Samsung has launched a limited-edition Galaxy Z Flip 5. It’s called the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition, and it has been designed in partnership with Paris-based high-end fashion house Maison Margiela. 

It is the company’s second collaboration with Samsung, with the first one being the Galaxy Z Flip 4 Maison Margiela Edition. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition Overview

The Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition features a semi-transparent back panel that reveals the inner workings of the phone. This design is inspired by Maison Margiela’s signature deconstructed aesthetic.

The phone displays Maison Margiela’s iconic jacket on its semi-transparent back and comes bundled with two cases: a Flap Leather Case and a Flipsuit Case.

The Flap Leather Case showcases an atelier’s craftsmanship through its natural black leather, woven fabric design, and genuine fabric label. When the device is opened, it showcases a pocket pattern, and closing the device hides it.

The Flipsuit Case comes with two NFC-based cards: one with a paint splatter design and the other with a silver plate. Both cards display Maison Margiela’s iconic numbering design. Switching to any of these cards also switches the device’s theme to that particular pattern.

The device also comes with a special theme and two wallpapers: Stitches and Trompe-L’oeil. The Stitches wallpaper displays handwoven stitches on the cover and inner screens, while the Trompe-L’oeil wallpaper displays a jacket’s inner workings.

The attention to detail extends beyond the phone itself to its packaging. The retail box is wrapped in a paper-based woven book cloth fabric and comes with special in-box contents.

The box includes a USB Type-C to Type-C Cable and a 25W charger, which is not included with the standard Z Flip 5. As for the specifications of the phone itself, they remain largely similar to the regular model.

Price and Availability

The limited-edition Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition is now available in China, Hong Kong, and South Korea with a generous 512GB storage. In South Korea, the phone carries a price tag of KRW 2,497,000 ($1,923) and is available through a lottery system on Samsung.com.

South Korean customers eager to get their hands on this exclusive device can apply through Samsung’s website from 9 AM to 5 PM on November 30. The lucky winners will be notified on December 1, 2023, at 9 AM.

For those curious about the phone’s design and features, Samsung Gangnam and Samsung Store Hongdae in South Korea will be showcasing the Galaxy Z Flip 5 Maison Margiela Edition from today ie. November 23.

Samsung today announced the release of the Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro, a limited-edition phone that commemorates the company’s 20-year legacy of innovation in foldable phones. The Z Flip5 Retro is inspired by the SGH-E700, Samsung’s first flip phone with a built-in antenna, which was released in 2003.

The Flip5 Retro features a retro design with Indigo blue and silver colors, reminiscent of the E7000. It also comes with some nostalgic pixel graphics UI tweaks and a cityscape animation on its Flex Window cover screen.

Samsung has also gone the extra mile with the packaging for the Flip5 Retro. The phone will ship in a box with logos of both the Z Flip5 and the E700, as well as Flipsuit cards with stickers featuring the various Samsung logos from past eras. The package will also include a Samsung E700 collector card engraved with a unique serial number.

Despite its retro design, the Z Flip5 Retro has the same high-end specs as the regular Z Flip5. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor and has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has a triple-lens rear camera system with a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor.

The Galaxy Z Flip5 Retro will be available in limited quantities in South Korea from November 1, and in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, and Australia from November 2. Pricing details are not provided yet.

Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in brand-new color options in the Indian market. The company’s official notes state that this is a special edition model, which adds four fresh color variants to its latest foldable smartphone.

The South Korean tech giant’s latest release is a special edition Galaxy Z Flip 5 model. For those unaware, it is a flagship clamshell folding phone. At the moment, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 already arrives in four color options, namely Mint, Cream, Graphite, and Lavender. Now, the smartphone will be released in four new color variants. This includes a Yellow, Gray, Blue, and Green version which joins the existing colors.

Apart from the external design, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is essentially the same on the inside. Despite being a special edition model, the new launch retains the same price tag as all of the other variants. So the foldable phone still starts from 99,999 INR for the base 256GB storage variant. Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip 5 globally in July this year. It was initially offered in four color options – Mint, Graphite, Cream, and Lavender. Now, the fifth-generation clamshell folding phone is confirmed to arrive in a new color option in the Indian market. The South Korean brand shared the announcement on its X profile. It seems that the upcoming variant is a part of the Dussehra and Diwali festivities in the country. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 new color option arriving next week

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available in a Yellow color option. The second (bottom) half portion of the back panel has a Yellow hue. However, compared to the other color options, the frame on the upcoming offering appears to be in Black. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 in Yellow will be launching on October 17th. 

