The South Korean giant is now gearing up to launch refreshed versions of its existing foldable phones.</p>
<p>There are reports about the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-fold">Galaxy Z Fold</a> and Galaxy Z Flip smartphones. Now, reports about the color options of the upcoming new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphone have surfaced online.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-333380 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy Z Flip 5G featured" width="948" height="635" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b.jpg 948w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b-300x201.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b-768x514.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b-696x466.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Galaxy-Z-Flip-5G-featured-b-627x420.jpg 627w" sizes="(max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px" /></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.galaxyclub.nl/nieuws/meer-frisse-kleuren-voor-samsungs-volgende-flip-o-a-blauw-roze/">report reveals</a> that the phone will be made available in eight color options &#8212; Purple, Green, Black, Beige, Gray, White, Dark Blue, and Pink. These are the hues but the actual name of the colors may be different.</p>
<p>This means that at the time of launch, there could be eight color options for the new Galaxy Z Flip smartphone but there&#8217;s a possibility that the company could add more colors after the launch, specific to certain regions.</p>
<p>As for the smartphone, the design of the smartphone is expected to be similar to its predecessor. However, it is said that the design is more refined. The device reportedly has two <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/battery">batteries</a> together with a rated capacity of 3,200mAh.</p>
<p>So far, the exact launch date of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphone is not yet known but we expect it to go official around the same time as its predecessor &#8212; July or August. To know more about the phone, including its specifications and pricing information, we will have to wait for the official launch.</p>

For this, the company has been experimenting with different foldable designs.</p>
<p>Now, a report <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/opvouwbare-telefoons/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-2021/">coming from LetsGoDigital</a>, citing a new patent from Samsung, claims that the South Korean giant is developing a Galaxy Z Flip-type smartphone that can be folded in two directions &#8212; inwards and outwards, eliminating the need for a larger cover display.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-384734 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent.jpeg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Patent" width="1440" height="937" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent.jpeg 1440w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-300x195.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-768x500.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-1024x666.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-696x453.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-1068x695.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Foldable-Punch-Hole-Camera-Patent-645x420.jpeg 645w" sizes="(max-width: 1440px) 100vw, 1440px" /></p>
<p>The patent, applied in October last year, describes a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/clamshell">clamshell phone</a> with an elongated display, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Because of the unique ability of the smartphone to fold in both directions, the hinge also needs to be redesigned.</p>
<p>When folded, the flexible screen remains protected against external influences. Folding the device the other way gives access to a large screen on both the front and rear. Additionally, the phone can be used in a fully open position, after which the entire flexible screen can be used.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-384736 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021.jpeg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2021 Patent" width="3840" height="2160" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021.jpeg 3840w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-300x169.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-768x432.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-696x392.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-1068x601.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-747x420.jpeg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-2021-1920x1080.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3840px) 100vw, 3840px" /></p>
<p>The phone features a dual <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/punch-hole">punch-hole camera</a> on the front side. As the flash cannot be used on the device due to safety concerns, the company has opted to illuminate the display as a workaround for flash.</p>
<p>Interestingly, the phone will come with an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/in-display-fingerprint-sensor">in-display fingerprint sensor</a>, which if turns out to be true, will be the first time for a foldable smartphone. Currently, there is no foldable device that comes with an under-display fingerprint scanner.</p>
<p>Do note that this is a patent from Samsung and there&#8217;s a possibility that the company isn&#8217;t planning to launch such a device anytime soon. However, the company is working on several foldable smartphones, including the Z Flip (5G), <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-3">Z Flip 3</a>, and Z Fold 3 that will get launched later this year.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-321153" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold.jpg?x44794" alt="Galaxy Z Flip Mirror Gold" width="1233" height="743" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold.jpg 1233w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-300x181.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-768x463.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-1024x617.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-696x419.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-1068x644.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-697x420.jpg 697w" sizes="(max-width: 1233px) 100vw, 1233px" /></p>
<p>According to the <a href="http://www.thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=9037">report</a>, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> will focus on popularizing the foldable after the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s21">Galaxy S21</a> launch. It apparently sensed the attraction of foldable devices. Similarly, a DSCC report recently predicted <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/16/dscc-samsung-will-lead-the-foldable-smartphone-market-with-over-80-share-by-year-end/">Galaxy Z Flip as the top-selling foldable</a> for 2020. All this means that Samsung can&#8217;t afford to lose one eye for another. The company began the year with a vision of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/11/samsungs-second-foldable-device-arrives-as-the-1380-galaxy-z-flip/">spearheading</a> the foldable devices market individually.</p>
<p>However, the S series got over-shadowed by the Galaxy Z Flip. This was evident with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/27/samsung-galaxy-s20-lineup-sales-q1-2020/">poor sales</a> of Samsung Galaxy S20 in Q1. Add to this, the S20 Ultra&#8217;s Exynos version had various issues like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/13/galaxy-s20-ultra-users-are-facing-autofocus-performance-heating-and-battery-issues/">throttling in Performance, Camera</a>, and Battery life. And now, with the report saying that Samsung has already limited the initial production of Galaxy S21 to 6 million units, it just can&#8217;t repeat the mistake again.</p>
<p>Accordingly, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/03/samsung-galaxy-s21-series-launch-and-pre-order-dates-revealed/">Galaxy S21 series is likely to launch</a> a month earlier. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 2 is reportedly going to be one of the five foldable models next year. Citing industry insiders, the report says that successors of Galaxy Z Flip(likely <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Galaxy-Z-Flip-2">Z Flip2</a>) and Z Fold(likely <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/23/samsung-reportedly-confirms-galaxy-z-fold-3-launch-in-june-2021-and-galaxy-note-line-discontinuation/">Z Fold3</a>) will launch next year.</p>
<p>Additionally, three new foldable smartphones are under development. And we feel that one of them could very well be the affordable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/18/samsung-likely-working-on-galaxy-z-flip-lite/">Galaxy Z Flip Lite</a> that is said to come with a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/UTG">UTG</a> display. Anyhow, the Galaxy Z Flip2 itself hasn&#8217;t appeared much on the radar of leaks.</p>
<p>It is likely to darn a display larger than the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip">Z Flip</a>(1.1-inch) but smaller than the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-razr-2019/">Motorola Razr</a>. Considering, it&#8217;s coming in June 2021, we can expect features like <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-875">Snapdragon 875</a> SoC, 5G, fast charging, and more.</p>

