On the rear, Samsung appears to have moved away from individually protruding lenses. Instead, the cameras sit on a unified island positioned in the top-left corner. While the camera housing still protrudes, it looks more refined and structured. Some of the trends expected to be seen on phones this year include improved AI experiences, larger silicon-carbon batteries—with some brands already launching 10,000mAh and 9,000mAh battery phones—higher refresh rate displays, with some even expected to exceed the 200Hz mark, and more. One trend that is expected to be widely adopted by different smartphone brands is the 200-megapixel camera, with some even rumoured to offer dual 200-megapixel cameras.

Knowing the current 200MP sensors

There are a couple of existing and upcoming 200MP sensors, which include:

Samsung ISOCELL HP5

Launched in October 2025, the Samsung ISOCELL HP5 200-megapixel sensor has been made available on mid-range, mid-premium, and flagship phones since the latter half of 2025. On mid-tier phones like the Vivo V60e or performance-focused flagships like the iQOO Z11 Turbo, this 200-megapixel sensor is coupled with an ultra-wide camera. On mid-premium phones and flagships, it is paired with more powerful ultra-wide and telephoto cameras.

Samsung HPB (Custom Samsung ISOCELL HP9 variant)

The Samsung HPB is Vivo’s customized version of the existing Samsung ISOCELL HP9 sensor, which was launched in 2024. The Vivo X300 and X300 Pro are the only phones to feature this sensor so far. In the future as well, it is expected to remain exclusive to Vivo smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra 3C certified

The Galaxy S26 Ultra’s Chinese variant bearing the model number SM-S948B has been approved by China’s 3C certification platform. The listing reveals that the device will support 20A/3V (60W) charging, but it will be sold without a power brick.

This will be the first major charging speed upgrade arriving on Samsung phones, as 45W charging was introduced way back in 2019 on the Galaxy Note 10+. Apart from this 60W wired charging, the S26 Ultra is also expected to support wireless and reverse wireless charging.

The 3C listing also reveals that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will have support for satellite connectivity. This is not surprising since the S25 Ultra also came with support for it in China.

Likely, the S26 Ultra will be the only phone in the series to support 60W fast charging. The S26 Plus is expected to offer 45W charging. It remains to be seen whether the standard S26 will support 25W or 45W charging.

Samsung has officially entered the 2nm era, but not without turbulence. The company’s Foundry Division has kicked off mass production of its next-gen Exynos 2600 chipset using its cutting-edge 2nm GAA process. While this should mark a triumphant return for Samsung’s in-house silicon after the Exynos 2500’s absence from the Galaxy S25, the reality is more complicated.

Galaxy S26 Ultra could drop Exynos 2600

According to a report by Korean outlet Dealsite, initial output stands at just 15,000 wafers, with yield rates hovering around 50%, far below the industry’s target of 70% for profitability. That number, while an improvement over Samsung’s broader 2nm yields in the 30% range, still limits how widely the Exynos 2600 can be deployed.

Sources now suggest that only about 30% of Galaxy S26 units will ship with the Exynos 2600, primarily in Samsung’s home market. The flagship S26 Ultra is expected to skip the chip entirely, instead relying on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, contradicting earlier reports that projected a full Exynos rollout across all S26 variants.

The reduced allocation follows promising early tests that initially supported a broader deployment. However, limited wafer supply and unstable 2nm yields have forced Samsung to scale back. The Foundry Division now faces a pivotal moment as it works to recover from mounting losses and rebuild trust with major partners.

Samsung is also preparing to produce Tesla’s AI6 chip using the same 2nm process, with pilot runs scheduled for next year and full-scale production expected by 2027. The deal, valued at around 22 trillion won (roughly $15.2 billion), includes plans for roughly 10,000 wafers per month. However, initial output will remain limited, and profitability will depend heavily on improving yield rates.

Despite the growing pains, Samsung’s Exynos 2600 and Tesla AI6 projects are shaping up as high-stakes proving grounds. If the company can stabilize its 2nm output, it could turn these two chips into marketing weapons, and perhaps even lure Qualcomm back into the fold.

Galaxy S26 Ultra reportedly ready, but S26 is not

According to the report, the Galaxy S26 Ultra has already completed its development phase and is ready for production. However, the base Galaxy S26 is still behind schedule, which may be contributing to the expected delay. While this could push the official unveiling, the Ultra model is said to be shaping up as a notable upgrade, particularly in display and performance.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra will reportedly feature a 10-bit display that supports one billion colors, marking a clear improvement over the 8-bit screen used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Powering the device will be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset paired with 12GB RAM. The 5,000mAh battery remains unchanged, but charging speed is set to increase to 60W, allowing an 80% charge in about 30 minutes.

The standard Galaxy S26 is expected to use the Exynos 2600 chipset, a move seen as an effort to strengthen Samsung Semiconductor after recent setbacks in its client base. Although the phone’s design is not yet complete, it is expected to adopt a minimal and refined look once finalised.

With rumours suggesting the cancellation of the Galaxy S26 Edge model, Samsung’s 2025 lineup could instead include the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra variants.

Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy S26 series of flagship phones, which may debut in January 2026. So far, reports have revealed that the lineup may include three models, such as the Galaxy S26 Edge, Galaxy S26 Pro, and Galaxy S26 Ultra. A recent leak revealed the design of the S26 Edge, and now a new leak has revealed the camera specifications of the Ultra edition.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra camera specifications (rumored)

To recall, the Galaxy S25 Ultra featured a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP2 primary camera, a 50-megapixel Samsung JN3 ultra-wide lens, a 10-megapixel Sony IMX754 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX854 periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

As seen above, tipster Roland Quandt has suggested that the Galaxy S26 Ultra may feature a 200-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a new 12-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.

The leak reveals that the S26 Ultra’s telephoto camera will feature the 12-megapixel Samsung S5K3LD sensor with support for 3x optical zoom. While he specified the sensor for the telephoto camera, he did not reveal any information about the other camera sensors.

Recent reports have revealed that the S26 Ultra may adopt a new HP2+ primary camera with a nearly 1-inch sensor size and an f/1.4 aperture, offering 47 percent more light intake than its predecessor. According to a Weibo post by tipster Ice Universe, the new telephoto will have an f/2.4 aperture and 20 percent more pixels compared to the S25 Ultra’s 10-megapixel telephoto. He added that the S26 Ultra’s telephoto with an f/2.9 aperture will support 38 percent more light intake.

Galaxy S26 Ultra’s other specifications

Recent reports have suggested that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and a 5,500mAh battery with 60W charging support. It is also expected to come with MagSafe-like magnetic wireless charging support. Compared to the S25 Ultra, the successor edition is said to be a larger and thinner device with rounded corners.

Galaxy S26 Edge, S26 Pro camera details tipped

As can be seen, the tipster also revealed that the Galaxy S26 Edge would feature a 200-megapixel main camera and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide snapper. This means that it will have a dual-camera setup like the S25 Edge, but with a new ultra-wide lens.

The S26 Pro will feature a new 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. However, he did not mention anything about its primary and telephoto cameras.

Is the Galaxy S26 Ultra getting a design refresh?

The South Korean tech giant’s 2026 flagship phone was spotted in a recent concept art, which revealed some minor changes to the rear design. While the overall layout is basically the same, the three vertically stacked cameras, which include the main, ultra wide, and periscope telephoto, are housed in a slightly raised oval shaped module. This surprisingly looks similar to the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy S25 Edge.

Know tipster Ice Universe shared a tweet with this concept render, stating that it’s unclear if this is the actual design for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, but adds that there is a “pretty high chance” of the next gen flagship having a similar look overall. Samsung might be using this raised camera module to house the larger main camera and new telephoto shooter, while also slimming down the S26 Ultra. So the bigger bump should offer more space for the camera components.

Based on what we know so far, Samsung could equip the next Ultra flagship with a new HP2+ main camera with a larger sensor size and wider aperture. Its battery pack could remain at 5,000mAh, but the fast charging rate is expected to get a bump to 65W. Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: Better S Pen & Display

The South Korean tech giant’s next big flagship could be getting some minor changes to its display. Samsung may make the display ever so slightly taller by reducing the bezels surrounding the screen. From 6.86-inch to 6.9-inch thanks to slimmer bezels. That’s not all, rumors claim that the panel itself is getting slimmer as the brand could shift to using a CoE OLED screen (Color Filter of Encapsulation), which could also make the display more power efficient.

Taking advantage of the better display, Samsung’s S Pen stylus may finally fix a long standing issue related to magnets. Users that often rely on the S Pen complained about magnetic interference from accessories. Despite the Galaxy S25 Ultra supporting Qi2 wireless charging standards, third party accessories still cause warning to appear when the magnets are near the stylus. But the Galaxy S26 Ultra could address this problem, allowing Samsung to offer built-in magnets like current gen iPhones, rather than relying on magnetic cases.

Photography Leap

Over the last couple of flagship generations, Samsung barely made any changes to the Ultra series camera system. While the Galaxy S25 Ultra made one notable upgrade to its ultra wide angle lens, the Galaxy S26 Ultra might be making a bigger leap. The biggest potential upgrade is with the primary camera.

The next top model might move away from its proprietary ISOCELL sensor, in favor of the 200MP Sony CMOS sensor (first ever 200MP camera from Sony). This is also a large camera, which could be nearly 1-inch large. To recall, the S25 Ultra’s main shooter is the 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 sensor, while the S26 Ultra may bring a 1/1.1-inch sensor.

So Samsung might finally compete with the top Chinese flagships like the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Ultra, and others. Apart from this, the 3x telephoto camera may get a new sensor with higher resolution as well.

Faster Charging Finally?

Despite Chinese smartphone brands pushing the battery capacities on their devices thanks to improvements in battery tech, Samsung and Apple appear rather lethargic in making any big changes. The S25 Ultra supporting 45W wired fast charging was decent, but definitely no more close to most other premium Android offerings. However, this could be changing next year. One of the recent reports states that the S26 Ultra could finally deliver true fast charging with 65W.