Samsung has put up a notify me page where interested customers can register their interest in the upcoming variant. We should learn the pricing and availability of the device next Tuesday and we expect it to be the same as the current color variants. 

As for the core specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. There is a large 3.4-inch folder-shaped secondary sAMOLED display with 1,600 nits peak brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate. The clamshell phone features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. The device has a 12MP + 12MP rear cameras and a 10MP front-facing selfie snapper. Internally, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor coupled with 8GB RAM and 512GB storage. It is backed by a 3,700mAh battery unit with support for 25W fast charging.

It’s been a month since Samsung launched the fifth-generation Galaxy Z foldables. Both the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 are already available for purchase across the world.  The latest generation foldables feature a new Flex Hinge mechanism for improved durability, smooth experience, and dust resistance. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 was subjected to JerryRigEverything’s durability test earlier this month revealing surprising results. Now the clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 5 has undergone the popular YouTuber’s intensive durability test. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 survives durability test

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a significantly upgraded clamshell foldable phone compared to its predecessor. It has become quite popular among customers in global markets. Zack starts the video by comparing the Z Flip 5 with the Motorola Razr Ultra where the former can be seen with a boxy form factor and smaller secondary screen compared to slim profile and larger display on the latter. 

As usual, the video starts with Zack doing a scratch test first on the secondary display. It gets minor scratches at level 6 Mohs hardness scale with deeper grooves at level 7. Samsung is using the Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for the exterior screen. The South Korean brand uses ultra-thin glass (UTG) for its inner display. It starts producing scratches at level 2 and deeper grooves at level 3. Fingernail marks are also quite visible. However, this is not surprising as it is in line with previous models. Additionally, Samsung also warns about pressing too hard on the surface. The clamshell foldable phone already comes with a pre-installed screen protector that is not supposed to be removed. 

Zack then proceeds to the scrape test which takes scratches on all sides of the anodized aluminium middle frame. The flex hinge on the back is also made up of aluminium and it develops scratches. The back panel of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is also shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus making it resistant to scratches. The YouTuber pours dust and dirt on the inner screen and the hinge at the back. Surprisingly, the device was able to fold completely flat. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is then subjected to a burn test where the outer and inner screens withstand flame for 10 and 15 seconds respectively.  The power button that doubles up as a fingerprint sensor was able to register scans with minor scratches, however, after additional abuse, it stopped working completely. 

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 finally undergoes the most stressful part of Zack’s durability test – the bend test. This is the test that this year’s Google Pixel Fold and Motorola Razr+ didn’t survive. Samsung’s latest generation clamshell foldable came out unscathed! Zack tried to bend it with ample pressure from the backside but it held its ground. This is a true testament to Samsung’s efforts to improve durability. It also gives Galaxy Z Flip 5 an upper hand over the Motorola Razr+.

Now, the brand has announced that India is the latest market where the devices have secured record bookings. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 record pre-booking in India, the sale date announced

Samsung revealed that the company received 1,00,000 pre-bookings for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 in India. This was achieved in the first 28 hours of the opening of the pre-booking window on July 27th. The latest generation Z Fold 5 and z Flip 5 surpassed the last year’s Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 5. The figure is 1.7 times higher than the pre-bookings Samsung received for the last year’s models. 

It’s worth noting that Samsung did not exactly reveal the pre-order numbers as of today for the fifth-generation foldable in India. They are only for the first 28 hours when the pre-order window opened and not for the two weeks till today. Samsung Southwest Asia CEO JB Park hopes that the new devices will help mainstream foldable and also help consolidate their leadership in India. 