Now, the company is reportedly gearing up for a new foldable device &#8212; Galaxy Z Flip 2.</p>
<p>The smartphone in question was recently reported to have been delayed by the company until late 2021. However, the latest report indicates the company could launch the phone sometime during Spring in 2021 but no specific timeline is known.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">The Z Flip 2 will not be launched with the S21, but it will be launched in the spring. I am impressed with the upgrades it will get.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>This confirms that the device won&#8217;t be launched along with the next-generation S-series flagship lineup &#8212; Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s21">Galaxy S21</a>, which is now expected to launch in January 2021, earlier than its usual release in February or March.</p>
<p>For those who are unaware, the original Galaxy Flip was launched in February earlier this year and then in the month of August, the South Korean giant introduced a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/5g">5G</a> compatible variant of the same.</p>
<p style="text-align: center"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> </strong><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/29/morgan-stanley-recent-decline-in-air-quality-in-chinese-cities-is-due-to-iphone-12-production/"><strong>Morgan Stanley claims that the recent decline in air quality in Chinese cities is due to iPhone 12 production</strong></a></p>

<p>As of now, not much is known about this upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> Galaxy Z Flip 2 smartphone but we expect the device to have 4G and 5G connectivity support given that 5G is now become mainstream, at least for the devices if not for the network carriers.</p>
<p>The report also indicates that the smartphone will come with several interesting upgrades compared to the original model but there&#8217;s no information about what these upgrades are. However, we expect to get more information about the device in the coming months.</p>
<p>A few days ago, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/16/rumor-galaxy-z-flip-2-will-have-a-bigger-outer-screen-and-bigger-battery/">it was reported</a> that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 will feature a larger outer display, a new UTG display, upgraded hinges, and a bigger capacity battery. But do note that these are just rumors and leaks so take the information with a pinch of salt.</p>

The Z Flip went on sale the same day and was sold out instantly. Samsung again made the Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone available in China again and reports indicate that the model was sold out in just 30 minutes.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1.jpg?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-300559" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Renders" width="3839" height="2534" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1.jpg 3839w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1068x705.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-636x420.jpg 636w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1920x1267.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3839px) 100vw, 3839px" /></a></p>
<p>If Samsung was told the Z Flip would receive such wild patronage, the company may have had doubts. The flip design seems to have received approval from most fans as the foldable design they prefer. The Galaxy Z Flip comes with a staggering 11,999 Yuan (~$1,712) price but that has not dissuaded many people. The phone is sold via Samsung&#8217;s official website and major e-commerce platforms in China. The device is presently available for reservations on several e-tailer channels including <a href="https://item.jd.com/100011497100.html?cu=true&amp;utm_source=www.ithome.com&amp;utm_medium=jingfen&amp;utm_campaign=t_236375426_{%22Editor%22:%22%22}&amp;utm_term=8bf8b9dcf40747e2a863d553223cd86d" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Jingdong</a> and would go on sale yet again on March 6.</p>

