On the top of the list is a new Fall Detection feature, designed to identify hard falls when a wearer is moving. The new update will enable an option to adjust the sensitivity for the same. You can even choose to detect a fall when you are standing still. Once the watch detects a fall, it sends an SOS notification to selected contacts to ensure that the wearer gets assistance as soon as possible. The feature will be coming to the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.

Next in line is Group Challenge that enables one to add friends or family to a workout challenge, boosting the incentive to stay fit. All of it can be managed from the watch itself and the feature will also let you track your own place in the competition or see how you’re performing as a team.

Samsung Health Monitor app has also arrived on the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3. It allows the user to track their heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep, and stress. It is currently available in a total of 42 markets.

Moving on to the customization part, you can enjoy 10 additional watch faces that first launched with the Galaxy Watch4. There are new bold Big Number and Active watch faces along with a more minimal-looking Classic one. Some of these have additional personalization features and support taps to switch between various looks.

In a bid to extend the relevance and functionality of the Samsung Galaxy Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active, Samsung will be introducing new updates to the firmware of these smart wearables to incorporate several features that were originally in the latest smartwatch from Samsung, the Galaxy Watch 3.

The delightful Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 comes loaded with several new features like blood pressure reading, heartbeat measuring functionality for ECG, and others.

Users of the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active in South Korea and the United States are reported to have started seeing the updates, while it is expected to subsequently be seen in other parts of the world.

The new updates, for now, shall be via TizenHelp, and provides several additions to the two smartwatches, from improvements on the notification process to allow image notifications, and image prompts for messages. The updates would also improve the conversational experience with the inclusion, layout and recording and vital measurements functionalities that are essentially meant to extend the lifespan of both the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active by a few more years.

The updates will come with respective firmware versions of R810XXU1FUB6, for the Galaxy Watch and R500XXUF1UB5 for the Galaxy Watch Active.

The move to seemingly retool the Galaxy Watch and the Galaxy Watch Active could be seen as a reflection of Samsung’s policy to continue to make previous models still relevant by this massive update. The owners of these smart wearables will always be the better for it.

The company also unveiled a number of products, one of which is the Galaxy Watch Active smartwatch. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active comes as a replacement for the Gear Sport. The new Galaxy Watch Active focuses more on physical activities and user health but the design looks very sleek rather than rugged. The smartwatch ditches the rotating bezel which has been a feature on previous Samsung Gear watches. Instead, it comes with a significantly thinner and cleaner bezel that wraps around the 1.1-inch circular display.

The Galaxy Watch Active comes with an aluminium casing paired with a simplistic rubber strap. The smartwatch also features two round physical buttons along the right side which replace the previous pill-shaped ones. The smartwatch also comes with a new glass panel on the rear that houses a heart rate monitor. On the internal, the Watch Active comes with the latest version of Tizen operating system but with several updates in the user interface. The smartwatch features an AMOLED display and is powered by a 236mAh battery under its hood which can deliver up to 24 hours usage out of a single charge.

In terms of features, the Galaxy Watch Active focuses heavily on fitness. It tracks three main parameters daily: calories burned, minutes of exercise, and moving each hour. Each of these is tracked with their respective graphs that are highlighted in different colors. Other features include continuous heart rate monitoring which allows users to keep track of their heart rate throughout the day. The Galaxy Watch Active will also warn users if it detects any irregularities, just like Apple Watch. The watch also comes with an app known as My BP Lab which is for blood pressure monitoring.

The watch comes with 4GB of storage and has Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC support for mobile payments. Unfortunately, the wearable isn’t available with 3G or 4G LTE support. It is available in four colors; Silver, Black, Rose Gold, Sea Green and will retail for just $199.99 in the US. The smartwatch is expected to start shipping on March 8.
