A major new software update will be rolling out to the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Watch Active, Galaxy Watch Active2, and Galaxy Watch3 from November 15th, bringing along a number of new features and customization goodies.

On the top of the list is a new Fall Detection feature, designed to identify hard falls when a wearer is moving. The new update will enable an option to adjust the sensitivity for the same. You can even choose to detect a fall when you are standing still. Once the watch detects a fall, it sends an SOS notification to selected contacts to ensure that the wearer gets assistance as soon as possible. The feature will be coming to the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.

Next in line is Group Challenge that enables one to add friends or family to a workout challenge, boosting the incentive to stay fit. All of it can be managed from the watch itself and the feature will also let you track your own place in the competition or see how you’re performing as a team.

Samsung Health Monitor app has also arrived on the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3. It allows the user to track their heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep, and stress. It is currently available in a total of 42 markets.

Moving on to the customization part, you can enjoy 10 additional watch faces that first launched with the Galaxy Watch4. There are new bold Big Number and Active watch faces along with a more minimal-looking Classic one. Some of these have additional personalization features and support taps to switch between various looks.

The Galaxy Watch3 is the latest smartwatch in town and it not only puts advanced health technology on your wrist but also does it with style.

Galaxy Watch3 Design

The watch boasts a design you will find on luxury watches and is made from materials such as stainless steel, titanium (select model), and high-quality leather.

The display is now bigger and the much-loved rotating bezel has been retained. Even with the larger screen, Samsung says the Galaxy Watch3 is 14% thinner, 8% smaller and 15% lighter than the first-gen Galaxy Watch.

The Galaxy Watch3 is available in two sizes – 41mm and 45mm. The latter will be available in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver while the bigger model comes in Mystic Black and Mystic Silver.

Galaxy Watch3 specifications

The Galaxy Watch3 45mm has a 1.4-inch display while the 41mm version has a 1.2-inch display. Both are Always-On displays with a resolution of 360 x 360 and Gorilla Glass DX protection. There are more than 80,000 watch faces to choose from in the Galaxy store and there are 40 different ways to personalize a watch face.

There is an Exynos 9110 dual-core processor clocked at 1.15GHz inside the watch along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The watch runs Tizen based Wearable OS 5.5 and packs lots of features some of which, sadly, are region-specific.

The Galaxy Watch3 brings Blood Oxygen monitoring (Sp02) for measuring and tracking oxygen saturation. The watch will also come with a blood pressure monitor and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitor. Another feature Samsung has added is Fall Detection. Other features are Running Analysis, VO2 Max, sleep management, and a library of over 120 different video workouts.

The new Samsung smartwatch has a 5 ATM waterproof rating and an IP68 rating. It also has Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS (GLONASS, Beidou, and Galileo). The 41mm version has a 247mAh battery while the 45mm version has a 340mAh battery

Galaxy Watch3 Price and Availability

The Galaxy Watch3 goes on sale tomorrow in the US with a price tag of $399.99 for the 41mm version without LTE and $449.99 for the LTE version. The 45mm version without LTE is $429.99 and the LTE version is $479.99.

There is hardly any doubt that Samsung will go official with the Galaxy Watch 3 in the coming months. That is because of the intensity at which details of the smartwatch are hitting the limelight. The smartwatch has now been certified by the NCC with a photo splash to show for it.

The images show the premium watch with a silver exterior and a black leather band. The watch is expected to be available in three colours – Black Silver and Bronze. The model pictured in this listing is obviously the Silver variant.

In addition, the Galaxy Watch 3 is expected to come in two sizes – 45mm and 41mm. The 45mm model measures 45 x 46.2 x 11.1 and it houses a 1.4-inch display and a 340mAh battery. On the other hand, the 41mm edition of the smartwatch will have 41 x 42.5 x 11.3mm dimensions and it will sport a 1.2-inch screen. This model will draw power from a 247mAh battery.

On the connectivity front, the Galaxy Watch 3 will support LTE and GPS. When it comes to health sensors, it will offer users a heart rate sensor, blood pressure monitoring, and electrocardiogram (ECG). It is unclear whether ECG will be available globally at launch. It will offer users with 8 GB of native storage. Its processor will be coupled with 1 GB of RAM.

The Galaxy Watch 3 will be coming with a MIL-STD-810G rated and IP68 certified chassis. It will be available in stainless steel and titanium editions. The screen will be safeguarded by Gorilla Glass DX.

The Watch3 will ship with a wireless charger with a power output of 5 W. The charger will be powered by a regular USB-A to microUSB cable. We also took note of the rotating bezel which is making a return on the Watch3 after missing out on the Watch2.

Still taking of the Galaxy Watch 3, popular tipster Evan Blass has shared a teaser video of the Watch 3 which features demos of several catch faces and their widgets. The video also teases some major features of the smartwatch such as checking messages, answering calls and a music player.

The Galaxy Watch 3 is expected to be unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for August 5. The main highlight of the event is the Galaxy Note 20 unveiling.
