The Samsung Galaxy S9 was launched back in 2018 with Android 8.0 Oreo OS. The device received the Android 9 Pie-based OneUI update in 2019 and it was followed by the Android 10-based OneUI 2 update in 2020. However, the device didn’t receive the Android 11 update and the company officially removed it from the software support list. But Samsung seems to offer support for security updates even after more than four years as the smartphone has now received a recent security patch.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have received a new security update and it brings the March 2022 Security patch. Well, not the latest, but a recent one and it is also great to see a four-year-old phone still getting the security updates.

The firmware version of the update is G96xUSQU9FVB2 and it is currently rolling out for the carrier-locked S9 and S9+ models in the US. If you own a Galaxy S9 or S9+, head to Settings > Software Update and download and install the update.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 series was released with Snapdragon 845/Exynos 9810 SoCs (depending on the region). Both phones offered compact screens and up to dual-camera setup. The Galaxy S9 came with a 5.8-inch curved screen, while the S9 Pro featured a 6.2-inch panel. The vanilla version has a single 12MP rear camera, whereas, the Plus model has a 12MP main + 12MP telephoto dual-camera system.

The legendary Galaxy S9 series has finally hit the end of the road with regards to software updates and Samsung has removed it from the support list, meaning the series will not be getting updated any further.

Both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ currently run Android 10 based on One UI 2.5, which while is quite dated version-wise, is fairly up to date in terms of security, since Samsung has been rolling out security updates for both of the devices for around three years now.

The company recently increased software support to some of its newer devices to an industry-leading 5 years, but sadly, the Galaxy S9 series will not be benefitting from it.

Thankfully, the duo has a fairly active custom ROM development scene, so if the dated software is a point of bother and you’re unwilling to switch over to a newer device, then installing an Android 12-based ROM should freshen up the devices.

As with nearly every Galaxy S series flagship phone, the S9 series comes in two regional variants — one with the Snapdragon 845 and the other with the Exynos 9810. The former is limited to the US, Latin America, and China while the rest of the world gets the latter.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 packs a 5.8-inch curved screen while the S9+ uses a larger 6.2-inch panel with a higher resolution. In terms of cameras, the S9 comes with a single 12MP rear camera while the S9+ comes with a dual-camera setup comprising 12MP primary and 12MP telephoto units.

Samsung has improved quite a lot when it comes to providing updates to its smartphones. The company tries to optimize the process and as a part of that, some older models move down to the list of less frequent updates.

Now, it appears that the Samsung Galaxy S9 is moving down to quarterly updates from its current schedule of monthly updates. So, from now onwards, the Galaxy S9 will only get 4 security patches per year, likely moving to the biannual schedule next year.

This change is applicable to both the models — Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. The updates provided are based on the Android 10 operating system, which was rolled out to these smartphones in February last year.

The development comes just days after Samsung rolled out April 2021 security patch to the Galaxy S9 Plus smartphone. Interestingly, the update for this model comes before some more recent devices from the company.

Based on the updated schedule, it seems that the next update for the S9 series smartphones will be available in July or August. Its predecessor, the Galaxy S8 series is also on a quarterly update basis and is likely to move to biannual updates by next year.

Samsung still remains the market leader in the smartphone market and until recently Apple was in second place. The U.S company dropped to the third place, overtaken by Huawei according to data from the second quarter of the year. Notwithstanding, Apple has been the target of several Samsung adverts over the years and the reason isn’t far-fetched. Despite not shipping the same number of smartphones with Huawei or Samsung, Apple has remained the most profitable smartphone maker globally. This is mostly due to the pricing of its smartphones and Apple’s extremely loyal fan base worldwide. Samsung has once again taken on Apple in one of the most bizarre ways we have seen. The South Korean tech giant took its latest anti-Apple marketing drive to a tiny village in the Netherlands named “Appel” which is Dutch for apple.

The visit isn’t anything but a publicity stunt and it saw Sammy ditching out free Galaxy S9 units to 50 lucky residents of the town whose entire population is put at 312. The campaign was carried out in collaboration with an 18-year old Apple fan from the village. Of course, there is a short video clip showing the 50 lucky residents of Appel as they received their brand new Galaxy S9 model.

The smartphone market today isn’t like what it used to be in years before now. Lots of brands are trooping in with amazing devices giving the older brands a good run for their money. Samsung just released its financial report detailing the firm’s earnings for the second quarter of 2018. The report shows the company made a gross earning of KRW58.48 trillion (around $52.2 billion) in sales. On the other hand, the company’s operating profit is reported to be KRW 14.87 trillion. This is slightly lower than the profits recorded in the first quarter of 2018 but almost on par with Samsung’s earnings in Q2 2017.

Samsung attributed the slight drop in its profits in Q2 to the low demand and sales of “smartphones and display panels”. Samsung’s major smartphone released in the first quarter was the Galaxy S9 models. According to Samsung, the device is not performing well in the market as its sales margin is low.

The low sale of the Galaxy S9 is as a result of competition from lower-priced handsets. Xiaomi and Huawei, has been doing well in this aspect, forming very formidable rivals to Samsung in China, India, etc. The IT & Mobile Communications division which handles  Galaxy smartphones experienced a 20% fall in sales from KRW30 trillion to KRW24 trillion on a yearly basis. However, with the expected launch of the Galaxy Note 9 as well as its Galaxy Tab model which should be on sale before the end of Q3, Samsung believes that demand for its tablet and smartphones would increase in the second half of the year.