While the build quality has improved from what companies offered last year, there&#8217;s still concern about the same because of how expensive such devices are.</p>
<p>The focus is currently on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/11/samsungs-second-foldable-device-arrives-as-the-1380-galaxy-z-flip/">newly launched</a> Samsung Galaxy Z Flip smartphone and from what we&#8217;ve seen so far, it seems that the device is not easy to crack. iFixit recently shared a video teardown of the phone, showing the phone&#8217;s internals and revealing its build.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/fUKETvXnixA?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>Samsung has been advertising its new &#8220;fiber shield&#8221; hinge which intends to trap stray dust and keep it from getting inside the smartphone. While the phone does have this new type of hinges, the working isn&#8217;t as good and impressive as what Samsung made it look.</p>
<p>Folks at iFixit dropped the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/foldale-smartphone">foldable smartphone</a> it into a bag of purple dust, they took the phone out and shook out the dust but despite this, some dust got inside the Galaxy Z Flip and it even stopped the hinge from fully opening.</p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>EDITOR&#8217;S PICK: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/18/samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra-vs-xiaomi-mi-10-pro-vs-iphone-11-pro-max-specs-comparison/">Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra vs Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro Max: Specs Comparison</a></strong></h6>
<p>As this is not a situation that you will face in your regular usage, the company may have designed the phone just keeping the real-time scenarios in mind and the fiber shield hinges are for repelling day-to-day pocket lint.</p>
<p>Also, it&#8217;s noteworthy that the company clearly says that the smartphone is not water and dust resistant and the same warning shows up on the screen when you first turn on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip/">Galaxy Z Flip</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-305003 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b.png?x44794" alt="Galaxy Z Flip featured" width="769" height="483" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b.png 769w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-768x482.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-696x437.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-669x420.png 669w" sizes="(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px" /></p>
<p>There are a few other teardown videos on the internet which shows that the screen is prone to marks and scratches just like a plastic screen but the company is advertising the screen to be glass. Samsung clarified that the display is indeed glass, but has a “protective layer” on top.</p>
<p>When that protective layer is removed, the screen stops working. This is similar to the original Galaxy Fold which wouldn’t work when the protector was peeled off, sparking concerns about its build and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/23/samsung-officially-announces-the-postponement-of-galaxy-fold-release/">forcing Samsung to delay</a> its launch.</p>
<p>Overall, it is evident that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is an impressive device as far as engineering is concerned. However, the device does have some flaws in terms of design and build, which could lead to durability issues.</p>

After the Razr, even Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/11/samsungs-second-foldable-device-arrives-as-the-1380-galaxy-z-flip/">came up</a> with such a foldable phone: the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip">Galaxy Z Flip</a>. Just like the Motorola Razr, it folds in half and it has an external display showing notifications and other important things. But which design philosophy is the best and which is the best foldable phone in terms of specifications? In order to answer these questions, we decided to publish a specs comparison between Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr: the only foldable phones with a clamshell form factor.</p>

