch variations from a single photo.

RAW Editing for Professionals

If you like working with RAW photos, the Galaxy S25’s RAW Image Editor has been expanded to include eight adjustment options for precise edits. The 16GB Galaxy S25 Ultra, which comes with 1 TB of storage, is confined to three markets: South Korea, China, and Taiwan. Why are these three markets exclusive? Well, Samsung is yet to release an official statement on it.

The price of the S25U’s 16GB+1TB variant in Taiwan is 56,900 TWD, which is approximately $1,740. It can be purchased in Titanium Black and Titanium Silver Blue shades. 

In China, the Galaxy S25 Ultra with a 1GB + 1TB configuration is priced at 13,699 CNY (~$1,890) and users have a wide range of color options to choose from. During the ongoing pre-order period, it is available for a lower price of 2,041,700 KRW (~$1,425). Apart from the regular Titanium Silver Blue, Titanium Mist Gray, Titanium Shadow Black, and Titanium Silver, it also comes in exclusive colors via Samsung.com, such as Titanium Black, Titanium Jade Green, and Titanium Soft.

In South Korea, the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 1TB version comes in 12 GB and 16 GB RAM versions. The latter is priced at 2,249,500 KRW (~$1,570). Only the Titanium Jet Black color is available for purchase.

Samsung recently hosted a launch event for its Galaxy S25 series smartphones headlined by the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The brand also announced that the Galaxy S25 Ultra is the first smartphone to feature Corning Gorilla Armor 2, the first scratch-resistant, anti-reflective glass ceramic cover material for mobile devices.

Gorilla Armor 2 is designed to withstand challenging conditions while maintaining a clear display. Kwangjin Bae, EVP and Head of the Mechanical R&D Team at Samsung Electronics said, “The Galaxy S25 Ultra represents progress in providing users with a more durable mobile experience. Our partnership with Corning continues to improve display performance to meet consumer needs.”

Compared to the previous generation, Gorilla Armor 2 provides greater durability and resistance to scratches. In testing, it withstood drops from up to 2.2 meters onto surfaces replicating concrete while competing materials failed from one meter. It also showed over four times better scratch resistance than other lithium-aluminosilicate cover glasses with anti-reflective coatings.

The material’s anti-reflective properties reduce surface reflections in various lighting environments, improving display contrast and usability indoors and outdoors. David Velasquez, Vice President and General Manager of Corning Gorilla Glass, commented, “With Gorilla Armor 2, we offer a durable, optically advanced glass ceramic cover material on a Galaxy device for the first time.”

Talking about the Galaxy S25 Ultra specifications, the device features a 6.9-inch Quad HD+ Infinity-O-Edge Dynamic AMOLED display with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, it offers 12GB RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB, running Android 15 with One UI 7.

The rear camera setup includes a 200MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and 100x Space Zoom. It supports 4K and 8K video recording. On the front, it has a 12MP camera that delivers sharp selfies. The phone has an IP68 rating, while connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, and NFC. It houses a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging and wireless charging support.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S25 series of smartphones in January 2025. In a new development, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has emerged in the database of the NBTC certification platform of Thailand. At the same time, a reliable leaker has revealed the configurations of the S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra.

As can be seen above, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has emerged with model number SM-S938B/DS in NBTC’s database (via. stufflistings). To recall, the Galaxy S24 Ultra appeared in NBTC’s database in November 2023 before debuting in January 2025. Therefore, it is very likely that S25 Ultra may break cover in January 2025.

In related news, leaker Arsène Lupin has revealed that the Galaxy S25 will be available in 128 GB and 256 GB storage choices, and the S25+ will arrive in 256 GB and 512 GB variants. The S25 Ultra is tipped to come in three storage choices, such as 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. The leak does not specify the RAM details for these phones. However, it appears that the entire lineup may offer 12 GB of RAM.

Another source, Jukanlosreve, has claimed that the 256 GB variant of the S25 Ultra will have 12 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the 512 GB and 1 TB variants will have 16 GB of RAM. The S25 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. There have been reports that the S25 and S25+ will also have the Snapdragon 8 Elite, but there’s a possibility that both phones may arrive with the Exynos 2500 chip in some markets or all regions.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra 3C certified

The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 3C certification reveals that it will continue to support 45W charging like its predecessors. Like the S24 Ultra, the retail package of the S25 Ultra will not include a charger. What’s intriguing about this certification is that it also reveals support for satellite connectivity. Therefore, the S25 Ultra will be Samsung’s first phone to offer satellite communication support.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra design

The Galaxy S25 Ultra CAD renders released by OnLeaks in collaboration with AndroidHeadlines suggest that Samsung fans should not expect an overhaul in design compared to the S24 Ultra. However, readers should note that another reliable leaker, Ice Universe, claimed these renders are not 100 percent accurate because of some errors in the camera ring’s design, texture, bezels, and metal frame.

The new leak also states that the device will measure 162.8 x 77.6 x 8.2mm. In comparison, the S24 Ultra has 162.3 x 79 x 8.6mm. Therefore, the S25 Ultra is slightly taller, narrower, and thinner than its predecessor, the S24 Ultra. While the S24 Ultra weighs 232 grams, its successor is a lighter device, weighing 219 grams. In terms of screen size, it will have the same sized (6.8-inch) display as its predecessor. Shown below is a slightly modified version of the S25 Ultra’s CAD render by Ice Universe.

According to reports, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy chip and a 5,000mAh battery. Samsung introduced the 200MP camera on its Galaxy lineup with the S23 Ultra. While the company has yet to democratize this sensor across its lineup, reports suggest that Samsung is planning to go even further in 2024 with three new sensors, including a new 440MP camera.

Samsung is working on a 440MP camera sensor

According to tipster Revegnus, Samsung is mass-producing a new 50MP GN6 sensor with a 1.6μm pixel size, and a 200MP HP7 sensor with a 0.6μm pixel size. But the most interesting of the bunch is the 440MP HU1 sensor, but its pixel size isn’t confirmed yet.

All three sensors are expected to go into mass production in the second half of 2024. But Revegnus says it’s unlikely that these sensors will be used in Samsung products. 

The new 50MP ISOCELL GN6 could be a successor to the ISOCELL GN1 and ISOCELL GN2 camera sensors, with a large 1.6μm pixel size. This would be an upgrade over the ISOCELL GN2’s 1.4μm pixel size, and if true, the ISOCELL GN6 could be Samsung’s largest and first 1-inch type camera sensor to rival Sony’s IMX989 sensor. It would be a perfect fit for flagship smartphones. However, the tipster says it is unlikely that the GN6 sensor will be used in Samsung phones. Instead, it is more likely to be used by Chinese manufacturers.

The 200MP HP7 sensor was initially planned for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it was canceled due to its high cost. However, Revegnus says there is another 320MP sensor in development. It’s possible that this sensor could be used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset already supports 320MP cameras, and the upcoming Snapdragon chip might also support 320MP cameras. So, it’s possible that 320MP sensors could be the next big thing in smartphones after 200MP cameras.