On the other hand, Samsung experienced an amazing strong profit in its Semiconductor Business (NAND and DRAM memory chips) reaching the highest sales and revenue ever with over 37% of the overall sales and nearly 80% of the total profit for the quarter. With the growing demand for flexible OLED panels, the sale of the chipset is expected to be maintained in the remaining months of the year.

Samsung may still be the number one smartphone maker globally but the company is gradually feeling the heat being generated by the growing profile of its competitors. Several analysts who are familiar with the company’s operations have hinted that the Galaxy S9 is not selling so well globally compared to the performance of the Samsung Galaxy S8. This is particularly a cause for concern considering that last year’s Galaxy S8 was said to have performed poorly in comparison with the Galaxy S7.

It is not actually easy to know the exact number of units that have been sold so far. Basically, data of smartphone sales are heavily reliant on research by firms like IDC which usually release quarterly/yearly reports based on individual brand and other indices. The figures they come out with are at best estimates as we can’t know exactly how many units of a particular model were sold. In this case, unless Samsung will share its sales figure which is not likely to happen.

The point being made is that Samsung phones are not selling well like before. We could recall the tech giant sold up to 80 million Galaxy S4 units. That was then, anyway. With mounting pressure from Chinese manufacturers who offer phones with the same build quality and specs at lower prices, things won’t remain the same for Sammy for long. Chinese manufacturers like Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo have even brought innovative features like triple camera setup, full-screen design, pop-up cameras to the scene on their flagship offerings. Samsung shares are said to have dropped by 9% and already, the company has been edged out of the top spot in India. The same thing would likely have happened in the U.S if not for the difficulty Chinese companies face when attempts are made to enter the lucrative U.S market. So, if Samsung plans to keep its leadership position, it has got to sit up and bring in more innovations to the table. We have seen enough of phones like the Galaxy S8, S9 and perhaps the Note 8 and Note 9 coming with similar designs. The mid-range segment is worst off as it is usually difficult to tell the difference between some of the Galaxy series based on their designs.

Apple does not reinvent the design of its iPhones very often, but when it does, it is always a revolution. Now, it seems that even Samsung is going to follow this strategy. After releasing a Galaxy S9 which is just a slight upgrade of the innovative S8 in terms of aesthetics, the company has been tipped to release Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with the same design of its predecessor Note 8. Or at least this is what a new leak has revealed. The new leaked image is a live photo of the alleged front panel of the upcoming flagship phablet.

It has been posted by the known tipster Ice Universe on Twitter and, according to the photo, the form factor of the handset will be the same notch-less one. The display is curved on the sides and the position of the sensors is similar to the Note 8: the only noticeable difference is that Samsung Galaxy Note 9 has thinner bezels on the upper and lower part of the front panel. So, we expect to see a slightly bigger display in a body with the same dimensions as Note 8. Indeed, according to rumors, the phablet will feature a 6.4-inch display with the Super AMOLED technology and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio (0.1 inches bigger than Note 8).

A few days ago we told you about some photos surfaced on the web which showed, for the first time, a Samsung Galaxy Note 9 protective case. The pictures revealed the presence of an additional physical key on the lower part of the right side, under the volume and power keys. According to earlier rumors, this button was said to be a shutter key which will be possible to use to shoot photos and take screenshots with the upcoming flagship phablet.

Now, a reliable leakster has revealed that there will be no additional key besides the volume buttons, the power key and the Bixby key. According to the tipster identified on Twitter by the nickname Ice Universe, the cut-out you could see on the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 case is just two holes to be used with a lanyard.

So, we can stop expecting an additional Xperia-like key making the camera experience more comfortable. According to the latest rumors, Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will come with a big 4000 mAh battery. Earlier this year, Samsung launched its flagship smartphones — Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Now, the company has introduced two new variants of the phone, which comes in Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red color.

These new color variants come in addition to the Midnight Black, Titanium Gray, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple color options which are already available in the market. Thus, the number of color options offered by the South Korean giant currently stands at six.

While the Burgundy Red edition will be available in Korea and China starting this month, the Sunrise Gold model will start shipping in June in select markets like Australia, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam. However, Samsung has said that the that these new models will be “coming soon” to additional markets.

The company says that the Sunrise Gold edition for Galaxy S9 and S9+ is Samsung’s first device to feature a satin gloss finish which wraps the smartphone in a tranquil glow and glimmer. Further, detailing the Burgundy Red edition, the company said that it is one of the deepest red colors available featuring restrained gloss for added density and a look that is contemporary and traditional.

The Galaxy S9 and S9+ feature 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display, respectively, which supports QHD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. Both phones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9810 octa-core processor with Mali G72MP18 GPU and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC, depending on the region.

The Galaxy S9 packs 4GB RAM while the S9+ packs 6GB RAM. One of the highlights of the Galaxy S9-series is that it comes with improved camera experience to take on the likes of Apple’s iPhone X and Google Pixel 2. The Galaxy S9 features a 12-megapixel dual pixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture, and 960fps super slo-mo support.

