Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are set to hit China which is considered the world’s largest smartphone market.The South Korean tech company has disclosed that it would hold a launch event on March 6 in Guangzhou where the duo will be unveiled for the China market.

Samsung is taking its latest flagship to China with the hope that its faltering sales in the local market will experience a rebound. Samsung shipments in the domestic market have been anything but encouraging and this is due to the proliferation of several Chinese brands who usually offer their smartphones at rock-bottom prices.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ have what it takes to elicit interest and attract buyers but the thing is the models usually come with a steep price tag and the S9 models are no different. The Galaxy S9 is said to come with a 6100 Yuan (~$960) price tag while the Galaxy S9+ has a price tag of 7000 Yuan (~$1100). That is not very certain but presale is already ongoing at Samsung’s official website in China.

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S9 and S9+ at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona next month. The models are also expected to be launched in the world’s largest smartphone market, China soon after the MWC unveiling. Ahead of its arrival in China, Samsung has started putting things in place to get the next-gen Galaxy flagships approved in China. Secevral models of a Samsung smartphone believed to be the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ reportedly received China’s Compulsory Certificate (3C) last week.

The Samsung Galaxy models that got 3C nod include models bearing the model numbers SM-G9650/DS, SM-G9600/DS, and the SM-G9608/DS. The SM-G9600/DS model is said to be the Chinese variant of the Galaxy S9 while SM-G9608/DS is the Galaxy S9+. In addition, the SM-G9608/DS is said to be the smaller 5.8-inch Galaxy S9+ model that is meant for the Taiwan market.The suffix “DS” attached to the model number shows that all three models are expected to have dual SIM car slots. The SIM slots of all three models are expected to follow suit with the Hybrid SIM etup of the Galaxy S8 series where the second SIM slot can be interchanged with a microSD card.

As usual, 3C listing doesn’t reveal much details regarding the specifications of the smartphone but is a sure indication that the launch is somewhat imminent. Previous leaks point to the use of the flagship Snapdragon 845 chip on the Galaxy S9 while some models will have an Exynos 9810 processor. The 3C listing also shows all the three models will come with fast charging support at 9V /1.67A and 5V / 2A. Apart from these few details, nothing else is revealed but we hope to see more details in the coming days, especially when the models hit TENAA.

Samsung is expected to repeat its product launch pattern for 2017 this year. The tech giant is expected to build on last year’s successes with the launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in the first half of the year. The duo could well be unveiled early at MWC 2018 and is expected to pack the recently announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. 

Now, a Chinese retailer has set out early to catch in on the potential success of the Galaxy S9+ by launching a look-alike smartphone. The device which also bears the Samsung Galaxy S9+ moniker can at best be described as a cheap Galaxy S9+ clone. It bears the same design as that of the Galaxy S9+ render that have featured in an earlier leak. It features a dual camera at the rear aligned in a vertical direction. The device also packs a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor placed under the rear cameras. Unfortunately, the front design is a sell out as it looks nothing like the render of the Galaxy S9+ we have earlier seen. The screen to bod ratio is nowhere near the likely ratio Samsung will utilise which is placed at up to 90% with ultra-thin bezels.

Do note that this is definitely a clone and not the real phone and that fact is reflected in the price with which the device is listed. The device is listed with a 688 Yuan ( around $100) price tag and that is nowhere near the likely price of the Galaxy S9+. The real Samsung flagship is expected to come with a 6.2-inch full-colour curved screen and will be equipped with an SD 845 chip. The processor is backed by a 6GB RAM while a 3500mAh will provide the juice. The Galaxy S9 series is also expected to pack Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo operating system.