Some customers who pre-ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 will get their units delivered on August 11. Additionally, Samsung also revealed that both foldable phones will be available for purchase starting August 18 at leading online and offline stores across the country. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts at Rs 99,999 whereas the Z Fold 5 starts at Rs 1,54,999 for the base variants. Both foldable phones went up for pre-orders on the day of launch with shipments set to commence from August 11 in multiple countries across the globe. Now the South Korean brand has revealed that both devices have smashed pre-order records in its home market. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 pre-order records in South Korea

Samsung opened pre-orders for its latest-generation foldable phones in its home country on August 1. As of today, the company announced that it has received 1.02 million pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. It broke the previous record of 9,70,000 units held by the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 last year. 

Samsung said that this time the Galaxy Z Flip 5 was more popular than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. The former recorded 70 percent of total pre-orders whereas its predecessor had accounted for approximately 60 percent of the pre-orders received during the one week from August 1. The latest clamshell foldable phone registered 7,14,000 units of pre-orders whereas the Fold 5 scored 3,06,000 units with still a few days to go for the closure of the pre-order window. The figures clearly indicate that more people were interested in the Galaxy Z Flip 5 which is no surprise considering that it got a significant upgrade with a larger secondary display.  

Surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 clocked 3,06,000 units in pre-order. It’s predecessor had recorded 3,88,000 pre-orders. This seems underwhelming despite the strong trade-in offers and the new Flex Hinge mechanism that leaves no gap between the two halves of the phone, smooth experience, and dust resistance.

While it’s good news that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 Indian units are made in the country, there is no respite for customers as the phones are pricier compared to their predecessors. The company has probably received tax breaks for making the foldable devices in India but they are not passed on to the Indian consumers in the form of reduced prices. 

India is the second biggest smartphone market. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 starts at Rs 99,999 whereas the Z Fold 5 starts at Rs 1,54,999 for the base variants. At the Galaxy Unpacked event held today in South Korea, Samsung unveiled a host of new devices. Among those, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 arrives as the successor to the last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 4. The newest generation clamshell foldable comes with significant upgrades over its predecessor. It also heats up the competition in the clamshell foldable segment with a large secondary display and goes up against the likes of the Motorola Razr Ultra (review), OPPO Find N2 Flip (review), and Vivo X Flip. Read on to know the technical details of the device below. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 specifications and features

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is a vertical folding clamshell phone. Internally, it has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display bearing an FHD+ resolution and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate. The key highlight of the newest foldable phone is that it features a large 3.4-inch secondary sAMOLED display (Samsung calls this the Flex Window) with 1,600 nits peak brightness and a 60Hz refresh rate on the back panel. The screen looks like a folder-shaped icon making it appear unique. Users can do a lot of stuff on the secondary screen like reply to a text, view notifications, control music playback, access Samsung Wallet and quick settings without having to open the main display. 

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner embedded in the power button. The brand says that it has used a new hinge mechanism featuring a dual rail structure and diffusing external impacts. The phone is also capable of folding flat without leaving any gaps so that dust and water doesn’t settle in. The foldable device is also IPX8-certified dust and water-resistant. It is also shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

On the imaging front, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with a dual rear camera setup of a 12MP OIS-enabled sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. It has a 10MP front-facing selfie snapper. The foldable phone has dual stereo speakers tuned by Dolby Atmos.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will fold flat

There have been new entrants in the clamshell foldable phone segment in the last one year. These include the OPPO Find N2 Flip, Vivo X Flip, and Motorola Razr 40 Ultra. Notably, all these devices feature a large secondary display and are able to fold flat. This left the last year’s Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 lagging behind. 

However, Samsung has started sharing teasers of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5. As per the latest teaser video, the upcoming offering will be able to full close flat. This is a huge sigh of relief since the Galaxy Z Flip 4 leaves a gap when it is folded allowing water and dust particles to settle in between. The teaser also reveals a boxy form factor of the upcoming flip phone that has antenna lines and a SIM card tray. However, the rest of the details remain unknown. 

The dummy unit of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 showed a gap where the phone folds which is pretty disappointing. However, it remains to be seen on the final device. As per leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to feature a 3.4-inch 720p secondary display with a folder-like cutout design. It is tipped to have a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung’s Z series has been ahead of foldables from other makers, in terms of features and usability, albeit the gap is narrowing now.