The OnePlus 6 will be upon us in four days time and the hype keeps building. The OnePlus 6 is going to launch with some pretty impressive specs but some of them are already present in other devices. OnePlus took to Twitter yesterday and posted a bunch of photos. The photos are of the same location but were taken by the OnePlus 6, iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9, and the Google Pixel 2. When Samsung first unveiled the Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagships, they were only available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, Titanium Gray, and Lilac Purple. However, only the black, purple, and blue colours were made available in China. But a couple of days back, the Korean giant unveiled a Burgundy Red variant of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ for the Chinese market. We now have better and clearer photos of the Galaxy S9 Red variants and indeed, they look radiant in the new paint job.

This isn’t the first time Sammy is adding a sleek red variant to its lineup. Last year’s Galaxy S8 had a Burgundy Red variant which was released just about 6 months back. But this one is coming in quite early, perhaps due to the not so impressive sales record of the pricy flagship models especially in China that ranks as the world’s largest smartphone market. The Burgundy Red variants of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ add more glamour to the already glamorous flagships. The entire body is coated in red, except for the display.

Samsung‘s latest Galaxy S9 series is already on sale all over the world and the performance hasn’t been so good. One would have expected that the story would be different in Samsung’s home country, South Korea but that isn’t the case.

A report by the Investor shows that the tech giant sold an estimated 476,000 Galaxy S9 series units in March, but the number came crashing down to 231,000 in April. Samsung is said to have sold 707,000 units of the Galaxy S9 in the first two months, which is lower than almost 1 million unit sales of its predecessor Galaxy S8 last year. Apple’s iPhone X didn’t perform any better as its sales reportedly slumped as well. The iPhone X sales in Korea for the first four months after it was launched in November is estimated to be around 475,000 units, with just about 70,000 units sold in February. This is considered low since there wasn’t any competing flagship like the Galaxy S9 as at February.

The reason for the sluggish sales of the two most popular flagships around is pinned by Industry watchers on their high pricing and little upgrades in key features. In Korea, the iPhone X and the Galaxy S9 are priced at 1.55 million won (US$1,452) and 1.15 million won ($1069) respectively and you’ll agree these are on the high side. For half their prices, you could grab the Mi Mix 2s or even the OnePlus 6 which is expected to launch soon. The Mi Mix 2s comes with the same build quality and hardware as the duo and the OnePlus 6 will offer a similar quality for way less.

Samsung is at loggerheads with yet another company for patent infringement. The company known as PACid technologies deals with technology pertaining to encryption and has accused Samsung of using three of its biometric patents without licensing them. Two of the said patents were filed in the states, while the third was filed in South Korea and all three patents have something to do with encryption technology.

The company has now filed a suit before the Texas Eastern District Court. The suit was filed on April 6 and alleges that Samsung used the three patents to help it develop its fingerprint, face and iris scanners. The specific phones named in the suit include the Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, Samsung Galaxy S7, Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8+. PACid Technologies also claims that the aforementioned three patents were infringed by the Samsung PASS identity management service and the Samsung KNOX mobile enterprise security system. However, the suit did not mention a specific damages amount sought by the plaintiff but with the calibre of phones mentioned, the company may be seeking a huge sum in damages.

It is interesting to note that PACid Technologies is regarded as a patent troll with no manufacturing portfolio to her name and the company addressed that on the official company web pages. There is no doubt that Samsung pays billions of dollars yearly as licensing fees for various technologies used on its devices. We can’t really say who is right or wrong here. But one thing is certain, Samsung has the financial power to get the best lawyers to defend it in court while PACid seems to have got some experience in patent trolling. So, we may as well be looking at another case that would eventually be settled out of court.

Samsung Displays is one of the lucrative arms of the conglomerate. The company is good at manufacturing some of the world’s best AMOLED panels. The Always On mode has been improved once again. This mode is very useful on Samsung devices as it allows to check time, notifications, and other important info even when the display is turned off and the phone is on standby. And, obviously, it limits the energy consumption and the impact on the battery life. Samsung has just updated the Always On Display app by adding the support to GIFs.

Now, you can set animated GIFs to show up when you lock your phone and the display turns off. With this update, the Samsung AOD app jumps to the version 3.2.26.4. Once you have updated your app, you can set animated GIFs in the Always On mode by heading to the Gallery app. You just need to select the GIF that you want, tap on the overflow menu (…), then choose Set as Always On Display image.

The app will also give you the chance to trim the GIF in case it is too long. In order to minimize the impact on the battery life, the GIF will animate just once: right after you lock your phone by pressing the power key. Even though the new generations of Samsung and Apple flagships have been launched, OnePlus 5T remains the fastest smartphone in the market, at least according to a speed test. The famous YouTube channel PhoneBuff has published its nth speed test video. This time, the Chinese flagship has been compared with Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and iPhone X, the most powerful flagships from Samsung and Apple, respectively. The speed test consisted of opening several apps, then opening the same apps again to verify if there are reloads or the app has been kept open in the background.

While at the first opening iPhone X was the fastest phone among the three flagships, after the complete test, OnePlus 5T won the challenge. The Chinese flagship has completed the speed test in just one minute and 51 seconds. Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus finished at the second place with one minute and 53 seconds, while iPhone X has completed the test in two minutes and 18 seconds. With its stock user interface, OnePlus 5T has beaten Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus and its custom UI, as well as iPhone X and the wonderful iOS optimization.