Samsung Electronics is reportedly close to finalizing a wide-ranging deal to preload Perplexity AI’s technology on its devices, Bloomberg reports. According to people familiar with the discussions, this deal would see Perplexity’s search features integrated into Samsung’s products, thereby enhancing the South Korean company’s AI capabilities.

Preloading and deeper integration in Galaxy S26 and beyond

The agreement under discussion involves preloading the Perplexity app and assistant on future Samsung devices, with Samsung aiming to make it a default assistant option in the upcoming Galaxy S26 lineup, expected to launch in the first half of 2026. Talks have also touched on integrating Perplexity’s search features directly into Samsung’s web browser, offering a more comprehensive and AI-powered search experience. Additionally, there are plans to incorporate Perplexity’s technology into Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant. The specific terms and final details, however, have yet to be finalised and may change.

In a further move to deepen their collaboration, Samsung is expected to be among the largest investors in a new funding round for Perplexity, which is reportedly seeking to raise $500 million at a valuation of $14 billion. This partnership could enable Samsung to diversify its reliance away from Alphabet’s Google and embrace a broader mix of AI technologies, similar to the approach Apple has taken.

For Perplexity, this would be its biggest mobile partnership to date, coming after a recent deal with Motorola. According to a tipster, a Galaxy S26 Ultra display prototype is equipped with an under-display camera. With no selfie camera punch-hole on the screen, the S26 Ultra is expected to offer an amazing full-screen experience. The quality of selfies captured using the Galaxy Z Fold’s under-display camera leaves much to be desired. However, given that the Galaxy Ultra series is Samsung’s flagship offering, the S26 Ultra is likely to deliver a stellar selfie photography experience.

Readers should note the Galaxy S26 Ultra is said to be in the early prototype stage now. Therefore, it is likely that the under-display may not appear in the final product. Therefore, it is advisable to wait for further reports to get a better idea.

Samsung is currently working on a 2nm process node for its foundry business. The company reportedly aims to be the first to launch 2nm chips surpassing TSMC. It has also reportedly received the first 2nm chip manufacturing order from a Japanese company named Preferred Networks (PFN).

Samsung’s 2nm project “Tethys” could be related to the Exynos 2600

Now the news is that the South Korean company has released a 2nm AP (application processor) development project called ‘Tethys’ and the outcome will be released under the brand Exynos. Samsung seems to be serious about competing with Qualcomm and MediaTek. For now, Samsung is reportedly keeping their foldable lineup Qualcomm exclusive to meet power efficiency requirements.

The 2nm fabrication project “Tethys” is expected to become ready for mass production in 2025 and it could be related to the Exynos 2600 expected to be used inside the Galaxy S26 series. The company has also previously announced that it will mass-produce 2nm chips in 2025.

The Galaxy S23 series from last year was powered exclusively with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. This year Samsung has returned to its dual platform strategy with the Exynos 2400 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip powering the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus in different regions. However, Samsung kept the Galaxy S24 Ultra model Exynos Exclusive, probably due to the same reason why it has decided to power its 6th generation foldable exclusively with the latest Snapdragon flagship.

Rumors hint that the next-generation Exynos 2500 chip has achieved efficiency improvements and Samsung will use it to power the S26 series. However, the regions that will get the Exynos-powered flagships aren’t clear yet. Nonetheless, it’s understandable that Samsung will want to use Exynos chips as much as possible especially if it manages to reduce or omit the overall performance gap.

Notably, TSMC is also working on 2nm chips, and its mass production is also expected to begin in 2025.

Samsung introduced the 200MP camera on its Galaxy lineup with the S23 Ultra. While the company has yet to democratize this sensor across its lineup, reports suggest that Samsung is planning to go even further in 2024 with three new sensors, including a new 440MP camera.

Samsung is working on a 440MP camera sensor

According to tipster Revegnus, Samsung is mass-producing a new 50MP GN6 sensor with a 1.6μm pixel size, and a 200MP HP7 sensor with a 0.6μm pixel size. But the most interesting of the bunch is the 440MP HU1 sensor, but its pixel size isn’t confirmed yet.

All three sensors are expected to go into mass production in the second half of 2024. But Revegnus says it’s unlikely that these sensors will be used in Samsung products. 

The new 50MP ISOCELL GN6 could be a successor to the ISOCELL GN1 and ISOCELL GN2 camera sensors, with a large 1.6μm pixel size. This would be an upgrade over the ISOCELL GN2’s 1.4μm pixel size, and if true, the ISOCELL GN6 could be Samsung’s largest and first 1-inch type camera sensor to rival Sony’s IMX989 sensor. It would be a perfect fit for flagship smartphones. However, the tipster says it is unlikely that the GN6 sensor will be used in Samsung phones. Instead, it is more likely to be used by Chinese manufacturers.

The 200MP HP7 sensor was initially planned for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but it was canceled due to its high cost. However, Revegnus says there is another 320MP sensor in development. It’s possible that this sensor could be used in the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chipset already supports 320MP cameras, and the upcoming Snapdragon chip might also support 320MP cameras. So, it’s possible that 320MP sensors could be the next big thing in smartphones after 200MP cameras.