Samsung is now readying to launch its next generation of folding devices during the Galaxy Unpacked on July 26. The event will see the launch of the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5. Here in this post, we’ve rounded up everything known so far about the upcoming Flip phone.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 Design & Display

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting a major design overhaul this year. Unlike previous models, which featured a rather small cover screen with limited functions, Galaxy Z Flip 5’s outer screen is getting grand treatment. Similar to what we have seen on the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra (read our first impressions), the upcoming Samsung Flip phone could feature a large 3.4-inch cover screen, possibly with added features and controls.

Moto Razr 40 Ultra’s cover screen lets you do almost everything you’d do on the main screen. Samsung’s software game is even stronger than Motorola so we can expect a better experience on the small screen. The rest of the design of the phone should be same as the last year’s model. We are talking about flat edges and a dual camera setup on the rear. It should get a punched hole cutout on the front for the selfie camera.

The main screen on the device could be a 6.7-inch AMOLED Full HD display, with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. This is almost same as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, with an exception of it being able to switch to QHD resolution.

The hinge is another major improvement on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. It is what allows a foldable phone to fold, and the current Samsung flip phones have a deep crease in the center due to the hinge mechanism. While you may stop noticing the crease after using the phone for some time, the experience would be much better without it. Samsung apparently agrees, as there are rumors that the company has reworked the hinge to reduce or eliminate the crease on the display.

The Korean company is said to have equipped its latest foldables with a teardrop hinge, similar to Google Pixel Fold and Oppo Find N2. This new hinge minimizes the display crease and lets the phone fold flat without a gap.

Galaxy Z Flip 5 cameras and hardware

Samsung will pack the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with all the latest hardware. This includes Qualcomm’s greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. It may not be a regular chip but an overclocked version seen on the Galaxy S23 series. The chip could be paired with up to 512GB of storage and 8GB RAM.

The phone is also rumored to get a camera upgrade, but it’s likely to be minor. It is expected to have a 12MP main camera with optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 12MP selfie camera on the front. The megapixel count is the same as the Galaxy Z Flip 4, but there’s a possibility the sensors will be larger. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 will also have a larger 3,700mAh battery and support 25W charging. The phone will run on Android 13 with Samsung’s OneUI on top. It will retain the IPX8 rating.

Expected Pricing

A recent report claims the 256GB model of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will cost €1,199 (~$1,414) in France. The 512GB storage model will cost €1,339 (~$1,580). As you can see the new flip phone is slightly more expensive than the Flip 4, which starts at €1,049 in the same region. But the good news is that Samsung could ship the Galaxy Z Flip 5 pre-orders with a free storage upgrade.

Leaks and rumors have revealed plenty of details about the upcoming devices. Now reliable tipster Ishan Agarwal has shared Galaxy Unpacked event posters that give us an official look at the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5. 

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5 posters emerge

The marketing posters confirm that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be offered in a Light Blue color option. We can spot a center-aligned punch-hole cutout on the primary display. There is a pill-shaped vertically stacked camera triple camera module. The foldable phone has a speaker grille and three microphone cutouts at the top. 

The marketing posters also show Samsung’s official case for the Galaxy Z Fold 5. It will have a slot for the S-Pen on the right side of the case. The stylus is also seen in two different colors – Lime and Bronze. Meanwhile, the case is in Bronze and Blue hues. 

Meanwhile, the marketing poster does not reveal much about the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 apart from confirming the previously leaked renders. It has two horizontal camera sensors and an LED flash beside the top left corner of the back panel. There is a large secondary display and a metal frame. 

It’s just a matter of a few days where we will learn about upcoming Samsung products next Wednesday.

Galaxy Watch 6 series pre-orders will also ship with free goodies. If you reserve the Galaxy Watch 6 or Watch 6 Classic in advance, you can get yourself a free fabric band. The images reveal Watch 6 will be available at a special pre-booking price of $4/month. Note there’s no official confirmation regarding these incentives.

A recent post on Slashleaks features images and a brief video showcasing the dummy unit of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. In the images, you can see a larger folder icon-shaped cover display on the outside, accompanied by two camera modules. The rest of the design seems to be similar to last year’s model, from the fingerprint sensor to the hinge.