Given that it took a while for the iPhone X to reload the apps, it seems that the Apple’s flagship has lost the battle because of its limited quantity of RAM (3 GB). The OnePlus 5T used in the video is the configuration with 8 GB of RAM and the octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ used is the American version with Snapdragon 845 and 6 GB of RAM. Both OP5T and S9+ have a UFS 2.1 internal storage, while iPhone X has an NVMe memory. Among these three devices, OnePlus 5T is the cheapest one. It starts from $499/€499, but note that it is already out of stock in the U.S. and it will be not available to purchase in this country anymore.

Just like last year, Microsoft partnered with Samsung and launched a customized version of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. The customized versions are now available for pre-orders on Microsoft Store. These variants do not run Windows 10 Mobile, but they are customized with the best Microsoft apps for Android. According to a spokesman from the Redmond giant, once you power on the phone and connect to Wi-Fi network, a “Microsoft Customization” will start to include Microsoft apps in the software. The apps included in the package are OneDrive, Excel, Skype, Word, OneNote, Cortana, Outlook, and Microsoft Launcher.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are available on Microsoft Store in their unlocked versions and they can be pre-ordered with free shipping in the U.S. According to the official pages, the handsets will start shipping starting from March 16. The price for the standard version of Samsung Galaxy S9 is $720, while the Plus version is priced $840. These variants may be very useful to users who care about productivity and own a Windows 10 PC which they use for work. Also, keep in mind that Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus can also be transformed into PCs thanks to DeX Pad, and using apps like docs on such a device would be even more useful.

The update has been reported from Germany and it is identified by the build number G960FXXU1ARC5 for the standard S9 and G965FXXU1A5C5 for the S9 Plus. Its almost 243 MB in size and, according to the official changelog it does not bring many changes. But it is still an important update because it includes important security fixes. The first update for Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus contains the March security patch, which is the latest released.

In case you do not know, Google releases a security patch every month to fix the most important vulnerabilities found on Android. The update also contains security fixes for Samsung’s firmware besides the ones by Google. From what the changelog suggests, the device stability has been improved and some bugs have been fixed as well. “New and / or enhanced features” have been implemented, but we do not know which features the changelog is talking about because they are not mentioned. At last, the log mentions further improvements to performance.

As expected, Samsung has today launched its two new smartphones in the Indian market — the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ at a launch event in New Delhi. Both the phones were originally unveiled at Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona.

While the devices have been launched in India today, Samsung India store had already opened pre-bookings for both — Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ right after the launch event in Barcelona. The devices were available for pre-booking for a price of Rs 2,000 (approximately $31).

One of the highlights for the Galaxy S9-series is that it comes with improved camera experience to take on the likes of Apple’s iPhone X and Google Pixel 2. DxOMark, which tests and rates smartphone cameras, has placed Samsung Galaxy S9+ as the best camera ahead of both its rivals.

Both phones bear resemblance with their predecessors in terms of design. However, there are some design changes like the repositioned fingerprint scanner that now sits below the rear camera, less rounded corners and slightly reduced bezels.

The screen of S9 and S9+ are curved towards the edges on the front and rear. Their aluminum frame that is flanked with curved Gorilla Glass panels on both sides. The devices come with IP68 certification that ensures that the phones are waterproof and dustproof.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9+ features 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED display, respectively which supports QHD+ resolution of 2960 x 1440 pixels. The company says that both phones come with a new kind of coating on the screen that delivers deeper blacks.

Both phones are powered by Samsung’s Exynos 9810 octa-core processor with Mali G72MP18 GPU. The Galaxy S9 packs 4GB RAM while the S9+ packs 6GB RAM. Both devices are available in two storage options — 64GB internal storage and 256GB onboard storage.

Coming to the camera specs, the Galaxy S9 features a 12-megapixel dual pixel rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture, and 960fps super slo-mo support. On the other hand, the Galaxy S9+ comes with a 12-megapixel primary rear camera and 12-megapixel secondary camera along with f/2.4-f/1.5 variable aperture, LED Flash, and 960fps super slo-mo support. On the front, the devices feature 8-megapixel auto-focus camera with wide-angle lens and f/1.7 aperture.

The devices are running Android Oreo operating system out-of-the-box with TouchWiz custom interface on top. While the Galaxy S9 is powered by a 3,000mAh battery, the Galaxy S9+ is powered by a 3,500mAh battery. Apart from the fingerprint reader, both phones are also equipped with security features like improved KNOX and Intelligent Scan that combines Iris Scanner and face recognition.

Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), VHT80 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth v5 (LE up to 2Mbps), GPS with GLONASS, USB 3.1, NFC and MST. The Galaxy S9 is powered by the 3,000mAh battery while the Galaxy S9+ is fuelled by a 3,500mAh battery and both devices come with wireless charging.

Pricing and Availability

In India, the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will be available in Midnight Black, Coral Blue, and Lilac Purple colors. As of the pricing, the 64GB ROM model of S9 costs Rs. 57,900 while the 256GB model is priced at Rs. 65,900. On the other hand, the 64GB model of S9+ is priced at Rs. 64,900 while the 256GB model costs Rs. 72,900.