<h3></h3>
<h3>Design</h3>
<p>The new Motorola Razr is a revival of the iconic Motorola Razr that is one of the devices which made the biggest success in the era of feature phones. So its design is definitely more interesting and attractive than Galaxy Z Flip, at least according to us. The Galaxy Z Flip is undoubtedly an elegant phone and given that its foldable display can be placed in several angles it even offers a more innovative user experience, but the Motorola Razr is the most amazing in terms of aesthetics. It does not have the resistant Ultra Thin Glass layer found on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip which should make the display more durable, but on the other hand, it is splash resistant.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Display</h3>
<p>The best internal foldable display is the one mounted on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. It has a higher resolution, a better image quality, it can be opened in various angles (and not only flat) and it is even HDR10+ compliant. But when it comes to external displays, Motorola Razr wins. The Galaxy Z Flip has just a mini 1.1-inch display which can only show notifications and a few other things, while Motorola Razr has a wide 2.7-inch external display allowing to shoot selfies, answer calls and performing many other advanced tasks. You can partially use your phone while it is folded, and you can not do it with the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Specs &amp; Software</h3>
<p>When it comes to hardware, Motorola Razr is just a mid-ranger. It is fueled by a Snapdragon 710 chipset paired with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Nothing special for a device that costs more than €1000. Galaxy Z Flip is a real flagship, fueled by the Snapdragon 855+ SoC paired with 8 GB of RAM. Further, unlike the Motorola Razr, it has Android 10 out of the box. Unfortunately, none of these devices supports 5G connectivity. The Motorola Razr does not even have a SIM slot: it relies on eSIM technology. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip wins the hardware and software comparison.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Camera</h3>
<p>Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is a way better camera phone than Motorola Razr. It does not allow shooting selfie through its dual rear camera like the Motorola Razr, but it has a pretty nice 10 MP selfie camera. On the rear side, Galaxy Z Flip comes with a dual camera including OIS and an ultrawide sensor. Motorola Razr has just one single sensor and it can be considered a midrange camera phone, nice photos, but not a huge deal. At least you can take selfies with the rear camera, while the smartphone is folded.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<li><strong>Read More: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/07/moto-razr-teardown-repair-difficult/">Moto Razr teardown shows that the phone is difficult to repair</a></strong></li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Battery</h3>
<p>Even on the battery side, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip takes the gold medal, It has an above-average battery if compared to the actual flagships, but at least you do not risk of running out of battery before the end of your working day. Both feature 15W fast charging, but Samsung Galaxy Z Flip is the only with Qi wireless charging. Motorola Razr has a 2510 mAh battery which barely reaches the end of the day with moderate use. We still did not test the battery of the Galaxy Z Flip, but given the capacity, it will surely be a lot better.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h3>Price</h3>
<p>You need whopping €1500 to purchase both Samsung Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola Razr, in the European market. Galaxy Z Flip is priced $1379 in the U.S. while Motorola Razr costs $1,500. There is no doubt: Galaxy Z Flip is a more advanced foldable phone thanks to its better hardware, better cameras, and longer battery life. It even offers a more advanced user experience while unfolded (but the external display Motorola Razr allows doing more while the phone is folded). But if we talk about the design only, then the nostalgic effect provided by the Motorola Razr has no rivals.</p>

<figure id="attachment_302742" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-302742" style="width: 1200px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-302742 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung" width="1200" height="1200" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1.jpg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-768x768.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-696x696.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-1068x1068.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-302742" class="wp-caption-text">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip</figcaption></figure>
<p>The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was caught on camera again in an undisclosed location at a retail store. It was spotted by an Instagram user that also filmed and posted a short video on their account. As seen in the video, the upcoming foldable smartphone was covered by a thick case that is designed more for covering the device to prevent leaks rather than protection.</p>

<p>Previously, the South Korean tech giant had utilized a similar tactic to hide its Galaxy Fold smartphone to showcase just the screen, back in November 2018. Unfortunately, the video does not reveal any surprising new detail regarding the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip but does indicate its imminent announcement. We might see it in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-unpacked-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Unpacked event</a> which is going to be held on 11th February 2020, where the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s20/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S20 flagship series</a> will also be announced.</p>

The design follows a clamshell display that also resembles the Motorola Razr 2019. Unfortunately, finer details regarding the smartphone are currently unavailable and we will have to wait for an official announcement from Samsung for more details. So stay tuned, as more information is expected to arrive soon and we will be covering the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung-unpacked-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Unpacked 2020 event</a> as well.</p>

<p>The Galaxy Z Flip should present with a clamshell design and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/14/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-renders/">mock-up photos of the device</a> have already appeared online, thanks to LetsGoDigital. We don&#8217;t expect the design style to be too different. However, the Galaxy Z Flip will not feature the latest and greatest internal components. The device is believed to ship with last year’s Snapdragon 855 at the helm alongside a dual-camera setup on the outside and a 10MP selfie cam.</p>
<p>The most spectacular feature that has been leaked so far is undoubtedly the Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) construction on the display. This will make the Z-Flip the first device on the market to do so. That’s all the details is in the open at the moment.</p>

Along with that, the company is also expected to unveil its new foldable smartphone, which was rumored to be called Galaxy Fold 2.</p>
<p>Recently, it was reported that the upcoming foldable smartphone is named Galaxy Bloom. But, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/01/12/samsungs-foldable-phone-is-not-called-the-galaxy-bloom-but-galaxy-z-flip/">it is now said</a> that Galaxy Bloom is just a codename and the actual name of the smartphone is Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. Now, renders of the same have surfaced online.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-300559 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Flip Renders" width="3839" height="2534" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1.jpg 3839w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1024x676.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1068x705.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-636x420.jpg 636w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Flip-1-1920x1267.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3839px) 100vw, 3839px" /></p>
<p>From the renders, it seems that the Galaxy Z Flip will come equipped with a UTG display, or an Ultra Thin Glass display which is so thin that it gives the ability to bend without cracking. While this makes the phone more robust and durable, it also increases product cost for the company.</p>