The latest leak shows that the gap in the folded Galaxy Z Flip 5 still remains visible. Samsung was rumored to be adopting a new droplet-style hinge design. This hinge design would have left more space for the display to fold, which would have helped to reduce the gap. However, the dummies show the gap is still visible, even with the new hinge design. This is disappointing for some fans, who were hoping for a more seamless folding experience.

It’s worth noting that the dummy units could vary from the original models, so you may not see this visible gap on the units you purchase. Just a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5, along with a new generation of Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9, will be unveiled on July 26th.

In the Indian market, a press release has confirmed that customers who pre-reserve the foldable phones by paying Rs 2,000 will receive benefits worth Rs 5,000 when they make the purchase.

In India, the upcoming Galaxy foldable phones will be sold through various channels, including Samsung India’s website, Amazon, Flipkart, Samsung Exclusive Stores, and retail outlets. The pre-reservations page for Galaxy Unpacked suggests that Samsung will also introduce new tablets and smartwatches during the same event.

This aligns with previous rumors indicating that the flagship Galaxy Tab S9 series tablets and the Galaxy Watch 6 series will be unveiled alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 on July 26.

In related news, Samsung has unveiled the Galaxy M34 mid-range phone with a price tag of Rs 16,999 in India. The device comes with a 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ 120Hz display, an Exynos 1280 chip, 50-megapixel triple rear cameras, and a 6,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

In addition, the South Korean company seems to have announced the Galaxy S21 FE 5G with the Snapdragon 888 chip in the offline market in India. The company is expected to make an official announcement on its arrival on July 10.

The video shared by Samsung does not reveal any details about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 until the end. More than a product teaser, it’s a short and funny horror commercial. It mentions that the Z Flip possesses power on anyone who looks at it. The commercial still features the last year’s outgoing Galaxy Z Flip 4 highlighting various features like Flex mode. At the end of the video, we get a glimpse of what appears to be the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5’s large secondary display. Regardless, the latest video is quite fun. 

We can expect Samsung to share more teasers about its upcoming devices in the days leading up to the launch event. The Unpacked event announcement teaser revealed power and volume keys on the right side of the clamshell foldable phone. The former is also expected to double up as a fingerprint scanner. There are antenna lines on the frame suggesting the use of metal chassis.

A series of new leaks have recently surfaced online, revealing the full specifications of the next gen flagship foldable smartphones from Samsung and even their design via leaked renders and live images. So here’s a breakdown of all the information on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 model is the top-end device in the upcoming 5th Gen Z series. Now, a new leak from SnoopyTech has revealed the design renders of the upcoming foldable phone as well as its full specs. Looking at the design first, we can tell that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 retains the design of its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, with a notebook-like horizontal folding primary display, a tall external screen, and a vertically stacked triple camera setup.

The primary panel is a 7.6 inch Dynamic AMOLED display with a 2,176 x 1,812 pixel resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, the cover display is a 6.2 inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,316 x 904 pixel resolution. Under the hood, the device will be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, which will be paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be powered by a 4,400mAh battery pack and will run on Android 13 OS based OneUI 5.1.1 out of the box.

The rear will house a 50 megapixel triple camera setup, while the front has a 5 megapixel under display camera on the primary screen and a 10 megapixel shooter on the secondary panel as well. Other notable features include NFC, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, a USB-C 3.2 port, nanoSIM, and eSIM support. This model will be available in three color options, namely Phantom Black, Cream, and Icy Blue colors.

Galaxy Z Flip 5

Unlike its more expensive sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 model will be getting a major upgrade in design over its predecessor. Similar to the new Moto Razr 40 Ultra, it sports a taller cover display that has a 3.4 inch size and HD resolution. On the other hand, the primary screen is a 6.7 inch Dynamic AMOLED panel with a Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 powers his device as well, with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.

Other notable features include Android 13, USB Type-C 3.2, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 6E. The leak from SnoopyTech offers us a look at the design of this device as well, but a separate leak from Revegnus offers us a look at the device in public with a cover. Looking at the live image, we can see the taller cover display offering more functionality with its Always on Display displaying an analog clock.