After showcasing Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ at MWC 2018, Samsung has launched the Galaxy S9 in a new Enterprise Edition in Germany, alongside the cheaper brother Samsung Galaxy A8. These versions are focused on software and security, so they are excellent for business. The existence of an Enterprise Edition of these devices was already \ teased in a promotional video surfaced before the launch of the Galaxy S9, and now it is confirmed.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8 Enterprise Edition come with three-year licenses for Knox Configure (Dynamic Edition) and the Enterprise Firmware OTA service. Samsung has guaranteed a total of four years of security updates for these devices. To be accurate, there will be three years of monthly security updates and one year of quarterly updates. The administrator will be able to choose whether to install the firmware updates and the scheduled updates or not.

The Enterprise Editions of Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy A8 also come with a hybrid dual SIM slot: it will be possible to insert two SIM Cards or a SIM and a micro SD card. Two years of warranty are included in the package. Samsung Galaxy S9 Enterprise Edition has been launched with a price of €849 in Germany, while the A8 costs €499, which roughly translate into $1050 and $550, respectively.

Samsung announced its latest flagship smartphones — Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The South Korean giant has already revealed its pricing for the US, UK and Europe market and has also started taking pre-orders.

Along with those markets, the company has also started taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ in India through Samsung Shop. However, the company has not yet revealed the pricing information for the Indian market.

Samsung is expected to launch these flagship devices in the Indian market in the first week of March. Earlier, India-based online retailer Flipkart teased the launch of Galaxy S9 and S9+ in the India market and the company has said that it will soon reveal pre-order details.

If you want to book your Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ through Samsung Shop, head over to the online store (link) and select your device. When you click Pre-Order Now button, you’ll be asked to fill up a form with your name, email id, phone number, and the color option for the device.

Samsung has unveiled the new ringtone for its flagship Galaxy S9 smartphone which is billed to arrive at the end of this week. The ringtone is the “Over the Horizon” tune which has been the default option for Galaxy phones since 2011.

Huawei P20

Huawei P20 is another flagship phone that will be launched at MWC 2018. It will be offered in at least three models: Huawei P20, P20 Plus, and P20 Lite, with the third being a mid-range device. The first two, which will be the main Huawei flagships of H1 2018, will be the first device from the P series to sport a borderless display and an 18:9 or higher aspect ratio. Another distinctive thing will be a triple camera setup on the rear side which may feature a 5x hybrid zoom. The SoC will be the octa-core Kirin 970 with AI, and it should be paired with 6 or 8 GB of RAM depending on the variant that you will choose to buy. According to the latest leaks, even the Huawei P20 Lite will come with a bezel-less display and an iPhone X-like notch which will house the front camera and a small earpiece.

Nokia 9

Nokia 9 will be a flagship as well, the best flagship ever released by HMD Global. The company which acquired Nokia has already confirmed the event at MWC 2018, but not much is known about the specs of the upcoming flagship, and we do not even know for sure if it will really be showcased at the trade show. From what rumors and leaks suggest, this phone will come with an 18:9 display which will be curved at the sides. According to rumors, even though it will be a flagship, it will not sport a Snapdragon 845 SoC, instead it’ll feature Snapdragon 835 from 2017. Together with the high-end chipset, there should be 4 or 6 GB of RAM.

Sony Xperia XZ2 / XZ Pro

Sony will take advantage of MWC 2018 to launch its new flagships, just like the previous years. According to speculations, there may be two flagships: Sony Xperia XZ2 and XZ Pro; the latter might even be called Sony Xperia XZ Premium 2 — it is still unclear. With these devices, Sony will definitely abandon its OmniBalance design to embrace borderless displays. One of these flagships is expected to have a 4K display with a 5.7-inch size, and a Snapdragon 845 processor under the hood. Just like every Sony flagship, you can expect outstanding camera performances, as well as an elegant design and a well-optimized software side.

Asus Zenfone 5

With the hashtag #BackTo5 (because an Asus Zenfone 5 device has already been launched in the past), Asus has confirmed the official announcement of the Asus Zenfone 5 line-up at MWC 2018. At the trade show in Barcelona, we should see at least three models from this series. The standard version should be a midrange or upper-midrange device, probably with a Qualcomm Snapdragon from the 6xx series. Besides the normal variant, we will see the Asus Zenfone 5 Lite which will be the cheaper one, and the Asus Zenfone 5 Max which will be more affordable and focused on the battery life.

LG V30s

LG is rumored to have started the design of the LG G7 from scratch, and this means that the company will not showcase the handset at MWC 2018. LG G7 is said to be replaced by a more advanced version of the LG V30, which should be called LG V30s or LG V30 Plus Alpha. This version will arrive with new AI features and it will be also focused on camera performances. It is rumored to come with a feature to control the camera via Google Assistant and with a technology called Vision AI which will be able to apply filters and correct the colors automatically.

Motorola Moto G6

Motorola Moto G6 is the upcoming line of mid-range phones by the Lenovo-owned U.S. company. It will be composed of Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play, and it will be official at MWC 2018. Several renders have surfaced about these devices, and they highlight a glass back, a dual camera setup and 18:9 displays for Moto G6 and G6 Plus. Moto G6 Play will be a more affordable entry-level variant of these two devices. Moto G6 Plus will sport Snapdragon 630 SoC on the hardware side, and a 3250 mAh battery. Its standard version will have a lower-end Snapdragon 450  and a 3000 mAh battery.

