Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro has surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG certification site with the model number SM-G736U_NA_XAU. The listing does not offer any details regarding this handset, however, it is expected to be the long-rumored Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro 2. Recent leaks and rumors have hinted at several key design features and specifications of the smartphone. It is believed to be the brand’s first 5G rugged smartphone. It is expected to feature a Snapdragon 778G Processor and run Android 12-based OneUI skin.

As initially spotted by Mukul Sharma, Samsung Galaxy XCover6 Pro has appeared on the Bluetooth SIG website. The listing only revealed the model number and phone’s name. It didn’t have any specifications of the smartphone. A recent Google Play listing revealed that the Galaxy XCover6 Pro is just a renamed Galaxy XCover Pro 2.

Past reports have hinted at the Galaxy XCover6 Pro being a 5G smartphone unlike its predecessor Galaxy XCover Pro. The smartphone allegedly has a rugged design and will sport a 6.5-inch Full HD+ display with 1080 x 2408-pixel resolution and a pixel density of 450 dots per inch.

The Samsung handset is also believed to be powered by a Snapdragon 778G SoC. The device will likely measure 169.5mm x 81.1mm x 10.1mm and run an Android 12-based operating system out of the box. It will also come with a 3.5mm audio jack. As per the leaked render images, the smartphone will have a dew-drop notch and thick bezels going around the display. The handset is also shown to have a dual rear camera unit, arranged in the top left corner.

US retail giant Walmart is giving about 740,000 of its employees a free Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro smartphone as part of its rollout plans for its new employee app. The employees are free to use the smartphone, which costs around $500, for official and personal use.

Walmart’s new employee app is called Me@Walmart. According to the company, the app will simplify daily tasks, help staff offer excellent services to customers, and help employees plan activities outside the workplace. The app will allow employees to clock in and clock out during their shifts. In addition, employee scheduling, Voice Assistant support, and several features significantly enhance employee performance and the speed of accomplishing tasks.

There are concerns, though, that the new employee app may infringe on employee privacy. However, Walmart has stated that it does not have access to personal data on the phone, and employees cannot access the app when not on scheduled work. Walmart says it desires to equip its employees with the necessary cutting-edge tools that would make them remain competitive in the retail space.

Samsung‘s flagship Galaxy XCover Pro is a rugged smartphone suitable for field workers and it was launched in the US in April 2020. It is crammed with features that stand it out as a business-oriented smartphone. It has a barcode scanner built into the primary camera, and the device can be customized into a mobile Point of Sale terminal. Its enhanced security and reliability features make it a perfect choice for the activities that Walmart has deployed it for.

Walmart hopes to completely distribute the flagship phone models to 740,000 of its fans by the year’s end. It expects to see more excellent employee performance with the deployment of the incentive of a durable personal smartphone for up to half of its current employees.

Samsung has released the latest Android security patches for some of its devices, well ahead of the official publication by Google in the Android Security Bulletin. This latest update reflects the changing approach of the tech giant in providing timely monthly updates for its devices. Samsung previously has not had a stellar record specifically in relation to providing regular security updates to its wide array of devices. However, the company has been working hard to change this narrative over the past few months, with a noticeable improvement in its update schedule.

The affected smartphone models include the Galaxy S20 lineup, the Galaxy S20 FE, and the Galaxy S9. The company has also released similar updates for the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy XCover Pro.

The update for most of the models are available in many parts of the world, with countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe already covered. Ultimately, the aim is to provide these security patches to the global market in a timely fashion and with minimal effort by the user.

The update for the Galaxy Note 10 series (version N97xFXXS6DTK8) is rolling out in Europe presently, while other regions of the world will follow shortly. Similarly, the Galaxy XCover Pro can also be updated in Europe – the update includes the Android security patches for December 2020.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Note 10, and Galaxy XCover Pro users should download the update on their devices by going to the Software update section in the device settings. In case the update is not available on the device yet, you can download the firmware package from Samsung’s update server using tools like Samloader and install it manually using a Windows computer. Samsung first unveiled the Galaxy Xcover Pro in Finland way back in January this year. The tech giant has now launched the rugged Galaxy smartphone in the US. It hits the market with a price tag of $500.

The Galaxy Xcover Pro is officially introduced as a rugged smartphone for frontline workers. The ruggedness of the build makes it suitable for use by field workers who work in terrain that is not friendly to the regular high-end smartphones. The device is also crammed with features that make it a business-oriented model.

One of such features is the barcode scanner which is built into the rear camera. The camera is compatible with several laser-based scanner accessories that can turn this into a mobile point of sale system. The device also comes with NFC as well as several enhanced security and reliability features, including support for Europay, Mastercard and Visa. You also get a walkie-talkie (push-to-talk) feature onboard.

In terms of the hardware, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover Pro features a IP68 rugged build meaning it can survive 1.5m underwater for 30 minutes. It is also MIL-STD-810 certified and can withstand drops from 1.5m heights. The device packs a huge 6.3-inch AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution of 2340 x 1080pixels. The device has a Glove mode and can detect touches from wet fingers. There are also two programmable keys, which can act as shortcuts for the most commonly used functions. It crams a 4,050mAh battery under the hood with support for 18W fast charge. The device has a set of Pogo pins for wireless charging on a dock.

The Galaxy Xcover Pro is available online through Samsung, Verizon and Microsoft as well as other distributors in the US. The phone will also be available unlocked and will be sold on Brick and mortar stores soon.