Revegnus added that the Z Flip 5’s battery life will be similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from its 3,700mAh battery pack. This model will also launch in multiple colors, which include Lavender, Mint, Cream, and Graphite color variants. Notably, the two foldable phones will be unveiled during the Galaxy Unpacked event next month alongside the new Galaxy Watch 6 series, Galaxy Tab S9 series, and Galaxy Buds 3.

The news arrives from a MySmartPrice report, who shared new design render of the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Sources close to the matter have leaked the render of the upcoming foldable phone, which finally offers us a first look at the device. Looking at this render, we can see the design of the device, which confirms the large new cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5. For those unaware, the upcoming Flip model has been rumored to feature a taller 3.4 inch external display. This is much bigger than the 1.9 inch that was seen in previous iterations. Notably, this makes it even larger than the 3.26 inch display found in the Oppo Find N2 Flip as well.

The dual camera setup is housed horizontally with the cover display situated right beneath it. Thanks to the higher screen real estate, the device will likely be able to add more functionality and display more information on this panel. The screen is not a simple squarish panel as the region below the camera module curves downward. Meanwhile, the LED flash is now housed right next to the dual camera setup. One such example is it being used as a better viewfinder for taking selfies with the higher resolution rear cameras. Rather than curving underneath the cameras, the design would’ve appeared to be a lot more seamless if the cover panel covered the entire rear with cutouts for the rear cameras. But this is likely a conscious choice by the brand and does not outright copy the design language of its competitor.

Based on what we know so far, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a tall 6.7 inch primary AMOLED display that has a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution. Young also states that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be available in Blue and Platinum colors along with high-volume colors of Beige, Black, and Light Blue. 

As per leaked renders, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is almost certain to feature a large secondary display joining the bandwagon of the OPPO Find N2 Flip, Vivo X Flip, and the forthcoming Motorola Razr Ultra. However, the South Korean brand’s next-gen foldable flip phone’s display will look like a folder-like icon to ensure that there is enough space for a dual rear camera setup. The screen is expected to measure 3.4 inches and bear a 720p resolution. As per a previous report, the device will have a black back panel that would negate the folder-like cutout when the screen is not lit up which would have otherwise looked weird.

The leaked renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 revealed a large secondary display positioned just below the camera sensors. The screen is squarish and has a unique folder-like icon design. This is to ensure enough space for the dual rear camera setup at the top left of the back panel. However, this also meant that the folder cutout would be visible at all times. 

As per SamMobile, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a black back panel like the Z Flip 4 and 3. This would negate the folder-like cutout when the screen is not lit up which would have otherwise looked weird. The above-embedded video also shows how this would work. The publication says that Samsung wouldn’t opt for such a design without thinking about how it will look in action. 

With the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung seems to join the bandwagon of launching a clamshell flip phone with a larger secondary display. The OPPO Find N2 Flip and Vivo X Flip have larger than 3-inch cover screens. Even the forthcoming Motorola Razr is confirmed to get a larger secondary display. 

The larger secondary display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be a significant upgrade from its predecessor.

The reason behind it is that all the business divisions of Samsung are advertising the country’s bid for World Expo 2023 at different levels. For instance, Samsung showcased a “Busan World Expo 2030” promo video at the MWC 2023, which was held in Barcelona, Spain, in February. Hence, the company is considering locations such as Busan or New York.

The upcoming Galaxy Unpacked 2023 is likely to see the arrival of multiple products. The company will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Z Flip 5 at the event. This year, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will face competition from the likes of the Google Pixel Fold and the Tecno Phantom V Fold.

The image revealed that its cover screen will occupy almost the entire top half of the device’s back.

The Galaxy Z Flip 5’s cover screen will be larger than the OPPO Find N2 Flip’s cover screen, which measures 3.26 inches. It appears that it will be larger than the Vivo X Flip’s cover screen, which is said to be similar in size to that of the Find N2 Flip. Hence, the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s outer display will be much larger than the 1.9-inch cover display that was made available on the Galaxy Z Flip 4 from last year.

Young added that the panel shipments for the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will begin in May, and its production will start in June. This indicates that the South Korean tech giant could be planning to launch the Z Flip 5 in August. The tipster recently revealed that the device will come in four colors, such as Beige, Gray, Light Green, and Light Pink.