It’s just a matter of days now before Samsung officially unveil the Galaxy S9 and S9+ at the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress 2018. The tech giant had hinted that it would take the wraps off its Galaxy S9 flagships on February 26.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 details have again got some confirmation from a Reddit user (also called Redditor) who claims to have spent about 20 minutes toying around with the phone. The thread turns out to be a very long and expository “Ask Me Anything” (Reddit AMA) session and is full of first-look impressions about the S9. The Reddit user hinted that indeed the Galaxy S9 is close in design to the S8 but the S9 doesn’t have a thicker side bezel just as seen on leaked renders. The major difference between both models is that this time around the fingerprint sensor is mounted underneath the rear camera and according to the dude, this still made him hit the rear camera a few times while trying to unlock the phone.

Another feature that got confirmed by the Redditor is the dual stereo speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack. One of the speakers would be located at the bottom, while a second one will be at the top, doubling as an earpiece. The sound output from the dual stereo speakers were said to have seen a major improvement compared to the Galaxy S8. Yet another major feature of the Galaxy S9 which could be its biggest selling point, apart from the chipset (Exynos 9810/SD 845) would be the cameras. The rear camera is earlier tipped as coming with variable aperture and  the source claims the camera can now do “4k60fps and higher framerates at 720p480 and 1080p240.” Looks like there is no 1000fps slow-mo, but the model which he had access to was the Snapdragon 845 model for the US, and the device in question was not a finalized retail version, so we could still get the slow mo.

Furthermore, the Redditor revealed that one feature that will be heavily promoted after the Galaxy S9 hits the market is the new 3D Emoji which allows users to create an avatar and control its facial features, similar to Apple’s animoji.  The guy didn’t disclose the pricing, claiming they aren’t allowed to discuss that but he just mentioned that the freebies that Samsung throws with the Galaxy S9 may take a different dimension compared to previous Galaxy S-series launches in the US.

Samsung is releasing its main flagship under the S-series since 2010, the epic year in which the Galaxy S was officially unveiled. At the end of this month, on February 25, the Korean giant will officially announce the 9th generation: Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, which should later be followed by the S9 Active. But according to a report from Korea, the S9 may be the last flagship from the S-series and there will not be a Samsung Galaxy S10.

The Korean company is rumored to adopt a new naming scheme for its flagships. To be accurate, the Samsung Galaxy S10 series is expected to be renamed to Samsung Galaxy X. It would be a perfect answer to the Apple iPhone X, and this is likely to avoid long names such as Galaxy S11 and S12 for its next flagships, which might not be the best names for a high-end device.

Until now, Samsung Galaxy X was rumored to be the first phone with a foldable display by the company, but we doubt that the Korean giant is planning to replace Samsung Galaxy S10 with such a phone.

Less than 20 days before the official launch, we can already see official cases of Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. MobileFun has published a new video in which we can see the original cases of the phones which will be released by the Korean giant. The smart cases, called Samsung S-View and Clear View, will have the same features as the ones for the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

The guys from MobileFun have tried to insert an S8 inside the S9 case and its features worked. Further, the test reveals that the dimensions of the Samsung Galaxy S9 will be nearly identical to the one of the S8, as it fits perfectly into the case. The features of the smart cases, which are not just simple covers, include checking the clock, notifications and answering calls.

It is also possible to use the cases as supports to make the phones stand horizontally in order to watch videos and use them without hands. The cases have also revealed that Samsung Galaxy S9 will be released in a Purple version, besides the known blue, black and rose gold hues. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be officially at MWC 2018: they will be showcased in an event which will be held on February 25.

We are not completely sure that we are talking about the Active version of the S9, it might even be a brand new version of the device, but seeing that the only variant of the S series released in the past few years is the Active variant, it is the most reliable hypothesis. The alleged code name of the phone contains an initial letter “a” which is not present in the code names of S9 and S9 Plus. The letter A might stand for Active, while the letter Q after “star” might stand for Qualcomm.

This means that it is the Samsung Galaxy S9 Active with the Snapdragon 845 SoC, so the one for the U.S. market. Every year Samsung releases an Active version of its main flagship, and probably this year will not be different. But Samsung Galaxy S9 Active might be announced months after the standard version which will be showcased at MWC 2018 (the official event will be held on February 25). Besides this device, the list also shows other upcoming Samsung devices: Galaxy C10, Galaxy C10 Plus, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2018, Galaxy Tab E 2018, Galaxy Tab S4, Galaxy J2 2018, Galaxy J3 Neo, another unknown version of the J3, Galaxy J6, Galaxy J7, another variant of the J7, Galaxy J8 and other unknown code names.

Photo leaks of the batteries that will be inside Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ have just surfaced online. According to the leak published on Slashleaks, the batteries of the next flagships that will be launched by the Korean leader of the smartphones market will have exactly the same battery capacity as the previous generation. After the Galaxy Note 7 scandal, it was expected. Samsung seems to have decided not to take any risk by increasing the battery capacity on both its new flagships: the standard version will still have a 3000 mAh battery, even though 3000 mAh is actually considered a below-average capacity for a flagship.

