Alongside the launch of new devices, Samsung also unveiled the next-generation Galaxy tablets. The Galaxy Tab S9 lineup comprises of the standard, plus, and ultra variants. These arrive as the successors to the last year’s respective Tab S8 series models. In this post, we will take a look at the Galaxy Tab S9 and S9+. 

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9, S9+ specifications and features

Both the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and Tab S9+ boast a dynamic AMOLED 2X display. The former offers an 11-inch WQXGA resolution whereas the latter has a slightly upgraded 12.4-inch WQXGA+ panel. Both devices feature a 120Hz refresh rate, an optical in-screen fingerprint scanner, and S-Pen support. 

Design-wise, the Galaxy Tab S9 duo has minimal bezels on the front surrounding the display. The back panel has dual protruding camera sensors and there is a vertical strip that can be magnetically used to attach the stylus. The Galaxy Tab S9 series are the first tablets to feature an IP68 dust and water-resistant rating.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 features a single 13MP rear camera whereas the S9+ has 13MP and 8MP camera sensors. Both tablets pack a 12MP front-facing selfie snapper. On the audio front, the tablets are equipped with quad speakers tuned by AKG and Dolby Atmos.

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and S9+ house a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. Both pack up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. The standard variant is backed by an 8,000mAh battery unit whereas the plus model draws its power from a 10,090mAh cell.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 starts at $799 / EUR 799 whereas the Tab S9+ carries a starting price tag of $1,149 / EUR 999 for the base model. Both tablets are available for pre-order with shipments commencing from August 11. They are offered in Beige and Graphite colors.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Tab S9, the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus, and the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Watch 6 series. Ahead of the launch, well-known tipster Ishan Agarwal has revealed the key specifications of the Galaxy Tab S9 series.

According to the tipster, the Galaxy Tab S9 will be equipped with an 11-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen that offers a WQXGA resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels. On the front, the device will feature a 12-megapixel camera, and its rear panel will be equipped with a 13-megapixel camera. It has an 8,400mAh battery, 12 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. The device will measure 254.8 x 165.8 x 5.9mm. 

The Galaxy Tab S9 Plus will arrive with a 12.4-inch Dynmic AMOLED 2X display that produces a WQXGA+ resolution of 2800 x 1782 pixels. For photography, it will feature a 12-megapixel front camera and a 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual-camera system. It will come with a 10,090mAh battery, 12 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. It will have 285.4 x 185.4 x 5.7mm dimensions.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will be equipped with a larger 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that offers a WQXGA+ resolution of 2960 x 1898 pixels. It will feature a pair of 12-megapixel cameras on the front, whereas it will be equipped with a 13-megapixel + 8-megapixel dual-camera system. The tablet will come with 16 GB of RAM, 1 TB of storage, and 11,200mAh battery. It will have the largest form factor in the series measuring at 326.4 x 208.6 x 5.5mm. 

The Galaxy Tab S9 series is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy, which operates at 3.36GHz. The same chip is present under the hood of the Galaxy S23 series of smartphones. The series will offer other common features, such as four speakers, an optical in-display fingerprint sensor, and an S-Pen with bilateral charging.

Samsung is making preparations for an upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event expected to take place towards the end of July. According to leaked information, this event will showcase several devices, including the highly anticipated Galaxy Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Tab S9 series, and Watch 6 series. Recently, there were leaked renders of the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets, but they were subsequently removed due to a formal request from Samsung. However, a new leak has now revealed some details regarding the display specifications of these tablets.

Twitter user Ahmed Qwaider has revealed some key changes coming to the Galaxy Tab S9 lineup. According to Ahmed, Samsung has opted to equip the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 series with Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays, departing from the LCD and Super AMOLED panels seen in the Galaxy Tab S8 lineup. This transition to Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays is expected to offer enhanced contrast ratios and HDR functionality compared to the previous LCD and Super AMOLED screens.

Despite the display upgrade, all models within the Galaxy Tab S9 series will retain the 120 Hz refresh rates seen in their predecessors. Additionally, the tablet sizes are rumored to include an 11-inch display for the Galaxy Tab S9, a 12.4-inch display for the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus, and a 14.6-inch display for the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra.

According to recent leaks, the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 series is expected to introduce a battery capacity upgrade for the entry-level model. The Galaxy Tab S9 is rumored to feature a battery capacity of 8,400 mAh, slightly higher than the 8,000 mAh found in its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S8. On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus and Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra are anticipated to retain their battery capacities at 10,900 mAh and 11,200 mAh, respectively.

Samsung is planning to introduce its new range of flagship Android tablets in the second half of 2023. The lineup is expected to feature three tablets: Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9 Plus, and Tab S9 Ultra. While the Ultra variant has already had a bunch of leaks, not much is known about the Plus model. Now, the Galaxy Tab S9 Plus has made an appearance on Geekbench.

The Tab S9 Plus appeared on Geekbench with the model number SM-X818U. The listing has revealed its performance along with some key specifications. The model number reveals that the device is meant for the US market. It features an octa-core processor with a 1 + 3 + 4 core configuration. The codename “Kamala” reveals that it is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor.

What’s interesting is the peak clock speed, which is more than what the stock Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip comes with. This all but confirms that the chipset inside this tablet is the special Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy. The same chip is used in the Galaxy S23 flagship smartphone lineup. The device is expected to come with a whopping 12GB of RAM and will run on the latest Android 13 operating system out of the box.

The Samsung flagship tablet put up an impressive performance during the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, achieving a single-core score of 2049 points and a multi-core score of around 5492 points. While this is a commendable feat, it remains to be seen if the tablet can maintain this level of performance over time. Furthermore, it will be intriguing to observe how this added processing power translates to tackling demanding tasks on the device.

Samsung‘s upcoming premium tablet, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, has had its key specs leaked ahead of its official launch. Tipster Ice Universe has provided details on the tablet’s dimensions, display, battery, and performance.

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will have the same dimensions as its predecessor, the Tab S8 Ultra, measuring 208.6 x 326.4 x 5.5mm. It will feature a 14.6-inch WQXGA+ display and will pack an 11,200mAh battery that supports 45W fast charging, though a charger is unlikely to be included in the box. The tablet’s weight is said to be approximately 737 grams, making it slightly heavy due to the tall form factor and a beefy battery.

The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will also reportedly have an upgraded performance unit, as Samsung will equip it with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which features a customized version of the flagship chipset with a peak clock speed of 3.36GHz, the same as the Galaxy S23 series. The tablet is also expected to offer up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM.

In terms of durability, the Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will have an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, which is not commonly seen in Android tablets. This means that the device can withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes, and is also resistant to dust.

The addition of an Ultra model is not surprising, considering that Samsung has been using the Ultra branding for its most powerful devices. The Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra will likely offer top-of-the-line features, although we don’t know what those features will be yet. All three models will be available in both Wi-Fi-only and cellular (5G) variants and come to the US.

The model numbers have also been revealed, with the base Galaxy Tab S9 identified as SM-X710 (Wi-Fi), SM-X716B (5G Global), and SM-X718U (5G US). The Galaxy Tab S9+ will bear the model numbers SM-X810 (Wi-Fi), SM-X816B (5G Global), and SM-X818U (5G US).