The battery capacity of Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus will be 3500 mAh, the same as the Galaxy S8 Plus. The photos contain the model numbers of the devices: SM-G9600 and S9-G965F, and they have been published by a parts retailer. They are not official photos, so we still can not confirm the authenticity of this leak. If this leak has to be believed and the capacity is really the same as the previous generation, the battery life should not differ so much between Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus. But obviously, there could be a better optimization, so expect a little improvement at least.

According to the company, the Samsung Exynos 9810 SoC that will be inside the European version of the devices will have “high graphics performances with lower energy consumption”. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 (the SoC of the U.S. version) instead will be able to bring a reduced power consumption of up to 15% at the same performance. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be officially showcased at MWC 2018, in an event that will be held on February 25 in Barcelona. They will feature a high screen-to-body ratio and their cameras will have variable apertures for better performances in all light conditions.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ designs could be said to be all but confirmed. We have basically seen it all via leaked renders, but we still wait anxiously to be the device in real life. But before that will happen on February 26, the internet keeps buzzing with leaked details and renders of the duo. We have just recently spotted the leaked renders of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ and they come from Canadian phone skin maker DBrand.

The renders are no different from the ones we have seen in the past but still, they are worth having a look at. We can’t say they are official renders as that is still elusive but these renders revive or rather, sort of reaffirm the rumor that the Galaxy S9+ will feature a dual camera setup while the Galaxy S9 will have a single rear camera. Both models are also expected to feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor placed directly under the rear camera instead of by the side as was done on the Galaxy S8 series.

In addition, the new renders also gift us a fair enough view of the front aspect of both devices. From the look of things, both flagship models will feature a similar design on the front part. What differentiates both is their display sizes. The Galaxy S9 will come with a 5.77-inch Quad HD+ dual-curved Super AMOLED display while the Galaxy S9+ will come with a bigger 6.22-inch Quad HD+ dual-curved Super AMOLED display. Both models will pack the Bixby button which is seen on the right side of the display while the volume rocker buttons and power key are located at the right side. Other details like the presence of a Snapdragon 845 chipset as well as an Exynos 9810 chipset are all but confirmed. Both models are billed to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event holding on February 25 in New York.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy S9 and S9+ flagships on February 25 at MWC 2018. Already the official invite has been sent out for the launch but that isn’t enough to prevent the rumor mills from continuing to buzz with new details regarding the flagship models. A popular Twitter tipster @Ricciolo has now come out to reveal that the Galaxy S9 will be Samsung’s most expensive smartphone series ever. This is coming out now even though the tipster made disclosure sometime last week via a tweet which also hinted that the S9 lineup will be unveiled at MWC. Samsung eventually confirmed the launch date a few days after making the assertion worth considering.

Despite the tipster’s credible track record of revealing accurately details of upcoming models, it doesn’t look feasible that Samsung will introduce the flagship models with a new, higher price tag.  The Galaxy S9 hand S9+ have featured on several leaked renders and the S9 dummy has even been spotted in a leaked video. The design looks very much like the Galaxy S8, with the prominent feature being the single rear camera. However, the Galaxy S9 is said to feature a single 12MP rear camera with optical image stabilization which also has a variable aperture (f/1.5 – f/2.4) lens. The variable aperture setup was first implemented on the Samsung W201 flip phone launched in China in November last year.

Apart from the upgraded camera and dual camera setup on the Galaxy S9+, both models are said to feature just incremental upgrades over the Galaxy S8 series. Of course, one major exception is the new processors that would be onboard. The models are expected to pack both the Snapdragon 845 chipset or an Exynos 8895 chipset in some cases. The Galaxy S8 was priced around $700 while the S8+ came in at around $800 last year. The 256GB variant of the S8+ surpassed the $1000 mark when it went on sale. But then, it would be a big gamble for Samsung to shoot up the Galaxy S9 lineup’s prices. So, we’ll keep our fingers crossed while we wait for the official details.

Samsung has already announced that it will unveil its flagship smartphone of the year — Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus on 25th February in Barcelona, a day ahead of the Mobile World Congress. While we pretty much knew what to expect from the upcoming devices, one thing that was not leaked so far was the press renders.

Now, Evan Blass (@evleaks), a reliable phone leaker, has shared the press renders of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, revealing the front side of the devices. The leak confirms what has been known — the design of the new flagship phones will be almost similar to their predecessors.

Samsung was praised for the design of the Galaxy S8 and its bigger variant, Galaxy S8 Plus. So it makes sense for the South Korean giant to carry-on with the same design. On the top bezels, there’s camera sensor as well as other sensors. It also wouldn’t be surprising if these sensors and camera offer front-facing selfies with a portrait effect, similar to the Pixel 2 and iPhone X.

As the Unpacked invitation suggests, the major highlight for both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus will be refreshed hardware and software for photography. We expect to see features like motion-detection, “super slow-mo” video capture, among others. Both devices are said to feature variable aperture on their primary 12-megapixel cameras. It will have a mechanical adjustment that switches between f/2.4 and smallest-in-class f/1.5.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus will be officially announced at MWC 2018 and its likely going to happen on February 26. Samsung’s event details were spotted on the official MWC website, confirming the likely launch of the new flagships. The event details page comes with the Samsung logo attached, and an image showing the exact place, date and time of the presentation. According to the official web page, the new flagships of the Korean giant will be showcased on Monday 26th February in an event which will be held from 15.00 to 18.30 local time.

The location in which the event (Samsung Mobile Enterprise Summit) will be held is “Hall 8.0 NEXTech Theatre A”. February 26 is the date on which Mobile World Congress 2018 will start in Barcelona and the location mentioned will be included in the trade show. So this leaked info kind of confirms that the flagships will be unveiled at MWC 2018. But it is worth mentioning that Samsung hasn’t confirmed anything about this event, at least not yet.

The doors will be open from 14.00 for people to attend the event. Several leaks have surfaced about Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+, so we don’t have to wait until the reveal date to know the important features about the handsets. Aesthetically, the phones will just be a slight upgrade over their predecessor. There will still be an Infinity Display on the front panel, but the screen-to-body ratio will be higher, thanks to narrower bezels. The displays will have sizes of 5.77 and 6.22 inches, respectively. The back side should be made of glass just like the predecessors, while the frame should be made of metal. Expect the IP68 certification for water and dust-resistance. Under the hood, the handsets will sport an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC in the U.S. version and an octa-core Samsung Exynos 9810.

Both the processors have an integrated module for artificial intelligence, so they will be able to perform smart tasks. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus are expected to come with very interesting cameras which will have a variable aperture. It will be possible to switch from f/1.5 to f/2.4 depending on the light conditions, to make more or less light to enter the sensor. While the standard version of Samsung Galaxy S9 will have 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, the Plus version is said to have 6 GB of RAM. The phones might come in a bundle with a new version of DeX called DeX Pad, which will allow to use the phones as touch pads while connected to a monitor. Also, note that only the Plus version will get a dual camera setup, while the standard version will have a single camera. This time, the fingerprint reader will be positioned under the rear camera, so it will not be uncomfortable to use it. South Korean tech giant Samsung is just a couple of weeks short of launching its 2018 flagship Galaxy S9 and S9+. Both models are already billed to make their grand entrance at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 holding from February 26 to March 1 in Barcelona. Ahead of its official unveiling, we may just have spotted a real live photo of the Galaxy S9 which appeared in a short video clip recently uploaded on Weibo.

The short clip appears to be a test video and it only shows the on-screen keyboard being tested. The view affords us an opportunity to see the front screen with its much-reduced bezels. The side bezels are almost non-existent while the bottom edge which is visible features an ultra-thin bezel. Same also applies to the top bezels but that isn’t very visible here. We hope to see more leaks as the launch date draws closer.

Samsung is expected to officially unveil its 2018 flagship Galaxy S9 and S9+ at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) holding next month at Barcelona, Spain. Ahead of the launch, more details of the two flagship models continue to appear online. The latest leak the Galaxy S9 series are getting comes in form of the specifications of their cameras.

As we had already seen on previous leaks and even on renders, the Galaxy S9 is expected to feature a single rear camera just like its predecessor but the Galaxy S9+ is expected to pack a dual camera setup at the rear. The leaked details which purportedly emanated from South Korea shed more light on the camera specs of the duo. The details include that the Galaxy S9 will indeed feature a single 12MP rear camera with optical image stabilization which also has a variable aperture (f/1.5 – f/2.4) lens. The variable aperture setup was first implemented on the W2018 which was launched in November last year but this the first time such hardware will be available on a flagship model. The variable aperture lens allows users to adjust the aperture before taking a photo. The bright f/1.5 aperture lens should also allow the Galaxy S9 to deliver significantly improved low-light performance compared to the Galaxy S8 as well as the Galaxy Note 8.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S9+ dual camera setup is tipped to comprise of two 12MP sensors. The primary sensor comes with a f/1.5 aperture lens while the secondary sensor will pair with a f/2.4 aperture lens. The setup will allow users to capture photos using both sensors simultaneously, resulting in a superior image quality compared to previous Galaxy flagships. Secevral models of a Samsung smartphone believed to be the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ reportedly received China’s Compulsory Certificate (3C) last week.

The Samsung Galaxy models that got 3C nod include models bearing the model numbers SM-G9650/DS, SM-G9600/DS, and the SM-G9608/DS. The SM-G9600/DS model is said to be the Chinese variant of the Galaxy S9 while SM-G9608/DS is the Galaxy S9+. In addition, the SM-G9608/DS is said to be the smaller 5.8-inch Galaxy S9+ model that is meant for the Taiwan market.The suffix “DS” attached to the model number shows that all three models are expected to have dual SIM car slots. The SIM slots of all three models are expected to follow suit with the Hybrid SIM etup of the Galaxy S8 series where the second SIM slot can be interchanged with a microSD card.

As usual, 3C listing doesn’t reveal much details regarding the specifications of the smartphone but is a sure indication that the launch is somewhat imminent. Previous leaks point to the use of the flagship Snapdragon 845 chip on the Galaxy S9 while some models will have an Exynos 9810 processor. The 3C listing also shows all the three models will come with fast charging support at 9V /1.67A and 5V / 2A. Apart from these few details, nothing else is revealed but we hope to see more details in the coming days, especially when the models hit TENAA.
